My spouse and I popped in for a bite to eat in the early afternoon on a Saturday. We were able to secure a seat and ordered a salad. It was delicious and filling. It's a small and cozy bistro with great classic retro tunes serenading your meal. The servers were friendly and attentive. I have heard about their burgers and plan to go back and eventually try the peanut butter burger.

Went here for burger week. Called in advance to see if we could do takeout and was told that the $6 special was dine-in only. That was fine so I asked how long the wait to get inside was (I know Burger Week is a busy time). They told me 10-15 minutes on the phone. We ended up waiting about 30 minutes to get a table for 3. I was still fine and understood. We got service quickly and ordered our burgers and a beer. The food was delicious and I would recommend the peanut butter burger to anyone but then this happened. Before I'm even finished my beer, the waitress brings us the bills. So we pay, chat a bit and finish our beers. Then within 5 minutes after we've paid, a different waitress comes to our table and says, "Just so you know, we have a REALLY long line out there". I know, lady. We waited in it. We've been in the restaurant for less time than we waited to get in. And it's pretty bold of you to say that after we've paid and the waitress got her tip. We were effectively kicked out of the restaurant because they had already received their money. Never going again. We left pretty angry and as we did, noticed that the line was actually significantly shorter than it was when we had arrived. I'm still livid.

I've never had a bad meal here, used to always dine in pre-pandemic, and my girlfriend and I still order pickup on the regular. Can't go wrong with a peanut butter burger and Darrel fries. (Get cranberry sauce on the burger too, you won't regret it)

Let's put it this way, after spending a month in the hospital for cancer treatments, the FIRST thing I did after getting out, was order the peanut butter burger from Darrell's with a side of Darrell's fries. Been here many times and loved everything I've ever ordered. Great selection of food, always delicious and fresh, friendly staff, great prices and a cozy atmosphere, a great dining experience for all.

The food at Darrell's is prepared fast and hits the spot. Most of the tables are outfitted with comfortable booths, giving the restaurant that classic diner feel. The servers are friendly. Cooks are smiling and laughing. Their "award-winning" burgers can be made vegan, with delicious plant-based patties. It's the best place in Halifax for burgers, fries and milkshakes.

They have good milkshakes and wraps. It can get pretty noisy and the booths are close together. The tables are small. It has a diner-like feel. I like the chalk board and the pictures on it. The food is a little expensive but it's worth it.

Darrell's has became a regular go-to restaurant since first moving out here. Highly recommend as they do have a veggie-pattie option and much more to choose from. Servers and hosts are very friendly, even when ordering over the phone. Kitchen looks clean and chefs dont look like they hate being there. Sucks when it gets busy, but its also great to see other people from all over enjoying a meal and a sit down with family/friends. Wait times are not to crazy, and if they are...order out, they are very quick in the back with orders. Always great energy when you go back and they remember you or recognize your face. Thank you for your great service the past 4 years of university.

We wanted to check out this place because of the great reviews. We found the burger patties too dry. The sunnyside up egg atop the hen den was not cooked properly. The white was liquid and it ran into the plate in liquid mess making the burger rather slippery. The veggie burger is super tasty. The service was outstanding. Our waitress was really attentive and efficient. I recommend the potato wedges as they were nicely cooked and tasty. The regular fries were not anywhere as good.

Another Halifax institution, this one famous for its burgers and shakes, most notably the peanut butter burger. Figured I'd come in for the first time in years. Great staff, great service, swift preparation, and nice accomodation. The menu is robust considering its fare. Burgers are great, about on par with Cheese Curds or any other gourmet burger joint, but not the best around (nothing will beat the Mic Mac burger in my opinion, that homemade patty). The exotic trimmings of the burgers are for a fairly distinguished burger eater. I had their barnyard-style burger, a sort of hot mess of fried egg, guacamole, bacon, etc, and it was great, but I couldn't help but think it was some stoner's late night concoction. My nephew's PB burger was spot-on, and my mother's mushroom Swiss was a more mellowed flavor, quite nice. The Darrell's spiced wedges are quite good, but I can't help but think the recipe has been made more mild over the years, or something had been changed. The biggest winner is the staff and the atmosphere. Really, you owe it to yourself to go.

One of my favourite burger places in Halifax. Great Milkshakes. Plenty of parking as well behind in the Sobey's lot. There are two levels of seating. This place can be a bit of a wait, so don't go in a rush. They are incredibly skimpy on their jalapenos.

Amazing restaurant with an incredible staff. Everyone working here was so friendly and professional. The food was absolutely phenomenal! We ordered the peanut butter burgers and shakes (I would recommend the vanilla over the chocolate, but both flavours are amazing!) The burger was deliciously well cooked and the peanut butter gave it an amazing twist. Definitely recommend!

Was immediately greeted upon entering. Seated and quickly served. Service was nice and full of smiles. Was very busy but still service was fantastic and we did not have to wait. Our server noted when our glasses were almost empty and was there to full them up with out bus having to call for her attention. Again...this was when they were busy. Fantastic. Food was delicious. Prices are reasonable / fair. When we left....as we were kn our way out through the door...we were again greeted by the bar staff across the room downstairs who called to us to say thank you and have a great day. They made our visit feel important to them. Thank you. Cannot wait to return.

My husband and I love this local watering hole! The ‘Turkey Burger’ is out of this world and I have never tasted anything like it. Mikey absolutely loves the ’Snake Bites’ because they are actually spicy and they offer two fry options with meals. Prices for food and drinks are both on par with similar style resto’s in Halifax. We always sit at the countertop bar so we can hang with our fave servers John and Thalia who are some of the best customer services providers in the city! John makes a solid Caesar. One star is being deducted because sometimes we just want a snack burger but they refuse to sell a kids burger to an adult. My logic is look we come here on the regular (2-4 times/week) spend $40-$80 a visit, never tip less than 18%. So, listen to your customers and just make us happy!

Visited Darrell's in September 2018. We saw them in a YouTube video and decided we had to make it a stop on our trip. So flying from Milwaukee we made a point to find this gem. We were not disappointed. Being Mid westerners, we have eaten a lot of burgers, but their peanut butter burger has to be one of the BEST we have ever experienced. The Darrell fries with gravy are another MUST DO. It was well worth the effort.... would do it again if we are ever back in Halifax.

My second visit to "My Other Brother Darrell's Restaurant", aka: Darrell's. (Didn't catch that on the first visit.) Last time was lunch but today I went for an early dinner and went all-out. For a starter I had the Spinach and Artichoke dip which was out of this world. The pita chips were homemade, nothing like what you would get out of a bag at the superstore. Secondly, was the BLTCM burger, short for Bacon, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Cheddar, Mayo. Awesome good burger cooked to perfection with a side salad in lieu of fries. I tend to enjoy the downstairs bar area which is where I ate today for the second time. Very cozy, the entrance to the bar is at the rear of the building off of the Sobey's parking lot. Staff in the bar area are very friendly and welcoming. Will be coming back on my next visit. At the time of this review they are offering a 15% off if you send them a text (See their website). Didn't work on my phone but I showed the where I had tried and was given the discount although the text did not go through.

Service ruined the experience . Food was great . Regretting my already low tip of 10% . Rather heavyset balding guy was the waiter . He was very inattentive. Definitely recommend visiting! I grabbed the peanut butter burger and it was fantastic. Kind of a weird mix when you think about it, but it works out really well with the flavors. Everything is pretty pricy, but for the kind of food you get I think that it's worth it.

Grabbed a peanut butter burger and Darrell fries that were served quickly, hot and tasty. Definitely something to try but I prefer my burger straight up. It was a busy Friday at lunchtime and only a short wait for a table. There was a lot of staff making things flow smoothly and my server was very friendly and helpful. There's a nice neighborhood inclusive vibe and with all the chatter upstairs, no music playing seemed to be a good thing.

Ah, an old favorite of mine from like 20+ years ago. I had my usual, Bermuda steak em and corn chowder. My wife had the Darrell's fries and a chicken wrap. Everything was delicious and service was good. I was surprised that it wasn't that busy, but we did arrive early. By the time we left, it was filling up. You won't regret it of you go.

Amazing burgers tha taste homemade. Terrific variety of different style burgers ( I have to try the peanut butter or the Hawaiian next time) . Lot of other choices including vegetarian fair too. The Darrell fries look like standard wedge grows but they are not, you owe it to yourself to try them. Service was excellent on a very busy night. There is an inside section but the outside deck puts you in great vantage point to take in the downtown vibe and lovely buildings in the area. This place is an unexpected find and worth coming back to.

Darrell's Restaurant is a great place to go with family or friends to get a meal. The atmosphere is light, and the staff are friendly. It's very popular, so expect a bit of a wait for a table if you have a larger group. If you haven't been, you have to try the Peanut Butter Burger. Darrell's is famous for it! My go-to meal there is the Peanut Butter Burger with Darrell fries, and a Peanut Butter-Vanilla milkshake. It's very filling, but very delicious.

Great food. Great service. Great price. Darrell's signature fries were perfect. Perfect wedges of crispy delicious coating filled with perfectly cooked yummy potato. Wow, very impressed. I had their classic cheeseburger, great bun, a big juicy top quality beef patty cooked and seasoned perfectly, condiments balanced perfectly. I try not to use the word perfectly too often in a review as it might seem over the top, but i use it here because that was my experience. This was my first time eating here and it was great, the food was so delicious and i was so happy that my companion who recommended we eat here was also happy her recommendation was a hit. The entire front and back team was gracious and love making and serving delicious food. It is important to note the restaurant was very clean and made every effort to ensure our safety. I will return many times. Eating great comfort food reminds us how chain production food simply can't compete, it has no heart. Darrell's heart is big.

I eat here everytime I'm in Halifax, and I have no intention of stopping this tradition. Peanut butter burger is fantastic! Can't get a better burger anywhere. I hear other menu items are great s well, but when the burger is that good, it is hard to order anything else. There seems to be a good vegetarian burger as well. Get a milkshake of you want. I'm sure you can't go wrong.

The burger did not taste the same it used to be and the fries tasted old. It was not the experience I was looking forward to. Maybe my expectations were too high for Darrell's given the multitude of burger awards, but I found my peanut butter burger today just... Really good? I think I was expecting mind blowing? That's fine, though - I'll keep trying burgers, because I'll definitely be going back. The service was excellent, the prices were pretty good, and I loved the atmosphere. It was also a good spot to go with kids, as the kids menu/food was good quality and price. They might not be able to accommodate high chairs, though, so that'd be worth asking ahead of time. Despite being quite busy today at lunch with pickup/delivery orders, our food came fairly quickly and fresh. Not sure such a well-established spot needs my recommendation, but I'd suggest putting it on your list!

Had the mushroom burger and the Darrell's potato wedges, this is not a fast food burger....it was on a large nice fresh bun, good patty size and well presented. Taters we very nicely seasoned. Very friendly staff that I dealt with. Would recommend if you want burgers and your typical fast food chain wont cut it for your craving. I will be trying other burgers and poutines!

Amazing experience! Ordered the nachos and sampler platter... Way, way too much food for two people! We got extra cheese on the nachos and it was TOO much cheese. We said to the waitress we probably wouldn't get extra cheese next time because there was so much it didn't cook/melt all the way through and she told us if you don't get extra cheese then there isn't enough cheese.... Something to keep in mind! Overall very impressed especially with the high quality of the appetizers. Unique, delicious, served VERY hot!! Was really impressed ????

The food is classic diner food with little creative twists to make it a bit special. Staff was friendly and service was timely, we were there for about an hour, and had a great dinner. It was very busy but staff were able to get us a table after only a few minutes waiting so I'm impressed. It was also clean. Very cool vibe. In the times I've been there since my first review the quick service, polite staff and yummy food has been consistent with that first time.

Recently went here for burger week. The burger was BIG and AMAZING! Darrell's beer is pretty good too. However, our waitress was kind of rude. She rushed us out because "there's a long line outside" yet we nearly chugged our drinks and inhaled our burgers attempting to be quick. When we got back outside, the line was half as long as it had been when we got there. I understand running a business but we never noticed them rushing anyone else out.. doesn't seem right.

My first time at darrells although I heard a lot of great things. Ate for lunch time and didn’t need to wait long for a table. Huge dividers to section tables off which felt nice and safe. Ordered the blt lunch combo and really enjoyed. Darrell Fries were 10/10. Had a cider with it and that was great too. Would definitely return.

Like diners? Like burgers? Come here! After hearing enough favorable reviews from friends, I decided to put their reputation on the line for a Friday dinner out. Well worth it: the burgers are juicy, saucy and tasty on fresh Kaiser buns. The Darrell's fries (wedges) are crispy and tasty as well. Need a milkshake? They have those in all its ice cream goodness. Need a beer? They can pour you a draft. Need to watch sports? There's a few TVs tuned into whatever's on. All-in-all, it's a good spot for a good burger.

The potato skins were amazing. I also got the Moroccan lamb burger which was really good. The server was super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I just went back and got a regular burger for the first time. The burger was good but the patty itself was ok. There are much better burger places in the area. Specifically I would recommend Ace Burger. Overall I will definitely eat here again, just know you are not getting a top notch burger patty.

Nothing beats a hen den burger. My favourite burger in Halifax! The service here is excellent as well. I ordered take out the other night and when I arrived back at home I realized I had forgotten my wallet. I called back and the girl said it was there and she was leaving work soon so she would drop it off at my place! This was amazing especially since they were about to close and if I had ran back my burger would've been cold. As if this wasn't enough, she had already found me on FB and sent me a message that my wallet was there before I had even known I had left it there. Talk about going the extra mile! I have always loved this restaurant. It is close by, and I go quite often. I had been craving a mushroom burger. Yesterday was my covid birthday, so I ordered one with a salad. I assumed the salad would come in a separate container, and planned to save it for later. I placed my order at 5:32 and the system said it would be ready @ 6:17. That seemed long, so I went to pick it up at 6. It was ready at 6, but had been waiting long enough for the burger to be almost cold. The salad, in the same container, had wilted. I ate the burger, which wasn't that great tasting. It actually made me a bit sick (I won't go into details). The salad I threw out. I don't want to post this publicly, but there is no other way. This order was not up to standard. Sorry.

My favourite burger place ever! Before you go, make sure to check the website for daily specials. My favourite is the Buy One Get One Free on Mondays! I went with my boyfriend for date night and accidentally chose a burger that was not part of the promotion, so we ended up having to pay full price but it was still a lot of fun and very delicious! I mean, who doesn't like eating a messy burger and having dirty fingers on date night? Make sure you try the peanut butter burger and the milk shakes!

Great great food here. You will miss that signature thick fries in your whole life if you go there once but... unfortunately I didn't feel good about the crowd. They look at strangers so badly and mean which made me feel like to leave the place once I finished my burger. The chef is awesome and so the servers are. I highly recommend Darrell's if you are a burger lover, no matter what type. Edit: After 6 months again, you miss the fries you lose a life. Never leave here without gobbling the Swiss Rocket!

Little effort in the kitchen to make anything on the menu worth ordering - just seems like a lot of deep fried frozen food and burgers. Even the salads, and we tried three different ones, were lackluster. If I lived locally, I would never eat here.

I've been going here for six years. Lovely staff. Great food. But today I forgot my mask at home, they had run out of masks (and suggested I go to Sobeys next door and buy one. Why didn't you send a server over to buy a box when you ran out??) And when I said I'd eat on the patio which was completely empty (and if you know this place then you know I was already standing on the patio having this convo with the server, you DON'T have to walk through the establishment to get to it) she said no. I could not sit at the table two steps away from me because I did not have a mask for the 2.5 seconds it would take me to get to and leave that table. Will never be returning.

It was suggested to me to go to Darrells and try the peanut butter hamburger...i thought perhaps the meat patty would be made with peanut butter...but disappointly not!! Ihad to go in search of the peanut butter It appeared to be just a cheese burger with a scrapping of peanut butter on one side of the bread roll covered with lettuce. Felt ripped off and disappointed all rolled into one. The atmosphere nothing special. I feel all this could be brought at any hamburger joint..and certainly not worth the money i spent..$20 canadian. My suggestion is i would not be suggestibg anyone race iff ti Darrells but rather find a hamburger place you like and get them to make yoyr peanutbutter hamburger. Over rated and over priced...
