Wouldn't let me take the car to a mechanic for a 2nd opinion. (That should have been my first clue.) Had two rust issues that he swore he'd get properly repaired. (Rust bleeding through less than two months later.) Said the A/C was great (Actually the unit was so messed up it had been drained prior to me buying it.), said I'd need to "wiggle" the gear shift and use a certain key fob. (Actually the neutral safety switch is faulty.) Did not respond to messages left. Completely dishonest, but entirely my responsibility as I should have walked out of there. I have the car running okay now but I can say with complete confidence "DON'T BUY HERE!"

At first everything seemed great until I pulled out of the lot and immediately had no breaks. Then my muffler fell off a few days later. And a few weeks after that my coolant hose blew, and had a MAJOR oil leak. All of these things were supposed to be fixed by Matkath's "private mechanic". But they werent fixed properly because I still have a major oil leak, and coolant leak, break issues and muffler issues. Not to mention everything else I have had to fix in the last 3 months. Before purchasing the vehicle I specifically asked if there were any issues with the car or anything that will need fixing soon and he Chris replied with "no, that's part of the safety right". Clearly there were issues. Ive put more into the car than I had bought it for and its a 1999. I will never go back to this shop or use their mechanics and i do not reccommend anyone else does. Very bad experience. I would have rather paid triple and got a car that works. Not one that was told it works great, only to have issues constantly.

It was the end of the day and maybe a bad day for him but he was very blunt. We also had to wait while he vacuumed and washed the trunk of the car we wanted to test drive. We knew we drove an hr to come and look at the car and thought it odd he would choose to do that at that particular time. I don't judge people BUT when they speak to me in a condescending way I have a problem with that.

Worst experience ever buying a car. Bought it on a thursday, took 8 days to claim ownership. Chris had every excuse where the car was. Finally got it, still had the check engine light on. The cheapskate Chris (owner) left us with ONE key, and ZERO keyfobs. Every single time I open the door, the alarm goes off and I have to dash for the ignition. I have tried calling multiple times, and he will only answer if my id is blocked. He will not answer, or return a call if he knows who it is. Also, my rear central brake light was missing entirely. I found it stuffed under the drivers seat. How a person can sleep at night after selling such garbage vehicles "safetied" is beyond me. Nothing from the ad for my car on kijiji was correct at all. DO. NOT. BUY. FROM. MATKATH. AUTO. SALES! DO. NOT. BUY. FROM. OR. TRUST. CHRIS. AT. ALL!!! I am in the process of filing a small claims case against Chris, and I suggest anyone else that has bought from him to check your cars over and do the same. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS DEALER!

I found Matkath Auto Sales on Kijiji and was interested in one of there cars. A used 2005 Mazda 3 ! It was priced about $1,000.00 less then others I seen online so I thought I would call and make an appointment to go test drive the car. When I called i was impressed with the way I was treated on the phone and booked my appointment to view the car and take it out for a drive. When I arrived I was greeted immediately by the person I spoke to on the phone, his name was Chris ! He had the car ready and waiting. Answered all my questions with ease. And also shared information to me about other vehicles in the same category. He had quite a sense of humour and made the experience for me and my spouse a lot of fun. I called a couple places prior to Matkath Auto and was not impressed. This dealership made buying a car simple, fun, and I actually enjoyed the process. And I would recommend this store to anybody looking for an inexpensive car. They treated us right ! And we bought a great little Mazda 3.

I purchased a 2005 Dodge Caravan for my family from Matkath Auto Sales, and both my self and my wife were extremely happy with our purchase. They were very Help full in explaining all the features of the Van. And the manager was very knowledgeable and friendly. What I liked was how honest and straight forward he was with us. The Van had a couple dents in it and he pointed them out to us right away. He included a 6 month power train warranty for us and explained it in detail and made my wife and I feel very comfortable in our decision to buy the Van. His energy was very upbeat and he had our kids laughing and made the experience a lot of fun for the whole family. I would recommend Matkath Auto Sales to any one looking for a good used vehicle. We shopped at 3 other stores before going here and there was no comparison. Matkath Auto Sales Price was better, and so was there service. Plus they included the warranty and didn't try to sell us anything extra that we didn't want. Would recommend them highly.

This guy used to be located on Kenilworth Street I bought a car and it was supposed to have safety be certified when I signed on the dotted line when they brought me the car it was neither of those things and had a temporary sticker on it after repeated attempts to get them to do the work that I had signed on the dotted line for I got fed up and wanted a refund because they did not deliver what I paid for I spoke with the owner he said that he had been doing this for 35 years and he ain't refunding me nothing. I had everything I needed to take the guy to court but my father was in the hospital dying so to spend more time with him I just scrapped the the car and financed. Guy is a scumbag watch out

Wasn't told that the vehicle I was looking at was in an accident until I was signing the final papers. Was told it was a minor fender bender. No report. There have been serious issues with the vehicle since purchase. All in the front end where the accident was. I was not told that the damage was so severe that it went all the way to the shocks and the panels all had to be replaced. In certain light u can tell its been repainted. I'm still fixing this car monthly and still finding junkyard parts and loose bolts. And I paid way to much for a junk car! Never buying from here again!

Tough guy Chris seems to sell lemons. And when you bring the safety issues to him. He dissapears and ignores you. Also seems to ignore OMVIC’s calls... He sells his vehicles as-is pretty much. Not “certified and e-tested” as he claims... Stay away from this guy. Unless you find a used car that is 100% you will get nothing but problems from Chris.. Ask to get it safetied and checked yourself before purchase, see what kind of response you get. Probably attitude and he’ll try to intimidate you with that army shirt of his.

Just like the last review, purchased a car "with safety" but less than 1 month after having the car, it was clear that there were many issues with it...had a safety done at a different place and it failed horribly. Plates were taken and the car is not drivable. Chris (owner of dealership) then offers to have it fixed at his shop for half the price! Hell of a way to make money... We have the MTO and OMVIC involved at this time. I recommend to everyone who's dealt with him and had these issues to do the same. STAY AWAY from this guy...DO NOT buy a car from him unless you are prepared to fix it!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS DEALER!!! The owner, Chris, is extremely friendly and very honest! After car shopping for 3 weeks we finally found someone who is genuinely a nice person and not a sleazy salesman. He told us everything about the car, hid nothing, worked with us and our budget, no hidden fees, and didn't push the sale and make us feel pressured AT ALL. Even if we found a better deal near us I would drive 2 hours away to buy from him, just because of his personality. Trust me, you won't regret visiting this place. Drove 3 hours to see a vehicle on this lot (prearranged time to view today) only for the dealership to be closed and no one there and unreturned phone calls and email. After reading the other reviews I'm a bit relieved that we didn't have anyone there to sell us an unsafe/unreliable vehicle. The vehicle we looked at was completely different from the Kijiji ad and would need EXTENSIVE repairs before a legit safety could be done. Live and learn I guess. So for out of town people save yourself the time and gas, pay a little extra and find somewhere more local.

Called was basically told I was a liar that a new multiswitch was put in prior to sale. Have had to put new brakes again told they were installed before sale. Nothing but issues. Would not recommend

Hello, DO NOT TRUST AND DO NOT BUY FROM CHRIS!! In early September of 2019 I found Chris at Matkath Motors in Hamilton Ontario and explained that I was looking for a truck that could tow my boat the 3000+K back to Calgary. He sold me 2004 Ford F150 with just over 300,000K reassuring that it would easily do the trick. Chris stated that there was some work to be done on the truck to make it roadworthy and that he would commence that as soon as he received full payment. I sent him $4700 with his reassurance as a reputable dealership. When I arrived on September 28th Chris explained that he had to replace most of the exhaust system put in new spark plugs and checked for other ignition problems. He explained that this cost him over $1000. Our walk around showed a nail in the right rear tire, a driver’s window that did not close properly and quite a few other faults that were not critical for our purpose The boat was in Trenton so we drove 200 km to get there that evening. Within 15 minutes of getting on the highway the engine began to break down when it reached 90K. My co-driver (also with some mechanical background) thought it could be bad fuel or perhaps a spark plug wire or two loose since we were told that it had new plugs. We had to wait until Monday when the Ford dealer in Trenton opened – LANGE & FETTER MOTORS. They spent an hour or so diagnosing the problem and stated that the spark plugs were looking like they were original and clearly had not been changed in a decade. They stated there also was a coil assembly that needed replacement and, finally, they stated that the muffler was “on backwards” and that the “intermediate pipe pulled out of the muffler”. I had never heard of a muffler on backwards but this was what he said. After owning the truck less than 48 hours I spent $1137.50 to have these issues repaired. On the second day just outside Nippigon (a total of 1700 K since purchased) the transmission began shifting on its own and when we stopped to check this out the wheels locked. We were only able to move at 70 to 80 K to avoid shifting wildly but we did get to Brennen Ford in Nippigon. The mechanic did come out and look at it briefly and stated that he suspected the transmission needed to be hauled out and they could not do that work for a week. Also, he stated that the cost might be more than the truck is worth. We had it towed to Thunder Bay to Damian's Automatic Transmission. He stated these trucks were known to have a faulty transmission and after road testing and getting under it he said it was unrepairable. He also stated that it would be very difficult to find a reconditioned one as they were so faulty. We were now running out of time to get home and clearly did not want to invest this amount of money in a truck that had already cost me over $6000. I did contact Chris at Matkath explaining the costs I was facing and requested that he help. He called the transmission mechanic insane, pathetic and feeding me a “line of crap”. That seemed pretty ironic coming from him. He offered to “find me a transmission” but would not help with any costs. After long txt exchange he stated “I can’t make any financial offer. You bought it ‘as is’”. So much for using a reputable used car dealer. I sold the truck in Thunder Bay for $300 and now have a loss of $5700. I took my $300 and went to the U-Haul to pay $1800 for a truck that could tow my boat back to Alberta Frank of Calgary

Wish we could give this place -5 stars! The owner (dressed in an army shirt with a buzz cut) was angry, aggressive, and asked us to leave when we asked if the price on a used car was negotiable. I will never purchase a car from here!

He worked with us and our tiny budget, and the car needed several parts for safety and it was all done properly. (we were worried about the "fake safety" most dealers will do). Our purchase experience with Chris started off ok and ended very poorly. DO NOT BUY FROM HERE. Ive had my vehicle for 3 days. The center console has a nice layer of tobacco inside of it, Obviously never cleaned. There are no mats for the vehicle, No owners manual, and 1 key. He informed me i could go make another one. We asked about gas ect for the vehicle and Chris failed to mention it was a premium gas vehicle. There is a muffler leak, starter is sounding like its going, and the vehicle is making a noise in the engine while driving it. I will be taking it in for a safety with my mechanic this week. Things just dont seem right. ( This car was sold to us knowing our 1 year old would be a daily passenger. ) Took Chris 1 week to get the safety and paperwork done for this vehicle. When i questioned why the head lights were still foggy he gave me the run around. Told me its the mechanics discretion and if the bumper has to come off thats a lot of work to polish head lights. Um..... what. He did not contact me once to tell me what was happening not even that the car was ready. When I called him he provided me with excuse after excuse. Save yourself the time, $$$ and awful taste in your mouth. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE UPDATE ** suv has been parked for several months now due to on going repairs since purchasing it. The vehicle wont go into gear and the power stearing line has blown not to mention the other repairs we have had to make. What a waste 4700$ I have since bought a new car.
