Halenda's Meats is a very well managed, well kept meat store! The meat products are always fresh and of the highest quality of meats. The prices are sometimes high but they offer many specials. The staff are well trained, polite and very helpful plus very knowledgeable about all their products. They also offer frozen foods and a small supply of very delicious sauses! Their garlic products are intense garlic product and very delicious. Their chicken wings and chicken legs are large! Their bone less, skin less chicken breasts are the best and I only buy this product at Halenda's. There are some prepared foods and they are always fresh and delicious! There are frozen pies and some pastries. Great place to get the meat you would need for a barbecue! Their uncooked meats and fresh vegetables on a barbecue stick are eye catching and very delicious! They have a few spices but no many! I have shopped at Halenda's Meats for over 40 years.

Decent enough, overpriced however. (Surely not that great to justify the costs, tastes like meat) Decent enough meat, surely overpriced. Perhaps due to how much staff is on at one time. (And it's not my responsibility to pay their wages through overpriced products) Won't place another order due to cost, only issue was 2 - 32 oz steaks were under 30 oz.(28 and 27) (Placed a $400+ order - random things - which isn't really that much food)) Should be bang on the weight for the $22+ you pay per steak I'll be sticking to the local grocery store for sure.

Probably the freshest retail meat available in Durham...no kidding. We've been coming here for years for steak, chicken, turkey etc; and we've never been disappointed with the quality. The food always delivers on freshness and taste and the staff are always asking the patrons if they're being served/helped. I wish I experienced customer service like this at all the businesses I come into contact with.

This is our usual Helenda’s store that we shop at, weekly and sometimes multiple times a week. Friendly and helpful staff, great prices and high quality meat. The service has not down graded due to covid like at other places in fact it seems that the store has more staff on hand during known busy hours. This is much appreciated by your customers.

I haven't been to Halenda"s in many years now. It seems to me that they have a lot more pre seasoned meats, and even ready foods. They still have a wonderful selection of meats and deli meats. I haven't yet prepared any of what I purchased (I prefer to prepare my own meals), but if the quality is as it was years back it should be wonderful.

We have been here a few times for meats and have always enjoyed the fresh products and friendly staff. Most recently we bought souvlaki here. Chicken and pork. They were absolutely huge, extremely tastey and very affordable. We bought them for a get together with friends and family and everyone commented on how good the meat was. I mean I bbq'd to perfection but the meat made all the difference. Won't buy souvlaki anywhere else again. Honestly they were huge. No need for more than one per person.

I would like you to be made aware of the worst visit to your store, yesterday - Saturday Sept 18th. I am a long term retailer and well aware of shallow complaints and how difficult it is to manage in this covid environment. This is not about that. This is about your team not paying any attention to who is waiting, and not having any consideration for a “first come first serve” approach. At about 1pm I entered the store, and was happy there wasn’t the line waiting outside that I was prepared for on a Saturday afternoon. As I turned the corner to the beef section, I waited directly in front of the T-bone steaks and initially could see your staff helping two other customers. Then two other customers approached the counter to my left and were assisted by two of your staff. (I was further along the line, but fine , I will get another associate to help). When I asked for help I was told “wait a minute”. During this time, the two other customers who arrived behind me were served, and as they were finishing, I asked for help so I wouldn’t be overlooked again. There was no response! I then actually “waved my arms” while your staff busy at the corner talking to each other but then another customer approached them at the corner and was helped. After serving three customers who arrived after me, I decided it’s time to walk out! I am a long term customer of your store and drive from Ajax to buy single orders, and on occasion a freezer pack. We used to be long term customers of Alan’s Butcher Shop until they closed. Rest assured we are not complainers and in fact this is the 1st complaint I have made to a business of any kind in years, but also rest assured we will not be back. I know its not easy looking after lines especially now with covid protocols between customers. But yesterday your staff were arrogant and careless. Wish your store all the best.

Best deli and butcher shop in Durham. Halenda's has an amazing selection of fresh and cured meats, as well as frozen foods and amazing Ukrainian pierogi and cabbage rolls from a Ukrainian Church Ladies Auxiliary. If you don't have your own Baba, this will give you almost the same experience.

The pierogies were mediocre. Maybe that's just my personal preference but I would much prefer straight up potatoes or cheese than sauerkraut. The veggie pockets (samosas?) were pretty good though.

I have been using the Butcher Shop for the better part of 25 years and I must say that the quality of the meat is fantastic and always super fresh, it can be a busy place which can be a great both good and bad....... The good part is that the meat is ALWAYS fresh and amazing quality.......melts in your mouth...lol. I always reccomend Halenda's to my family and friends, with the friendly and extremely knowledgeable staff, amazing customer service and there is no pushy sales professionals . Its usually not super busy, but again it depends on the day. I really hope you check Halenda's out , I personally guarantee that you will not be disappointed and hey who knows but you may ha e found a Butcher Shop for life !!! Update 2/28/18 - Well, it happened again to me. Another bait/switch tactic. I received a promotional email from Halenda for "Fresh back attached chicken legs for 0.99/lb, while supplies last. Not posted in the store, but mention the email special and you get get the price" I spend my day doing my grocery shopping and then as a last stop on the way home pass by Halenda's to get the offer on the chicken. They have the chicken in the display case for 1.99/lb, and I ask for promotional rate, and I am told that they are all sold out of that promotion. "those were for the fryer chickens only". Well, it does not say that anywhere in the email description, and even though they had the described item clearly in the display case, would not honour the deal. This is just poor marketing tactics. Get the customer in the door and do a bait/switch. The whole experience just left a bad taste in my mouth. What are the chances that the same bait/switch on pricing has happened to me TWICE within two months. This has got to be happening to other customers too. I try to support the local businesses, but with antics like this going on, It is time to look for a new butcher shop. One would think they would realize that service is everything for them, but I guess not. 12/23/17 - The quality of the meats is very good. Usually my experiences are good when shopping here. One caution however if you pre-order anything - be sure to confirm the price per pound/kilo of the item you are getting. I ordered a 10lb leg of lamb and confirmed the price when ordering, however when I picked it up, they increased the price by $3 per pound, so it was $30 more than I expected. I had no choice but to pay since I could or change my Christmas dinner menu last minute.

Good variety of meat. Picked up some steaks, marinated chicken breasts and a half chicken. When I went to cook the half chicken noticed it still had the spine. Not sure why you'd be selling it like that? Feel like I got ripped off based on paying for weight. Why wouldn't you factor that waste into the cost or sell frozen for stock? Just a suggestion as other butchers I've been to Brunos and Off the cleaver pay attention to detail.

The employees are the best. Great selection of meat and the whole chickens are more like small turkeys. Usually around 6 to 7 lbs. You can give them your email address and then they will email you weekly sales that only email recipients will receive. Go in and tell them what you want and then the email price. The sale price is not posted inside the store.

Had a great experience here. Had the pleasure of dealing with Cam who gave me some pointers on a good cut of meat. Was able to wrap them up all nice for my dad's b day. Service was amazing, store was well laid out and everyone there was very polite. Prices are also very reasonable and I will be coming here to do my meat shopping rather than the big box grocery stores like sobeys and longos. 5 stars easy.

Have come this store for years. This time not too happy. Bought 6 London Broils $48 athe centres were fine, but the steak wrap was very tough and chewy on all of them. Out family was not impressed. On Top Of That, about an hour later I started to sweat and my body started to tingle. This is a sign to me that I have unknowingly eaten too much MSG. These symptoms affect some folks and is referred to as "Chinese Food Syndrome" I wonder if this much MSG was to cover up an unwanted taste?

We shopped at Halenda's in Whitby yesterday and found out same day (when we received their email flyer) that the Striploin steaks we purchased earlier are now half price, and the chicken souvlaki also now on sale as well. We contacted Halenda's immediately to inquire about a price adjustment and were told, "Unfortunately we do not. We try to have the striploins on frequently if this helps." We are shocked that in store we weren't told the steaks are half price tomorrow, give us the option to come back. Not a response we were expecting.

Staff are great and so is store. Purchased cabbage rolls and they were terrible. Seemed to be a total rice fill and was very dry. Cabbage was not good tasting. We used our own tomato sauce to compensate but the cabbage rolls need serious improvement. Also bought previously and was not impressed.
