I will forever cater and order from this place! The food is to die for and so, so yummy! I called last minute for catering, but they were booked out all day so they suggested I call the restaurant. I call the restaurant and Peter was super helpful in helping me decide the lunch for our corporate office. A variety of beef, turkey, tuna, gluten-free and vegetarian options were a total HIT! My co-worker recommended we order from here and I would recommend any event, lunch-in, or anything really, to order from here! Can't wait to throw another event with their food! :) Thank you so much!

The waitresses were not wearing masks when I was there (back in June) so it wasn’t a very comfortable dining experience. The food was great though. Featuring Grumans Reuben (smoked meat, sauerkraut, Swiss chips, Russian dressing, grilled caraway rye) + Verenikes . . Gotta appreciate how juicy the smoked meat was! The rye was grilled just enough to add the perfect amount of crispness to the sandwich. I chose verenikes as my side and it was delicious with sautéed onion and sour cream! I would probably do takeouts/deliveries until I figure out how to eat with a mask on though (as their staff didn’t wear masks and I personally wasn’t as comfortable with that yet. They did try to keep the distance)

Best kept secret brunch spot in Calgary! I almost do not want to review because I want to keep Gruman's all to myself and my hubby for brunch on Saturdays! If you haven't already tried Gruman's, they have the best potato latke's ever tasted, and the people than run this joint are so authentic and down to earth too! You feel like family, walking into Gruman's.

Ordered on Door Dash, waited over an hour to have my order cancelled as "the store is now closed". It's happened twice at this location, and is incredibly frustrating. If there are not enough resources to support delivery, then it shouldn't be an option.

In the end, of course, yes it does. The ratio at Grumans is too little meat and too much bread and the answer for their sandwich is NO

I used to come here for lunch when I worked across the street. I would always get the grilled special with a side of potato salad. The grilled special has kosher salami and smoked meat. Good kosher salami is very hard to find in Calgary. I used to eat it growing up, so this sandwich reminds me of my childhood. The potato salad is so good too. They also have Hebrew National hot dogs that they serve on a high quality hot dog bun that they turn into garlic bread. It’s such a good idea! My son and nieces love eating here. The servers and owner are really good with kids, so this is a good family restaurant.

I have been there a dozen times and have always had spectacular service and food. My favorite menu item is the blackened salmon. I realize this may sound odd in a smoked meat place but it's so juicy and perfectly cooked that's it's impossible to resist. You gotta eat here.

Popped in for the first time today to grab a bagel w/ cream cheese and lox on a Saturday morning. The food was basically 'as expected', but service was a bit slow - managed to read through an entire Metro, and parts of two other magazines before the bagel order was made. Would go back but not a place I felt compelled to tell others to check out.

If you are looking to get your deli fix, look no further than Grumans! A great selections of meats, sandwiches, deli sides (the kosher pickle is a fav), and breakfast options. Super friendly staff and management. Satisfying my Reuben craving, this place hit the spot! Loaded with juicy corned beef, kraut, melted cheese, and dressing. This is a fabulous deli located in the beltline. They currently have a special where you can get a Montreal smoked meat sandwich, a pickle spear and a beer for twenty dollars. Definitely reminds me of the food in Montreal. Come early during the workweek as there is limited seating and bigger groups may be hard to accommodate. A must try if you are in the area.

This restaurant is an absolute gem located in Calgary's Belt-line. The restaurant decor is pleasantly rustic and very well maintained. The food is of superior quality with choice robust coffee. Service staff are very friendly providing notable customer attention. Food is always prepared with fresh ingredients and is absolutely delicious at a very reasonable price; value to price is exceptional.

Authentic Deli food, If you love Montreal style smoked meat then its a great place. I even love the hot dogs and the cole slaw. It gets pretty busy around lunch time and its not fast food prices so be warned but you will enjoy yourself.

Maybe I'm just too picky, but I'm a Montrealer and the smoked meat here is nothing like what I'm used to. The meat in the sandwich had the consistency of sliced bologna, it wasn't fibrous and falling apart like traditional Montreal smoked meat. That doesn't mean it's wrong, it's just not my style. Meanwhile the lady at the next table was thoroughly enjoying the hot dog, which looked grilled. Shoulda got that I guess.

Had an amazing sandwich in here, probably one of my favorite sandwiches I have ever had. The place has a nice family vibe that feels cozy and welcoming. Very friendly waitstaff that will help you with the menu or recommend something amazing (my waitress recommended the sandwich I had, trusted her and it paid off). I highly recommend anyone in Calgary who likes food come by and try this restaurant.

I'm only giving a 3 star for the food and deducting 2 for the service. The person taking my order didn't seem to be all that excited that I was there considering I was a 5 foot 5 black girl dressed in purple sweatpants and a sweater because I had just left for lunch from First Aid training nearby. She was impatient and didn't provide much help at all considering I didn't really fit the crowd and it was obvious it was my first time there and I felt uncomfortable saying the stuff from the menu, but she made no effort to make me feel welcome. It was the closest place to eat and I was in a rush, I didn't realize the menu for take out was so limited, but felt bad walking in and out so quickly so I ordered rolls excited to try Jewish food. But I was unware that they would microwave them leaving them soggy and then literally stuff the food in a paper bag ripping the top and wrinkling it then hand it to me without even looking at me and serving the white woman in front of me. The place definetly seems to have regulars, but because of their unwelcoming and basically borderline offensive service I won't be one of them. Next time I'll walk a bit further.

Missed the turn-off for another place so we decided to stop here. My BFF had only gone for lunch and loved it so first time here for breakfast and my first time ever. The owner, Peter, even stopped in and said hi as my BFF is a regular. I ordered the breakfast burger and a steak salad to go. The fact that the server said that he'd get the kitchen to chill the steak so it won't cook the salad was great. Food was decent but well priced for quality and portion size is huge. Service is what set it apart, though. I rarely ever comment on restrooms, but tge ladies room here was very nice and super clean, too. I'll for sure be back.

As always the food is amazing. I took my son today which was his first time. The portion sizes are large so the price is spot on. It's higher priced but you really get what you pay for. Except for the gravy. I can not believe you are charging $2.00 for a side gravy which was super small and didn't last for all my fries. Disappointed to say the least.

Lived 2 blocks away for the last one and a half years before making my way in the door. Wish I had gone sooner. I had a great breakfast (no wait) consisting of a smoked meat benny and a poutine. Coffee was a bit weak, but the food made up for it. Super tasty. Also, free parking in the lot on weekends.

Food was great, the manager was jovial and we had a laugh when he almost dropped us another table's samples. However, what little service we recieved was awkward and slow. I'm knocking off most of these stars because we ordered Innis&Gunn, which ended up being out of stock so we got Kronenberg instead. We asked for the bill as we had to get to a meeting and the server had accidentally billed us for the more expensive Innis&Gunn instead. When she finally came back around to take the payment, I pointed out the discrepancy and she told me "Oh, don't worry about it, the price is almost the same". I'm not a frugal spender, so it's the principle of the issue that really irritated me. We were already late for our meeting from the long wait for the bill so I didn't argue further, but made up the difference in my tip and I will not be coming back here again. I don't understand, did you expect me to leave happy or give you a decent tip because you were too lazy to charge me properly?

Very pleased with this place, old school traditional Jewish style deli with a welcoming diner atmosphere. I had the Montreal Smoked meat - wow, incredible. Placed in Victoria Park neighbourhood, the location is perfect. Only open until three PM which is a terrible shame ! So good, will be returning soon.

I've tried a few different menu items from this place over the past few months. So far, I have not been disappointed. Everything is so tasty. My current favorite is the Rueben with potato salad. Sweet mother is it good. The takeout service is great. I have yet to actually sit down for a meal. I rarely wait longer than 5-10 mins. Only one time did I wait longer, and that was someone else taking my order and I had to wait for another. I was compensated to my satisfaction though. So it worked out. I suppose my only complaint is that the pricing is a little bit steep for what you get, and the deli type foods they are pushing. However, it's close to on par with most of the downtown pricing for similar.

Went here for lunch. Ordered the classic Montréal smoked meat sandwich. It was a very good sandwich. Nice rye bread, classic mustard, and a chunk of thinly slices meat. Not as good as Schwartz smoked meat in Montréal but definitely will be back. The restaurant and lavatories are clean. The owner was pleasant to talk too. It had a Montréal Atwater vibe so I felt I was back in my old city.

I ordered the smoked breast of turkey sandwich which comes on foccacia bread filled with maple smoked bacon (yum!), lettuce, lettuce, tomato, pesto aioli and red onion. It was delicious. Perfect ratio of sandwich filling to bread and the right amount of sauce. Fries were crispy and salty with skins on. The little scoop of pickled salad on the side was delicious but I wished it was in a cup. The vinegar ran straight across the plate into my bottom piece of bread, making it soggy and unpleasant. My friend had the chicken club. Again, the bread was tasty with the right amount of filling. I disliked the caramelized onion aioli because it tasted like olives (not a vegetable I like). The staff were great; prompt and friendly. As we came out of the (clean) bathrooms, a server didn't see my two-year-old, tripped over him and they both went flying. I was impressed that not only the server apologized but the manager also came over to make sure he was okay.

When they say "best reuben in the city", they're not lying. It was AMAZING. I got the chips at the recommendation of our server and I'm telling you now too, get the chips. We were there for the first time just a couple of weeks after they extended their hours so the owner/manager maybe? came to talk to us and was really friendly. I'll absolutely go back.

Over the course of the last few weeks, I used Grumans for a film production in prep, needing to feed more than a hundred people everyday and I can truthfully say not a single salad dressing or even cutlery was ever forgotten. When it came to placing orders, Judy was an absolute delight to work with and ensured that every order was perfect. Always delicious! They have great food for decent prices and items you won’t find many other places in Calgary! Usually no wait for a table, even though there is a constant flow of traffic. Make sure you try the kosher pickles, you will not be disappointed. My fav item is breakfast Poutine, as well as potato latke Benedict!

What a great place! Packed, loud, good service and excellent food. I had the breakfast burger and it was so tasty. Side of slaw, potato salad was nicely seasoned and the fried pickle was the perfect finish. I was intrigued by their chicken liver pate so took a small tub and a rueben pastry roll home with me from their handy take out counter. Definitely terrible on the parking situation, but being downtown, it's not surprising. They make every effort to let their patrons know not to park in their lot or they'll be towed. They even have it listed on their menu as soon as you open it. The walls, decor and atmosphere are a nice touch to make you feel that you're in an authentic place that cares about what they're serving you. Worth the trek into the concrete abyss.

This is an excellent Deli. I went for breakfast on a Sunday and the food was great, the service was prompt and it was easy enough to find a seat. The customer traffic turns over frequently enough that you can get it fairly promptly without having to wait. Parking is not the greatest (unless you go on a weekend) and they are only open till about 330 in the afternoon. I'd go back again and would bring a few more friends with me.

This place is a little gem that my son turned me on to. The food is great, the wait staff are pleasant and the decor is fitting. The food came promptly and was hot. My wife and I split a sandwich and they plated it for us which was unexpected. We had the Reuben sandwich which was done perfectly French fries were really good as well. I highly recommend this place. Only downside is that the parking is a challenge. I'm going to try another location next time.

Today I made a quick stop to Gruman's downtown location to pick up lunch. I ordered the Chicken Brest Club which comes with chargrilled herb chicken, applewood smoked chedder, bacon, tomato, lettuce and onion. On the side I tried the famous Montreal smoked meat poutine. All I can say is...Gruman's food is amazing! You can just tell all the ingredients are fresh and seasoned to perfection. I honestly can't wait to order this again...and again...and again. Gruman's atmosphere is great and the staff are really friendly...I loved the smiley face on my takeout bag and the surprised treat inside. If you're reading this, take my advice and head down to Gruman's for an amazing meal.

Food in Grumans is mostly Non-Jewish. In fact it looks like a regular New York fast food inside. Considering brisket that is served only on Fridays, everything else is either a sandwich with Montreal Beef and fries or frozen food like knyshes. Ordered a shepherd's pie that was badly done and over salted, had to return it back. Pity that Calgary has no real Jewish place with the real Jewish food.

They ran out of food at our company event. Their kitchen is only three blocks from our office and they kept telling us that more food would arrive but it never did. Rule number one when you are catering an event is “have enough food”. Not a lot of faith in them if they can’t get that right.

I love going to Grumans. I used to work just around the corner from it and for almost 6 months just walked by without even considering going into the place. Recently we had a going away lunch for a co-worker there and I immediately regretted not coming there earlier. Service was excellent and the food was fantastic! I'm a celiac so I was worried about being able to eat there but there were plenty of options (almost everything could be modified). I would recommend Grumans to everyone!

Twice have I had to the pleasure of experiencing Gruman's deli. With the first being a little let down, the smoked meat was good, but a little TOO greasy for my liking. I have to say for someone who has spent time visiting Montreal, it is a difficult task to really hit smoked meat perfectly, but its a good effort. On the other note, they have a chicken sandwich there that is to die for. Eat in, take the time and enjoy it for lunch with a side of fries. Its perfection.

Grandfather and Great Grandfather were deli guys as was i ,a long time ago... so im a hard critic..knish was tiny not much flavor, latke was meh hash brown not cooked in schmaltz ..got a better bagel at Safeway..lox was sliced thin as it should be..ill go back to try this Montreal smoked meat as thats not a thing in the states ,server was nice,place was clean..no whitefish salad or baked salmon and weren't aware such things existed..no pastrami..
