Simply amazing. Such a friendly staff and sophisticated dishes. Unbelievable.
Great food ! Amazing atmosphere!
Great food & great service!
Beautiful place. Lovely food. Friendly staff. Definitely stop over if you're in the Muskoka area...
Busy little spot but that's a good sign, the best places usually are! Fresh tasting food that was well with the wait. I didn’t want a drive through Burger, I was looking for a spot for a good meal and a break from travelling. I think my waitresses name was Jill, and watching her and her co-staff handle that pace was so impressive. Definitely be back!
Oh dear god... Leaving this restaurant I am full and happy. Every detail, from their infused vodka in the Cesar to the to-die-for beans and bacon was perfection. A quaint little place with ambiance and charm to boot!!
Thank You "R Cottage" for a delicious dinner. The cozy, rustic side room served us well with our couple friends, their son and our daughter, it was as if the 6 of us were being catered to in our own cottage dinning room. Chef Ian offered to take a family photo in the giant Muskoka Chair out front even though I am sure he was busy preparing for dinner service. I had the Ribs and they were fantastic and i even gave the poutine loaded potato a try. If you are in the Simcoe/Muskoka and you want great food drop in to "R Cottage".
Great sandwich great hospitality and a good price
This is a very lovely place inside. Decorated in Muskoka Old Cottages style. You feel home the moment you walk in. I had a grilled chicken with soop and salad. The soup was somewhat bland and the salad quite basic. The sandwich was a bit on the small side, but everthing was presented very nicely. Considering the location of this little restaurant, and the simplicity of the food, I found $15 for this lunch overpriced, and so are the other dishes. SEE photos of the menu, to judge for youself. Down the road, I can get a heaping plateful of Pathai for 12 bucks.
This place is AMAZING. Our waitress was absolutely wonderful AND funny. She gave us great recommendations and was very attentive. My boyfriend had the best beef dip sandwich he's ever had. I had the burger which was UNREAL. Their smores cheesecake is to die for. Easily the best meal we have had in a while. The inside was so cozy and comfortable with music playing. The bathroom very clean. 10/10 spot.
What a great little place to stop for a delicious lunch. Service was great even tho they were short staffed. Definitely a highlight of our road trip through the area.
The food was amazing! The neat loaf was a work of art and myvfrirndxresllyvenjoyed the ribbon sndxeing combo. They are passionate about the quality if food that is locally sourced not from frozen and slow cooked. We sat outside on a fall evening and enjoyed the wood-burning outdoor freestanding fireplace. The staff were cheerful and enthusiastic. Quite a nice surprise in the little village of Washsgo.
Food never tasted so good. Didn't need dinner.
The food we ordered was delicious, unique and flavourful. A place we'd all return to and try new things when the chance comes. We ordered 4 items off the menu. The smoked prime rib dip with the spud salad, the smoke duck breast on an arugula salad, the tandoori maple bacon & spiced apple grilled cheese with duck confit macaroni salad and the cottage club Sammy with duck confit macaroni salad. The smoked prime rib dip, a juicy and tender smoked prime rib, impactful flavour combinations on a bun with soft insides and a crunchy outer that held up to the jus. The spud salad was a flavourful unique potato salad. The smoked duck arugula salad was paired with a light vinaigrette dressing with caramelized pears, pickled red beats and goat cheese throughout. A delightful Muskoka classic. The tandoori maple bacon & spiced apple grilled cheese had lots every bites with crispy maple bacon, balanced blends of cheddar and brie with compliments of spiced apple in every bite. The bun was soft inside with a very nice crunch on the outside. The cottage club, while we felt the description was different than what was served - it was still very delicious, a juicy and moist rotisserie chicken complimented with a sauce combination that resembled a chicken salad and a club sandwich. The flavours did not disappoint and the freshness of the lettuce and tomato didn't take away from the chicken.
Cozy place with great food!
Absolutely amazing dining experience. Great hospitality in a cozy cottage setting.
Service was really slow (30 minutes to 45 just for food). We had the Mac and cheese and the special for the day which was a chicken wrap, salad and soup. Mac and cheese was ok, large portion but maybe lacking a bit or salt. The special was good. Unfortunately, the wait did not make it a pleasant experience.
Amazing restaurant!! Great Service
Absolutely fabulous food and service !! Thank you chef Taylor !
Such an amazing addition to our cottage commute, we've been driving through Washago for 30+ years and it's just so great to have them there. Chicken is awesome. Grilled cheese is so delicious and inventive. Best of all they are just great hard working people. Staff is friendly and helpful. Gets busy, but if you call ahead they are always accommodating.
Great meatloaf but the ribs were terrible
Amazing food! Very friendly and knowledgeable staff! And the decor is beautiful!! All around fantastic!
Always love going here it is a superb little restaurant with pleasant staff and great food.
Roast chicken is excellent. In fact better then their prime rib which is only offered on Sundays i believe. Staff is friendly and helpful
We stopped in for lunch on our was to go camping. When we left, we ordered 2 overpriced butter tarts that were undercooked, flimsy and greasy. Very disappointing. Kind of left me bitter. Tracy is a great waitress. Down to earth, funny and personable. Ordered the burger was tasty, ribber dip sandwich was ok but lacked seasoning or a spread, haddock slider special was tasty, chicken sandwich was tasty. The ceasar was tasty, the potato salad was ok, the kettle chips and dip were good. Overall was a nice little spot to stop in. Lunches each cost approx $15-$17 each. I'd go back but a bit more selective on choices now that I've tried a few things. 4 stars because there are no 1/2 stars.
Nicest restaurant in town! Great service, delicious food, and awesome ambience!
The staff is great, and the food is delicious!
Cute restaurant . My husband & me were very happy when we stay here.
Tried the Cottage for the first time... and just loved it. Incredible service and the food was amazing. We will be back for sure!
We drove and ate here today for my dad's 65th birthday. The atmosphere was cozy. Our waitress was lovely. The potato soup though was so salty we couldn't eat it and we asked for a hot water to add in the soup.
Great food, great staff. They could offer sparkling water options. Also there were a lot of flies where we were sitting.
What a gem!! Food to die for, service excellence and laid back, cozy atmosphere. A must try!
I happened to venture back to Washago and realized that R Cottage was there and so I went in for a meal. The meal was fantastic and delicious with the Muskoka lager beer and the side order of garlic pickles. My last time there was in July 2020 as we moved to Nova Scotia and the food, service, and hospitality was the same as a year ago but there seemed to be a better aroma as you walk through the door. It's an amazing place to dine and eat. Koodoos to the owners and staff.
Literally the best place I’ve ever gotten food from. The food tastes amazing and the prices are incredible! If I lived near by, I’d probably never eat anywhere else again. You couldn’t even get food this amazing for double the price. Love ittt
Delicious! The chicken and gravy is amazing. Had the spud salad and dirty rice as well...the flavours are 10/10 - would highly recommend!
Very cute decor, and really excellent food at a very reasonable price!
Stopped on the way through town for some lunch. Had an unreal rueben with house cured corned beef. They do alot of the smoking and curing in house. Recommend checking it out.
Stopped in on our mothers&daughters weekend for dinner on the patio! It was marvellous!! Service was delightful and charming. Big friendly and proud smiles welcomed us. The food was phenomenal!! We had the meatloaf - epic! The ribber dip- delicious! And the burger - surprisingly gourmet from this small restaurant! Overall it was a fantastic experience and I will absolutely make a point to return when driving along Simcoe Road 169 again!!! Highly recommend you stop here for a meal.
Amazing food, great patio, great service and got the food quickly! The Ruben sandwich was great, the salad was fresh and crisp ????????
Food very good, service wonderful
OMG where do I start ? we love R cottage restaurant , the people are amazing and the food is so delicious you can really taste the love they put into every bite I highly recommend the burgers and the sandwiches, the prime rib is amazing keep doing what you are doing is working great !
Great place great food only thing I would change is adding French fries to the menu but the kettle chips are pretty good. Staff is excellent too.
The best experience I've ha in Canada in five years, the food was ACTUALLY delicious and the staff was so friendly and witty. We went a year ago, and we promise to leave a good review, so here we are.
The best stop when heading north! Of course depending on how far north your heading this little place is an ideal stop about 1.5 hrs north of Toronto in the town of Washago. We discovered this place a few years back and we enjoyed it, but it was lost in time. Found the place again yesterday and it was as good as ever. A very cosy stop with reasonable pricing. The smoked prime ribber dip was awesome! The bread & the meat made a great combination.. Absolutely mouth watering ????
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at R cottage. Their portions are very generous, everything is fresh and delicious - I practically inhaled the Reuben sandy.
I have dinned at R cottage many times and have always had a great experience. I was particularly impressed with the ordering system to accommodate the safety measures for Covid. I ordered a family chicken and rib combination, which was delicious, great proportions and safe to pick up.
Delicious unique food choices, great atmosphere and Tracy knows her stuff !! Our guests loved it. Super cookin' Chef's Taylor & Brad
Amazing food, staff and decor! Had dinner and lunch and both were exceptional! Most things made in house. Great list of wine and micro beers too! The decor makes you feel like your already at the cottage and tons of boardgames to play with the family. Avoid the line at Webers and drive 8 more minutes to this gem in Wasago!
We ordered a take out meal tonight of chicken & ribs, the chicken was the only part of the meal I kinda enjoyed. The ribs were very, very chewy, the roasted wedge potatoes were too spicy & the gravy/dripping tastes weird!! The bbq sauce tastes awful.Too many different types of spices going on ,& the mac salad is spicy hot which they should let you know but didnt!!Dont think I'll be ordering from there again!! The first time we ordered the same dinner from there yrs ago was so much better & flavorful!! That is a shame,it must be because of the new management or chef???
What a sweet little find this place is.....had the best ribs I've ever tasted and a great atmosphere as well! A special added thanks to Jill for contributing to such a pleasant evening! Sorry its taken me a few weeks to write this but haven't stopped thinking about the experience. Be back soon!
Great small restaurant. Food is always delicious, I love the presentation of the food. Service is ok and prices are reasonable. I definitely recommend it.
I got the soup, salad and sandwich lunch plate. It was a delicious surprise. So good. Every one at my table was very happy with their meals. Great quality, and creativity. Serving size was perfect and service was great too.
This is a lovely restaraunt on the main street of Washago. There is a patio to enjoy or inside which is covid friendly. The food here is wonderful. Home cooking can not beat the flavour you will find here. The succulent meatloaf wrapped in bacon with cranberries & mushrooms sit high on a bed of garlic mashed potatoes & garnished with onions. The roast beef melts in your mouth and I can not begin to describe the wonderful desserts including butter tarts, apple pie, & cheese cake of different flavours. This little gem is a must visit if you are in the area & it is worth the drive to Washago.
Waited an hour for food to be told by the waitress that she forgot to put our order in. We left without eating. Very unfortunate experience.
Food is mediocre, limited options and annoying problems with wait times. Happy it is under new management would like to see a menu change for me to try again. The R burger is the only thing I really loved. Service is poor from servers.
Last year for my birthday ???? my boyfriend and I went cycling in Washago and stopped at this adorable restaurant for a patio dinner after our long day. The food was delicious and home style fresh. The service was incredible, our server had a great sense of humour and gave us excellent treatment. The chef came out to to see how we liked the food and got involved in our ongoing jokes of the evening. Great people, excellent food, and incredible service. When we go back to Washago, this will be one of our stops for sure!!!! We’ve been meaning to leave this review for a year, my apologies that it took us this long but we never forgot and the stop was one of our most memorable moments of the trip.
Great customer service and food! Will be eating there again.
Very good food many textures was not a fan of the potatoes salad. Trade mark is the Pickles . Not great value
The packaging isn’t awsome for the muscles. It’s very messy when packed like that.
Wow this little restaurant in the heart of Washago is top notch. The food is absolutely outstanding. A very small menu but it's made with locally sourced food and pure ingredients. The burger I had was huge and delicious and demolished half of it before even thinking of snapping a photo. At the neighbouring table they had ribs which were fall off the bone and bacon wrapped meatloaf, it looked so good. The warm and friendly staff make your dining experience very enjoyable. It's a cozy setting, very rustic. To top it all off, they sang me Happy Birthday and gave a piece of S'more's cheesecake. What a wonderful restaurant. We will be going back because seriously, those ribs and bacon wrapped meatloaf.
Delish food. Great portion.
R Cottage recently catered my wedding and they were absolutely excellent. The food was awesome, the service was wonderful, and they went above and beyond to help on the day of the wedding. Can't say enough about them!
Homey atmophere..great service ..awesome food
Ordered online the chicken/ribs combo . All was delicious and my absolute favorite side dish was the potato salad. Best I have ever had.
Yum!!!!!! We had quarter chicken, ribs, all the sides and Mac and cheese. We all loved it!
Friendly service, delicious food, reasonable prices.
I always enjoy eating at R, cottage, healthy home cooked food, and nice friendly service. On the patio down town Washago.
Love this cozy place. Food was great!!
We had R Cottage cater a 40th birthday for my wife this past weekend and it was fantastic!! The food was delicious, the staff were helpful and professional and they contributed to an all around incredible day. Highlights of the menu were definitely the Bison Burger, Potato Salad and Farmer’s Boards. Would definitely recommend them and use them again.
Had the beef dipper and duck confit. Both were amazing, try the duck confit and you will not be disappointed. Fiancé had the Mac and cheese and loved it. Thank you R Cottage.
