Metro Meats and Deli is a long-standing Winnipeg icon for authentic Ukrainian style cured and smoked meats. My 87 year old Ukrainian Mom out in Victoria BC swears that they make the best Kulbasa that she has ever tasted in her life! They use the proper Ukrainian method of sausage making, using large chunks of tender pork packing into the casings before smoking. The texture and flavour of these sausages must be experienced first-hand, for one to understand how much of a difference that this old-fashioned hand-made technique makes in the final product.I suggest that you try both the regular and "Barbeque" style Kulbasa, although that is simply my own preference - I have never tasted a "bad" product from Metro Meats. Even on your first visit, make sure that you buy more than one ring of Kulbasa - if you don't, you'll find yourself regretting your choice because one ring disappears pretty fast! Great service, nice ladies working behind the counter, Ukrainian spoken here - but not essential, they'll still help you if you haven't learned Ukrainian yet....;)

I lived in this area for 14 yrs this place is excellent meat service. Now I've read the reviews and your a not exactly telling the truth about the ladies...the women bicker at each other sometimes in front of there customers? They are sometimes rude on the phone and if your young they watch them like a hawk. So tell the turth! Good place to get what you need but thats just how it is at any convenience store.????

The old (Ukrainian?) lady likes to arbitrarily charge too much for cigarettes. If you aren't lucky you will stand at the counter for 5 minutes while the staff walk past ignoring you. I wouldn't bother spending money on the deli. In fact, I won't bother going there again. Rude, rude, rude. Service is awful. Not a pleasant corner store experience.

Metro Meats is a small, family owned convenience store but what makes them stand out is the large selection of fresh meat and smoked meat. The garlic sausage is my personal favourite. I usually stop by at least once a week.

My review is 10/10 Best bacon in town is here I love the cold meats and u can buy fresh kubby (kolbassa) on a bun for $4.50 and they also make sandwiches GET DOUBLE HAM AND SWISS WITH HOT MUSTARD FOR 7$ (better deal than subway & my friend Andy at the Sutherland buys them all the time told me what to order) Open 8:30 to 6..m to f.. but be sure to call Incase hours change I ESPECIALLY LOVE THEY HAVE 11 KINDS OF KOOL-AID 75¢ EACH Not wheelchair accessible three steps ...there's a post office box there too

In the early 1960's I was a kid on the farm in the Interlake. My uncle worked at CN and lived in the north end. He would visit about six times a year. Every time he visited he would bring a ring of kobasa from Metro Meats and a loaf of Kub bakery rye bread. Now I live in Winnipeg and am in my late 60's. When I go to the farm to visit I do the same. Hard to break a good tradition.

This meat shop is one of my favourites, I buy their smokies every time I am in town. They have hand made sausages of all kinds and a Ham kielbasa that is second to none. There are very few shops that sell the unique quality of cured meats found at Metro. Take time to go try it, despite the rough neighbourhood. You will not regret it.

OMG! I'm Ukrainian but wish I was Polish after trying Metro Meats. MUST TRY! Price: 5 out of 5 stars Reason: when it comes to product quality I don't consider the price. Prices are reasonable and good for the location. Product Selection: 4 out of 5 stars Reason: I went a week before Christmas so stocks were low on the day I went. Understandable given the time of year. Product Quality: 5 out of 5 stars Reason: made fresh weekly and can't go wrong with fresh.

I like thier sausage...just bought some ground beef / pork. It smells fresh. The staff is surly...no point in trying to talk to them. Sullen and kinda pompous....but that might be just me. As an old native woman i take surliness personally sometimes and perhaps i should't. The meat is good. And the price is ok...11.50 for pound of ground, one can of coke, and one sausage and one pepperoni. To me thats a lot of food. And i am pleased with my purchase. I want to buy meat here again.
