I have shopped here for years not anymore due to the store not honoring exemptions. With the bylaw sign right beside it and you not following the law you have now become part of the problem. Make an apology and take down the sign publicly and I may revisit and re do your review. I have contacted Gloria Mcneil the Director of Kitchener Bylaw enforcement. Medical exemptions exist now honor them!

This is my favourite grocery store on earth. Store is always clean, staff is always friendly, they have great specials and some nice products from smaller suppliers...but seriously, you gotta see this meat section. It's epic! A plethora of fresh sausages, any cut of whatever meat you like in any conceivable quantity, displays overflowing with deliciousness, and the prices are great! Even if you're from out of town and staying in a hotel, you gotta find a way to buy some meat at Central Fresh.

Everyone likes to make fun of this place. If you are quick, freeze your meats, or otherwise going to consume them same day prices are good. They have some unique Canadian only brands from local dairy's. Good orders on deli meat. Better prices on Saturdays to compete with the local farmers market. Some things are past date. Just know your own personal limits.

Nothing to do with mask policy here. I went today hoping for a new place to grocery shop. Eggs are way overpriced, roast were almost 30$ each! Which I expect for certain cuts but appreciate a variety of cuts and prices! Please and thank you. I am from East coast so headed to check out canned soup yummm! That's when I almost fainted! $ 2.50 for 1 can of soup!!!!!!! I always buy exact brand for 50 cents each at Walmart and sobeys on sale yes but still! Family owned! With the LRT construction I put a lot of effort to come support them. They provide so much produce to Food Not Bombs as well! Make sure that when you come that you check their discounted produce shelf, it is actually the best quality discounted produce! You can even get 3-4 portabellas mushrooms for $2-4! Also their chicken wings are amazing! If there is anything left after 7pm they get majorly discounted! :) Lots of parking!

Location is great. Easiest place to get to for me even with the LRT. Love the bakery for the Silvas Portuguese buns alone. Meat section is the best!! Prices are a bit on the high side but with the convenience and the fact that it is a privately owned store it is easily worth the little extra.

You don't have to go out of your way to find all the food items your family requires. Central has all of that and more. Whether by public transit, biking, walking, or in your car Central is easy to get to. You'll be glad you paid Central a visit.

The produce section is rampant with fruit flies in the hotter months, if you wave a hand over produce 20+ will appear instantly. They never set traps, which I have suggested more than once over the years but I get looked at like an alien from space. Prices are high at Central for other goods (more costly than Shoppers at times!), and specials are limited except for meat and produce. I only shop here because of the location and hours, but go elsewhere whenever possible.

Central needs to get in line with sales that are atleast on par with theyr competitors.They may advertise something as being on sale, and if you look you can find it elsewhere, cheaper and thats not even being on sale.If it werent for the cheap Hamburger/Meats, I wouldnt even bother going to this store.

A fair option for daily or weekly grocery and household goods shopping. Separate areas designated for Fresh produce, drinks, ready to eat, general items etc. There is a frozen meats and cooked meats section. Decent place with decent offers all year round. Yes!! There is ample parking space and it's located right between the King/Wellington Street and Grand River hospital ION station.

Best pork in town. Their nests are usually always fresh. Large variety of pork products as well as chicken and beef. Lamb is the only missing, well not really missing if you don't mind frozen. Veggies aren't the cheapest in town but they come from local farmers for the most part.

There is one girl who specifically goes out of her way to harass me for not covering my nose despite the fact I informed her multiple times that I have a health condition which makes this difficult for me. The bylaw clearly states I do not need to disclose my medical information to store staff but she keeps bothering me, and she is the only one working there who does this. Everyone else knows that I am doing the best I can but this girl is discriminating against me. She is the tall heavy-set girl with brown hair and a deep voice who works on the front end.

New backpack rule is ridiculous, I can understand implementing it for high school students but as an adult that uses a backpack since I don't drive, I feel insulted being asked to leave my bag at the counter. Last visit I bought some pierogis, when I went to eat them the next day i Discovered it was a solid block that couldn't be separated. It's as if they sat in your freezer for at least a year. You need to raise your quality standards. The meat is decently priced but everything else is over priced so Central Is just not worth the visit anymore. Don't think I will be returning here from now on for these reasons.

I've been buying food here for many years. I like how they are not a huge place so selections are not overwhelming. Prices are okay. Meat is excellent! Staff are efficient and friendly. Update March 2020 - Central needs to up its precautions and protections against the virus. The carts are not wiped down. There are no limitations to the number of people in the store. The staff are not protected any more than others. 26 March update - Central is catching up with the times we're in!

Great meat prices, good dairy and lunch meat section. Careful for sales as expiry dates are very close however they do have good expiry dates compared to other stores otherwise. The employees really dont care about vendor credits so be careful buying saputo products. I went there, employee said she forgot to do it and i kept receipt and stickers, went back again yesterday and she took the stickers and didnt apply discount. I feel really cheated for something so small ($1.50) per coupon Another thing, the produce is always so close to expiry... got potatoes and one week 2/3 of the bag has mold

Great store, I tend to skip the veg and fruit section since they are a bit overpriced (I have another spot where I buy that stuff), But their deli/cheese section as well as the fresh meat section is the best in town, in price and quality. I also hear good things about their hot food counter. They have this really awesome double smoked bacon produced in Hamilton, now I can't go back to normal bacon.

My 38 weeks pregnant wife and my 5 year old son and my mother-in-law went to Central Fresh Market this morning. My wife had an appointment with her OBGYN just down the street and she wanted to pick up some items at the market after her appointment. She parked our car there and my mother-in-law and son stayed in the car waiting for her to return from her OBGYN appointment. The parking lot was NOT busy at all. My wife returned after 50 minutes to see her mother-in-law holding a parking ticket for $25. My mother-in-law does not speak English (she is Korean) and was given this ticket by an employee of the store. My wife goes in to buy some stuff (which she was planning to do anyway) and asks to see the manager. The manager states that he should talk to the woman who gave out the ticket (she is an employee at the store). She does. This woman refuses to cancel the ticket and claims they had been parked there for 2 hours (which is not true). During their conversation, she implies that my wife shouldn't leave our son in the car. My mother-in-law, a functioning adult (despite not being able to communicate in English, if you catch my meaning), was with my son in the care and they had the keys. This is ridiculous, giving a parking ticket to a pregnant woman who had every intention of shopping at this place (and still did, she spent over $60 on food) and was only parked there for a total of 1.5 hours. It wasn't busy and she wasn't "abusing" the parking lot by just going somewhere else and not shopping there. My wife (who is Korean but fluent in English) tried to talk to this employee rationally but the employee made these accusations. When my wife said she wouldn't come back to the store again, the employee said " Fine, don't come back". This is how you treat your paying customers. You must be pretty comfortable. I just want to emphasize that we are kind, respectful people and I never write negative things on reviews. But this is different. And the manager of this place: for you to pass the buck to your employee wearing the "parking police" hat for the day: you should be ashamed. This is your store and your employee. You should take responsibility for an employee's actions, even if they are misguided. My wife will try to get this ticket cancelled tomorrow with the city. Just wanted anyone who reads reviews to know that my family was disrespected by this place and they seem to be completely indifferent. I have to give 1 star apparently. You win again Central Fresh Market.

Living in the downtown area of Kitchener, Central Fresh Market is one of the only places that is within a reasonable walking or public transport distance. The independent status of the store makes for a nice experience. They have always been well-stocked and have some clearance sales of additional items as well. The meat section is one of the best I have seen within the KW area- you can get anything you are using to make a meal with. Prices are reasonable given that it is not a chain and is medium-sized. The location and accessibility, as well as the friendly service and good selection make Central Fresh a great place to stock up!

I used to eat the potato wedges and fried chicken when I went to KCI. But recently when I go there quality has decreased. The potatoes and and chicken are some times undercooked and the chicken is still kind a slimy. Please fry those puppies a little longer and everything would be perfect. This is the only place to serve potato wedges with that special seasoning. Don’t ruin it dude

We were into Central Fresh Market for the first time and checked out the Prime Rib roasts but we wanted a larger one and one of the staff went back into the butcher area and came out with a beautifully trimmed 8 pound roast. My wife cooked it for our son’s birthday and it was absolutely the best prime rib we have ever enjoyed. The appearance, taste and tenderness of this prime rib was amazing with zero fat or waste. Pricing was also extremely attractive and we will definitely be returning to shop at Central Fresh Market. Compliments to your supplier and butcher are definitely in order.

Store is great the one star is for the fact that I went into the store to come out and my bicycle wheel was stolen. I asked the staff if they have cameras they said they do but didn't know how to work it, ok fair enough but what was interesting is that the staff also said oh yeah that happens a lot here and that someone ripped off one of the bike lock stands right out of the ground to take the bike. So if you know this kind of activity happens a lot on your store property why don't you do something to at least warn the people. Had I seen a sign of warning you bet your day I would have locked up that back wheel too....and put up a light in that dark corner .

Great salad bar, great hot food buffet style bar. Someone coming home from work can pickup the same food they'd cook at home far cheaper than restaurant fair. Fresh produce, baked goods and grocery staples are slightly higher priced than the large grocery chains but are of good quality.

Central Fresh Market is and always will be my number one choice for meat. I always feel like I'm getting great quality meat for a reasonable cost. They are a little more costly for non perishable items so I do go else where most of the time for those things. But I always get my meat here. Also they usually have some banger sales on random things like cream, cheese and lunch meat which I love finding. So would I recommend this place to my friends and family? The answer will always be yes! Keep serving the KW area we appreciate your hard work!

I haven't been there for decades, and sorry to say I wasn't missing out much on anything... The cleanliness of the store did NOT appear to be a priority (I did not see any sanitizing happening). The layout was confusing. The produce department was mediocre at best. I could not find any fresh seafood, although the meat department seemed to be well stocked, and the prices were surprisingly good (although some of the cuts reflected the low cost). Most staples/canned items appeared to be overpriced. The staff were not overly friendly (and did not appear very happy). I guess in a pinch this would do if you needed to pick up a few things if you were in the area (they're open late). This definitely wouldn't be my first choice if I was watching my budget. I do like the fact that they are locally owned, but there are better choices to support local in the KW area!

Overpriced on regular groceries, but they have good meat prices. The girl working the lotto counter was rude and seemed to be getting annoyed with how many tickets I had to check. Most of the staff is very friendly, there is an older gentleman who stocks shelves that is constantly swearing while he works, not sure if it's a condition he has, but it can be frightening the first time you run into him. After a while you just get used to it.

I was wearing a scarf over my face, like I have many other times at this store, and I was harassed by the security guard. He tried to make me wear a paper mask, even though I had my face covered properly with my scarf. I told him the bylaws say that my face covering is acceptable, and he said he didn't care. I walked in anyway, like I have 1000 other times before with the same scarf and wasn't harassed, and was followed by several employees. I was made to feel like I had leprosy, even though I WAS WEARING AN ACCEPTABLE FACE COVERING. "Manager" continued to follow me and harass me, even after I left the store. Security guard threatened to call the police, and I was treated like a criminal. Even though I was fully in comiance with the mask mandate. I was able to get the manager to calm down and I calmy explained that I had always worn this scarf here. I wasn't trying to be defiant. He said that since the latest lockdown started they had made the policy stricter (going above and beyond the law again). I told him I had no idea about the increase in policy and that the guard was aggressive with me immediately, and so was he. It was just a misunderstanding and they treated me with incredible hostility from the outset. It was extremely immature and I will not be shopping here any more

My partner and I just moved to Kitchener from Cambridge a couple months ago, and we were asking our friends here "Where's the best place to buy meat?" Central Fresh Market. But, they have a ridiculous policy - no backpacks allowed. We don't drive and carry a backpack wherever we go to carry groceries. I was forced to leave my backpack (along with my reusable bags inside my backpack) with customer service upon entry, even though I was using a shopping cart and kept my backpack on my back. Before I checked out, I had to wait in line to get my backpack back, as there were 6 people in front of me buying lotto tickets, and was told "You can get your bag back AFTER checking out and show us your receipt". After spending almost $200 in groceries, I had to pack my groceries outside in the pouring rain. I've never felt so offended after supporting small business'. It's no wonder small companies like this are suffering. Big Box Grocery Stores don't make you check your bags. Central Fresh: You just lost a customer and it's too bad, because I like your meat selection.

Always shopped at Central years ago until I moved to Waterloo. Occasionally, when I am in the area, I drop in and have been quite disappointed. I don’t understand where people are coming from when they talk about reasonable prices and fresh produce. Yesterday, I found the produce looking a little tired and prices are certainly higher than Freshco and Food Basics. What’s with the price of bananas when they are 59 cents a lb. everywhere else? The reduced produce rack is a joke. $4.99 for a tray of 7 small avocados with some of them going bad? Dairy products higher?

Pork butcher the original fat that there are many natural and my words would not only shook his head. So what is the butcher's job? People can not eat to cut part, To consumers is to do a little better to cut him. what is a natural thing, not just hell happened pig is eating. All the meat is processed. Pork packing of the problem raised by the visible side of the invisible part of the good things of the pork put a lot of fat. It was 4kg pork belly in the 1,7kg fat. Who would forward a special order???

Central has done a good job of adapting to the pandemic, such as by moving their shelves to make aisles wider and finally accepting tap. I appreciate that their policy is now "no exceptions" to mask wearing in store - I haven't seen it tested but they can accommodate people who claim an exemption by serving them curbside so I think this is a great differentiator. They're still open until midnight, which offers some very low volume times to visit. Their meat prices and quality are great. They carry cuts that can be hard to find at other grocery stores, like hearts and liver. They carry local fruits and vegetables in season, so a great option to support local farmers. For a small store, I'm very happy with their selection of most grocery items.

For a market place the produce is never fresh and is sometimes just rotten. Twice i bought sweet potatoes and when cut in half the centers are rotted out. Onions, dried out. Oranges, look fresh after you peel them they are dried out. There is more than just that. I'm tired of wasting my money here to find the food i bought is just expired. Not fresh at all.

Went in today to get some chicken and weages for lunch for my coworkers. After asking a very kind lady at the front about sizes of buckets of chicken. I then asked for a 15 pac of chicken and before I even finished my sentince. The lady working the fryers started to yell at me. She said the chicken was for the students. I then asked how long it would take to make some more for me. She continued to yell at me regarding how she didn't have time to cook it cuz she was doing weages. May I make the point that both chicken and weage containers were full of stuff that just finished cooking. So I turn and walked out the door. Well I was leaving the frying lady still ranting at me. Not everything here is literally fresh, as I hoped it would be. Mostly it’s great. But frustrated when I buy moldy food on the produce section that are on sale. I've found these on mangos, raspberries, potatoes so far. Such a waste of money for those. PLEASE DON'T PUT MOLDY FOOD ON SALE TO TRY TO GET RID OF THEM. It pisses me off.

I used to love shopping here, but I haven't shopped here since the beginning of the pandemic. I do curbside at Walmart, Superstore, Wholesale Club, and Zehrs because it's easy to order online through them. I just don't understand the meat quantities when trying to place an order. I emailed Central Fresh Market, but I haven't received a response, so I have given up. Update: Okay, so as everyone saw that the "owner" responded to my review, I decided to give Central Fresh another try. I still found the online ordering process frustrating, but the quality of the meat is outstanding; therefore, worth it. When I arrived for my curbside pickup, the associate who loaded my groceries was very friendly. Also, I read the Covid19 signage and I must commend Central Fresh Market. No one can deny there is no signage and also the sign does say that masks do not apply to those with medical exemptions. Thank you Central Fresh Market for all you do!

Convenient location and decent meat section, but literally everything else about this store is terrible and overpriced. I live right next door and purposely go out of my way to avoid shopping here. Highly discriminatory signage so close to the hospital is also in poor taste.

Good responsible business standing up to the anti-maskers. As a healthcare worker I can tell you medical conditions that grant you exemption to masks are extremely rare and the ones that do would also likely make it inappropriate for you to go to a grocery store during covid in the first place. We make all patients, staff and visitors wear masks inside the hospital, and somehow that's never been an issue. I can assure you almost everyone who complains about not being granted medical exemptions on masks don't have a legit medical condition.

Disgusted, I watched an employee packaging cooked chickens in the deli with his mask around his chin eating pieces of said chicken over the product he was packaging (Nov 12, 2021 at 9:40 am). Absolutely revolting. This must be common practice as the other employees didn't mind when I mentioned it aloud that that was totally disgusting.

Great for buying meat! Sobeys and other places don't carry larger roasts, this place does and has a wide variety. It also has all the basic stuff you need for grocery shopping. It's never been that busy when I've gone, it's small and easy to get around.
