I wish there was less than 1 star!!!! I had my new Honda 2017 Civic in for a receiver hitch install. I had it put on and went home and looked under the car. The guys chiseled holes in my frame leaving jagged pieces hanging off. They left the gaping holes wide open and jagged for brine and salt to get in. Instead of drilling it and plugging the hammered the %$#@ on both sides to install a bolt.

$700 brake and rotor job that had to be redone 18 months later. Island Honda refusing to cover it. Shop that repaired my car stating the worst brake job they’ve ever seen and no lube used at installation causing brakes to seize. In reply to the Owner of Island Honda, thank you for taking the time to reply. Brian, the manager, had called me yesterday, Oct 23rd, stating that you and him had discussed this and decided that unfortunately there was nothing you could do. Brian has my contact information should the above information be wrong and you truly wish to rectify the situation. PS my weekend will be great with new brakes that are installed correctly and at a fraction of the cost. I look forward to getting an extra few years out of them ????.

Just purchased our first new vehicle in over 33 years (CR-V Touring). From start to finish we had a great customer experience starting with the help from Sebastian P.. We had a wish list in mind and Sebastian led us through our options and suggested things we hadn’t even thought of. We were offered an extended test drive so we could get a reasonable understanding of how the car performed and if it was the right fit for us. We even came back at closing time and were allowed (urged by Seb) for another drive to make perfectly sure. We decided yes but wanted a unique colour combo and Seb was able to secure a unit on Island and had it in the shop within a couple of days getting some extra protection installed. We took delivery on a Sunday and Seb even cut a mini vacation short to make sure he was there to personally finalize the delivery. We also had a seamless transition with help with the insurance and registration transfer as well as excellent service with Dave for all the paperwork. We would also like to thank Colton for filling in some gaps we had to understand all there is to know about these new cars with all the technologies. These cars all but drive themselves. I don’t have experience with the Sales Department, but I am beginning to have reservations about the Service Department. I bought new tires for my Civic, and upgraded to Toyo tires from the entry-level General tires that Island Honda first recommended. When I picked up the car the tires (and wheels) were supposed to be “good to go”. They weren’t. I wasn’t quite sure the car was tracking well, so I asked for the alignment to be checked. Island Honda has a diagnostic machine right there in the service bay, and it said that my rear wheels were out of alignment. Alignment was not mentioned when the new tires were installed, which was concern #1. Then when the alignment was actually done, it turns out that it was the front wheels that were out of alignment, not the rear ones. This brings into question why their first alignment diagnosis was so wrong. Concern #2. Then, the first time I took the car on a high-speed road I noticed that one tire seemed to be vibrating. I had Island Honda check the balancing again, thinking that if there was a problem so soon after installing/balancing the new tires they would rectify it without charging me. Wrong. They explained that sometimes a weight will fly off the wheel. But so soon after installation? Concern #3. So, while replacing tires normally takes one stop, at Island Honda it took three stops with additional costs. I will be looking for a different place to service my Civic.

This review is for parts. Overall, the service is good here. But being a large chain, there are costs added that seem really unnecessary. I needed a new key for my Ridgeline (the plastic housing was not holding the key in place anymore). They want around $70 for the key, $65 to cut it, and another $90 or so to reprogram it, so over $200 all for a bit of broken plastic. I just bought the key itself from them for $70, then had it cut elsewhere for only $15, then moved the RFID chip from my old key to the new one. They told me I cannot move the chip myself, which i'm sure means many people have vastly overpaid for a new key. You can also buy honda blanks off ebay and amazon for way cheaper, then just get it cut and move your remote and chip over.

The most outstanding service I've received at an auto dealership ! I pulled in on a Sunday at 230pm concerned that my 2017 Acura RDX was leaking break fluid from the passenger front wheel. The Service Department is closed on Sundays. Dave ( the manager ) personally pulled the car into the service bay, onto the lift, removed the tire, and discovered that the oil filter had a rust hole (!) - causing oil to spray out concentrically from the wheel. Dave replaced the filter, drained the remaining oil, and refilled. Although the dealership closes at 3pm on Sundays, Dave stayed until the repair was completed - an additional 45min of his personal time! Thank you Dave for your exceptional service and attention to detail! ????????

I went down to the dealership to look at their used car inventory. Dunno who the woman was I talked to, some senior manager of some sort. She asked how I might pay for a car, I told her I was unsure. She immediately launched into financing a new car. I wasn't there for one, I can't afford a new car and I prefer to go for used anyways. But despite that, she kept insisting on trying to show me a new car instead of what I was there for. I understand why financing might help my situation, but I was there just to look at what they had for used cars, possibly to test drive one. I had no idea what kind of car I was even looking for at first, I wanted to do some personal research to find that out! She also had a bad habit of interrupting me and not letting me finish what I was trying to tell here I was THERE FOR, what I WANTED, what I NEEDED in a car, and what I was READY for. Might as well have been talking to a bush. She then sat me down and we had a little chat and I went on my way afterwards. Never even saw a single used car in the end. An absolutely ridiculously pushy woman. Is that how everyone is there? I'm sure the establishment is... fine. This review is for her level of service alone

A truly nice experience. You know what it's like going to a car dealership. The "old school" sales tactics and feeling like your salesperson should be the host on a cheesy game show. Normally I'd rather have my wisdom teeth pulled, reinstalled, and pulled again. Island Honda, and especially Colton DeRycke, our sales advisor were just great to deal with. Very nice guy and unlike many vehicle sales people very knowledgeable on his products. From Colton all the way to the management team we never felt pressured or felt they were being "devious". Tried to buy a new CRV here last fall. They tried to sell us one they claimed as new, but actually had over 800 kms on it, several rock chips, a pull on the headliner and a mark on the leather seat. I asked them to bring another one the same colour in that was actually new and they wanted another $1700 to do that. They also tried to add in the “Island Package” for an extra $1000 dollars without mentioning it to me. One quick call to the Honda dealer in Duncan and I made a deal on the CRV I wanted with only 38 kms on it (PDI kms) I paid $1700 less than the best deal Island Honda would give me on their version of a new CRV. I then brought it to island Honda for an oil change. When I picked it up I had been charged for an unnecessary tire rotation as well. Terrible service! Island Honda doesn’t make it easy to shop local! Never again!!

I am writing this review because I want to warn others to be aware of the business practices at this dealership. I lived in the Comox Valley for approximately one year. I recently had to move out of province for employment reasons. I own a 2018 Honda Civic turbo 4 door hatchback which is in mint condition and only had 11,050 kms on it. It is still under warranty and had many extras on it. I made an appointment with assistant sales manager Colton DeRycke to see what he could offer to buy this vehicle from me. The appointment was set for January 24th 2020 at 2:00 pm. In the mean time I used the Auto Trader application to get an approximate buy out value for my vehicle. The range I received was $16,000 to $20,000 Canadian. I was prepared to split the difference and accept $18,000. I arrived at the dealership a few minutes early on the date agreed upon and asked to speak with Colton DeRycke. I was informed that he was not working that day. I indicated that there must be some mistake because I had scheduled this appointment 2 weeks in advance. The receptionist contacted DeRycke on his cell and it was obvious he had forgotten about me. To say the least, I was not impressed. I was then handed over to the General Sales Manager, Dylan Thatcher. Thatcher was busy with another deal so I had to wait over 30 minutes before he could see me. I gave my keys and vehicle documents to a sales person so that they would be ready when he had time. Thatcher took my vehicle for a drive and then returned to the dealership where he was busy checking things on his computer as well as speaking with someone on his telephone. Approximately 25 more minutes goes by and he finally comes over and speaks with me. I want to point out that this was the first time he bothered to say hello to me…such considerate customer service. It was a very short conversation. He offered me $13,000 for the car. I responded by saying that the value of the car according to Auto Trader was between $16,000 to $20,000 Canadian. He stated that he spoke with his wholesaler and a car like mine could be got at auction for $13,000. I responded by saying “impossible”. He then instantly raised the price to $15,000 but indicated that that was as high as he was willing to go. I said no thank you…I will take it to another dealership for a second opinion. To make a long story shorter, I drove the vehicle in question out of province to where I am now living and went to the Honda dealership near my place of residence. The sales manager there treated me like a valued customer. He took the vehicle out for a test drive and within 10 minutes of returning he offered me $18,000 Canadian to buy my vehicle from me. I accepted his offer and the deal was made. Why was Island Honda trying to low-ball me by $3,000 to $5,000? I understand that a dealership needs to make money from used vehicles, but doesn’t that hold true for the Honda dealer that offered me a fair price? I am a loyal Honda owner, but I cannot sit by and allow future Honda owners to get ripped off by the poor business practices at this location. Do NOT purchase any vehicles from this dealership…that are only concerned about profits at the expense of their clients. If I could have, I would have given them no stars as a rating, but one star is the lowest I could go. Buyer beware!

Had my brakes & rotors done 18 months ago at Island Honda with a “B maintenance”. Paid $700 after multiple different “discounts”. Took my car in last week to a different shop to change my other brakes as they’ve never been done in 6 years to find that my brakes that were just done by Island Honda have been dysfunctional and have seized. I contacted Brian the manager who then blamed me for improper maintenance (yet my other brakes that were never done received the same care and maintenance and have been just fine...). The shop here contacted Brian at Island Honda... Brian again accusing the shop that it was their poor maintenance (if brakes are installed correctly, they don’t need maintenance - even tho my car has been taken care of as per Honda’s recommendations). The shop here says absolutely no lube was used when they installed and it was one of the worst brake jobs they’ve ever seen. I emailed Brian proof of receipt of maintenance and photos of the brakes. No reply. Our mechanic friends here again validating the poor job done by Island Honda. I gave Brian a few days to rectify the situation but has since stopped communicating with me. $700 bought me brakes for a year. Stay away from them, this was an absolute awful experience!

My experiences with car dealerships in the past have been abysmal including rude and aggressive with poor knowledge and tact. Island Honda has changed my views on what a car dealership can be like. Starting with the Sales Department which is a fresh, youthful, energetic take on what a car buying experience should be like: fun and exciting! We test drove, received a fair price for our trade in, and got to review options for extended warranties (of which Honda has some of the best value of any manufacturer I have seen). After the sale I received excellent follow-up from my salesperson ensuring that I understood my brand new vehicle to the fullest extent. Servicing my vehicle has been a pleasure. They offer courtesy cars, a shuttle service, and a comfortable lounge if it's a quick job. They even wash your car for free, for life. Don't take my word for it, go see these guys and you will be impressed.

I also wish I could give less than one star. A few months ago I bought a used car from Island Honda because I was moving to a new city. The problems started the first day I drove the car and within a week I had to have $700 worth of repairs done. One of these repairs was to get a new part that the Honda service department had fitted before I bought the car replaced because it was improperly installed. They refused to honor the warranty. I continue to have problems with this vehicle and am currently putting off getting another repair done. These guys really don’t care about customer service and really don’t care about wasting your time. Do not buy a used vehicle from them and do not go to them for vehicle repairs.

Normally I would rate Honda very high but every since I went there to install a new air bag and we were having small talk with the shuttle driver and we let him know how our car may not be the best once our baby arrives in August he went straight to a sales representative and the sales representative got my information on the computer without asking permission from us if we actually wanted to purchase a vehicle. So I have been getting harassed by this person by phone and now texting. I have never dealt with this type of unprofessionalism in my life. Not pleased! This is not a way to sell vehicles when I'm good and ready I will call Honda and request a test drive or more information on my own time!!

Went into Honda Courtenay because we wanted to support the local dealership and buy a CRV. Dealt with Colton as a sales person. In spite of his young age he is VERY knowledgeable about the Honda product line. Agreed to purchase the CRV and only had to work out the details of the trade in value on our car. So their employee Dave came over and we started haggling back and forth over price. I understand the process its part of the whole schtick. But things went sideways with Dave. He became rude and quite condescending. Really Dave?!?!? My wife and i left because he was unprofessional. Dave turned out to be the General Manager!! He's the G.M. ???? Wow. Its too bad for Colton he was great!! Anyways went up the road to Honda in Campbell River the next day. Met Sean and Louie. Both great and very professional. Sean was the salesman and Louie was the closing salesman. Guess what? We bought our car from Campbell River Honda!! Hey Dave, call Louie and he can teach you about being a professional car salesman!!! Thanks Campbell River Honda Sean and Louie. Sorry Colton :( Dave - go back to sales school and public relations!!!

We serviced our Honda at Island Honda for the last seven years. On at least four occasions, the service department neglected to properly clean the car's underside after an oil change, even after reminders. Result: we had oil on our garage floor, which needed cleaning. Who needs that after paying for service? The car was serviced yesterday and once again we had oil on the garage floor this morning. This is such a simple thing to prevent. We don't understand why the service department hasn't made checking for oil seepage after every oil change a standard procedure. We wonder what other 'simple', but unseen, mistakes occur when they service cars.

Two days ago I noticed a used 2012 Ford Escape for sale on Island Hondas web page. The vehicle was nicely documented in pictures and I contacted the dealership to get some further information. I ended up speaking with a salesperson, Colton, who provided the information I requested and also helped identify a second vehicle that I was interested in. Yesterday, I attended the dealership after a brief ferry ride from my home and after being picked up by Colton at the terminal. I was shown the two vehicles and Colton was of assistance in answering my initial questions. Colton, without hesitation, put me in touch with one of the Honda Technicians who was able to further answer the technical questions I had, even though the vehicle was outside the Honda vehicle line-up. I greatly appreciated this as Colton made no attempt to dissemble when there was a gap in product knowledge. He immediately advised me that he wasn't aware of the answer and worked put me in touch with someone who could. This approach gave Colton a great deal of credibility in my mind and led me to continue my interaction with the dealership. I identified the vehicle I was most interested in and made an offer on it. With a bare minimum of "back-and"forth" to the sales manager a price was agreed upon. I asked Colton for the total price without any further fees and received one. Colton assured my that there would not be any "surprises" when it came to the financial paperwork and, true to his word, the price agreed upon was the price I paid. I dealt with "Larry" in the financial department and again I was pleased with the level of professionalism displayed and all arrangements were completed without issue of any kind. Insurance was arranged and I was able to leave Island Honda with plenty of time to catch my ferry home. In summary this experience was refreshing compared to other dealerships I have attended in the past. There were none of the usual "games" with the salesman's "work-sheet", everything was straightforward and the deal completed without any fuss. Pricing on the vehicle was realistic and I walked away satisfied with the purchase I made, the interactions I had with the dealership staff/technicians, and the over-all experience in purchasing a vehicle from Island Honda. Again, Colton, Larry and the Honda Technician (sorry, I can't remember his name!) should be commended for their knowledge and professionalism. I was fully prepared to walk away from the vehicles I was looking at but proceeded with a deal due to the way in which they comported themselves. Thanks again to the team at Island Honda for making this purchase a positive experience!
