I haven’t had Latin food this good since I was staying with a family in Guatemala. The black bean soup was rich and hearty, the plantain in the patacon was delicious and the empeñadas were a generous portion, a crispy delight. Would highly recommend!

This place is by far my favourite place to go to for breakfast! I haven't tried anything other than a few breakfast sandwiches here, but it is so good that I will go out or my way to come here for food. If I could give more than 5* I would!

Best egg, bacon and cheese sandwich I’ve ever had. So flavourful and very filling. The staff were friendly and explained the menu to me thoroughly. Not to mention the food was so cheap!! Great value for your money, would 100% recommend for a quick bite.

The food is always great and the owner is always friendly and welcoming. I've been here a few times and around to a lot of Halifax's latin restaurants, and by far it's my top 3. There tacos are to die for the meat is always fresh and delicious. There Cuban Sandwiches a bit crunchy but over all a very amazing dish, and the little salad that was served with it so packed with flavor! I always struggle to find parking near by but if you turn left right after passing the restuarant there is a parking lot right in front of those lights. Parking was only $1.30 for the half hour ! Would highly recommend this place to anyone around Halifax waterfront in the mornings and afternoon ????????

Most underrated place to eat in Halifax hands down! The food is all made in-house and is fresh and authentic. The chef is super friendly and knowledgeable and makes a mean taco — I recommend going on a Tuesday when they have taco Tuesday specials, under $10, with housemade corn tortillas! Can't say enough good things!

I was really excited to try the arepas here after falling in love with them in Toronto. The arepas at Verano are pretty good-- both the pork and the bun was a little drier than I had hoped but the flavour was there.

The most genuine people, making the most genuine food. It is so unbelievably good, you can tell that the head chef loves what he does and loves to bring you his creations. How does this place not have a lineup outside of it at all hours? Though I’m glad it doesn’t, because that means I can enjoy a bite of the most authentic and delicious food anytime I want :) Everything on the menu is unreal. Prices are ????????

Undiscovered gem, clean, modern, comfy. Food and service were excellent (Personally preferred the beef arepa to the pork one but both great) Black bean soup was ???? This is the perfect spot for a downtown lunch or afternoon bite as it can be real quick.

This is a lovely place, a bit out of the way, but you should definitely make the trip here.. the food was absolutely phenomenal and they went out of the way to make sure that we were super happy with everything we got. it's so nice to see such an authentic restaurants in downtown Halifax. Definitely above & beyond on the quality level. Do yourself a favor, walk the extra half a block to get there, and enjoy your breakfast and lunch. It will be worth it most definitely.

When I first walked in I was a bit confused by the subway style set up but it is still a sit-down service restaurant, just order at the counter and have a seat. The service was great, the stuffed erapas were a delicious and the soup was great too! They have empinadas on occasion and in really looking forward to trying one. I'll definitely be coming back next time I am around!

My first time here! The day's special was braised pork empanadas. I have no regrets. They were crunchy and cheesy and amazing, it was a challenge to wait long enough to cook down before taking a bite. I really need to come back soon for brunch. The restaurant was nearly empty when I visited around 1:30, but I imagine it might get quite busy during the lunch rush with all the office towers nearby. If you need to grab takeout and run, you can order ahead on the Ritual app.

This restaurant is a little gem in downtown Halifax! The have a small menu but it's absolutely delicious. Very reasonable prices. They take your order, you pay and have a seat - they bring the meal to you and clean up when done. My second time at this restaurant and I'll be back. Pictured is the Greek chicken salad. Fresh and just the perfect amount of food.

Great restaurant with such a warm welcoming staff. The Empanadas are incredible!!! Mushroom, pork and beef. Had them all. Under $10 for 2! Grab a beer and relax. Fun music and smiling faces. During such times (pandemic) you wouldn’t know it relaxing and having lunch here.

Fantastic little spot on Hollis street with seating inside and a few tables outside. My wife had the breakfast sandwich and she enjoyed it. I had the Chilaquiles with 2 sunny side up eggs and it was so delicious. It was done perfectly as the tortillas were not soggy and the eggs perfectly cooked. It was a huge bowl and probably can feed 2 people. The service was excellent and very friendly. We would not hesitate to eat here again.

Went for burger week to try the chicken option of La Morena after scoping it out online. Not only did it look just as appetizing as it did in pictures, it was the best chicken burger I have EVER had by far! The atmosphere was welcoming, the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating, and we were not waiting long for our food. This place is the definition of a hidden gem and I would highly recommend checking it out.

In short: everything on the menu is amazing. I have had almost everything on the menu now and it is all incredible. My favourites: beef arepa, chicken patacon and the chilaquiles. All of the empanadas are great- especially the mushroom (and I do not like mushrooms at all). It is my favourite restaurant in Halifax hands down. I should also mention that the owners and staff are such a delight. As of September 13/21 they will have expanded operating hours so if you can’t get downtown on a workday go on Saturday. I promise you will not be sorry.

What an awesome burger. The right amount of spice and sweet. Beautifully cooked pork patty, avacado and pineapple. We walked in just after close, but they were very welcoming and made us a burger anyways. This place is a hidden gem and you should check it out for a great downtown lunch.

Went for Halifax Burger Week 2020. Had the La Morena Burger with chicken. The best chicken burger I have ever had. So good that we all got a second burger right then and there. Staff was very friendly, the restaurant was comfortable and clean, and did I mention how good the food was? Will definitely be back to try their Tacos as I have read good things online. If you are reading this review, then you are trying to decide if you should go, and the answer is yes, you should go, right now :)

Finally got a chance to try Verano and I am really impressed! The food was quality, well prepared and delicious. Very reasonably priced for a downtown eatery. The staff were all extremely helpful and polite. I don’t usually leave reviews but I was really happy with my experience at Verano. Will definitely be back again soon.

I had an order of Onion Soup and Spanish Wrap today and absolutely enjoyed it until the very last bite. The food was fresh, flavorful and very well presented as well as affordable. People who served us were kind and friendly. The only issue for me is the air ventilation system inside. I don’t like when I walk out of a restaurant and find that my clothes, hair smell like the food. I will definetely keep going there but for take-out only!

If you haven't tried Verano, you should. Mexican and Venezualan food at its best. This is not your ordinary mexican 'style' food you find in bigger restaurants, this is the real deal. The braised pork or beef arepas are delicious and well worth trying as are the epanadas. I have not met anyone who has not enjoyed a trip here.
