Can't say enough of how Darius at House of Cars on 17th - he helped me out when I was stuck (literally in the 40 cms of snow). I called House of Cars and Darius answered; he was quite the character and made a good first impression. He is young, willing to work hard and driven. Customer satisfaction is important to him. I told him what my situation was, what I wanted to trade in and what I was looking for. He called me back, let me know he would swing by for me to do a home test drive - which I was thrilled about! I was able to drive the car where I wanted and to see what it would do in the snow (this was in January after our 40 cm snowfall) - I REALLY appreciated it. I agreed to the trade-in, and right then and there Darius took my trade-in and later arrived back to my house with all the paperwork I needed to sign and take with me for my new purchase. At the time it was too cold for a full detail, but now that the weather is good, Darius is on top of getting that detail done for me and looking at a few other things that have popped up since the purchase. I would recommend Darius for car shopping - be honest and up-front with him about your needs. He does have a job to do, but he is also able to be compassionate and understand where humans are coming from. Personable guy.

Came in asking if they had a vehicle in our price range. Was then told that they had a few vehicles to offer us, which we soon realized were almost double our budget. When we said no thank you they then tried to sell us an SUV which we were not asking for. I'm okay if you don't have anything to offer us, but then please say that and don't try to just make a sale. The agent even mentioned that he would try and lower prices just to try and sell us something to help meet their quotas for the month. Just our experience, but wasn't impressed with the need to sell anything possible. The agent made us feel stupid and was very pushy making us feel like we should not take our business here.

Daruis was the car salesman I who sold me my car, and him and his manager were both great to work with. At the time of the sale I was super thrilled with my car, but in the past two weeks.. a few unforeseen issues have come up. I have had issues with the heating, and now the wiring with the turn signal as well (both things that are kind of crucial). I had to take it in to Mazda to have these things done because they are not things I am able to do myself. That, combined with the fact that it wouldn’t even start when I went to pick it up, (I knew it needed a new battery…but come on) I knew it needed a few things when I bought it, but the things that are coming up are becoming quite expensive, and not something I planned for. Overall... know that you're buying a used car. However much money you think you need to put into it, budget a lot more.

Absolutely recommend coming here is you’re looking for a new car. They have gone above and beyond to help me before and after purchase. Any questions I had they would answer no matter the hour. Had an unknown number text me the other day saying that it was "Lianna" and asking if I had a moment to talk. I bought my car from this location 2 years ago and never dealt with anyone by this name and had no idea who she was or where I was supposed to know her from. I thought it was maybe an old friend or someone who I knew from my past whose last name I had forgotten. I called her back (on speakerphone) and asked who I was speaking to. She said "you called me, who is this?" And I said "no, you texted me, who are you?" This went back and forth a few times before she finally let me know she was "Lianna" (no last name given) employed by House of Cars and asking if I wanted to refinance my vehicle. I said no I don't - and she then proceeded to ask me what my current interest rate was, how to spell my last name and a bunch of other info she should have had on file or at least have been familiar with prior to reaching out to me. She insisted that she does have my files somewhere but presumably didn't know how to access it. I was working at the time of the phone call and had to end the call and asked her to email me any details we didn't have time to discuss and confirmed the spelling of my email before ending the call. My colleague, who was listening to the whole thing as I put it on speakerphone stated "Wow, that was the most unprofessional sales call I've heard in my entire life". And I have to agree. Just blown away that anyone from any company who has had no former contact with the client would first text, introducing only by first name, not mentioning that they are working for House of Cars, only to then argue with the client when called back about who called who first and holding back their name and title. And then to ask me for any and all information about my loan off the top of my head, despite this all being on file, and something that should be easily accessible to employees like Lianna. It was very strange, unprofessional and hopefully this can be a learning point for new employees such as Lianna. Also there was no follow up email as we had discussed.

Was requested to bring our car to House of Cars across Calgary at peak rush hour, in the rain for them to assess the price of the car. Were there for over an hour and in the end they wanted to sell the car to the public for the same price that we already have it on sale for! We should have stayed at home as we burned a lot fuel for nothing and had a waste of fuel and time. The nerve that they want to make the profit that we could make buy selling it on our own. A total waste of our time and fuel. Not something that we will ever repeat that's for sure.

My experience with this branch was a process. After my car was damaged in hail, I visited the 17th ave house of cars to help me finance my first vehicle. Lianna was sooooo helpful, she got me into my dream car (Audi Q5). She searched high and low to find the exact Model that I wanted. About two months later I realized the car was toooo small for me and my family. I went back in to see Lianna, and she helped me to get a bigger vehicle (Acura MDX, my second dream car). Changing a previous 5 star review I had to a 1 star. I got an offer to trade in the vehicle I was financing through them for a different one at no charge if I wasn't satisfied with the car. I had 7 thousand dollars added onto my total for the new vehicle without being told and when I asked about the cars cost in-house because I was skeptical all I was told was "it doesn't go by cost of the car so don't worry about cost" and just pushed the sale. I've brought it to management as well as my rep I deal with personally, and they don't seem to care one bit about it. If you're young, they'll take advantage of you and twist words around to make things seem favorable. Now I have a 32,888 bill for a car that's cost was only 25,888. Thanks a ton guys.

I am not in the same province so she has been sending me details and images of so many vehicles and I know I’m almost ready to go but I just wanted to tell the folks at her work man you got something special there… And anybody else who reads this, if you go there I’m telling you get this girl and you will see what I mean

TLDR: They lied to us. We paid over $2500 in unexpected mechanical repairs. We will not buy another car from them. We bought a used Ford Explorer from House of Cars. They provided a mechanical report that the car was is good condition. They also told us that all Ford-recommended free recalls / repairs were done. We asked the salesman what would happen if an issue did come up, and he said they would "make it right". Within a month after our purchase, several mechanical issues revealed themselves, including a seized EVAP canister purge valve, malfunctioning driver's door sensor (causing the car to always think the door was open), and a persistent bad smell when the car was in motion. I fixed the first one myself ($57.54 for replacement part). House of Cars offered to have their mechanic look at the other issues. They wouldn't tell me where the mechanic was, but instead said I should drop the car back at their lot and pick it up from there. They said the mechanic fixed the two remaining issues, but they didn't provide the written mechanic's diagnosis and repair manifest one usually gets from a mechanic shop. The issues were not in fact fixed. (In retrospect, I wonder if they actually have a proper mechanic or is it just some guy working out of his home garage?) We ended up going to the local Ford dealer. The door sensor was replaced for free based on a recall notice. Remember, they said all such free recalls had already been performed. The bad smell ended up being a leaking power transfer unit, which cost $2484.16 to replace. We attempted to contact them about reimbursing us for this, based on their original "clean" mechanical report and their verbal statement to us that they would make right any such issues. They ignored out attempts to contact them. We will not buy another car from them.

I went into the process of purchasing my first car very nervous. I wasn’t sure what to expect or even if I could afford it. I knew my credit was fair, not good, or great. Sonny from 17th Ave house of cars was so amazing at helping me to alleviate these fears. After pulling up my credit rating, he was able to go over it, and really explain things well and I even found out my credit was better than I was expecting! After deciding on the car, it was a little out of my price range, but he worked some magic and got the numbers into the range I could afford. Now insurance. My deal breaker. I was having trouble finding a quote that I could afford, especially being a new driver. Sonny worked his magic again and got on the phone with his broker, Brent LaRiviere, who was able to find me a rate almost half as much as some of the quotes I had received. Sonny also explained the process of refinancing, and how to benefit from it. Overall this experience has left me so much more knowledgeable about purchasing a car, and also so confident in the process. I was in my car the day after I had inquired, and could have probably even been in it same day! Thanks again to everyone involved in the process. Our family is going to thoroughly enjoy our new wheels!

As a rule I generally don't like House Of Cars. Family has had awful experiences with many. However I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt after a friend had a good experience at Olympic Park. Booked a test drive online and that went fine. However when I arrived, I waited for 30 minutes to speak with the sales associate that I was meeting with. After getting the keys and the plate, I was told that it was a fully inspected car. The car was lowered ( not an issue for me) however it was also straightpiped. As much as I am okay with a loud exhaust, this was 1. Too loud, and 2. A DEALER car. If I had gotten a ticket it was going to be on me. So when I returned and said I was not comfortable driving it, the (I assume manager) came out to the parking lot to try and get more information on why I wouldn't drive it. After telling him my concerns, I was met with a surprising statement that it had a mechanical evaluation done. But that it hadn't be through safety. Avoid this HoC, go to one that acts professionally, has safe cars, and is willing to accept the blame for a car that is on their lot.

Updating this as unfortunately I’ve had nothing but problems since getting a new vehicle. I still stand by the fact that Zayn is WONDERFUL. However, everyone else I have talked to either doesn’t answer me or can’t give me answers. Zayn is unfortunately away and unable to help me right now so I have had to deal with someone else. I have texted, I have called, I have emailed, no one can tell me anything about my registration that was suppose to be “done for me” and it’s coming up on two weeks now. I have no idea what’s going on because even the manager of the branch isn’t getting back to me. I called today and was told that the manager would be “definitely phoning me back today” but STILL haven’t heard anything and it’s been a week. I was super disappointed to learn that the stereotype of used car salesmen lying to people was true. While I'm happy with the car I have, they told me I would be able to refinance after 6 months and then when I came in to do so they told me I couldn't possible refinance the car I bought and I would have to get a new one instead. When I went to my own bank to refinance, suddenly House of Cars 17th told me I could in fact get a Prime loan on the car I already had. They then proceeded to gaslight me and lie some more. I was initially very happy with House of Cars, but now I cannot say enough bad things about them.

My friend and I visited this location and our salesman was the all-knowing, expert-on-cars, Mr. Patrick Coleman-Eustace. To give you some background, my friend and I are both heavily involved in engineering. I build racecars for University of Calgary's Formula SAE team; I like to think that I know what I'm talking about. This location had a Ford Focus ST for sale which my friend had his eyes on. At 3PM, my friend calls in and confirms that the vehicle is indeed still for sale. We arrive at 5PM and the car is nowhere to be seen. Mr. Patty Coleman-Eustace gives us his best act of "I'm so sorry, I had no idea, the other House of Cars had JUST sold it and they JUST came in to take the car." Despite that, he didn't bother to call my friend to let him know, instead, letting us make the 30 minute drive to the location to find out. He tells us to "take a squat" and that he'll try to pull up something for us, all the while bragging about his 600 car inventory. None of which we were interested in, mind you. My friend is looking for a 220 hp, turbocharged, front wheel or all wheel drive car for the winter, which I detailed to Mr. Patootie Coleman-Eustace in no uncertain terms. He immediately starts talking to us like racer teens and reccomends, amongst other things, a rear wheel drive coupe and a family style hatchback. When we mentioned that we were also looking for 2011 VW Golf GTI's for less than $15000, he looked at us like we're stupid and snickered. A moment of silent adoration for our class act, Mr. Pathogen Coleman-Eustace. This is despite the fact that all 2011-2013 VW Golf GTIs fall between 10-18k on Kijiji. He proceeds to try to push my friend into spending $25000 instead, letting us know that spending more money will get you a car with less kilometres and possibly still under warranty. Thank you, Mr. Potato Coleman-Eustace, I had no idea. Let me mention that Mr. Pork Coleman-Eustace had tried to convince my friend that his $15000 budget was too high while on the phone with him the night before. Finally when I hit my peak level of absolute idolization for this man, I stood up rubbing my eyes, and said "Look man, we're just looking for something that has some passing power on the highway. We're not looking to race our cars on the street." That's when, in his infinite wisdom, Mr. Potty Coleman-Eustace hits me with his best line. "Well any car can pass any car on the highway." I stopped. No amount of engineering education had prepared me for this moment. In my veritable state of reverence for this man, the only thing I could reply with was "Wow, that was the most enlightening statement you just made. I think we're going to leave." A round of applause for this gentleman, Mr. Patrick Coleman-Eustace.

This experience actually happened a couple of months ago but I recently was just reminded of it. I had a horrible experience with Sonny (I think that was his name). He was incredibly rude and persuasive. Everything about him just gave off a sketchy vibe. He was really impatient and was too aggressive. Because of his arrogant and cocky behaviour, I just couldn't come back. I'll probably just go to another House of Cars location next time. I will do anything to avoid him
