We were in for a meal Saturday evening. The meal was delicious and service was fast and efficient. Our server, Caitlyn was outstanding! We had had an emotionally challenging day due to unrelated events to the occasion we were there for. She had a lovely smile and was very friendly, and helped turn our day around. Great food and VERY good prices (from an American's perspective). Definitely a younger person's crowd, but I saw people into their upper 40's there as well (still not that old). A trendy atmosphere with an almost club-like feel to it. Overall a great place, but if you've got a headache, go elsewhere as the music's pretty loud.

The new menu has a variety of healthy choices with interesting flavors. More fresh ingredients, and unique combinations. Pleasant, high-ceilinged atmosphere and sunny patio. Comfortable, accessible seating in both bar and dining room areas. Waitstaff are friendly and well-trained. However, service time remains inconsistent. When our meals did arrive, they were certainly well-prepared, and staff answered questions easily regarding allergies and preferences. Vegetarians and vegans are easily accommodated. A minor error in the dessert item ordered was corrected immediately and with great courtesy. Parking can be tight, but there is overflow during peak times into the neighbouring lot. We return regularly. EDIT: Thank you for the quick reply to this review! This says a lot about your company's commitment to service. We ate there again yesterday, and had same experience.

Our experiences at Cactus have typically been very pleasant ones, and we have considered Cactus to be one of our favorite spots for any occasion. However, our most recent visit was quite a disappointing one. During our visit, we sat in the restaurant area for the first time - unlike the lounge which we usually do. On our visit, we were immediately greeted by our server with a bad attitude and curt short responses. Our server was quite rude to us but we tried to work with it and be understanding. My boyfriend ordered a whiskey ginger smash and I ordered a Passionfruit Bellini. Our server, Carri Wingreen, brought two Bellinis. We said that we would keep the Bellinis but my boyfriend asked for the ginger smash that he had originally ordered. She then proceeded to state that she could not over serve us, and refused to bring the correct order. We asked that she could take one of the Bellinis away then, so that the correct drink could be brought over, and she refused to, stating that we had already accepted the drinks. When we questioned her actions, she stated that she had the right to refuse to serve us, and then walked away.

Order completely wrong after repeated twice to server. New food had to be made while other party was already finished. We both had to eat alone. We spoke to the manger and only willing to take care if mistake. Cactus had a chance to WoW their guests and fix their errors but missed the opportunity. Will probably be nit returning

I was excited to order take out after a long week of work. The timing was definitely efficient, however our burgers looked nothing like what is portrayed on their menu and was specific with my order online. We said no tomato because it's an option and our burgers still had tomatoes, which made the burger and sandwich soggy. For the prices we pay, they need to do better! Our dinner was a big disappointment!

Afternoon lunch with a friend, during the week. Parking was a challenge as CC is in a strip mall adjacent to A & W. hostess was friendly but in a genuinely beautiful way as well was our waitress. My waitress gave me some suggestions as well as alternatives for my food allergy. Food was tasty and the proportion was satisfying. Price is a little on the high side if taking the kids but for special occasions well worth it.

Read update COVID-19 disaster waiting to happen! On July 13th my wife and I had a dinner reservation for 6 pm. There were guidelines to follow which we did to the letter. As we entered the tiny lobby (no room for 2 couples to social distance) to wait to be ushered in a lady came in looking for her takeout. We stood for several uncomfortable minutes for one of the young ladies in attendance to look after the situation. As we were waiting two more young ladies barged in looking for their takeout and were actually quite rude when I suggested they wait outside both takeout people were verbally abusive at that point. Not only was there no intervention, the hostess starts looking after takeout instead of seating us first. There needs to be a phone in for take and have it brought to the car otherwise this will become a larger issue at some point.This was a special occasion for us which was subsequently ruined, the food and service was fine.. UPDATE! I am a little late in doing this update. I am pleased to report that the Cactus Club Nanaimo was highly responsive to the issues we experienced during our reservation at the restaurant. They have a new policy for entry and markings are on the sidewalk within three days of this incident. I was very happy at the response as this restaurant is top-notch for food and service. My hats off to Corey and his team...we will be returning.

This place can be hit and miss. Been here a dozen times. Sometimes are awesome and some are awful. Floor can be filthy rude staff, and sticky tables. Please up your cleanup staff if possible! Other times the service is amazing and we’ve had a great time. They have a whole team of great people but a few duds. You just never know.

Great service and friendly staff!! They're taking wonderfully comfortable and effective precautions for covid-19. The menu is not very gluten friendly but the staff was more than accommodating to both my gluten and dairy needs. The food was phenomenal. I would highly recommend this for both a casual night and for slightly fancier night out

Dirty table and there were Spider webs on the light Fixture. The waitress gave us the bill with other tables unpaid drinks. When we notice (after paid), she said that those drinks were the other table’s unpaid drinks. And because we already paid, she couldn’t correct the bill. But she could give us $15 credit for the next time. WHAT? Why should we pay for Strangers drinks? Why do we want to come back next time? The steak was very dry this time when we told her, she responded nothing. Worst experience! Dishonesty! Disappointed!

I’m disappointed that I’m giving this review as I’m used to having consistently good food at Cactus Club in Nanaimo. My friend and I ordered take out last night and it was “terrible” in my friend’s words. I understand that it was extremely busy last night when I went in to the restaurant to pick up my food, however when we got home and opened up our food there was 1/2 a breast of chicken for our salad as well as next to nothing for toppings so basically a just lettuce salad and next to nothing in our chicken tacos. We won’t be doing a take out order here again. Also the salad dressing didn’t taste right.

Great food and a wonderful atmosphere. If you're looking for a quiet dinner then this might not be the place you're looking for. Very vibrant with a sports lounge on the entry level and on the next level down there are many tables and a fireplace as well as outdoor seating with a beautiful stone fireplace as well. Prices seem to be on par with the other eateries in the area.

Oddly you can get a rocket salad here on the island. But on the main land we can’t. So I’m taking two stars away for that reason. A chain should have the same food everywhere. It’s the reason I go. It’s the only thing I eat of the menu on the mainland... now I do not bother ordering food. Since it’s no longer available. if I have to go. It’s to drink and enjoy the decor. Really curious for the reason they do this.

Great food and decent service. It was a solid experience overall. However, I couldn’t give 5 stars because this location just isn’t as nice as the Cactus Clubs found in Vancouver. The table was showing wear and tear with noticeably chipped paint, and the bathroom stalls straight up belong in a strip mall (not to mention the cheap laminate counters). A few upgrades and this Cactus Club could be top caliber, and it’s still one of the nicest restaurants in Nanaimo, but it unfortunately pales when comparing to CC’s other locations.

Lovely ambience, decor and staff. Dinner was scrumptious. We started with a Tuna Stack appetizer with crispy wonton which was bright and bold in flavour and texture. Our New York strip loins were perfectly prepared and served with buttery mashed potatoes and asparagus. My son's dessert was tasty. Tea and cappuccino was a satisfying finish. Highly recommend this upscale restaurant.

I really enjoy the atmosphere at this Cactus. Food is generally quite good, though overpriced for sure, and drinks are consistently fine - is avoid asking for anything too complex, especially if they're busy. We've never had stellar service here, but it's passable for sure!You could definitely do worse in North Nanaimo! Recommend their happy hour, it's the best in the area

So for all the cactus club I went this one has not the standing of any other. Between the service for a simple take out. The person who took care of my order forgot 2 coke, the portion were ridicule (Baby portion?), and the burgers were not good and felt sick after eating this cactus club food, the truffle fries let`s not talk about them. Gave them to the fish as they were terrible. Not stepping a food in this cactus club ever again.

I have been here a few times and never been blown away by the food or the service, but it has been decent. The last time I went here changed my mind. I ordered a pasta dish which I can't remember the name of, but it had meatballs in it. I am a vegetarian, so I asked for the dish without meatballs, no problem. A few minuted after we ordered, our server (I think her name was Kayla- she had just recently moved to Nanaimo from the mainland) came back and suggested that they could make veggie meatballs from the same ingredients they use for the veggie burgers instead of having no meatballs. This small simple gesture had me elated, and has guaranteed Cactus club my repeat business. I am not sure if it was Kayla's idea, or the chef's, and I don't really care, the fact that someone went out of their way to be accommodating is something I don't see in customer service in Nanaimo often. So thank you, I appreciate it. Besides that, the service that night was just spot on. Quick, efficient, and all the food was really delicious.

Disappointed we didn't get seated and were told it was a 45 min wait when there were tables available. We went across the street to the Longwood brew pub and had a great dinner. On our way back to the car 45 mins later, cactus Club was empty. Not a single person on the patio. Unbelievable.

Went here late on a Friday night. It was good, typical Cactus Club restaurant chain. Pretty good service, our waitress was friendly enough. There were a lot of cops inside and outside because there had been a fight there earlier apparently. They accommodated substitutions in my meal which was great. It was happy hour but we were not given the happy hour menu, which is a bit of a bummer because I probably would have gone for a lighter meal or something but asides from that, good experience overall.

My friends and I visited this location for a birthday dinner. First, the table we were given was messy and was not ready at all. No drink menus, no cutleries. Second of all, we sat there for 30 minutes and waitress still does not come. No water, no nothing. We were pretty upset, we just decided to leave. Horrible services. Cant even comment on the food since we were never served lol. Just horrible.

Thurs, Aug 6th @2:00 we attempted to have a late lunch at Cactus Club. First we waited at the front for over 5 minutes before we were acknowledged, name taken and were told it would be 5 minutes to clear a table. More clients arrived, new hostess, they were told 10 minutes for a table, name and phone # taken. This hostess questioned us as to our intent. We explained our name was on the list and our table should be nearly ready as time had expired. She proceeded to tell us to wait outside and it would be another 5 minutes. Too much confusion. According to reports we are to support local business. This experience makes it very difficult.

I would suggest staying away from this location. I'm at avid cactus club enthusiast and i have found that all of the locations have great service but this one location in particular has left me feeling underwhelmed to say the least. Our server for the evening was April T and she was the worst server ever. The whole evening just felt rushed. There was a whole group of us but a few people had to leave but two of us wanted to stay back but the server didnt care. She wanted to settle and get her tip and be done with it. She didnt once come back and check up on us to see if we wanted anything else but asked us to leave because they had reservations but so many booths were empty and I even took pictures. Not sure if she was just racist or didnt like us.

Growing up in bigger cities I've always loved this restaurant. After moving to Nanaimo I won't be eating here ever again. Ordered my favorite the lettuce wraps, they were dry as a brick and they didnt even cut the meat to an appropriate size. Its the 3rd time we've had a bad experience. Also the menu is slim every cactus club in a bigger city has a better menu, Nanaimo just doesn't want to hop on board. This is not a true cactus club experience at all so disappointing.

Great as always. Appy hour is 3-6. I always make a habit of going to a CC whenever I'm in a town that has one. The belinis are the best kinds of drinks, and the menu changes every once and a while to keep things fresh. I'd recommend going during off hours to avoid a wait however. Oh, and they sometimes have promos through their website where if you spend x dollars you get a free gift card for x dollars

Despite being known as a high-end chain of casual fine dining establishments, the owners/operators of this location need to train staff more thoroughly on customer service. Our birthday party was about double the size of your typical 4-6 person dinner group, but still expected similar service levels to a regular sized group. The food was good, although portions are tiny for the cost when compared to other establishments. It was the frequency which our waitress checked on our food - or rather, the lack thereof - that didn't sit well with me. Water was refilled, but I did not once see or hear anyone ask us how our food was during our meal. Drinks were offered, of course, as restaurants make most of their money off alcoholic beverages, but there wasn't even mention of dessert. FULL DISCLOSURE: When I visited 3 months ago, our waiter was actually very attentive to our similarly sized dinner group, so this very well could have been a bad night for them, or just a fluke happening.

Also way too loud. For the $200 we spent (one appy, two dinners and 4 alcoholic drinks) we could have found a much nicer restaurant.

This location is consistent in the upscale vibe and high quality food items that are featured at the other Cactus Club locations in Vancouver. Must haves are the Tuna Stack, Prawn Ravioli, and Peanut Butter Crunch Bar. Rob Feenie is a boss.

Worst service. Asked for patio seating, was told 30min. Was then seated next to the door. Overheard the next party who was quoted 5min for patio. Politely Confronted the hostess with a Question as to why we were quoted 30min and the next party 5min. Was promptly asked to leave by the manager for making the hostess feel uncomfortable. Left bewildered and confused. Will never eat or recommend anyone EVER eat here again. Literally I will tell everyone I know to stay away from this place.. garbage service

Food wasn't anything special, but not bad. The hosts were a bit rude and the server we had would rather leave then do a good job. I mean go in for happy hour and most of the staff seemed miserable. As a vegetarian, I have gotten used to limited options, but their main menu did not have one vegetarian option. There were a few starter/appys and 2 salads to choose from. They did say they could leave the meat out of a couple of the pastas but it didn't seem like the price would reflect that, and they were pretty pricey. The service was good though. My husband and I went to Cactus club for dinner in Nanaimo and we throughly enjoyed it. There was a problem with my steak not being cooked enough but our waitress (Paige) was attentive and fixed the issue and kept us in the loop of when the replacement would be there. When I got my plate back it was perfect and she checked in on us again. Would highly recommend.

Same menu as the others on the lower mainland. Service was slow the night we were there, the server was apologetic but otherwise gave us great service, very attentive. Portion size was, like all fine dining places, an issue for some of us, especially when you can count the ravioli on your plate without shuffling them around. It's a different experience than a place where you just come to fill your belly, but still, you do feel like you're paying a lot for not much. Otherwise pretty good. Special occasion place, not really for regular dining.

Have been regulars since 2012. At one time at least weekly. Food and service are good although a bit loud. More like a bar than restaurant. However have noticed significant price increases on food and wine since then along with down sizing portions. ÌE. 8oz steak vs 9oz. Most annoying though is that they have also cut back the sauce (peppercorn) even though it's already $4 more than just a grilled steak. Yesterday I couldn't even finish the steak as it was to dry once I ran out of sauce .I asked for it to be on the side and got maybe like 1 oz. I asked if I could get more and was told "it's preportioned and if I want more need to pay additional $4) Ridiculous as that would be $8 for like maybe 2oz. We have been frequenting less and less and driving further, like to The Keg which has great food and more accommodating. Not surprised though as it seems to be a trend in Nanaimo where they get busy and then get greedy and go downhill, eventually closing. Just like Earl's and Moxies. Is Cactus Club next?

Very busy. Friendly staff, seemingly to be on auto so not as personal as they have been in the past. We sat at a table where you could access from both sides and the serving staff crossed over plates with bare hands, plates filled with food already on the table. Now this may not be a thing in the past but nowadays this is not acceptable. My party of 4 felt that COVID-19 seemed not to be a concern here with this practice!!! Food was presented well for a chain restaurant. We all had steak and some of our plates were not very warm at all and the meat seemed a bit dry for all. Hence the meat may not have been rested properly. Flavors were well infused. Not sure if we would return as we did not feel like valued customers. Wait times were expected...

Went here on a diner date with the hubby. The staff was great as was the service. First off let me say the meal tasted great. But this plate was $28! I expect more then 8 pieces of pasta and 7 prawns. For that price a piece of garlic toast could have been thrown in. I literally left, went across the parking lot and got a hamburger from A&W because I was still hungry.

We ordered our meal online with the Covid restrictions. The process was simple, efficient and the staff very courteous. The chicken lettuce wrap was fantastic, perhaps the best we’ve ever had. The Jambalaya which is normally very good was a little disappointing.

I recently worked at this location in the kitchen. I decided it wasn't a good fit for me and quit, I continued working my shift as to not leave on a bad note. An hour after discussing this with the sous chef, and them emailing the other sous chef, the newest sous chef came in and pulled me outside with another Junior sous chef, who just seemed to be there to intimidate me, as I said he made me uncomfortable many times. They tried to fire me which I found funny as I had quit an hour earlier. So if you're looking for drama and a sous chef on a bit of a power trip, this is the place for you!

We don't go to Cactus Club nearly enough. Maybe 2 or 3 times a year but each time I say we must come here more often. The food is consistently delicious.On this visit we both had the Tuna Poke Bowl. Oh boy. Talk about flavour. We ate every single morsel it was so delicious. Fresh fresh food and greens and plenty of tuna. I can hardly wait to go back and have the exact same thing. We've eaten multiple items on their menu (in previous visits) and have always found the food to be full of flavour, the food fresh, and the staff are always attentive too

The service was good, but the place has a fruit fly infestation. A bunch of them were harassing our meal and so we asked to move to another table. After moving they restarted their harassment campaign and a fruit fly was doing the back stroke in my drink. Even in the bathroom the fruit flies were coming out of the urinals. This means that the place isn't all that cleanly. This used to be one of my favourite spots, but I'll probably not be coming back... Kinda gross

For my girlfriend's birthday we made a reservation for 12 and got given a table for 8. It took half an hour to get a new table and then over an hour before half of our table's food arrived. There was a gap of over half an hour between the first meals arriving and the last. One of the last items to arrive was a salad... A salad... A salad that contained undeclared ingredients for someone on a medically restricted diet. When it came back to the table, corrected, the avocado in the salad was practically rubber and inedible and it was missing the grilled chicken. Not to mention being charged an automatic 18% gratuity? Would not recommend this location. I would chop this up to being just a "bad night" but every time we come here with more than 4 people we have a terrible experience. Next time we will be booking elsewhere. No thanks.

Was in tonight for a few appies and was told we only had an hour for our table due to an incoming reservation. Our server Erin N was AMAZING. She was upbeat, friendly and extremely personable. She was knowledgeable on the menu and how to modify the orders for vegan friendly options and she even went above and beyond to move some reservations so that we could stay longer!! I highly recommend requesting her section if you want to have a great dining experience at this location.

What else can be said about Cactus, it's a great place for many occasions, good for families or a night out, the food is great, I love the wings! And the calamari is the best I've had in Nanaimo! Yesterday evening my family (including our 6 year old daughter) and I went to the Nanaimo Cactus Club as we hadn’t been there for a while. We had to wait a few minutes but were hoping to catch the last 10 min of happy hour for drinks. At the front entrance there is a sign that says minors can be in the adjacent bar area if accompanied by adults. Given that we asked if we could sit in there to grab drinks while we waited for our table. The hostess indicated we could not do that even after we pointed out the sign to her. We felt that she could have at the minimum called the manager to check but that didn’t happen. This was quite disappointing and we got the impression that kids are not welcome at the Cactus. So we left and went elsewhere. We have had variable experiences at this Cactus club in the past too but this really left us with a bad taste for the place. Never had these kinds of experiences at other Cactus locations. How is it that other pubs in town allow kids in their establishments while accompanied by adults but the Cactus Club does not. Food great but service not so great!

I had a terrific lunch with a friend here Tuesday and tried all the specials. First was a nice Rosé frozen drink special. Thirst quenching with terrific flavor. We were coming back from a minor hockey road trip, 8 of us. We just wanted a quick bite. They made us wait 30 mins for a big table and refused to split us into 2 smaller groups so we could eat and finish driving home.. One of the kids in our group has a celiac allergy and his father ordered a plain burger. It came loaded. The dad complained and they just wiped off the condiments. It was sent back a second time. Great day towards the end of September so we were able to sit on the patio. The tables are spaced out to allow for social distancing. Two of us had jambalaya rice bowls which were delicious and the third member of our group had a chicken sandwich (sorry, can't remember which one) which was huge and apparently very good. Service was fast and friendly. Very nice lunch in pleasant surroundings.

CC one of our frequent and enjoyable places. We go there regularly and enjoy the food and service. Happy Hours are a great deal. One of my favorites is the steak frites. Only $20 and always good. Except last Thursday when the steak, although tasty, was grissly and I could not eat half of it. Although disappointing, we will be back and still recommend this place.

This has been one of mine and my wife's 'go to' places for nearly a decade. Their beef burgers used to be dry and tasteless. I'm not sure what has changed since they opened back up after the lockdown, but their burgers have been phenomenal! As always, the service has been great as well. Upbeat atmosphere with great food and drinks - one of the better places for a classy date night to get away from the kiddos!

Very disappointed with the food. I had the pasta stuffed with squash & topped with prawns. There wasn't much squash. The dish actually looked like an appy. Scant dish for the price of $28.50. The flavour just was not there. A friend ordered one of the rice bowls. The flavours were not blended. Also pricey. The service was 5 star! It was very busy and there was a long wait which we did not mind but other diners were complaining. For us, it was not worth the price!

Terrible experience. They only do take out at the moment so ended up paying over $30 for soggy truffle fries and lettuce wraps when they didn’t even provide cutlery to assemble the wraps. Pretty over priced and it also took way too long, not impressed. Definitely didnt deserve a tip! Thumbs all the way down

WARNING! Apparently the Cactus Club offers “BONE SHARDS” in their chicken and offer no recourse to injury. After injuring my tooth from biting into their chicken lettuce wraps I was told by the management team that there are bi-products that come with there food and this is normal!!! They took my bone shard and left me with my dental bill. **Maybe they should offer a warning with there menus!!!** Very sad long term customer :(

Was told it was going to be a 30-40 minute wait 30 minutes pass by the hostess comes up to us and says sorry it’s going to be another 30-40 minute wait after already waiting 30 minutes and then proceeds to say we can keep our name on the list but if we do we would have to go wait in the car. Meanwhile there are other people in the waiting area that have come in after us and weren’t told the same thing as us. Terrible service!

We were a party of 12. We pre-ordered our meal and it arrived within minutes of our arrival. I had the Schezuan Chicken lettuce wraps, but, as a salad. Absolutely delicious.

Since there is only patio dining right now, we put our name in for a table for 2 and the host said he would text me when a table was ready, which he expected to be within 5 to 10 minutes. Stood outside for 20 minutes watching people leave, and no one go in. It was not busy at all. Went back in to see if they forgot us and the host said it might be another 10 minutes. Stood outside for another 25 minutes, still no text or anyone asking us to come in. Went back in after an hour and couldn't find a host or hostess anywhere. I think they were busy with take out orders. Just decided to leave and eat elsewhere. It is now 7 hours later and I still haven't received a text to say my table is ready or to apologize for not getting back to us. Worst customer service on the island.

The food is very good with large and varied open concept seating area. Separate elevated lounge with full menu access. Has an adult feel and no kids menu. That said, we have taken our children there for years and used a booth. Open concept means lots of ambient noise which provides a nice energy to the place. Very busy most times so check the Google Busiest Times chart. Reason for downgrade is handicap parking in particular and overall parking. It's inadequate for the facility. Non handicap drivers go ahead and park at the nearby Quality foods lot. It's easier and only a couple minutes walk. Bring an umbrella in winter. Handicap spots are not available in front and poorly marked in the side lot. The entrance is beside a parking lot collector lane which makes it a bit scary if you have kids. Grab their hands and don't let go.

So disappointed with the service, no one really care about the customer. This is not expected from such a fine establishment. The hostess and manager were so racist that they did not allow us to take a seat inside which was clearly not reserved as the hostess explained and only gave us a seat outside on the patio. The seat outside was so bad that we had to sit in the scotching summer heat with the blazing sunlight. I hope they change their attitude and serve all customers equally.

Great service, great food. We came on a Sunday which has some good deals for drink specials, like $4 longhouse lager. We sat in the lounge and enjoyed very quick and friendly service, the server promptly asked us if we needed refills or anything else, and the food was delicious. The music was not too loud but you could hear it. They have lots of TV's in the lounge to watch sports. Overall I enjoyed the visit and will definitely return.

It was a wait ,the hostess asked if we had a reservation... trying to explain the previous call that said we had a 45-to an hour wait to be seated... Have been coming here for years and have brought many guests to introduce to this place. Sadly. very very sadly this location has removed the baha fish tacos.. Now this place has exhamged them for szechuan lettuce wraps. Makes no sense ????. Very disapapointing and I am.not the only one qho feels this way.. Lots of us are surprised by this change.. All other locations have them. They are such a huge seller on the menu.. Bad decision.. ???? Atmosphere is always great tho.. Sadly not following all covid restrictions. Allowing customers to go from table to table. Talked to waitress about it and she said well they paid their bill sonthey can go over there and be a part of that new table.. Follows the guidleines or be shut down people.. It not thst hard.. The waitress is constantly hugging them..

Super disappointing evening. Usually one of my favourite restaurants. Our service was very poor, forgot our waters and menus we asked for. Forgot a drink. Never came back to the table after we ate our appys. We probably sat for half an our before flagging her down to put an order in. Our mains came and my salad was a puddle of dressing which I had two bites of then sent back and she charged me full price for the meal. My friends steak was over cooked which we also mentioned. Definitely seemed like an off night as we usually get great service.
