Tuesday march 30 2021 around 4h45pm. I went to try out El Rey Del Taco for the 1st time because i have received so many good feedback about the food. Upon my arrival. I've noticed poor customer service just by the way I was greeted. The young lady who greeted us poorly simply pointed out the menus, turned around and went about her business. As a 1st time customer, I had a few questions about the dish that I picked. I politely tried to ask questions to that same young lady and she harshly pointed out that the menu was in French. My question was not about the language but more so about the FOOD. I tried to ask her the same question again she rudely interrupted me and again repeated that everything is written in French. To sum, the customer service went from bad to worst. She clearly did not want to be there, had know proper knowledge of customer service and did not know the menu. Thank god, the cashier had manners and landed an ear and tried to apologize for her colleague. Great food. Poor customer service.

Wow, my favorite destination for Spanish delights. Best place to dine with your loved ones, family, and friends. The choices of food is what amazes me

Nathanel Titane

Always a pleasure to eat here. Delicious and original Mexican food with the warmth of the great people who serve you. Also you can find great authentic items to take and enjoy at home. Gracias!

Farhan Samin Prionta

I went last week as usual with my family and I was really shocked with the lack of empathy that the owner and his employees have for the customers, when we arrived they sat us at a table very close to the place where they pack their guacamole and we saw that the employees that were packing the products did not wear masks and did not any kind of hygiene protocol. At the end. we finished eating and when went to the cash to pay we saw that one of the cooks, who I believe is the owner, was doing the same thing, cooking without a mask. I decided to take the time to write this review before going to talk to the (MAPAQ). WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF F**** COVID!!!

Very good customer service , delicious tacos and the food was prepared in record time ????! Muchas gracias por darme ese sabor latino.

Jeff Jones

Absolutely impeccable service. Big portions for the special of the day. Churro and alfajor were delicious as well. Will be making many more trips here!

There are few latin restaurants that do everything right. This is one of them. Their tacos are to die for. They have barbacoa, al pastor, chicken, veggies, fish, beef tongue, you name it, it's delicious. Their tortilla soup and choriqueso are also amazing. They also sell a lot of goods off shelf. Their house made salsas and guac are top. They also have mexicoke. Just go, you won't be disappointed.

Jan Eurelson

Most authentic Mexican food I've ever had. Very tasty. Carne nachos are highly recommended.

Crystal K

Their chicken tortilla soup is amazing. Warms you up inside. Their tacos are good and tortillas are fresh. They have horchata which is amazing. Honestly, I haven't tried anything there that I don't like. Prices are very good and the selection is authentic and good. The vibe reminds me of Guadalajara. They even have a Mexican grocery area. Totally worth the visit.

Ana Cristina Gaitán

Fantastic food. Some of the most authentic I've ever had and it has come highly recommended. Good prices. Good service.

Vineet Ranawade

Good place if you are visiting in the Jean Talon market. Having tried multiple Mexican restaurants but this place had an altogether different atmosphere. The smell when you enter the restaurant is amazing. We ordered Tamales, as I had never tried this dish before. The taste was good but not upto the expectations as described earlier. We also ordered Tamarind juice and it was too good. The service can be better and staff can be more clean and welcoming, infact I saw one server pouring back the drank water by one customer in the jar which was not cool. Also, the server gave our juice to some other customer and they tasted the juice that's when the other customer realized that it's not what they ordered, server picked that juice and gave it to us instead of making a fresh one available. I wonder how they are maintaining the sanity in this place. In these times, one thing everyone wants is cleanliness which was highly lacking in this place, however the food is of good quality and taste due to which I have rated 4. P. S. They don't serve alcohol.

Mario Saab

Not the most flavorful but still a good option for Mexican in MTL. Plus the small market has so great food varieties from Latin America.

Jorge Martinez

Three types of salsa (mild, medium and very spicy) w/ chips put on your table as soon as you're seated. Amazing tacos. The drinks are equally good, especially the horchata. Super convenient location!

FrosteyyGaming

Tacos were not freshly made, they tasted like if they were made hours before wrapped in aluminum, probably microwaved since they were served in 2 mins (15 tacos) , it's probably a pick up that didn't sell and they served me it instead,17$ wasted. As i got inside the guy in first counter asked if I wanted tacos i said yes I want to take a look at the menu, he said it's over there (pointing to another counter far inside) and said we are not the same, i said ok what do you recommend he mentioned different names and I choose the mixed ones, and when I was about to pay he told me you have to pay in the other counter which seemed a bit dodgy.

Anthony Gianfrancesco

Wow just wow. Got seated at a tiny measly table outside, we thought the food would be amazing based on how packed it was. We felt pressed the whole time to order, eat then leave. You even have to go to the cash inside to pay, not even service at the table. The food was so mehhh. So expensive for what it was, please do yourself a favour and go to Super Taco for affordable tacos. We didn’t even have enough cilantro and onions for our tacos it was so sad. Same quality for 6$ 4 tacos vs a 25$ 3 taco plate here with terrible service and terrible seating. I had to tilt my chair because it was full of crumbs. Someone also stole the napkins off our table when we weren’t around. Just a sad restaurant i don’t know who decided to make it so famous

Mehdi Hammou

This little authentic Mexican restaurant is so charming. The food is delicious and extremely fast. Our waitress was outstanding and helpful. The lamb tacos are exquisite. The nachos soup is excellent, the food prices are very good. You wont be disappointed.

laura rosero

I can't say enough good about this place. Genuine, delicious authentic meals that taste homemade but come on generous servings. if you're hesitating, stop! Go there right now! You absolutely will not be sorry. They also have great vegetarian options. There's a great covered terrace out back in the warmer months, and plenty of indoor seating. Laid back vibes. They start you with water and multicolored tortilla chips served with three types of salsa. 1 is very mild regular salsa, followed by a pretty spicy one, and then there's the green stuff. Not for the faint of tongue. Everyone is delicious and addictive. It's virtually impossible to walk out without buying a jar of their salsa. They have a sampling table with at least a dozen different types of salsa for you to try, all made in the restaurant, all are interesting and delicious. They have a little grocery store inside so that you can take home some of your favorite meals. The refried beans and rice are always winners but they've got a little bit of everything, and the prices are very fair.

Victoria Schouela

If you want to try Mexican food, don't miss it. By the way, the staff are really friendly.

Zecharias Zelalem

The Taste of food Was on point, flavours were authentic and well balance. The service was a disaster, and I’m being generous. She brought me the wrong juice and refused to change it….the ambience in nothing special. I gave 2 stars because they have a mini market with cool products and some homemade guacamole that is really good. Please share your experience with me. Good luck

Joseph Kim

Great and awesome flavor! Really Mexican restaurant!

Yuqing Wang

Good tacos and variety of fresh sauces and tortillas on offer! I've been here on two different occasions, and both times the quality of the tortillas was a standout. The additional sauces that they bring to every table are lot's of fun and you certainly get a good experience. My first visit was a lot more successful than my second. Veal tongue tacos consisted of well cooked tongue, that was soft and buttery, but was well balanced with crisp onions and coriander, and a variety of spicy salsas. The carnitas I got on my next visit were not as great, and the meat was a bit too greasy for my liking. I would still recommend the restaurant, and perhaps my next visit will feature a menu item other than tacos.

Francois Richard

Cheap and good quality of food

Srinivasan “#0K” Ramachandran

Nice Mexican and Tex-Mex food, prices are higher than other Mexican restaurants I guess because the location, during the winter you can park in front of the restaurant on those empty Jean Talon market aisle, during the summer is better to use the Market indoor parking

monica provenza

The food is very good, the seasoning and spices are well balanced (not spicy if you ask not to). The prices are excellent and the menu has a very big variety, plus you can buy ingredients or ready-to-eat salsa and mixes for home ☺️????????

Alex J.

¡Muy bien! The best Mexican food I have had since living in New Mexico. The tamales are delicious and the carne asada is a must. I also purchased a lot of great ingredients here for tacos at home. The guacamole is so flavorful, the queso fresco is great as well, and the black beans are a perfect side to a meal.

Marvin Matos

Love the food! Great menu of authentic options along with genuine service. The patio is also a great people watching hang out.

Emmanuel Yoo

Avoid this place if you're looking to get good service. Its already been twice that the waiter/waitress asked me to give the tip in cash and directly to them, which I find quite rude. On top of that, they just have this careless attitude. The food is not bad at all, but nothing authentic nor unique. There is plenty of other Mexican restaurants out there with better food and a nicer service!

Yvonne Lo

By far the best guacamole of Montreal! The tortilla soup is as authentic as it gets. Good service, great menu and great price/quality ratio.

Aditya Ahuja

The cook from Cafe Frida now works here; he is an excellent cook.

Alain Franco

The food was ok, but it arrived cold and all messed up. The delivery took around 1h30, while I live at a 10 mins car drive distance. It's also a bit expensive for what you get.

Francois Legare

Generally I like the food. The portion is pretty large and the price is low (the one in the picture is $12, with lamb inside). Also love the corn chips and sources. The middle spicy one is perfect for me. The service is also pretty quick and good. Will go there again trying other foods.

Kellan Daniel

For a first time experience i found the tacos very tasty. The portions are a little small for the price but for a small eater i guess its ok. Definitely will go back i recommend it

Christine Dang

Service pénible. The chef is in fact the owner and you can hear him yelling to his employees. Food is decent. I experienced the exact same thing as the person who reviewed the place before me.. speechless

Pawel W.

Great food! Not the best mole I've ever had, but still good. Excellent refried beans, and the watermelon juice was the perfect way to end the meal. I'll be back!

Arash Shahryari

If your looking for an authentic Mexican meal, this is as close as they come. Amazing food. A tad too expensive for me though.

Alejandro Aspinwall

Good tasting tacos but I don't like the way they serve them by just dumping the filling in the middle of the for tacos. I prefer other taco places where they prepare them all individually. But as I said flavours very good.

kami je

I'm pretty picky and I love it here. It's authentic. They also have prepared things to go like guacamole (it's delicious btw) and meals you can take to go. I love it here

Alina Selezneva

The place to go for Mexican stuff, I hope it's spicy ????????..... 16 Aug, So I tried it and yes it's spicy.... Me picko hasta el .... Enjoy it with everything. Gracias R.T

Elena Kondrashova

The best tacos in Montreal! Super cheap for the quality of the food. 4 lambs tacos for only 10bucks ! Free colourful tortilla chips with 3 types of sauces are served once you sit down. Fast service and nice people !

Sabri

The food is just amazing. I have been there a lot of times and the food is juste like at home. I don't need to specify what is good or not, because to be honest, everything is great on their menu. They also have the best churros around Montreal

Carlos Gómez Gallegos

Great selection of taco filling choices. Authentic soft tacos and amazing guacamole. No alcohol though! It feels kind of like a large cafeteria but the food is worth it.

Mae Morrison

An authentic Mexican restaurant with a really diverse and extended menu. You will find traditional Mexican dishes from different regions of Mexico and also some Tex-Mex plates. I suggest you to get: a tortilla soup and a guacamole side as an appetizer, pork tacos or green enchiladas as main dish and churros for dessert. At the bottom of the restaurant, you will find a mini-market with Chilis and a diversity of Mexican products available for purchasing.

Kthulhu Fhtagn

Coming from Chicago which is full of great family run taquerias, this place absolutely nails the cheap delicious Mexican. Would taco again 12/10

Loïc Dion

Huge portions decent food and great service. The tortilla soup was highly recommended but a little salty. Had the tostadas which tasted great. Like the other reviews, its not a place with great ambience and decor but more for a quick bite.

Rakel De Freitas

The most traditional tacos I've tried in Montreal so far. The service was very good and very quick. You can also buy a bunch of other stuff in the shop like salsa, guacamole, tortillas and spicy sauces. Amazing

Amy White

LOVE this taco joint! Super friendly staff and my order came in pretty fast. It was honestly SO delicious. Reminded me of the authentic tacos I had in Mexico. 100% recommend you check this place out when you visit the Jean Talon Market. Can’t get enough of this place! @nomsoftoronto

Elliot June

A hidden gem to discover. Authentic Mexican feel at a great price. Love their pozole!

Gabra Nohmie

Good selection in the menu. I ordered Tostadas and Lengua Taco. The lengua was tough and dry. On the other hand, the Tostada was very nice. Good sized meal. Mexican chili con carne on top of black bean sauce and fried taco with some lettuce and cheese. Guacamole was nice. A good location to people-watch. Big open-air patio with roof. Will come back if am craving Mexican. Prices are reasonable.

ᴀʟᴇxɪᴀ ᴠɪʟʟᴀ

Absolutely delicious! There is even a market inside where you can buy their famous "guacamole" and "tortillas". It was very nice to eat here, great service, super good food and big and clean spaces. You should definitely try the tortillas soup and the chicken quesadillas.

Quentin Auvray (golbarg)

Amazing Mexican food, plenty of original flavors. Authentic homemade dishes. Very good service. Highly recommended.

Saurin Mehta

Amazing!!! Great food, excellent service! Some of the best Mexican food I’ve had. Really fresh using local ingredients! This place is also so kid friendly and the prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you get! Wish they had their alcohol license so you could have a Corona with your meal but they make fresh juices daily and they’re so tasty!

Varun Bhardwaj

awesome place. awesome service. awesome food!!!!

James Saville

Best Tacos in Montreal.. amazing service .. .great price .... amazing staff... worth the exerience

Matthew Marchant

Some of my favorite tacos in the city, plus you can grab some extra hot sauce, taco shells, or other Latin American staples to bring home afterwards.

Jean-Sébastien Beaulieu

Very authentic Mexican food. Great food and friendly staff. We drove from Ottawa and it was worth it! Will go back for sure!

Philippe Larue

Group of 6 of us went. My wife and I really enjoyed the food and it was a good atmosphere for us to catch up. The kids enjoyed but may have ordered differently for their selections. Overall was excellent for our meal and a good value for the meals.

M S

Great tacos here, got the pork one with a taco bowl. The grilled steak was a tad bit overcooked but the rest of the bowl was delicious. Very reasonable pricing, 9$+tax gets you 4 delicious tacos and did I mention complimentary tortilla chips with 3 dips? Definitely recommend it here.

shane spector

I am Born and raised Mexican. This place is the perfect example of trying to do a lot of everything but not quite nailing anything. I tried the carnitas, pastor, barbacoa and chorizo tacos. All of them where a bit too greasy and didn't taste the way there supposed to. They were short in terms of spices. The pastor tacos are made from mostly fatty meat and don't taste the way they should. They have too many items on the menu and that compromised quality. Finally, they don't serve beer and that's a deal breaker for me. I wanted a cold michelada with my tacos.

Billy Joseph

You want authentic Mexican food, this is the place to be. I'm giving them 5 stars because you get the taste of the food. Service wise, they are a bit slow. Still it's worth it ????

Keyvan Eslami

Absolutely amazing place. Portions are large, price is small. Service is spectacular and friendly, and quick. We went on a Thursday evening around 4:30 pm for a really early dinner. 0 wait times, we sat where we wanted, they brought corn chips and 3 different salsas - one spicy, one medium, one not spicy. We ordered the enchiladas de mole and the tortilla soup (small). Both items on the menu were so flavorful. Everything here is legit authentic, from the atmosphere, to the kitchen, to the food. 10/10, definitely coming back again to try more items here.

Waan Rasita

My go to place when I have taco cravings. Good price. Good food. Quick service. Perfect. They give free nachos with 3 different Salsas when you arrive. I always take steak tacos !

Gabo Dazfex

Very large selection of Mexican food, server was very polite. Sadly, the plates were dirty, the bathrooms weren't cleaned and our food was cold. Wouldn't recommend it.

Jimmy Fitzback

Wasn't impressed with Pastor and Cabesa tacos

Leo Isaza

Great little find for Mexican food! Not too expensive and super deliciious! They also have small area in the back to buy their products and cook at home! Just bought some tortillas and nachos! Yummy!!! Give them a try and don’t forget to buy a sweet chorizo as you walk out!!!!

Nick W

Waitress was wonderful, bless her heart, the taco bowl on the otherhand was TERRIBLE! I could smell and taste the refrigeration in the taco before it had been fried, yuk! Also I asked for salsa or valentina's hot sauce specifically, they said they had none... I go to pay and there on multiple shelves ate endless bottles of valentinas?!!!! lmao. It's the little things that really make a restaurant stand out. We hope to see things improve!

Huvie Joe

Having moved here from San Diego it's hard to find decent Mexican food here. This place is good.

Alexander Yu

Best tacos in Montreal, go by kilo!

Samochan

Good food, so-so service. Great place to grab a quick snack and pick up 1-2 kilos of tortillas on your way out!

Gordon Price

I thought it was great, the family not so much. Fresh and authentic.

Sarah R

I went there thinking it was halal but luckily i ended up there cause their food tasted so delicious!!! I got fish plate although the quantity was less it was still worth it

Jithin Dinesh

Great food, with a little store inside. Lots of pictures to help you choose your entree. Friendly service.

James Popp

Pretty good Mexican food. Great salsa with the tortilla chips. Not great at taquitos but the other stuff is pretty good.

Maddie Lee

We got tamarind juice, tamales, and Al pastor tacos. Service was great and very quick and the food was delicious. Would highly recommend!!

Natalia W

Good flavor! If you are Mexican and you haven't had Mexican food in a while is a great option to have Mexican dishes. Service was not so good but good and variety was.

Amero Muiny

I love this place! In the summer it's a wonderful place to eat with a view of the market, and the interior is just as charming in the colder months. The service is always quick, polite, charming, and generous. Portion sizes are just right. I love the pozole, and always get something different alongside and havent been disappointed yet.

Mark J Nightingale

Excellent food. Excellent service. Very friendly. Toilets are often congested.

Geoffrey Chu

In my opinion, this place has the tastiest and more original tacos i have had so far in the city! The only place where i can find Veal tongue and belly tacos and it is delicious! I am gluten intolerant and have never had problems with their tacos!

Juan Carlos Diez

I had tortilla soup, tamales and tacos al pastor. They were all delicious. The service was great. I ordered dessert: churros and alfajor, but they were both dry/stale. I would go back for the tacos... mmmm!

Vitali T.

Everytime I went, I tried a different dish and with more than 12 visits I was never disappointed. Great food, great atmosphere and quick service. If you feel like sampling they combine their reataurant with a small supermarket. They even sell most of their sauces for you to enjoy.

ednalully

Home cooking. Best Mexican food in Montreal. Service is quick and friendly. Will definitely go back.

Christian Knudsen

Awful. I ordered food for delivery and they forgot to bring a burrito. I paid way too much for such a terrible service. On top of that, they didn't pick up the phone when I called the restaurant to complaint. Don't order food there for delivery.

Jeff Frenette

No frills authentic Mexican restaurant. Very good and cheap, good service. They don't serve alcohol but are okay with you bringing yours

Alfredo Bellitto

Good food and good prices. Wouldn’t say I’m in love tho. I had the beef tacos. If there’s any waiting don’t wait I don’t think it’s worth it

Christine Caporuscio

Delicious and reasonably priced. Food was excellent! Little market was great. Very efficient and friendly service staff.

WhatsColors

The best horchata I've had in a long time! Delicious and authentic plates. I really enjoyed the gringa!

Mike So

The Mexican in town, and very reasonably priced. And love their churros and Guacamole, always get those to go whenever I am passing by.

Aldo Mota Betanzos

Great food, usually decent service. Perfect place to make you feel away, while being so close to home! :)

Christopher Desalliers

5 star Mexican restaurant Family love is present here Everything as per standard Thank you for having us Great burritos Great tacos Incredible enchiladas We love this place We will recommend this to everyone fiening for Mexican

Simon S

Awesome food. Can highly recommend the pastor tacos or gringas quesadilla. They do it RIGHT! Plus the service is friendly and efficient.

Raheem Albokhari

Yummms! Stumbled into this place by accident but it was not a disappointment! From the front, restaurant looked empty but only later did we realize this place has outdoor seats at the back (connecting to Jean-Talon Market) and was where most the customers were sitting. Not long after we sat, the place quickly filled up. Waiter and cashier were very friendly and helped us a lot! One of our favorite was the tomato soup with nachos inside. Relatively cheap for the big portions!

Monica

Best tacos in town. Simple, traditional, delicious. Great price as well, I suggest you order by half kilos if you have a group of people. EXCELLENT service. Have been coming here for 8 years and will continue to come again.

Anne Shiraishi

Cozy spot for authentic mexican cuisine. The service is great. The place is clean. Food is consistently good and tastes homemade. Not like most typical restaurant where the hold favor seems from the added salt. Here the flavors are true to their nature. Portions are good . You will not leave hungry. They also have a very good mexican breakfast here. So heuvos rancheros , chilaquiles and breakfast burritos are all here andvserved fresh. Highly recommend to anybody looking for good mexican food in Montréal.

Josh Le

Heard about this place from a friend and it was such a nice place. The food was unbelievably delicious. Its a small place but comfortable and the service is great. A 5-minute walk to the subway station and the food is just to die for. They even sell the ingredients they use in their food in take home packages in the back its like a mini grocery store. Brightly colored decor, it really feels like an authentic experience in there!

Haissam Chebaro

Great food but prices are a bit high

Bernard Mauran

A great spot to have lunch after spending the day at Jean talon market. I've tried several different things on the menu and they've all been delicious. Some of my favorites are the soup, huarache and the Plato del dia. Another plus is they put their amazing guacamole on almost everything! Worth a try even if you're not in the area. You can also buy their chorizo sausage togo and cook them for breakfast.

Neto Perez

One day I'll order something different but every time I come here I end up with a plate for of el pastor tacos! Good food, feels home cooked and it actually has spicy salsa at the table unlike 99% of most places in MTL.

Mihai

1st time - very good - burrito - type you need to eat with a fork and knife - lots of sauce - it was take out - had to eat in the car. Next time we are going in and going to go to town on their food. Very excited about going back !!!

Marco C.

Delicious and to the point! Always a good idea to drop in and have a bite. Super friendly staff! Great choices of condiments and other culinary delicacies in the boutique!

Bakery Addiction

Check your bill for accidental overcharges! The food was good but a bit expensive for what you get, I feel like it should have included salsa when ordering tacos by the pound. It included cilantro, onion, lime, tortillas. I picked up some chips with a guacamole on the way out which was $12 for the smallest available size (otherwise $3 for a side cup of guacamole but the server was insistent I buy the bigger one). There would be 3 stars for the food but the kicker of this experience was that when it came time to pay, the $45 menu items were now $71 after tax. I pointed out to the lady I already paid for my guac and chips earlier but she said no, that was the price for what I bought so I thought there must've been a misunderstanding with the order. When we opened it up, it was exactly what we ordered, $30 1/2 kg and $15 1/4 kg. I even found the till receipt in the bag, and she punched it in as exactly that except charged me an extra $20 in the credit card machine. Had to come back to retrieve the additional $20 in cash after emailing them.

Kolby Angiolella

Excellent Mexican food. Price-quality ratio is ideal for the whole family. Definitely recommend it.

Cristóbal Ochoa Luna

Kind of picture looks professional and nice. But I’m sorry to say the taco didn’t went well in my body at all, for 2 reasons food was so fast served means it’s not fresh , second : was big mistake they bring pork tacos ???? which I don’t eat pork for to many reasons, I felt different test in food however in the half of eating , server comes apologize, I tried to be cool but honestly they took all the joe. I don’t understand how all this reviews comes from , either bad day for them or really it’s not fresh food .

Solecitosays

Good Mexican food. The preparation and flavors are true with Mexican cuisine. Not the best taste, but a very good one. The prices are fair and the portions generous. Not good the use of disposable cups.

Brittany Phillips

Horrible experience which began with the ordering process. The menu has no description of the dishes offered (very vague with no details of the ingredients). Ordered quesadillas with queso & guacamole, chorizo-cheese tacos, and beef-tongue tacos. Neither of the plates were accompanied with the usual red and green sauce. Sour cream was added but with an extra cost. The chorizo-tacos were inedible, extremely salty that I was not able to eat. Finally, the beef-tongue tacos were very dry with no sauce or lemon added, which I am usually accustomed to at any authentic Mexican restaurant. 40$ down the drain, I should have ordered from Mr. Azteca which never dissapoints.

Erika Ka Wein Gagnon-Wong

I haven't been to Mexico but this is what I'd think authentic Mexican food would taste like. Definitely try they al pastor tacos and the veal tongue tacos. All the meat is marinated so well: tender and flavourful. Love their salsas too. They give you chips and three types of salsa to snack on while you look through the menu. Can go in their shop after to buy tacos, tortillas, salsa and guac! Service is nice and friendly. They have a decent sized patio for outdoor seating.

Daniela Pinto

This is the best mexicañ food in the city hands down, portions seem to have gotten smaller and they dont offer chips and salsa like they used too. Horchata is always a great choice though.

Nesly Minas

Been going there for years! They have a 10$ taco takeout which is very nice during the pandemic. The tacos taste good and overall the food is just very good for the low price.

Adam

I love this place! The food is delicious (you NEED to try the guacamole) and the service is super fast and friendly

soudabe b

Simple and friendly Mexican with great tamales and gorditos at JT market. Well worth a visit for a quick lunch

Dri C

This is one of my favorite place in Montreal! I used to live very close but now I'm far and if I try to stop whenever I pass by! I recommended Plat du jour, Agneau, soupe de tortilla voir TOUT EST BON!! En famille ou seul toujours un choix de qualité!! Always feel welcomed, a pleasure to come back each time!!

Big Bong

Authentic, affordable, chilled out Mexican joint. The wait staff actually smiles! The meat almost always tastes fresh and juicy. the only criticism i would have is that they seem to cook up all the meat on the same grill, i.e. pork is cooked up where the beef and chicken would be. Not a big fan of their chicken, but the beef menu items are definitely good. and man is their food spicy. wow. there are other grocery items one can pick up at this location.

Paydor

Really good Mexican food. Tastes very authentic. The tacos were really good. The only thing I found just ok was the mole sauce. But that could just be a personal preference because everything else was very good.

Daniel Plamondon

Great service. Fast, super nice and then you get the food... it's sooo good! The fish taco's are amazing. Taco bowl. Yup! I want to go back and have more! Located across from Marcher Jean Talon. Prices are very reasonable for the quality. Close to Metro Jean Talon.

Fernando Torres

I went to the restaurant i talked with the chef told i am Muslim, i eat halal and he made fish and prawns fry for me separately and i really liked what i got ,taste was good .

Jonathan Pereira

There are two parts to this establishment, the first is the restaurant, which serves food that's inspired by Central Mexican cuisine since one of the owners is from Queretaro. So think enchiladas suizas, huaraches, gorditas, ensalada de nopales. The other is a small store where you can buy tortillas, tortilla chips, and sample their many salsas before buying some to bring home. They have candies and snacks from Mexico as well which was a nice surprise for both my kids and I. It was nice to see familiar things on a menu and in a store, as a family from Queretaro. I look forward to going again.

Galo Gutierrez

Best taco place in mtl, quick and kind service, large portions for a reasonable price. First restaurant im heading to after this crisis ????

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE. Amazing food for amazing prices! The servers were always friendly and helpful. Food has always been amazing. I love the Jean Talon Market area, we usually shop and the stop over here for lunch or an afternoon snack. They also sell packaged food. Always pick up some chips and guacamole to bring home! Just love the atmosphere and the people. 10/10 Recommend! Authentic food.

This restaurant is authentic Mexican food. Loved the vegan option they offered. All the choices are delicious and the portions are perfect. The servers were very friendly and polite. Had a great experience I will definitely go back for more delicious food.

Yun Tao Tan

Quality / price is great. Incredible guac and other sauces. Must go.

Gabriel Garcia

It was a great touch to see the chef himself greeting and taking the orders. My wife who is Mexican was impressed with the authenticity of the food ????????

Vaibhav Gupta

Authentic mexican food! One of the few places in Montreal with several mexican dishes at a very good price. One of my favorite places for dinner.

Roberto Castro Vexler

I've probably been here 10 times and have never been disappointed. The food is fresh, tasty, portions are generous and staff is really nice. They continued to serve good food with a smile even during covid times so a huge thumbs up for that to the staff.

Emely Pham

Service good, but sauce too sour.. tastes far away from Mexican food :(

Sarah Bradshaw

Every time i come to MTL i must stop here great food!!!!

Hisham Halabi

I work near this restaurant so I frequent it often. I really like it. Quesadillas and tacos are good value.

Rosa Schawill

Simply horrible! Not recommended at all. On 3 occasions we had take out and the tortillas turned out soggy after 10 minutes. The meat did not even taste good either. 3 strikes your out! Do yourself a favour, look elsewhere!

Shaun Leslie Turriff

We did not find the traditional Mexican taste we expected from the dishes. The rice was unlike anything else, the fish sauce was odd, plate garnishing wasn't close to an american-mexican fusion. However the service was good, and they took notes when we said what we did not like.

Debora Moraes

My first visit to El Ray in a few years and I was pleasantly surprised that the food, service and cleanliness has improved a lot. I'll go more often now.

Maylis Champagne

The best Mexican restaurant in Montreal. Super fast and reasonable prices

Daniel Horn

Real authentic Mexican cuisine!

Daniel Excellent

This will never be a Mexican food restaurant, it is detestable that it is advertised like that, I have traveled throughout the Mexican Republic, and I have never eaten something so detestable, for anyone not initiated in typical Mexican food it could be something acceptable, but it will never be food Mexican, that the owner be honest and explain what his version of what he thinks Mexican food is

Diana Archer

Best authentic Mexican food in Town. Not an fancy upscale restaurant but it's also part today the charm. They also sell all sorts of salsas , tortillas and everything you need for a Mexican feist at home. Definitely recommended !

augustin delporte

My burritos were underwhelming and the meat used was clearly not good quality. It's great to buy Mexican products but wouldn't recommend as a Mexican restaurant

joe laurieri

Five Star for some on the best Tacos I ever ate. Each taco dish is about nine to ten dollars and you get four of them. But the flavors are amazing. My personal favorite was the cow tongue. Please try it. Second was the carnitas pork. It had a good mix of fat and meat. Third was the lamb or veal. I don't remember. But it also had some fat pieces and tasted like bacon. I also like Al pastor because I love pineapple. The decor is pretty much for anyone to just eat and not be at a pretentious restaurant.

Le Nguyen

Ordered burritos this time around - didn't quite like it as it was wet and soggy from the salsa. Was also unevenly salty. The last time I visited this place, I had tacos and it was good. But the burritos were a disappointment.

Mike C. Chung

I loved the food, the dishes I ordered were good and the horchata was refreshing. However for me I think there was a language barrier. Totally not their fault but the waiter kept speaking to us in French even though they could speak English. We requested English but they didn't seem to acknowledge it. Perhaps their English isn't too good, I have no idea. Besides that it was a wonderful experience.

iNinjutsu

We went there for a quick family & friends meal. The service was under average, yet not rude nor bad. The food, howerver, was very good, and quite exceptional for the price. Try getting various plates "by the weight" and share!

Deepak Sridhar

I used to LOVE the pozole at this place. I would go every time I felt homesick because it was so close to the actual Mexican taste of pozole. But then something happened and they changed the recipe, making the pozole so flavourless and flat.. What a disappointment. The tamales are super salty and there is really no other dish that is worth the drive. No reason to go back and definitely sending people there.

Gabriella

Very close to real mexican food. My friend ordered a torta and I asked if they had pozole and they said yes so I ordered it, after a long wait, the waiter came to tell me they didn't actually have pozole, so I had to order something else, while my friend had already his torta in front of him. The waiter mentionned that if you wanted to tip him it's better for him if you leave it at the table than doing it at the cash (uhm...) Anyways, you can also buy your latin-american products there and the food is good.

Vinny Maxta

Always loved the food here. The service is great as well. Not a lot of places still sell meat by weight to share at make your own tacos.

Sebastien Sicard

Great authentic food, great service and great assortment of prepared foods to take to go as well!

doubleA2120

Great food, don't get fooled by the basic decor. Easily the best tacos I've eaten in Montreal yet. Their salsa verde is mental.

Ham Solo

I've had a few things here, but I have to say it's a bit hit or miss - but ALWAYS expensive. The tortillas do not always feel fresh (sometimes quite stale and chewy), and just not worth the money for a meal that leaves me feeling hungry after.

Lisa George

The food is authentic but sometimes not that good. The service is great but the food could be better in terms of quality but then again for the price I'd say it's a fair deal.

Sovan D.

Easily the best Mexican restaurant I have been to. Genuine staff and oh man, what food! Please go there and you won't be disappointed. They have Horchata and the traditional got chocolate too.

Nigrantium

LOVE THIS PLACE!! Try the Carne tacos plate, don't forget to ask for both sauces. Mix and ready to go in your tummy. You will love it

Karl Azrak

Decent food and prompt service

Justine

This place is the real deal. So many taco joints in town, its nice to come here and try real tacos and authentic Mexican fare for a change. No more hipster tacos for me.

nikkikickshard

Absolutely delicious. Have ordered from here a few times but decided today to visit the restaurant. Great terrace looking out onto jean talon market. Nacho supremo is the best nachos I've ever had.

Navin Sekhon

Good mexican restaurant, a lot of dishes option, good prices, service is fast and you can buy some home made products.

Zachary Jurkowski

Food is fresh and delicious! We got the al pastor tacos and the steak tacos. The meal comes with 4 tacos and a small portion of rice for $11 tax in. I found the price extremely decent for the generous portions. The staff was nice and welcoming.

shadee vernet

Food was excellent. Roi indeed! The simplicity and warmth of the location next to the Jean Talon market made it especially enjoyable as well! That's without mentioning the hospitality and service of Ravi, our waiter who ran back and forth without skipping a beat, ensuring we enjoyed our experience. Please give the kid a bumper raise. Definitely returning!

Milorie Bérubé

Al Pastor Tacos + 7 Day Chorizo + Pork Carne???? In Honor of taco fest I figured Id post about one of my favourite places to get great, affordable and authentic tacos here in Montreal. El Rey Del Taco aka the King of Tacos is located in Little Italy smack in the middle of all the action in the Jean Talon Market. It's in a perfect location and has a beautiful terrasse open all summer to enjoy the day looking at the hustle and bustle of the market while devouring some great eats. I've gotten I think a good 1/3 of things that they have on the menu. From the ceviche, to the cubano sandwich. My favorite thing tho and the thing that made them famous is the tacos. Whether your getting the babacoa, pulled pork, beef tacos or even fish tacos they are all amazing. One of my favourite things tho are the Al Pastor Tacos you see here in the picture. The pork is marinated for hours and then slow cooked in the rotisserie to let all those delicious juices flow in the meat. The fresh corn tortillas that are as traditional as you can get. All topped with amazing fresh cilantro and sweet sweet pineapple giving this taco exactly what it was begging for. . Amazing place and authentic vibe, go there asap! ????????????

Dawn Boivin

First time there this saturday.Food was ok. Waitress was not very helpful. We wanted to buy some dried up chilis and noticed all bags were full of little bugs/flies. When we advised the workers they were suprised to see that. The manager/owner was sitting there and when he was told. He said it was normal. The worker proceeded to put the bag back on shelf like nothing...grossed out.

Mario Mikulić

Ordered takeout....Food arrived soggy and nothing seemed fresh. I also do not like that the food is delivered in styrofoam. Not ordering from here again.

G Nozza

Real Mexican food, the dishes are big and with good taste, love the "tacos Al pastor" and the beverage "horchata" the bad thing is that we received an amazing service when the boss was near, but without the boss, we received the bill without asking for it and without finishing, obviously after the bill no one came to the table if we wanted something else.

Roxane Abigail

We were at another Mexican restaurant and they happen to run out of churros so the lady suggested El Rey Del taco as they had the same churros. So we called and asked them to keep some aside for us and since we were going here for the first time we thought of trying their chorizo tacos and so when I called I asked for just the chorizo tacos with the spicy sauce. When we picked the order and bought it home I realized that they gave us the chorizo taco meal which had guac, rice and some chopped onions with cilantro and lime so I called them to ask them if they gave me a wrong order since I wanted just the 4 chorizo tacos that the lady when I had called told me comes as one order. So this guy on the phone says no they don’t do just tacos for take away…apparently the rice and guac goes with the tacos!!! I confirmed this twice on the phone with him but I still need to check their menu because that’s just weird! What if I just wanna buy tacos?! And not pay for the guac rice and onions?! I’m sure it’s gotta be cheaper for just the tacos right???! Anyway the chorizo in the tacos was meh! So this was quite disappointing and we shall stick with our regular taco shop. The churros were amazing and yes they were the same as the other taco shop! This place seems to have ready to take mole sauces and a lot of other Mexican sauces & fresh chips too!

Lenore CH

Service is good, employee was welcoming. I gotta say that the food is mediocre, not the best tacos in Montreal for sure. 6/10

Linda Terrier

The best Mole sauce!!!! I dream of it every now and again. I cannot wait to go back. I will buy some to take home. Their salsas are amazing too.

Jean-Sebastien Heroux

The best thing about Montreal! Their food is awesome, the service is great and the hot sauce you can buy at the back is worth a trip to Montreal on its own!

Jessy Tardif

The food was good but I had better vege burritos elsewhere. I would probably not have it again.

Benya

Great authentic Mexican cuisine at a hard to beat price. Best value in town. Staff is super friendly. Definitely worth the stop.

Rikko “Scot” Weatherup

Cannot purchase different tacos to get a sample of different kinds. The menu only has one type of tacos in a meal so i was only able to try the beef tacos and if I wanted to try a different kind I had to purchase another meal and they were not that tasty

Daniela F

Great authentic Mexican food!! Not that 3-amigo type of fake mexican food. They used to have great staff as well however that had changed. Now they hired some non-mexican-or-latino french-speaking waiters who do not seem happy at all to serve you; they nevertheless expect you to leave a tip.

Julie Begin

Tourist trap to be avoided. I had a sopa the tortilla, a concoction which would have made any Mexican shudder. The small portion was tiny, half of a small bowl, and grossly overpriced at $9.95. I followed up with the saddest quesadilla ever, served thrown on a plate with zero acompaniment of any sort, not even plain salsa on the table. For $8 I expected much better. There are several genuine taco places within 3-4 city blocks. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else.

joey mise

A good selection of traditional Mexican food. Great tacos and soups. Fast service. Good prices. They also have a selection of groceries such as their house made salsa and guacamole to purchase.

Courtney Morse Rao

Fast service and the best tacos! The Plato Del Dia gives you mixed meats and you make your own tacos. So so good

Luther Pierre-Toussaint

Pretty good taco experience after hearing of hype. Flavour, portion, and price were good. Everything would have been perfect, but they added a red sauce on top of the tacos before serving it and it masked the flavour of the meat. It was the first taco place I've seen add it, and I'd recommend asking them to hold it off. They served chips and salsa (mild, medium, and spicy) which was a nice touch. They also have a lot of prepared, bottles, and canned goods for sale. I got 1KG of corn tortillas for $5.

Félix St-Laurent

Variety of options and quick service. I loved the vegetarian Taco. However vegetarians have limited option. Comeon, I cant expect a latin restaurant oto be vegfriendly! A very good place Now, after 2 year. I went to this place again :) Again Great options, decent price!!

Bao Phan Dinh

The flavours are definitely there, but I was really not expecting what I got. The supreme nachos is actually a rather small portion of nachos, but what really disappointed me was the state of the chips. There were barely any crispy chips, everything was soft and moosh, the black beans look like they went through a blender and there was way too much liquid in that plate, in my opinion. I ordered extra cheese, and even then, there was barely any cheese. Now don't get me wrong, the food is tasty and the service is alright, that being said, compared to other mexican restaurants, this place doesn't deserve more than 3 stars. I have high standards when it comes to food, thus I give it 2 stars. I would be open to return if the menu were to change. Respectfully, Matt

Kat G

This was the worst delivery I ordered in my life. A lot of the food fell out of the styrofoam boxes into the bags. There were literally 2 spoons of rice mixed with undercooked veggies and the black bean thing was half a tea spoon. The burrito was half full and badly wrapped. We ordered 4 tacos and only got 3. I have never been this insulted in my life. This is SLOPPY SLOPPY SLOPPY WORK.. I should've kept my 50 box. I am still hungry and had to go buy food again criss.

Yoni

Best Mexican food in Montreal!!!! Love going back and each time the food tastes amazing. Their servers are very nice and cordial. Good job guys!

CAI GAN XIAN Lucas

The food here is just simply below average. Authentic doesn't automatically mean good. Just a waste of money and time. It's also overpriced given the quality and feels like a tourist trap.

Andres Lopez

Delicious Food and Outstanding Service. The salsa is Unsurpassed. Our Family Really Enjoyed the Meal. Thank you Chef and Team!

Monika Ag

dont listen to all the haters who gave this place 1-2 stars , this is by far , one of the Best Mexican restaurants in Montreal , the food is just amazing - sauces ,salads ,tacos just WOW a taste of Mexico . we had this restaurant cook for us at my sisters House , i couldnt stop eating ..... Would Recommend !

Lena JOE

Authentic Mexican cuisine and a super courteous staff have made this quaint resto a must when I find myself in the vicinity.

Jacques-Etienne Paradis

I had high expectations but wasn't super impressed. The burrito was meh, refried black beans were great, but the rice was pretty terrible. Maybe it was a bad day? Service was super friendly, quick and overall pretty good, though.

Grayson Carpenter

For 10$ you get a nice big plate of 2 chicken burritos with rice, beans . Can't really go wrong. Just what the doctor ordered. The burrito plate is big so get tacos if you aren't really hungry.

Therealllgabman13

Food is well made and big portions for the price, but way too salty!

Rachel Smith

Worst Customer Service. Bitchy and entitled waitress just made the establishment lose my friends and me as patrons. Disappointing to meet Javier Munoz, a very unprofessional owner. If he ever shown his mug at my place of business I'd treat him with the same courtesy. The place seemed to be a chill spot to grab lunch till I met him. The food is cheap but not that great to put up with the arrogant staff. I could just imagine if they cater to clients the same way they prepare their food, it's a thought. Best advice is stay away. For all of you gringos that gave this place 4-5 stars dont know squat about what mexican food should taste. I've tasted better from street venders.

Johanne Jambon

Dine in

Boris Knyazev

The food is pretty good, meat well marinated and well cooked and sauces are good too. I'd like maybe more generous garnish other than meat for the inside but apart from that, it's pretty good.

Jessica Hood

Most authentic Mexican I have had since moving to Vermont from So. CAL. Bought a container of the house salsa to take home- amazing! I wish I loved in Montreal because this would be a frequent stop to shop and eat!

Stephane Lagrange

Great Mexican food in Jean Talon market! I love going there when I'm in Montreal!

Vanessa M.

Delicious Mexican place, and super inexpensive too, with huge portion enough to fill up any stomach. We've been regulars here since first trying it a few years back, the staffs are attentive and always come to check out if we need anything extra. I've never been to Mexico but my Mexican professor said this place was the closest to authentic Mexican food (he hated 3 Amigos)!

Diego Garzón

Decent Mexican food, and authentic. My grilled veggie plate was flavorful. However, I asked for no cheese, no cream (vegan) and they still sprinkled cheese on the beans.

Jonathan Dubois

Amazing food, great products, and always friendly people! I love El Rey Del Taco

Sebastien Haspect

we ordered there for the first time seeing how everything looked so great and the reviews.. it took an hour ti receive the order, we were missing one of our two plates so my boyfriend didnt had his food basically.. the nachos we got were absolutely disgusting, crushed and somehow dry and soggy.. -10/10 will never order from there again unfortunately.

Anthony Zwierzchowski

Great price for authentic Mexican food, could be a little cleaner. But over all great food and service.

Simon O'Connor Huard

Probably my favorite spot in town for Mexican. I had the lamb Enchiladas plate and it was delicious. The price is very reasonable and service was efficient. I would totally recommand.

Nick Attardo

I just had a terrible experience at the take-out counter. I ordered (like I have several times before) 500 g of fresh chorizo so that I could take it home to make later this evening. I was surprised to find out that the guy behind the counter started cooking it up! I immediately told him, also the person behind the cash and another server that that was not what I wanted. I said it several times, and they kept saying that they don't sell fresh chorizo... but I've bought it there several times before. They said that they only sell it frozen in 2 k bags... but I've bought 500 g of fresh (not frozen) chorizo there before. The guy who cooked it up said that he didn't have any fresh chorizo to give me, and that I would like it better the way he cooked it, and that he "didn't cook it all the way." I said, that's not what I want again. Anyway, stupid me, I paid for it--$28!!! (for 5 fresh tomatillos, a bag of chips, a bag of tortillas). I was so angry I couldn't speak. I should have just said I didn't want any of it, and should have walked out. My daughter was with me, so I just kept my anger in check, paid and left. I will never spend another cent in that place. I've been there for lunch once before, and the food was mediocre at best, but I used to enjoy going there for chorizo every once in a while to make a quick dinner at home. Next time, I'll go to the latino market that is a few blocks away.

Kat Ryder

Never judge a book by its cover restaurant may not be the place for a relax evening on a date or loved one but excellent Mexican food.

Alysia L

I ordered them from a food delivery service, asked for a few modifications extra sauce, etc they went OVER THE TOP to please me, and the food was great. Delivery took an hour but was exactly on time with the advertised delivery. I cant believe how nice they were! Plus the salsa verde is ultra spicy and great texture. Would recommend. Will order again.

Daniel Woo

This place is incredible, If you're in the Jean-Talon market/ little IT area, do yourself a favour and stop by. Food quality is great and has a home cooked feel to it. Portions are decent and price is fine. Can get very busy..

Steve Cormier

Good food. It was, strangely enough, a little bland... We didn't ask for any extra spices, so maybe they Americanize their dishes... Ceviche was refreshing and delicious.

D. Chung

This is an excellent Latin American restaurant. The food is very authentic and expertly prepared. The server was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Most of the menu is gluten free with the exception of the quesadilla style items. The tamales were delicious and all of the ingredients and sauces are available for purchase in the attached market. What an amazing find in the Jean Talon Market area.

TheLaxx 5

This is one of the best Taco places in Montreal. They have a varied menu of tasty delights. The guacamole is filling and flavorful (and you can take it home with you from their shop!). The taco bowl definitely has a homemade shell and the filling is a cacophony of flavors. Definitely get the tacos to start with and a horchata. You wont be disappointed. End your mean with a churro for the perfect finale.

Michael MacIver

When you get your bill you pay in the shop area, where you can buy the products you just ate. The hot sauce was really good.

Ben Husband

By far the best Mexican restaurant/bistro in Montreal. Full stop. Feels like home.

Anne

Great place for authentic mexican food. The tacos were delicious. Delicious refried beans. Nice staff. Only complaint is the cleanliness is questionable.

Nader

It's ok. If you're on a budget or if you're in the mood to eat on a student budget. We ordered the grillade dish, small cuts of meat that was put together quickly. The best years are behind them.

Danny Lake-Giguère

So freaking good, enchiladas are great. Love the buy one get one free deals on Uber eats.

I’m usually always in California and had the best Mexican food! I came here with no expectation and was excited. It’s a pretty big place and got packed pretty quickly during dinner rush. I had the Al Pastor tacos, Soupe de Tortilla and Guacamole. It was good! Make sure to order their home made horchata, I love their version because it wasn’t like drinking sugar (like in Cali) lol the best I’ve had! Also their dessert, Churro and Alfajor. Been day dreaming of those desserts since! Sorry no photos of it, I got too excited and ate it ????

Vianney Ronu

Good food and stuff to take away. Bring your own beer though. A small craft beer spot just a few doors away in case you want to add that to your meal.

Shivangi Sharma

It is a must to eat here. The menu has tons of food to choose from, and very hard to pick one!!! Love this place ????????????

Ben Benkio

I'm giving 2 stars because, although the food is ok, the attitude of the chef is really disappointing. It was last Saturday when I went to have lunch with my gf, around 1 pm...the place was super crowded and I was able to see only 2 servers. Even our waiter was literally running from one side to another, his service was super friendly and he was really helpful. When I was ready to pay, I asked him how many waiters were working at that shift (I swear, the place was super crowded and I was impressed that only 2 guys were doing everything!)...he just simply smiled and said: I'm sorry if my service was not good enough, we try to do our best. When I was in the line up to pay, I heard who I think is the owner (the chef who is cooking upfront) shouting at who was my waiter that how come nobody was "inside" providing service to people who were there. I was super upset... Man!! they are literally running all over the place and you're still asking them more to do?? This guy should be thankful of the amazing staff he has! I would love to have this kind of workers in my company. At the end I gave a well deserved 25% tip to our server because he really deserved it. So people, if you ever go to this place, be patient with your waiters, and hopefully the owner changes his attitude towards his staff.

Ashley Johnson

Really tasty even though I'm not a fan of Mexican food in general. I only tried Taco Gobernador with fish and although it's messy to eat it with hands, it's really nice and big, but it's not heavy to digest so your stomach will thank you.

Jean-Rene David

Very good Food. Tacos were really amazing specially the lamp tacos. Portions were pretty big????????

Minal C.

I dined here with my family pre-covid and it was awesome! Food was fresh and service was good. I really enjoyed the soup and tacos. Fresh ingredients, great taste and friendly vibe.

Anna

Best Mexican food in Montreal love this place so tasty tastes like food in Mexico

David Persad

drove two hours just to eat here and it was worth it. Try the horchatta!

Clelio Neto

My girlfriend and I are used to Frida's in St -Henri and El Rey doesn't even come close to that place in terms of food quality.

Melissa Alvarez

Good food, but waitresses and waiters are rude.

Adam Djourian

Good Mexican food! The hot sauce that serve with nachos was soo good!!! I had taco with Angus beef. It was perfect! The price is good. Staffs are nice and friendly. Space is big and enough for big group too. Go check them out!

Lupa Duende

Food came out fast, service was ok - we didnt feel welcomed. I had the burrito del mar which was ok. My wife had the quesadilla el ray, i think, which was really bad. It was soggy and cold as though it had been frozen first then warmed up.

Irene Valdes

Best tacos in town, was a bit confused when I arrived, wondered where I had to sit ( 2 entrances, front and back ) Food was tastefully good

Cindyann Andrew

Real Mexican food I love this place. As a Mexican I can say a lot of Mexican restaurants in Montreal don't have the real flavor of Mexican cuisine but this one does. If I could I would give 10 stars

Kanan Sethi Jawa

I come here often with my friends, everybody loves this place. It is vegeterian/vegan friendly. Although vegans can find it harder than vegeterians to eat here, it isn't impossible, so you can just ask to take the creams and cheese out of the vegeterian options and you are set! I always go back :) oh buy keep in mind their quesadillas are super small, so I'd always get a bigger option if you are hungry.

Virginia

Love It, but after the pandemic they raised the price sooo much ........ It soo disappointed

Ioulia Serapins

Great and delicious authentic Mexican food. Only reason it not a 5 star, location is pretty low key.

Kimberly Elston

Maybe I haven't tried the right dishes yet. I just wasn't wowed. The food is ok

Mathieu Del Papa

I got the enchiladas rojas and was not impressed by them. The flavour of the salsa ranchera was pretty bland. Nonetheless the server was very kind and the food came out in less than 5 minutes after ordering it. I would not spend my own money on a meal at this place again, but if someone else was paying I would try another dish.

Erika De Torres

Pozole était extra salty nasty

Assches S

You should absolutely try this place. If you are foodie and into south American cuisine. Step in and order anything. The only thing, while sitting you feel that you are in a very small place.

killernat

ok I am a girl who likes her food and it doesn’t have to be fancy just good. This place is simple, clean and know how to make a delicious taco. Lots of choices and free chips and salsa to start. Try the specialty sodas they are all great.

flo lau

The tacos were ok, unfortunately due to the mask mandate in addition to the plexiglass divider at the cash where I made my to go order, there was some confusion about the type I had ordered, so while one was ok, the other wasn't something I eat and when I addressed the issue they just kinda shrugged it off. One of the 4 people in our group who ordered also didn't hear her name get called, because it wasn't her name, but we waited about 30 minutes until inquiring only to find out why she hadn't heard her name and picked up her cold tacos and left. Wasn't the worst experience, but wasn't exactly the best.

Michael LaCroix

Very authentic food. Great quality and price. Can get very busy but servers are very nice. This place also has a very small grocery section. Fresh salsa, guacamole, tortillas, tortilla chips and churros, plus many other things.

Samantha D.

Best taqueria in Montreal. Having been to Mexico and having tasted real tacos, I’d have to say, this place is as good or better than the average tacos in Mexico. I have tasted better but only in Mexico. The pork Carnitas is amazing and the soups are authentic. Ask for oregano and extra limòn. The price is reasonable and the service is great. This is the only place I would go to for authentic and tasteful Mexican cuisine. P.s. the Horchata is amazing. I always order the pitcher.

William Roy

Bad staff there treatment is worst i went there pick up the order he put me for wait I asked twice if its ready after 23 minutes he says cancel or wait more

Joshua Bobbitt

Had the special of the day "taco de cabesa" and it was deliscious. Strongly recommend this place and they even have many food ingredients on sale like tomatillo and dried chilis and many other typical mexican ingredients

Krystel S.

Really good Mexican food at cheap price. Amazing service and way better than 3 amigos ????

MaXxX “MaX” XaAaM

Good service, very fast. Unfortunately, not sure about the freshness of the food. The carnitas meat had a lot of fat and tissues other than meat which I didnt like very much.

Simon Turner

Found a hair in the food. The couple of bites I took before I found it were nothing to write home about. Not bad, not amazing, just over priced and unhygienic.

Xin Jia Wang

There's a reason for so many bad reviews... Food was ok at best. We had two orders of tacos hoping to keep things simple. Meat was dry and borderline tasteless. We also ordered two glasses of hibiscus juice but never got to taste any of it as they never found their way to our table but were on the bill when it was time to pay. I debated between raising a stink to get them removed and tipping 10% or paying for them and leaving no tip whatsoever. For the first time in my life, I chose the latter. Anyways, definite no-no on going back there.

Mariov Vava

Amazing everything! Awesome food!!!????????????????????????????????????????????????

Kaitlyn P

I am very surprised with all the nice reviews about this place. One of the worst Mexican restaurant I have ever been. The place is filthy, small and crowded. I almost thought to turn around and find something else in the area, but given all the good reviews about the food, decide to still give it a chance. It took at least 10-15 for someone to come and take our order and another 30 min for the food to arrive. The tacos were subpar. I had pork tacos and there was more fat than porc meat. My husband got chicken tacos and chicken was dry. However the cleanliness of the place was the biggest issue for me - If they cannot keep the dining area and washrooms clean, what state is the kitchen at then.

olivier giroud

On june 11, 2021 I ordered a vegetarian dish for take out. I was surprised to see the price was increased by almost 3 $.before pandemic. It was around 13 $.now. it cost you 16 $ taxes not included. With taxes, it will cost you more than 18 $. Another thing that shocked me, more than rising the price, is the quantity. Your vegetarian dish quantity was reduced. You almost got the half quantity. I will never go back to this restaurant because of this attitude of increasing the price and reducing the quantity. Such bad attitude toward client means stealing money and considering customers full ignorant and stupid. AY

chen yu

Love this place! Fish tacos, guac! Organized takeout. Right next to Jean Talon. Fresh corn tortillas. Best in.Montreal.

Jillian G

Good atmosphere, very friendly staff, prompt service reasonable prices for dishes. Would definitely recommend!! Possible to purchase sauces but are pricey.

Mario Calitri

One of the best quick dish Mexican places in town. Sadly, they were renovating the last time I went and it made eating there a little uncomfortable. Food was still great though.

Richard Dinel

The best tacos ever! And super affordable! I've been to so many places where they charge $12 for 3 tacos. But here, the average price for a taco plate is about $9 for 4 tacos!! And it's amazinnnng! And the rice, ohmygod the rice is delicious. We got 3 taco plates, extra guacamole and extra rice for $40! So cheap! They also give us some chips and salsa once you're seated in the restaurant! They really are the king of tacos!!

Christian Deschepper

Got to be the best authentic Mexican food you could ever want and get. Plenty of little things you can pick up for home as well. Staff are so sweet and accommodating. Quick service.

Mania Papadopoulos

I didn't like the food. I'm Mexican and I know how Mexican food is made. I understand that here you can't have the same ingredients but t least you try to make a good flavored food.

Kam Her

Love coming to this place with the kids. Delicious and fresh traditional Mexican food.

P.B H

Little jewel with fabulous food and awesome staff. Very casual restaurant with big portions . One of our favorite restaurants when visiting Montreal.

Joe Thingz

Excellent food!! Very affordable and the menu offers a great variety for all types of pallets. I enjoy la sopa de tripas and the meat by kilo (????) , so you can eat as you are hungry with a constant refill of all the condiments ! I strongly recommend for some good food!

Newman Thurairatnam

Great, friendly service and amazing home cooked meals. The portions are generous.

Matt Penso

Very good, fair prices, a beautiful discovery!

Jon Keane

Very poor customer service. We weren’t greeted by anyone when we entered the establishment so we approached the first employee we saw. When we mentioned that it would be a take out order she just pointed to the cash, didn’t even give us a menu. We waited around 30 mins for our food and when we got home we were disappointed by the quality of our meals It’s sad because we used to come here all the time for their barbacoa but after this last experience I don’t think we are coming back.

Paul Ciaraldi

We ordered with Just Eat, our order was missing 1 of 5 Tacos we have ordered (and paid for) my bad for not checking the order before paying, but that wouldnt be a big deal if the tacos were actually good, but unfortunately they were not. Meat was dry and everything besides the rice was bland. Maybe it's just a bad luck or a bad day for them. Too bad.

Seb Forget

Great little Mexican restaurant with an authentic vibe. What makes this restaurant special though is that it doubles as a grocery store with all of the restaurants home made products for sale: guacamole, salsa of all types, tortillas, etc....

Corin R

This place is great! the food is authentic and full of wonderfull flavors, the service is fast and on point and the prices are easely affordable.

Cindy M

My favorite Mexican food. I love the Tostadas and the Plato Vegetariano. The guacamole is a must.

Shyam Sunder Venkatesan

Great little Mexican restaurant right in the heart of Jean Talon market. You can enjoy the good food on the outside terasse while doing some people watching. I had the fish tacos (my fave dish) & as usual it didnt disappoint. Generous portions & well priced. Service was pretty quick & friendly staff. A must-try! Definitely recommend it! ????????????

Maxime Legault

Not the best but definitely a convenient place to have lunch while running your errands at the Marché Jean-Talon next door. Service was quick and done with a smile. Food was decent for the price I paid. I'll go back for sure.

Kaye James

I went to this Mexican Resto because of the reviews. Unfortunately, I am so much regreted after trying their 2 dishes and some extra on the go ready meals such as sour creams! I got sick for 3 days after the day I ate the food which hadn't happened to me even after taco bell foods! KEEP AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. It changed my view on mexican food forever????

Mark Mustoe

Just ordered lamb birria to go. Both containers of it were barely full. And at most maybe had 2 small pieces of lamb it was mainly just broth. Incredibly disappointed and definitely feel cheated. Pedi 2 birrias para llevar. Fue puro caldo con a lo mucho 2 pedacitos de carne. Super mala onda y muy tranzas aqui.

John Martel

Nothing fancy but it serves the best Mexican food in town.

Marlon Gonzalez

My favourite mexican restaurant in the whole city!

The 1/2 meat was good, nice presentation. But would be better if we had some cream like in other Mexican restaurants. We ordered Orchata and it wasn't cold, tasted like warm milk. That was the biggest turn off. We overall, it was ok.

Great service, tips you leave on the table.Taco al pastor es muy rico ! Will need few more visits to try out the menu.

Service is good, after the sauces, tortillas and grilled fish really not so good, fish was so soft it melted on itself, like if it came from freezer

It was a good experience on a busy Sunday. I ordered chicken tacos, they were delish. I love how they bring water and nachos asap, i love that and how if your solo they place you with another. It gave me the opportunity to meet and talk with a great person.

Anna Jolly

Meal was good but felt prepared for Montreal palate. Seen it all over the world, Please be honest to your native cuisine. If it is too spicy, or authentic in any manner, so be it! Ambiance was nice, staff efficient and place was busy.

Fatima Khan

Four stars because: - the food tasted like other Mexican restaurants, nothing super exceptional - some dishes are girly priced - not very expensive - the take out presentation or uber eats delivery is messy. One box with no compartments mix the food - tried twice, but the nachos were not crispy - the stars appears to be decent / but not friendly.

Charles-Alexandre Cloutier

This spot is one of my favorite Mexican restaurant in Montreal. The main entrance in on Jean-Talon but you can also access it from the back (directly from the J-T market). This place looks small but it really isn't. The service is quick and very cordial. The food always taste great, they have a mind blowing Tortilla soup that I totally recommend! The only downside is that you can't pay your bill at your table, you need to pay at the cash register, right next to their mini market section, so you have people trying to shop that are blocking the way for those who want to pay and vice versa.

Stephane Kyle

Excellent Mexican food. One of my favorite Mexican palaces in montreal but does get crowded during lunch. If you want a spot on the terrace try to avoid being seated near the outside unless you like douchbags putting their hand/elbows right next to your face.

Pris G

One of my favorite mexican restaurants in montreal. Good portions and excellent food. Staff is also super nice

Zara Shafaat

The Tacos here are amazing, so much so that we ended up ordering more! The staff were also super friendly and quick to bring us our food.

Barry Baxter

Nice restaurant. Very friendly waiters. Would recommend to any one who wants to eat Mexican

Dgate Cycle

Fish tacos were not like I was expecting, more like a sauté rather than crispy fried fish with crunchy cabbage but there's a big menu and the staff is very nice.

Dina Grigorakis

Very disappointed! We were craving for some good tacos but everything was lacking flavour! We ordered the tacos al pastor and veal tongues and we couldn't taste the flavour of the meat at all nor any grilled flavour. The hibiscus and tamarind juice saved them a bit.

Zachary Bettan

Alanna Albert

Amazing tacos, great value! Nice terrace and great staff. Shame they don't serve beer!

Angel Villegas

Favorite tacos in town so far ... Definitely recommend!! Lots of room, quick service, nice waiters, great cooks ...

Sergi P.

As a Mexican, I can say that nothing that we ate have the Mexican taste, besides we got stomach ache, the only good was the Horchata and Tamarindo water

Carmen carriero

I saw a picture of the churros on Instagram and I drove 40 minutes just to try them !!! I was really exited about it. I was so disappointed, they were cold, dry, small and expensive. 2 for 5$

Adrian Fernandez

I had heard a lot about this place because of their customer service which they say is not good at all! Today I went to the place and they treated me very well, the food is excellent, I dare say that one of the places where the food is really excellent, the prices are a bit high but they are worth it! . I honestly recommend it a lot, you can also find some Mexican items, the portions are adequate and full of flavor !! CONGRATULATIONS REY DEL TACO ????. Esta vez se volaron la barda ????????????????

Dave Barth

My God...the best Mexican restaurant in the area. And the best guacamole : regular is chunky but the spicy guacamole is for the advised customer. Available also in some groceries in Villeray.

Aaron Ludmer

Last weekend I ordered the vegetarian tamales. Figured I would get mushrooms and onions or variety of vegetables. I got chicken. The rice was ok but certainly not anywhere near authentic or even tex-mex. The Adelita Tortas was sloppy and reminiscent of Asian food. I'm giving it a 2 star because tamales were tamales and the order came quick. Wish they would spend few more minutes actually making vegetarian meals

Yoann Lussier

The El Rey del Taco restaurant serves Mexican cuisine. (In case you cant tell from the name) The restaurant is located next to the Marché Jean-Talon. They have an entrance in the front on Rue Jean-Talon and also in the back where the outdoor sitting is situated next to the market. Seat yourself, and the staff will bring the menu, chips, and three kinds of salsa. The food is reasonably priced, and we enjoyed our meal. Beef tacos were great. Definitely, a place to visit if you want to try something different.

Dan

It’s the most delicious restaurant of mexicain food! The service is good, fast and friendly! Can’t wait to come back again

Louis G

We ordered 1/2 a kilo to go, they were so generous with the tortillas and salsa! The food was amazing! My favorite place to eat mexican food in Montreal

J C

Wait one hour plus for my delivery and they forgot to put my sauce and the tortillas!!! Call back to tell them... "Ok we send it to you" 1hour30 later still wait... the meal is cold and when I call back again "Oh we sorry" ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!? 2H30 And I still waiting!!! Did you wait for my 30$ when I was payin'!?!?disgusting service !!!! Shame on them Worst customer service ive seen in a while ????????????????????

Hareesh Bahuleyan

Really great authentic mexicain food. Prices are very reasonable. If you are at least 3 ppl i strongly suggest getting your taco filling by weight (last page of the menu). You will eat like a king and you can add as much or aa little filling as you want. Guac is also very good. They so catering as well which is fantastic. We ordered a total of 6kgs of meat and veggies and 25 ppl and it came with the fixings. Just awesome.

Marie-Léa Girouard

Best Mexican food I had in Montreal. Very authentic and tasty. The service is really fast and friendly!

Saul Hernandez

Tacos were good!!! The meat well seasoned!!! The servers seem overwhelmed though...they be running right and left! So u have to catch one on the fly. I would ,definitely, order for take- out! Authentic Mexican food

Tanya Muscle

Dined in late December 2021. My table was dirty with food from the previous clients. Waiter cleaned it promptly after I complained. There is a set with forks knives and napkins that stays on the table client after client. I explained the waiter that if someone sneezes on the table the whole set gets contaminated but there wasn't much he could do about it. This restaurant clearly doesn't meet the minimum sanitary requirements during the pandemic.

Lion 88

Very pricy for what it was and not that good. Only tasted like coriander and the other flavors were bland. The gordita was a bit soaked and not eatable without utensils. Staff looked like it was in a rush and not the nicest.

sabrina lu

Food tasted alright but the takeout presentation is bad enough to kill appetite. And no, I didn't order through third party, I ordered it myself at the place. It's probably authentic from what people say but it's not satisfying as an overall meal. Could've been acceptable if the place was just a street but it wasn't.

Elsa Chavez

They hace fast service, and a nice terrace. The tacos are ok. I got the tacos all pastor and they were ok. Their spacy sauce was ok it tasted a bit too much like salsa lizano, and i didnt like that fact that the pinaple was not grilled. But besides that is a good place and they have a big menu.

Dimident Inc

Such a wonderful experience, the food is authentic and the waiter Alvaro was very kind to our 2-family table (with kids). I recommend their Burrito del Rey and their Tacos al Pastor. We definitively will come back.

Yamine Mokhtari

Plates are delicious and quickly prepared. I always leave with a container of guac which I admit is a bit overpriced but so darn tasty.

Paola Karina Paez T.

Food is amazing! And the manager was very kind and helpful!

Sarah Clement

A lively and enjoyable place, part restaurant, part grocery store. Very animated, lots of Mexican specialties. The food is great and inexpensive. Large terrasse during the summer months. Great for breakfasts and brunches as well. One of the many treasures of the Jean Talon market area.

Sayeed Kizuk

Unfortunately, after a few visits over the years, I’ve come to conclude that Rey del Taco is overpriced and just not great. I come from San Diego, a taco mecca, so I have tend to set lower standards for MTL Mexican restaurants… but even then I still end up disappointed. A lot of freshness and spice is lacking in many dishes, cilantro/onion mixture can seem more than a day old, the sopa de tortilla was so salty (and came with like 5 chips total), no limes provided in a recent delivery order, tacos are really underwhelming in portion and taste. With more and more authentic Mexican places opening, and at better prices, I don’t think people will think this is a go-to place much longer.

mew mew

Some of the worst, saltiest food I've ever had. It's very hot in the summer and the inside seating area felt and looked dirty. I didn't want to eat here at all, but my friends did so I just sucked it up. I barely ate, and got food afterwards from the farmers market across the street. I also noticed, upon paying the bill, that some of their cheese for sale was growing mold. Would never recommend this place.

etrivard

Great mexican restaurant. Staffs are a little bit slow but the services is good and nice. They offer a large variety of meals and the portions are large. Price is okay.

Betty Verhaegen

Nice place. Food tastes pretty much exactly as the one you get in real Mexico. Some staff members are a bit rude and unhelpful though.

Miguel Díaz

Although the food is good sometimes, please stop using plastic containers for your guests eating in the restaurant. This is wasteful and unnecessary. Please buy some containers and wash them. I will update the review when this issue is resolved. Vegetarians beware, they really skimp on vegetarian portions for some reason. Also, 1 of the male staff members is super rude.

Cel

Pretty good. The sopes were pretty good. Beans were good. Also had the al pastor. Not great. Overly saucy, no trompo-roasted crunchy bits, or char-roasted pineapple. Tortillas were ok though. Habanero salsa was great. Service was friendly and fast. Restaurant was clean despite it being busy and having hugh turnover.

Max

Truly traditional Mexican food served in this little Restaurant located directly in front of Jean Talon’s Market ! Very convenient Generous portions and prices are decent. Don’t expect a fancy restaurant but you won’t be disappointed with their food. They also sell Mexican products and they have churros ???? by far the best churros I’ve tasted in Montreal ! Their ???? Tacos Al Pastor are awesome ???? Try as well their enchiladas. You can park inside the Market’s parking way cheaper.

Ardalan Sepehri

Love to eat here ! Real mexican food nice price and good service

Yana Helnikova

I went this morning for some pastry. First of all, let me tell you this place look creepy and old. We have to walk next to the bathroom to go to the cashier and that was a total turnoff as there was a strong disgusting smell even though the doors were closed!! I can't even imagine eating in there and having to endure that pugeant bathroom smell. They even have a table next to the bathroom and a couple was sit in there! Oh my, that's disgusting. Anyways, the churros were tiny, surely not fresh as they were hard rock and the stuffed dulce de leche taste like it was burnt. I came here for the reviews, but I think most of them are fake paid reviews. I can't imagine someone eating here. Ugh!

Andre Lima

The beef tongue in tacos needs to be chopped and not sliced. The total amount should be given before going to the cashier so that you can check for mistakes.

Alper Bac

Really good restaurant! The workers are very nice and welcoming. They have amazing food and it’s always clean would recommend!

Jetset 78

Best Mexican restaurant in Montreal! They offer a wide range of meals, all delicious and absolutely authentic! Great service, perfect to practice your Spanish! The interior with its flashy walls is quite bright, which makes it welcoming to families or groups of friends. The restaurant also has a terrace, accessible from Jean Talon market, if you are planning to shop there.

TheNoobCake85

Getting the beef plate that you assemble at home is a good experience. I would recommend getting the 30 option or larger because the 15 was perhaps a bit small. Vegetables was only onions and coriander but it was enough

roshni rai

Authentic Mexican Flavors, I generally dig their vegetarian dishes. Tasted the mexican hot chocolate for first time and bought some for home savors later. This is a must try if you are near Jean Talon Farmers market.

Keith Monaghan

Was good, but not as good as several other local Mexican options. Also quite pricey. Service and overall experience very good.

N M

Went there for Mexico's World Cup games. Had a great time, along with typical, well done mexican cuisine. Everything is in Spanish, but the staff makes it easy to work your way through the menu.

Arrachera ... So tasty ...

Unfnation

I’ve visited El Rey del Taco several times now. It’s been touted as the best Mexican food in Montreal. Honestly I have no qualms about that statement. El Rey del Taco is consistently delicious. The per pound meat taco special is great to share with friends. Otherwise, ordering a la carte is awesome as well. I recommend their sopes! The service is great as well. Also, make sure to try their horchata!

Moana Ladouceur

Very good authentic Mexican food. The barbacoa taco is one of the best I had so far. Can't wait to visit again to try other dishes.

Karen Carcenac

Food really good, decent prices... One of those amazing little Montréal restaurants you just have to know about.

Jer S

The tacos are simply amazing!! Could have a bit of bigger portion but taste is there! Love the tortilla soup. Love the fact that you actually buy authentic Mexican grocery items

Amanda H

So rude employees , they made a mistake with our order and werent willing to fix it. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE

Alexandre Levesque

Best tacos and Soupa de tortilla

ay ay

The best taco place. Good portion and price. Fresh and excellent customer service!

David Linard

Tasteless, boring food with choices of hot souce. This place has a "factory" attitude towards food. No matter what you order it has the same taste. Disappointing experience.

David cepeda

I don't know much about Mexican food, but I do know the food here is great. We come here every time we visit the Market. The guacamole is fantastic. And I like the Mexican products for sale in the grocery section. Strongly recommend.

Omer Idrees

Made me and my boyfriend sick. I do not recommend this place.

shabik ruseli

Good tacos. Although do not expect anywhere close to extraordinary. Terrace in the summer is nice as well. Service is good in general. Pricing is fast food pricing , so cheap. Big portions. Right in the heart of Jean Talon market. Loin d'être de tacos extraordinaires mais bon...ça passe. Y para los Mexicanos , hay muchos mejores sitios en Montreal para probar vuestra deliciosa comida.

Jorgelovelife2

Great Mexican Restaurent, the staff were super friendly, we loved the food and the ambience. There was nothing to complain about this place. Highly recommended!
