We chose this place serendipitously. We had a sandwich, which I forgot to take a photo of, meatballs and some slaw. The meatballs don't look like much in this photo but everything was super delicious and fast. Well worth it for a quick rainy day lunch or when browsing through all the unique shops at the market. FUN!

Great Food. Great service. High Cost. This is a genuine great eatery in the heart of Victoria. The food here is amazing, savory and healthy. You're paying for it though. The staff are all friendly and nice. The business owner clearly cares about both how the customer experience is and how the food is served. If the majority or menu items were reduced in cost by $2, this would be a 5/5 post. For now, the items on the menu, although amazing in quality, are a bit too pricey for what they are. As for the comments on the cashier lady, she's fine! I don't know why everyone is ragging on her! She's not the overall encompassing experience of the store! As for people complaining about the food, I have not seen one badly served dish. There's a reason why there are long lineups. Chili should also been served year round.

My first experience at Roast. I had the beef bowl with rice and roasted vegetables and it was amazing - the flavours, the portion size, and the price were all great. Loses one star for curt, borderline unfriendly service. I mentioned it was my first time and wanted to get excited about it, but the server's attitude was anything but.

I had their pork sandwich for lunch. It was pretty good. However for ten bucks you figured you'd get more than just a sandwich. I would like to see veggies added like other sandwich shops. Also portion was a bit small. Went back to work still hungry. My coworker had the chicken teriyaki from the Japanese place in the Hudson and for 11 dollars had more than he could eat at one go. I'm not saying quantity is always better but at least the serving should be enough to get one through until dinner.

These guys know what they're doing. I had the superfood salad box, and it was a fantastic meal. House roasted chicken on a bed of kale pepperoncini, brocolini and a house-made Caesar dressing. Wow. I would give it five stars except for the price. It was not unreasonable, but definitely on the high end of what I'd pay for this meal.

Last time I was here I thought it was a bit pricy but it must be really good. Unfortunately, I got the roast beef sandwich. There was so much gristle and no meat I just threw it out and enjoyed the onion jam and COLD bread. I'll give it a try again but step your game up, there are better sandwich places in town.

Forget anything you read before. I'm a vegetarian 99 percent. The only exception I make is while traveling to Victoria. The pork here is unreal, period. All vegetables and potatoes are fresh and melt in your mouth. Try it! You'll thank me later.

I came to the roast today for lunch. I always get the chicken sandwich. Today i saw a vat of thick cut bacon. So I simply asked if i could add that to my chicken sandwich. happy to pay extra! I was told no, and that bacon was reserved for a specific sandwich. So I ask about the sandwich. its a chicken sandwich with tomato and onion jam, bacon and chicken for $15. My chicken sandwich is $10. The sandwich maker could have easily said i'll sell you the special sandwich and just take out the onion jam tomato ect. so i could have my bacon i happily asked for..instead i was told no. This is a joke. sell your meats. Im willing to pay extra. Terrible experience. Stunned by the business concept

Typical eatery in Victoria BC. Lacks consistency in both service and product. One day the food is hot and fresh, the next it is cold served with an attitude. When will business owners learn that they can't just be good for the first month they are open? Consistency, great product with reasonable prices that reflect the portion size and good customer service are essential in being successful. I expect this shop lasts no longer than a few more months at most.

I got the bowl with rice and chicken meatballs! I prefer it over the pork meatballs since it lets you taste the marinara sauce more. The flavors work well! Defs recommend for cheap eats.

I love the offering and display of chicharron as a demonstration of utilising all parts of the animal, I am a big fan of fried pork rinds! I think the execution of how things are served could be much better. The meat was delicious, but a little on the cold side, as was my side of roasted veggies (although tasty as well). The kale caesar was under-dressed and small. I think if the attendant had prepared things in a different order (salad should have been dressed first, followed by the meat and veggies) I might have gotten warmer food. I do appreciate the option of a bowl over a sandwich though!

Big shout out to the Roast for an amazing turkey Christmas dinner that we had ordered and picked up from them to celebrate the holidays 2020. We were so impressed and blown away with the quality and taste. You guys truly made this a special family celebration. The selection of dishes was amazing, the gravy and cranberry sauce was to die for, the veggies and turkey were traditional style. The parents were so impressed (best ever) and a big hug and cheers goes to you and the staff. We even had enough for a second Happy Holiday meal, the only thing that was added, was Omi's red cabbage.

Great spot for lunch! My personal favorites are the chicken sandwich and the meatball bowl with roast veggies & potatoes. The bowls are quite large for lunch so I usually save half for the next days lunch. :) They also have great cookies. I like that all their takeout containers are compostable.

Very good salad called the superfood salad where you can choose your protein then pick between which vegetables and toppings to add. The toppings are always changing and in the summer they have different fresh fruits. Very delicious!

I was looking forward to going here and trying either the bowls or the roast beef sandwich. I opted for the latter and I wish I hadn't. I so wanted to like this but the beef was sooo pink and I could not get my teeth through it. It pulled through the sandwich as I tried to bite through and I couldn't. I ended up pulling out the beef and discarding it as I could not eat it; leaving me with an onion sandwich. Should have picked the bowl I guess. Great friendly service though!

So gross. The big pieces of fried skin at the front are especially an eyesore for me. To be honest, i avoid the whole market sometimes because of this one restaurant. Do you sell a lot of that skin? I see it sit there at lunch, and again later as if it's untouched. Is it a badge of honor because you're proud? I work in the area a lot, and most of the places there offer plant based options. Do you have anything besides a salad for people who don't want body parts? Obviously not for me, and the flesh display bothers me and ruins my appetite. I'm posting this review because it's my honest opinion and I'm hoping to give the owner some food for thought. I understand that people enjoy the spiced flavor meats, and this place provides jobs, but that doesn't mean people like myself aren't bothered by the sight of dead animal parts. I'd like to see them shift to a more inclusive position like so many other restaurants have been doing.

The food is great for sure, but the service is definitely hit or miss. I've gone here almost weekly for a long time, ordered pretty much the same thing every time, and half the time it's an awesome experience and half the time it's only so-so. The food itself is usually good but sometimes it seems like the staff is too busy to be personable, or plain doesn't want to be there, and it comes across very obviously to the customers. What's worse is occasionally they make a mistake on your order, and if you notice there's this sense that you're almost inconveniencing them by asking for it to be fixed, especially when there's always a long line waiting to be served. Roast is a great place and worth a try if you're in town visiting, the food is excellent and chances are good that you'll have a pleasant experience.

I would like Roast to make changes to how they prepare salads. I watched the fellow touch a handle on a saucepan, the meat and then proceed to make a salad with his gloved hands. I called the shop to inquire if this was standard procedure and was told they have "designated" handlers....not what I witnessed. The potential for cross-contamination here is really a turn-off, so it would be GREATLY appreciated if they would use some tongs or other utensil to mix the salads. YES - the customer has the right to ask them to use fresh gloves when hand mixing a salad, but we shouldn't have to ask!! This practice needs to stop, as this was the third time I've visited and the third time I've seen the guys touch meat and vegetables. And the third time I've left hungry.

I had the yummiest sandwich! They have very good roasted meat (I tried the pork, but chicken looked delicious too). Staff was super friendly and accommodating with allergies. :) The food is restaurant quality but it has the practicality of a fast to go meal. Will go again for sure :)

Came back after not being here for a couple years. Ordered Porchetta bowl for $15 with roast veg and kale caesar. Portion of pork was VERY disappointing, only 1 small piece of crackling. was also overdosed in salsa verde. Sad, likely due to COVID-19. Will not be back.

Poor hygiene and poor service. I ordered a Roast Beef bowl and found human hair on the potatoes. I went back to the cashier and she just took the dirtied potato out without a word said. I was quite shocked and asked to return the meal, she F bombed me a couple of times informing me that its a waste of food and that she'll proceed to give it to someone who's starving on the street. She refunded my meal reluctantly but did not return her tip.

I have always enjoyed roast and appreciate the easy access to a healthy meal. This time I requested little fat on my roast beef as I've been very sick and just can't stomach it ???? I actually can't believe what I recieved. There are only two options someone went out of their way to purposely fill my meal with fatty and cartilage filled meat or they just didn't care enough to put any effort in at all. Very disappointing ????!

Food is subpar. I had the chicken bowl with two sides and my mom had the vegetarian sandwich. The chicken was a watery mess and the sandwich lacked flavor. I was okay with the subpar food as we were just there to grab some quick lunch and wasn't looking for anything memorable. What was outright distasteful was the way the man at the counter spoke to my elderly father. This place really needs to hire some people who are happy to be alive. This man looked like an ex convict (which is fine if they are trying to introduce them back into society) but maybe not put them behind the counter to do customer service. The way this man spoke to my elderly father was so disrespectful. No customer should be treated that way. Then someone from the back came and whispered something to the guy that was serving us and went back inside. He seemed to be in better spirits after that. I want for this place to know that this is no way to treat a customer or any human being for that matter. This whole encounter left my dad feeling so bad that he didn't even eat anything. All in all this is a terrible place that treats it's customers like garbage and serves subpar food. Not worth your visit. Your money will be much appreciated at another vendor inside the Hudson public market.

Hi! Roast is one of the best places to go to in Victoria. The porchetta bowl is amazing, the pork is flavourful and the crackling is perfect. I love having it with the kale salad and lemon rice! If you're nearby you must go there and if you're not, make the detour, the food is too good to miss! If you need small snack get their sausage rolls, again so flavourful. You can also buy their sausage rolls frozen so you can enjoy them at home. Thanks for the great food!

Arguably the best Chef and creative minds in town when it comes to daily or special event food items. A unique variety on the menu thats ever evolving but consistently amazing. An absolute MUST visit when downtown Victoria.

Ordered 1/2 Rotisserie Chicken (for the first time here) expecting a hot juicy meal but was served a cool, dry bird instead. This was the second time at this place, first time my meal was good but not this time. If you order the 1/2 chicken make sure it comes right out of the rotisserie oven. In the meantime this place is on my caution list.

They ran out of meatballs, said it would be about 20 minutes, I offered to put my name down on a list but they said all I could do is wait, it's first come first serve. I was happy to wait and sat down right in front of the cash register. Then another customer lines up, asking for the same thing, and the staff tells her she can pay ahead to reserve her meatballs when they are ready! Unbelievable... I was sitting there waiting for 15 minutes in front of the restaurant, thinking I was first in line for food service, and then they sold to a customer who came in after me. Complete waste of time and super unprofesssional staff.

Excellent service, called ahead as we have some food allergies, the nice gentleman answered my questions. I ordered via the Tutti app, arrive in a half hour. Delicious! Full chicken will give us 2 meals (4 portions) and I did not have to buy, clean, season, use my gas oven to cook, total win! Will order again♥️

I was really excited to finally try this place, but it really wasn't as good as I was expecting. Roast beef sandwich: not a lot of meat, even after paying for extra meat. Some of the beef was good, but some was so fatty and chewy I had to spit it out. Roast potatoes: over-cooked and mushy and really oily. I usually like oily, but this was over the top. Overall not impressed.

I had a chicken bowl. It was okay, but not great. The chicken doesn't come off the rotisserie, it comes from a steamer contraption and by the time it reaches your plate, it's a little dry, but not as bad as it can be in some other places. The "salsa verde" is really pesto, which is fine, but they really should learn the difference. Salsa verde should have tomatillos and green chiles. The sides were very good.

Roast is my go-to lunch place downtown. The Porchetta Sandwich is amazing but it's a hefty portion and I'm no good at moderation....so I eat the whole thing at once. I also love the cup o' roasted vegetables. It's also a HUGE portion, good n' filling, but it's all veg so I feel great about eating it all at once. Having said all of this, my very favourite dish at Roast is their cup o' meatballs. Yup. A big ol' cup full of hot, delicious meatballs soaked in tomato sauce. Man that's good! The staff is super nice and the service is always quick. I highly recommend Roast in the Victoria Public Market.

I've been having lunch here since the place opened because the food is really good. However, there is one guy that works there who has been unpleasant to me for awhile and today he was extremely rude. I own a business myself and if any of my employees ever treated any of our customers the way this guy treated me today, they would no longer be working for me. I would be happy to discuss this with the owner if you are interested in hearing about it.

Roast used to be one of our go to places, but Menu changes are very disappointing. porchetta bowl used to come with provelone and brocolini and a bit of crispy skin now just fatty meat and poorly dressed salad! Sandwiches used to be served on a portugese style bun, now its served on a generic hard roll. You'd think during the covid "lockdown" they'd put a little more effort in! We put effort into supporting our local businesses but Will not be back to Roast

The cashier is really rude with a lousy hipster attitude and refused to smile back at me.Even when I tipped her, for no reason at all apparently. I've frequented roast for a few years and now I am done. Last time i tried to supoort them i was there at 10 mins after opening and the fella working there was really rude and told me that they wouldnt have meat until after 12... so why would a meat place open at 11 then? Pathetic amounts of food for what they charge, the person making my food had slimy wet gloves and seemed less than thrilled to be making my sandwich . The buns were cold , The meat was cold, one lousy piece of veg in the sandwich. I'm so disappointed and will not be spending my money there anymore . This is a business that relys 100% on customers being happy, as it is for any other food establishment, but I feel like this business doesn't understand that. The rude staff was enough to make me never go back, let alone the cold lackluster food.
