Bearance’s in Kingston, Ontario is the what all local grocery stores should be. It is friendly. Compact. Well laid out. It provides real cheerful and helpful service. You don’t get sent to isle 16–because there is none! Staff serves you. Their butcher counter is small but well stocked. Don’t immediately see it, well ask for it. They will make it up fresh for you. And tell you how to prepare it if you ask. They have great recommendations. Their in-house prepared bbq skewers are excellent. Burgers are prepared fresh and the perfect balance of right thickness of meat and fat which translates into great barbecuing results. They have fresh choices in seasonal produce as well. All in all it is always nice to shop here. And they make great fresh deli sandwiches to go. Bearance’s is a true asset to the neighborhood.

Not your average corner store. They have a great butcher shop, including locally sourced lamb, home-made sausages, meats roasted on premises and fish kebabs from Mike Mundell. They also sell wonderful fresh produce, including local and organic, and have a good selection of frozen foods. Nice breads and coffees too. You can pick up the canned items, cookies or household items you need urgently but the prices for those are generally higher than the supermarket. Closing at 6 pm and on Sundays is a bit of a drawback for the shopper but no doubt good for the staff and the bottom line. A gem for the surrounding community. No parking lot but street parking is not too difficult and many patrons no doubt just walk there. They do have a ramped entrance on Union for those unable to manage the few steps up on the Livingstone side.

This little grocery store has everything I need and more. The staff are friendly, they have a good selection of food both local and otherwise, and they have a fantastic butcher shop. I've never written a review before but I felt the need to for this store, because it is genuinely one of the best parts about living in the area.

We've been shopping at Bearance's for decades. We feel very at home there with the friendly, welcoming staff, and enjoy running into friends and acquaintances. We particularly like the wide selection of meats, both 'as is' and marinated, cooked, stuffed or in brochettes. The fruit and veggies are very reliably fresh - and I even found cherries there today, when I could no longer find them at Loblaws or Farm Boy. The selection of food and household products is remarkable given its size.

Very helpful and have a great COVID safe system going. Good precautions and a wide selection of needs (from cleaning to fresh produce/meats/baked goods). I tried a mini frozen cheese cake (chocolate hazelnut, made fresh from a baker in Kingston). Was delicious, very decadent. Very pleased from my visit. I’m under the impression the meat area (for salamis etc) is popular.

A lovely little gem. Best gluten free bread in the city. Great produce. Most staff are super lovely...but there are a couple of people who work the cash who can be pretty curt for no discernable reason. Only complaint!

This is the best grocery ever! They have everything you need - plus special extras....and you won't buy a ton of extras you don't need like at the big box groceries. And Dave the butcher will prepare and also cook for you! He's done our turkey, baked ham, stuffed pork roast, etc. I love going there - I am a real person, not a number. The staff are all so nice and friendly. They know who you are! Michael, et al, have done an incredible job making groceries a personal and enjoyable experience. Thanks! I can't imagine my life without you! ps and you will find hand-picked local apples, local strawberries, local wild blueberries - when in season. Enjoy! Life's too short to waste time shopping, unless it's a pleasant social experience!

Friendly, great selection, a little pricier than grocery stores, but not that much more and very worth it. I go here when I need something specific and don't want to be wandering around a grocery store. Also, the butcher is always on hand to adapt to whatever you need or make recommendations.
