I worked there for 3-4 months, and honestly it was the worst time of my life. Worked less than 5 hours a week, awful pay (I was literally getting maybe 20$ a week), and I was treated rude and unfairly. Bosses and supervisors are mean, And they're not very cleanly. This is a good solid grocery store, nice fresh produce, reasonably priced and a overall good selection. Today the meat section was a little thin on product but given the date (dec 30) I really had no business expecting there to be any good steak left, found a lovely leg of lamb for a great price though so all's well that ends well. Will definately be making this a frequent destination for groceries.

It used to be that meat prices and chicken were great here, now the cost has gone high, nonetheless, the chicken can at times still be found at nice prices. I however, enjoy the friendly service as the staff are very helpful.

I have done one shopping trip here since the pandemic began, and will say their staff are polite, helpful and friendly. They have decent products for the most part (produce can be hit and miss in terms of freshness - e.g. avocados), but that's what freezers are for! There was adequate supply of everything except for mass shortage items such as hand sanitizer and I didn't have any strange experiences with yahoo shoppers that should be ordering from home (e.g. I was at Sobeys lined up a few metres away from an older patron who asked me to create further distance - I wasn't sure what to blame, her anxiety or my non-white skin).

Great option for affordable groceries in St Thomas. Lots of parking available. There are a couple things that make this grocery store a great option. 1. You don’t need a quarter for the carts. 2. It’s clean. 3. Line ups are small. I find it to be the best option for bargain prices, good deals weekly, on everything including meat. Good selection of meat and presented well. You can also get cooked chickens here as well.

It’s definitely a discount grocery store. It’s fine for going in for things that are on sale. But their produce always looks dirty and damaged or beat up now and then you can find some good things priced pretty fairly so we still tend to frequent this place. Two stars because they often sell expired food or food that expires the same day, so when you come home and the next day or two days later you grab it to eat it and it’s already gone bad. Also prices have really gone up a lot and the amount of food in the packaging is shrinking.

The coolers are always warm and the freezers aren't freezing. A lot of frozen product is squishy and thawed. The floors are a disaster and the shopping carts don't push together because they are not all the same size. Rarely are baskets available because they don't bring the used baskets from the registers to the entrance. Good selection of hot sauces in the ethnic department.

Prices were great, customer service was terrible. Only 2 tills open while 12 people waited in line for 10+ minutes. When someone asked if the exspress lane could open, a worker said "nope." and just walked away. As we were exiting the parking lot, a delivery truck blocked the entire exit, forcing us to back up and drive around to the another store's parking lot to exit. Super disorganized, will not be returning to shop there again.

New store, maybe the sparse shoppers should have been a clue. Meat department looked as though it hadn't been stocked since Saturday. More than 2/3 empty! No selection...1 or 2 pkg of what few cuts they did have. I was a fairly consistent Metro shopper in Toronto, this offshoot is more than disappointing. First and last visit unless something changes!

Shopping is not my favourite thing to do, but when the cupboards and fridge are empty my go to place is Food Basics, it's a smaller grocery store, products are easy to find so I can get in and get out in a short period of time. Food Basics has a great selection of vegetables, fruits, dairy, meats and much more. Service is good, the staff and cashiers are friendly, the store is always clean.

Food Basics has good, fresh produce competitively priced, Omega eggs that aren't free range and $6/12, and reasonably priced 10% cream. They also have Herdez salsa, a Mexican brand, along with other Mexican products. My girls love using the smaller kids' carts and once took the larger cart that looks like a car, with steering wheels for the kids. The great part is it keeps them contained and entertained!

Nice grocery store here in town. Fairly clean, easy access to boxes to pack your groceries up when you leave. Good variety of foods, local and international. Good deals from time to time. The aisles are a little narrow and you can end up "training" (being stuck behind several other people/carts) even with moderate foot traffic; there's not much room to get around. This store has done some renos recently that have improved the store. My favorite part is the self checkouts. They are very nice!

Update: I have noticed that they have put an end to masklessness and are actively working to clean carts and keep a limit on people indoors. I also appreciate that much of their veggies are not all wrapped in plastic like other stores so I have raised the number of stars. Today in a 10 minute span I saw 4 people without masks on. The managers are such cowards not to set a clear policy and instead expect staff and customers to police. Just emboldens these people and makes us not want to shop here any more.

I will no longer shop at the store, I witnessed two employees calling a trans man wearing a dress derogatory names beginning with F. I asked to speak to the manager, the nighttime manager told me, “ what do you expect me to do he shouldn’t be wearing a dress, so he deserves it”, I told him I was in shock at his comment, he then told me there was nothing he could do, that boys will be boys calling people names. When I left I approached the customer who was called names in the parking lot, the customer told me the employees in the store have been doing this for a few years, and unfortunately she cannot afford to go anywhere else. UNBELIEVABLE! SHAME

Its a pretty big food basics. I like that there is a bunch of parking. They usually have whatever is on sale and a good selection of it.

Always our go-to grocery store. Fresh produce (most of the time. Lettuce is hit or miss for quality) and excellent weekly sales. Always something on sale we eat so we rarely buy full price veggies except on special occasions. Much better than No Frill’s and Walmart’s freshness and quality though not quite what you’d expect at pricier grocery stores like say Zehrs or Sobeys. On average you get what you pay for!

Did my full grocery shopping this morning including items for my mother-in-law. The store is large enough that it is easy to maintain a 6-foot distance between other shoppers. It was also not very busy at that time, they had one staff member constantly cleaning door handles on the freezers and other high-traffic areas.

IMO their just like any other grocery store. Watch your flyers for specials and so long as the store's aren't too far apart then plan your shopping accordingly or price match at your favorite store if they have the same brand. Some of their store brand frozen entrees are a good deal and higher quality than other store brands.

Hello I would rate this store 1 star but they have really good pricing. MOLD is something they sell as well. They're berries are moldy way to often! They sell moldy bread( WHICH GAVE MY DAUGHTER A REALLY BAD FEVER AND UPSET STOMACH AND MADE THE WHOLE FAMILY FEEL BAD), old whipping cream and toxic smelling raisins.

I have no problems with food basics. The selection is good and the prices are great. I find that I can fill a cart for 120-150$, whereas if I went to zerhs the same full cart would cost over $300. I've never had a problem with quality. I recommend food basics if on a budget.

Every time I buy produce it is rotten, and when I point out the fact that there is rotten lettuce and then come back later that day, it is still on the shelf. We have even bought a bag of walnuts that were all black and shriveled inside. Dont bother buying fresh stuff there.

The store was difficult for me to navigate as it felt a little backwards to the layouts I'm accustomed to; However, my biggest issue was the carts full of empty boxes laying around the aisles and the young girl who checked me out. She was busy speaking with the girl in the next til, discussing how the one girl arrived 7 minutes early and how she felt that meant she could punch out 7 minutes early. 7 minutes?? Really? What happened to the days of arriving 15 minutes early? Besides the 7 minutes conversation, I tried to be extremely polite and engage in conversation but nope, she IGNORED me... literally didnt speak a word to me through all my time at the check out line. For my second time in this store, I am disappointed in the staff and lack of respect for customer service.
