From my experience this is a place that you cannot trust with your credit card number. They required a deposit that was never returned and even three months later you may receive some extra unauthorised charges show up on your card with absolutely no explanation.

Great place to rent a car 3 star for the girls who work there and make it a great experience to rent. The 2 star - is brcause of chris Dumont customer rep has no people skills i ran into him and very rude and not helpfull no smile and lets just put it this way if i was to rent from there again i will never go to him. I rented a car from them for a day the car was clean and ready to go. The staff was incredibly friendly, professional and very helpful. After hearing the horror stories from people I had some concerns while returning the car. But the dropping off of the car was also super convenient. Overall I can say that there is Good, friendly business. And I would definitely rent again from them.

DANGEROUS:Rented me a car with bald tires. Had a flat tire after driving 2 blocks from location and I left it parked and put the spare on.They asked me to front the bill and if it was determined not my fault they would pay me back. The manager hung up while I was on the phone with him and a tire specialist exclaiming the tires were bald and dangerous (the night before a decent snowfall). Ended up getting a replacement car. Found hair elastics with wads of hair on it in the glove box, muffin crumbs in the cup holder and the previous renters information (address/billing etc.) also in the glove box. The only reason I stuck with them for the 7 days I had the car was because ICBC was fronting the bill while my car was being repaired. At no point I was offered an apology even after the manager made me cry because he was yelling at me (for apparently lying about bald tires *pictures attached* ) ALSO:they returned my deposit to ICBC even though I paid it and it took 4 phone calls and 3 visits to recover the money they owed me (just over a month to get back deposit). DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION ????

Icbc told them they would pay. Had a glitch and they said they wouldnt pay. Before calling me to sort it out the scrambled to take a payment asap and screwed up my credit card. Dont you think they should have called me first. I called the adjuster and she had t sorted out. Also they charged ICBC an extra day ( i returned a day early) because they are scammers like that. I told them flat out I would not pay an extra day for the upgrade. Scammers.

I have rented many times from here. Quick service and vehicles clean. Same message to all rental companies: Clean inside of windshield with window cleaner and fresh paper towel. Wiping with the dirty cloth creates a blind when lights or sun hit windshield as it leaves a nasty sheen.

Mike Moore, the manager at this Budget location is awful. He is extremely rude and confrontational if anything about your rental gets changed. For some reason he personally believes that the cars he rents are HIS. He will attempt to bully you into paying outlandish fees, and blatantly lie about policy. Of all the rental locations I’ve dealt with over my many years of renting his location is the absolute worst; avoid it at all costs. Like other reviewers have mentioned he does not care about the customer and makes it abundantly clear. Respect yourself enough and rent somewhere else.

We were driving up to prince Rupert when our car had problems. So we needed to go to Kamloops to rent a car. It was Sunday and "budget car" was the only place open. We looked all over the car to see if there was any damage. There was a cut in the right front tire but it seemed okay. In Prince Rupert we hit a small 2 inch curb with that tire and It busted and went flat. We reported it to Budget rental but they refused to pay us back for the cost of the tire which cost well over $200 plus the hassle of changing it. I have heard some bad things about Budget rental. This was an experience that I don't want to repeat again. My buddy had a flat tire with another company years ago and they gladly reimbursed him for the tire.

I have very bad experience with this company. The staff was rude and unhelpful. I wanted to borrow a car and just because I am an international I was asked to provide my own insurance for driving a car in Canada. This was an absurd and discriminatory demand. No other car rental company ask for such a thing. Finaly I rented a car in “Entrepriser Rent-A-Car” and I was very satisfied with their service. Never ever going back again to the budget!

We were forced to evacuate our home in Fort McMurray and had no vehicle. The gentleman working at this Budget stayed open for an extra 1.5 hours so that I could receive a minivan we requested that had to be brought over from a different location.

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICES. Rented full size Sedan. When showed up they gave me Mazda 3(mid size sedan), incapable to drive in snow. They lie it that it's full size. I had to leave Vancouver in an half hour. So in last minute they hand me SUV with extra charges of $100 per day as they have no Full size vehicle. No discount. Rented first time from Budget - WORST EXPERIENCE. Coming back to return they said sometimes we call Mazda 3 as full size sedan sometimes not. Trying to make me fool.

Was supposed to be getting a vehicle from them today...my own burst into flames on the Coquihalla Hwy on Sat....after returning from a service appointment specifically related to me telling them I was experiencing engine trouble. After reading the reviews on here about the suspect charges to people’s credit cards, failure to return deposits, vehicles being given in unsafe conditions (bald tires), and mysterious charges showing up months after the return of the vehicle, I called Budget to ensure they knew this was being paid for by ICBC Roadside Assist, and said I wouldn’t be providing my credit. Immediately the tone changed with George, and he said if I refused to provide a credit card then they wouldn’t help me. Why do you need my credit card if ICBC is paying for this and I can provide you with my claim number? I had also had to change the vehicle they reserved for me last night...the dealership had told them I drove an SUV and they were to give me something similar...well they had reserved a Compact. I’m my grandpa’s care provider and chauffeur...due to severe injuries he suffered fighting for his country I need a larger vehicle to accommodate his mobility issues and devices. Will NEVER use Budget for any reason if this is an example of the service they provide! If ICBC is fitting the bill...you do not need my credit card unless I opt to purchase additional coverage.

And he offered to pay the security deposit in cash. In short, I had to travel by taxi and partly on foot. Now I will knock out the money paid back! Make sure to check the gas before you leave! They seem to have the habit of giving you a car with half a tank full. They are also usually late. If you book a car early, you’re going to be waiting at least 30 min while they clean it. And still, there may still be garbage inside.

I've rented from this location several times. Most of the time everything has gone well, but they have been out of the car type I reserved. I always make reservations days in advance, so it shouldn't be an issue to have the car type I need. I rent cars for road trips to keep the mileage off my own vehicle and always rent cars with good fuel economy so I do not want an upgrade to a gas guzzler.

When I called to check rates I was quoted a rate without being told what size of car it was for - I hadn't specified. When I questioned a policy that had been formerly in place I was told they would check with the manager and see if anything could be done and then they would get back to me. They took my phone number but never called back. I went in person to double check and was told they didn't check with the manager but just read the policy. They don't seem to care if they rent to you or not. My family and I used to give this organization all of our business. The service used to be excellent. Sadly since the move to the Tudor Glen location the service has been terrible. We will not be renting again from this location.

I was running very late for my flight out of Hay River. Gerry gave me a call to check in and make sure that I was on my way, he informed the airline that I was running late and asked them to wait for me, and he met me out in front of the terminal to make the car return as fast as possible. I don't think that I would have caught my flight without him going the extra mile for me. Overall it was a great experience!

I absolutely HAD TO write a review here after the experience me and my family just had. It was December 23rd and my brother, while vacationing in Whitehorse, had been in a serious, life-threatening accident. My family all lives in Ontario so my Dad trekked across the country to be by my brothers bedside at the hospital. We were trying to find a car for my Dad to rent but they were all sold out everywhere until after the holidays. I phoned this budget and spoke to Mike, the manager (or he might be the owner? I'm not sure). Anyway, Mike bent over backwards for us and managed to track down a car by the next day, which was of course Christmas Eve. The shop was closing in 20 minutes when he had called me and there was no way my Dad would have made it down there in time by cab from the hospital so once again Mike came to the rescue and sent someone to go pick my Dad up from the hospital. He could have literally charged us anything and we would've had no choice but to pay it, but he gave us a great deal (I thought anyway, in my previous experience renting cars it was a lot cheaper than I would have guessed it would be, especially during the holidays and high demand). Every time we spoke on the phone he would ask how my brother was doing as well (spoiler alert: everyone survived and are recovering well now!) and Mike came through for us again when my brother's hospital stay got extended and we needed the car for a few extra days. I am just in awe of the hospitality that Mike showed us during such a trying time for our family and would 10/10 recommend this location. Thank you for everything Mike!

Unfortunate thing was I forgot to fill the gas tank. They charged me $200 for just about 12 litres of fuel. I accepted the offer of sending the invoice by email. My fault, if I stayed there to get the receipt on the spot, I would have seen the fee and would have gone back and filled the tank. I was sitting in front of the manager, Steven more than 1 hour waiting for my flight, he should have informed me thar the tank was not full. Also they didn't honor the initial quote when I reserved the rental, which was way cheaper, with almost 10 hours extra on the initial reservation.

My corporate agent called budget and let them know I need a vehicle to drive to Oregon. Upon arrival they told me they won't let me take a vehicle across the border, yet this is not what my travel agent was told. Also, another time I picked up a vehicle and it was littered with trash.... Last time I try to even deal with budget, they have lost my future business.

This is the most terrible experience with car rentals I had in my entire life. I was supposed to pick up the car to take off for the camping trip with my friends and paid in full but when I arrived at the location I was refused to be given a car since I hold an international driving license. No other rental place has a policy like that and the website contains zero information about any restrictions on that matter. So now we have to cancel everything and face losses which I believe is 100% the fault of your representatives. No wonder other rental places in town are sold out and you have a full parking lot. The other guy (must be Chris based on other reviews) has zero personal skills and sours the experience anytime he’s involved. I’m not sure why he is still here as it is clear he does not want to be.

I had reserved through Costco's website and received a good rate but when I went to the location they would charge my card for that rate, instead they wanted an additional $300 for potential problems and the problem was and why a lower rating is because they would not allow me to pay the difference on my debit card but ALL on the same Visa. I have always used this company when flying back home, that was until this weekend. After arriving from a late flight the rep at the desk was extremely unprofessional on so many levels. She was under the avis sign, we asked if budget was there and her response raising her voice was "I am budget" and she asked why it took us so long to get up to the desk. (we had waited in the wrong line for 40 minutes) She then said our car wasn't booked until the following morning, extra money to have another driver on the rental, spoke to us in such a degrading way as if we were stupid to her. My mother asked if we were still getting our original car and the lady looked at her and basically yelled "what, no you messed up your rental" After being told we were getting a different vehicle my mother asked what it was like "well i'm sure you wouldn't want an SUV so you're getting a luxury car you know because you screwed this up" I'd probably need six pages of paper to write about how disrespectful this woman was to us but i'll save you the time. Lastly, getting out to our car that had A FOOT PRINT on the front windshield... yes a bare footprint. The vehicle looked as if it was a personal vehicle that hadn't been cleaned in a year, I was disgusted enough that I had to go buy wipes to CLEAN the areas in which our bodies would come in contact with. I will NEVER go back to this place, being as it was always my number one place to rent a vehicle 5 times a year out there I am saddened by this as I've never had a problem but thanks to this employee that has changed.

We picked the car up at the airport but returned it to the airport and they were very relaxed about the time of the return. And they tracked me down when I left a small purse behind in the car. Very unprofessional and lair. The owner promised me to pick up my car from the storage and he made me to wait a week and still not able to pick up my car from the yard. As as result, I was charged an extra $105. I believe he wanted me to wait so the storage fee would accumulate and then I abandon the car, so he could pick it up for free for himself. I would recommend to stay away from this scammer...

BEWARE I have been renting vehicles for over 40 years all around the world,and this is the worst experience ever. I had to wait one and a half hours for the vehicle I had reserved 3 days earlier. During the wait I was ignored and not offered an explanation for the delay or any information of how long it would be. When the vehicle arrived I mentioned my frustration ,and was virtually ignored. The truck was so dirty the worker had a hard time trying to detect scratches etc. After leaving the lot and driving on the highway I tried to clean the window to only realize the wiper fluid was empty. The next day when I tried to express my frustration I was met with rudeness and aggression which resulted in a heated argument between myself and the three employees. After not being able to solve the problem I left to get in the courtesy car for the ride home, I was told to get the f**k out of the truck. I was then left to find a cab and pay the 35 dollar fare to get home. Every attempt to remedy this with management was met with hostility by Ben the manager. BEWARE that even though the company flys the Budget flag, they are Independent sub Licensees and are basically independent of Budget Corporate. The company owns a series of rental locations under the Devon Transport Group. Had a lady say a prayer right before she put her vehicle sideways into our lane. Shaken, but not hurt, thanks be to quick reaction, and safety standards. Anyhow! Rented a minivan. Toyota Sienna. It's a nice vehicle. For a soccer porter. This particular vehicle was kept below my level of satisfaction. Upon renting, the representative took us out, to warm the car, and to discuss the features. After 10 minutes of that, all while the dash chirped incessantly to inform us that a sliding side door was ajar, the rep wished I'd luck, and went back into his warm office. We tried, and tried to seal the door, by trying to pull it open. Finally, I decided that I was either going to pull the door handle off, or I was going to get the rep back. So I called him back, and, to my own disappointment, I rather sharply, told him that I wasn't going to be responsible for tearing the door off, and that he could come get the vehicle prepared, or we were leaving, without their business. The rep came out, grabbed the door handle, struggled for maybe just over a minute, and then broke the door free, without damaging anything. So, that dilemma was out of the way. We thanked him for helping. Our experience at Budget took the better part of 3 hours, due to financial issues, payments not going through on time, and balances having to be moved. Which, is certainly our doing. We could have been more prepared, and had money freed up. But, unfortunately, we did not. Eventually, it worked. Paying 5 times the one hundred dollar deductible, due to our only payment option being debit. But, we made it work. Another dilemma out of the way. So, we get the vehicle to the road. We turn onto a snowy, slushy arterial roadway, and get in with traffic. The vehicle in front of us, was issuing a fine mist, and a rooster-tail off the rear wheels off his truck. Not matter, I pull for the wiper blades. The top half inch, and the bottom half inch come clean. The 3 feet in the middle becomes a slurry of road mud. Nearly resulting in an accident. Upon further inspection, the blades were stock, upon a3 year old minivan. OK addition, the weather stripping around the windshield had begun peeling, and, judging by the weather cracks to the plastic, that damage was getting old. But, no matter. Resigned to making the best of our 1 week without our own vehicle, we decided to visit a friend, out of town. To make a day trip. One hour drive, one way. So, we set out. As we concluded our visit, we turned our headlights down the road. The effect was lesser to a pair of jam jars, with a sprinkling of glow worms placed inside each. We returned the car the next week, and have never been so happy to return a car-for-hire. Budget, if I may offer some advice: I maintain my vehicle to operating standards which, I admit, may faulter from time to time, but they are things which, as the owner, I know to expect. Things like windshield wiper blades, and headlights. I wouldn't lend my car out in sub-par condition. I certainly wouldn't enter into a business agreement, to provide sub-par vehicles to members of the public. Without wanting to over-exaggerate, I believe the actions taken by your corporation, and by extension, your staff, constitute negligence at best. I suggest reviewing your maintenance logs, to ensure compliance to better road-ready the vehicles which are being driven by members of the public which may not be familiar with them, in perfect running order. Let alone in a state of disrepair. Apologies for being so long winded, and I wish next time to leave a much more positive review. Thank you for your time.

Flew down from Vancouver, to spend a week in Vernon and decided to get a rental car for the week. We booked online, and picked up the car in the morning in an efficient and seamless manner. The car was clean, tank full and smelt fresh. The service was also great, friendly and clear. My only complaint, is when asked for assistance on how we will drop the car off at their airport location, as our flight is at 7am and the location is closed and we of course do not want to risk missing our flight. The response was quite the joke, as because they’ve never dropped it off, they couldn’t help us. Although, we were assured there SHOULD be a key drop off.

My experience with this budget was beyond ridiculous. I am currently on covid quarantine and unable to go to location personally. My wife still needs a vehicle though but she doesn't have a credit card only I do. The only way the manager said we could move forward with my car rental was if he faxed or emailed a form to me to fill out and it would have to be scanned and sent back in. Unfortunately I do not have a computer with the abilities he is asking. So I ask if he would be ok with a video call with me while my wife was there with all identification marriage certificate every bit of ID possible and he refused. Said there was no way to prove it was me but sending random people emails is much more secure. So I ask for the corporate number or his district manager and he refuses me and says he will report the problem I said no thank you I would like to move forward with my complaint can I have corporate number please he said no I said I am aloud to have it my I have corporate number please he said you want Toronto or Nanaimo I said which ever corporate office you report to he said no and continued to refuse the number or to work with me any other way and hung up on me. I know these are trying times but I feel this manager isn't taking that in account. The fact I can send my wife to a bank to sign a $20,000 loan document under same conditions just states to me that he was being difficult as policies are not law and can be bent depending on situation. The fact that this manager wouldn't try to move forward or even ask his supervisor if he could go forward with a video call just shows a lack of customer service during these hard times wish we could expect more from this company

Terrible! We reserved a car to go on a short vacation, showed up at the rental in Vernon and they said they didn't have the compact vehicle that we had reserved for us. They offered us a huge SUV that would have been out of the question for our fuel budget. Now we have to drive all the way home and get our own, un-roadworthy, cramped vehicle. I have been a faithful Budget customer for years, but never, never again!

Hi. My husband and I just had the BEST experience ever with Budget. Our rental wouldn’t start, and Kathleen - the clerk at the downtown Whitehorse branch- went above and beyond to help us. She was amazing and helped my husband get the car going by getting her own husband to come to help him. While They were busy, she kept me company at the store and filled me in on all things Whitehorse. I have never felt so cared for by a company. I have to use Budget for work and have found the customer service extremely disappointing every time I have dealt with this location. They rarely answer the phone and don't inspect their vehicles for cleanliness (I have to go out on my own and report issues with the car if I want them to keep them on file). They also do not ever send me a receipt if I drop the car off after hours - I always have to call and request one. All that said, I have to use them for work but would never consider them for my own personal use.

I had a great experience renting a car at this location before so I thought it would be the same this last time but I was sadly mistaken. I won’t ever rent from this location again. I did my rental online and requested a mid-sized car as I was going to be driving my mom around who is a senior with mobility issues and I needed a car big enough to put her walker in. I also requested snow tires as it’s January in Kamloops and it’s not smart to drive with all seasons. I have control of my moms finances which means I can use her credit card which is what we were using to pay the rental, but I was the one driving. The morning we were supposed to pick up the car I called to see if my mom needed to come to Budget and sign for the credit card or if I could just come because I was going to be driving the car. The lady at the call center was so incredibly rude and unprofessional I was actually taken aback. I told her we were using my moms credit card but I was driving and she said that the policy was the one who holds the credit card and signs the contract is the one who drives. My mom doesn’t have a license I told her and she said since it was Sunday and no manager was available to ok this she could call up the front desk people and see if any of them would be willing to go against company policy and do the rental for me. Are you kidding me? She said if she found anyone she’d get them to call me. I said ok well then I’ll cancel my reservation. She went on to tell me that if I did that I’d be charged the full weeks rental fee. My mom and I both went up to Budget. The car we had reserved online was not ready. They offered us a huge SUV which my mom couldn’t get up into. They said we could wait for a mid sized car to be ready and I said we could take a compact car as long as it had snow tires and we could fit the walker in it. They rented us a Chevy Spark which had snow tires (nowhere on my reservation did it have I had previously requested snow tires) and although it plowed through the snow really well, I’ve never in my life driven a smaller car. And to put a walker in it you had to put the back seats down. The front desk people were friendly and mostly helpful but the lady I spoke to on the phone absolutely needs customer service training or she needs to get a job somewhere she doesn’t have to work with the public.

Absolutely ridiculous, don't ever rent a vehicle from here. You'll be paying $1000 dollars before you even know it. We rented a vehicle from here and they charged extra for winter tires. This is bc, in the winter, you literally can't drive without winter tires, they should have them already on, and not charge you 1/4 of what winter tires cost to put on IF YOU BUY THEM FOR YOUR OWN CAR. The next charge they gave us was for a chip in the windshield. This wasn't a big rock chip, there wasn't a crack. If you were given 15 minutes i doubt you could even find it because it was so small. Like seriously, it was too small to even repair. So now we're paying $500 to replace a windshield that has no real damage, and we paid for them to have winter tires on. At a time and place where driving without winter tires is literally life threatening. Go anywhere else. Don't get stuck with these guys. They are awful, take my word for it. They will be in your pocket before you even know it.

I've never had a worse experience renting a car. Make sure not to forget about topping up the gas tank (even if it's already almost a full tank) or you could be paying an extra $35+ service charge for them to fill it up for you, on top of the cost of gas.

I've rented cars from them twice now and gone in a couple of times to enquire about fees after as well, and they are always amazing. Any time there has been a fee I believe I should not have been charged for (just simple misunderstandings) they have always been good about adjusting and refunding, even a month after the rental. They really went above and beyond, I was not expecting that kind of stellar service from a car rental company. Great prices, great staff, great car selection! No complaints about them at all. They are straight to the point, no gimmicks. I would highly recommend renting a car or truck from them as opposed to anywhere else in Kamloops. Very happy with them!

Rented a cubed van. Filled it up 5 KMs from rental store. A week later I get a $10 charge on my visa with no explanation. I call budget and they tell me it wasn't completely full so I was charged. I tell the lady I drove it 5KMs and filled it up until the pump clicked off. I was told their pump added more fuel so I was charged. The funny thing is I drove the truck 20 KMs total. Beware of the gas scam.

I reserved a vehicle to use while mine is being serviced and twice now a promised vehicle that I reserved a week in advance was not available and ready for me and I had to wait more than 30 minutes while they went back to St. Albert to get one. I drive in from St. Paul and after a 2 hr drive the last thing I need is to wait!!

I had the pleasure of renting a vehicle from Gaagaandeep at Budget / Avis, St. Albert location twice. Gaagaandeep is exceptional to deal with. I have not come across anyone as knowledgeable with the fleet as Gaagaandeep, or willing to share and discuss which vehicle would be my best option. Gaagaandeep intensively listened to what I was looking for, all the while managing his telephone and another employee. Gaagaandeep did this with respect, calmness and a smile. I literally asked Gaagaandeep if he was the owner because of his excellent customer service. Horrible. Had someone hit me and insurance was paying for damages took too long so they put me on do not rent list. And manager ignores my emails. Had my day wasted away because his co manager couldnt get straight answer from him. Names being released soon along with emails! And to boot sent it to credit bouru, because they mis placed payment. Got that removed, and they never took the do not rent off!! Wow, I have spent so many hours with this!

My mom and I were experiencing car trouble in the middle of a road trip, and needed a car last minute on a long weekend in order to make our destination. The fellow at Budget was extremely helpful and accommodating and got us back on track in no time. Unfortunately, after we dropped the car off, we realized we needed to rent ANOTHER one with a different drop off location, and again, we received excellent customer service which went above and beyond to help us in a stressful situation. We were travelling back to Duncan, Vancouver Island, from Edmonton, but due to issues with our rv ended up being towed to Kamloops for repairs from Clearwater. After 5 days in the heat waiting for the unit to be fixed, and no vehicles available to rent, this location of Budget said they'd have a car Sunday am. Our plan was to get as large a car available, pack up and head to the Island. The helpful and pleasant gal who helped us was Caitlyn M. ( apologize if misspelled ), kind efficient timely. The courtesy car picked us up when they opened and by 10 am we were packing. Because of her personal care and assistance we are back to being Budget customers. Now we're home waiting for conditions to improve to allow us to get back to Kamloops to bring the rv home. A really difficult week with extremely trying circumstances ending with a pleasant experience with Caitlyn as a Budget representative, making at least that day more positive and pleasant. Thank you, the Williams Family. An after note is that I called every rental company in Kamloops and most were abrupt with "nothing for the weekend" period. Budget on the other hand said nothing at the moment but let's see what we can do. Certainly the right attitude when working toward repeat customers.
