At the moment the business receives a rating of 4.4 stars out of 5 and this score has been calculated on 127 reviews.
You must have seen that it reaches an opinions average is really high, and it's founded on a large number of feddbacks, so we can say that the rating is quite credible. If people have bothered to leave their review when they've done well with the service, it works.
You know that we don't usually stop to give scores when these are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...

The food tasted really good that is why you have a 2 star. Everything else is horrible, overpriced wine $90+ is the price of a good quality wine that pairs with steak, overpriced food, all your steaks start at $57+ for 7 oz and crab was $55+ and lastly the server was being over worked as she was watching more then the normal amount of tables during our dinner. I will definitely come back as it was tasty but your prices are a money grab. We spent just under $300 on two people, I mean that is just ridiculous!!!!
$68.00 For overcooked steak, sent it back - had to wait again 15+ minutes for another just to be disappointed once again. Steak had no flavour, tasted like unclean grill. Our waiter had an annoying voice, and welts all over his head and arm, pub class service. For such a beautiful setting, service and food very pub class for this setting.
One of the best restaurants for sure in Kelowna! The food is so good and the service was unreal. Definitely recommend people checking this restaurant out! Their patio was amazing, can't wait to come back again.
Amazing cocktails with equally as fantastic food. We had the charcuterie and Pork Belly and can't wait to go back. Terrific service & a beautiful view of Lake Okanagan too.
What an amazing location. Everyone that worked there was really nice and the food was delicious. I can’t recommend this place enough!
This was my second time at Modest Butcher and it wasn't a great experience. Server was not trained on the drink or food menu and did not understand what Cognac was or the different types of such. As for the meal, two people in my party ordered pork chops. After approximately 45 minutes, the server advised us that she was sorry for the delay but there was "a quality issue" with the pork??? When the meal did finally arrive, the pork chops were completely raw inside and had to be sent back. The Manager never once graced us with their presence to appologize and no discount was offered. Between the four of us our combined bill including wine purchases from our tastings and dinner was over $600. Not the level of food quality or service I expect at that price. I will not be going back.
Loved our experience here. We ordered the Tomahawk steak and were blown away with the meal. Perfectly cooked and came with an abundance of delicious garnishes. Service was lovely as a new restaurant, I’m sure will only get better from here!
Best food, service and ambiance we have experienced in West Kelowna, and we have been everywhere! The four of us were impressed with the steak, burger, Fun-gi pasta, fries, and amazing cheese plate (complete with food pairings like apricots and pecans). Great service! Finished off with a tasting downstairs. Perfect meal and evening. Highly recommend.
We were very impressed with our lunch here! The menu has character and is written with humour - a place that does not feel too pretentious, delivering on ambiance, views, service, wine and food! Highly recommended
Came here for my husband's birthday for the first time and I'm glad we did! We had to try the tomahawk steak which of course did not disappoint, but what really stood out was their appetizers!! The poutine is to die for, it's not your regular poutine! The pork belly and the cauliflower dish were also on point. Overall super satisfied and I look forward to coming back!
Absolutely fantastic dinner to die for. They have the finest steaks, that are as big as my George Forman + a foot long bone. A raveing 10/10 from everyone that enjoyed the food and wine
Amazing food. Wonderful waiter.
Wow! Three things: 1. Get the things on toast. It changes all the time and is the best kind of wonderful. 2. Let Shelby surprise you with cocktails or recommend you his favourite wines. 3. They have international wine. They are the all the comparables to the styles of wine they make. My only regret is not coming on a Wednesday when they’re 25% off. If anyone needs a friend for dinner I’m free after 6.
Had the vegan BLT sandwich and it was to die for! Fries and dipping sauce were on point too. Really appreciate the vegan menu items, our whole table enjoyed it.
This place has nice ambiance, nice view, and a cool patio. Menu and wine selection is good. When choosing the fine dining plates, the value is not great. Service is good and will go back for the burger!
What a refreshing change of pace compared to eating in downtown Kelowna. We had a party of 5 and we loved our food, wine and the waiter was friendly and cheerful. Three of us went for the flatiron and we were thoroughly happy. Will certainly be returning soon. Cheers
There was a bit of a lag in the service but the extraordinary view made it well worth the wait. The food was presented beautifully and was very delicious. I can without a doubt say that the steak was the best that I have had in many years and I would strongly recommend it. Well done Modest Butcher! We are looking forward to your expanded menu. We will return.
I can't wait to go back. First visit to this restaurant and each of us had something different for dinner and all were very pleased and have already discussed our next visit. Good value, lots of flavours in the food. Austin provided exceptional service to our group and accommodated our dietary restrictions in our group. Highly recommend.
Food was great, atmosphere was amazing, and the incredible service from our server Shelby only made the whole dining experience that much better. We'll be back for sure.
Melt in your mouth steak! Our whole family was impressed both with the great service and high quality meat.
Amazing service, great food, lovely scenery. We are staying literally across the street (crawling distance) and will definitely be back, heard the steak is to die for.
Great ambiance, service was very good and knowledgeable and then the food...5 dinners were all excellent. The braised shank was flavoured perfectly but the cauliflower puree should have had more structure as it disappeared into the other juices generated by the meat. The flank dinner was cooked to perfection and the burgers were well portioned with the condiments and bun. Very happy experience for all!
Excellent service, great settings, well designed. They deserve this 5 star because they know what to do and how to execute. My only suggestion is they need to have a list of other wines and more comprehensive selection. Congratulations to the chef for his choices. And one more improvement; sound is very bad had hard time to talk.
We have been here many times. The burger is amazing. I did have a really good steak. They did offer some good vegetarian options for my partner. I'm sure we will be going back as soon as we can. This is one of the first places we tell our tourist friends to go.
Amazing food and the most amazing view! Their staff is always so friendly and go above and beyond to give you a great experience.
Started off at the winery for a tasting and was greeted by warm staff at the restaurant upstairs. They explained the menu and wine list in great detail! The food was really good and a must visit the next time you are in town.
Delicious wine, great food, very nice patio. The whole restaurant has a great down to earth vibe and is nicely decorated in a modern sleek design. The service was unpretentious, super friendly and efficient. We particularly liked the salad and burger. We’ll definitely come back when we’re in the area.
Food & service exceeded our expectations. The new building with dining & tasting room is spectacular.. one of the nicest in the Okanagan. Our food was not only exceptional but plated beautifully and a treat for the eye and the palette. Can’t wait to come back! Oh and their social distancing, disinfecting and masking of employees was top notch.
A lot of fantastic choices on this menu! The pork belly appetizer and the burger may have been the best I’ve ever tasted.
Definitely recommended to visit. Big shout out to Austin who made my experience an impeccable one. From service to food each was incredible beyond compare. The 'things on toast' was delicious. The pork belly was unbelievable and unforgettable. Great scenery while you enjoy your meal. A must go!
I rarely ever write reviews for any restaurants however my experience here was so disappointing. We got seated outside by the hostess, she said that the heaters were on full blast and it will be warm but we got seated at the end, where the heater was barely facing the table. We kindly asked our server if we could move back inside. She told us that she can’t make that decision and that we had to walk back inside to talk to the hostess, even though the server was in and out of the restaurant serving other tables. The food was so average. The halibut was over cooked and so tough. For the ribeye, we asked for medium rare, however it came out medium and it was so bland, dry and tough. We couldn’t even finish the steak. I read in one of the other reviews - bar quality food for a premium price. I’m only giving 1 star because the cheese cake was really good.
Next time your in West Kelowna I highly recommend the Modest Butcher. The atmosphere was comfortable and trendy with good vibes. We had a great server who made excellent recommendations. We ordered the Thanksgiving Cornish hen special, and while we enjoyed it the chef came out to meet and chat with us. This is the first ever experience I have had meeting the restaurant chef during dinner. Overall a really lovely, unforgettable experience!
Our dinner at the modest butcher was absolutely fantastic. The tenderloin was 10/10 delicious, and the poutine(ish) was great! The service was excellent. Our server Sarah went above and beyond. She was super helpfully with wine suggestions, very knowledgeable and overall very friendly and hospitable. The wine at MB was great as well. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an outstanding dining experience in Kelowna. Thanks Modest Butcher!!
Just had the most amazing dinner experience at the Modest Butcher! Exceptional service and fantastic food, Logan & Aaron were so knowledgeable! My group loved the food and our wine pairings were spot on with our meals. Will definitely be back soon!
Definitely one of the best restaurants on the Westside. The menu is outstanding and continually refreshing quarterly without disappointment. Highly recommended!!
Delicious food and delicious wine. If the weather is nice, the patio is a great place to eat at.
Beautiful view, great atmosphere, but the highlight was the food. Absolutely delicious! Staff were excellent. Worth the $$$!
Went to the Modest Butcher for a friend’s birthday. Had an absolutely amazing experience. The staff were so friendly and knowledgeable. They took the time to provide recommendations and even made an amazing vegan dessert for us. Would 100% recommend for your special occasion. Staff went out of their way to make us feel special! We had a vegan appetizer and mains. Everything was amazing and flavourful.
Just went for dinner here last night! It was amazing! Such good food and such great ambience on the patio with great views. Christian was our server and he was so kind and polite! He let us test some wine before purchasing a bottle. Christian also gave great food suggestions! He was able to give some great suggestions and accommodations for food for my vegan friend. The food was phenomenal - which is an understatement. It’s a must to check out.
We had lunch there with some friends just last week. Shelby was our server and he was absolutely fantastic....efficient, knowledgeable and fun! His recommendations on food and wine were spot on and we enjoyed a delicious lunch with a fabulous view! We will definitely recommend and return.
the pasta was pretty good, not saucy but still tasty. The steak frites were nice but I was surprised by the plate size considering the dish itself isn’t all that big. I’d come back for sure.
Ah, The Modest Butcher... could have been such a good experience. I want to start with the positives, the main courses. The main course food was actually really delicious! The steak was cooked perfectly, duck fat potatoes were delightful and the adult chicken fingers were thoroughly enjoyed by my company...this is however, where our positive experience ended. Sadly, our time was ruined by the extremely poor service. Starting with a soup we had ordered for our appetizer that was seemingly forgotten about when the server was putting our order through. Our mains showed but no sign of the soup, we had inquired and the waiter said he would check.. it was probably 15 minutes after we had finished our main course that the server came to the table to take our plates away and said "the chef forgot your soup in the oven, do you still want it?" We thought we might try and soothe our dissapointment about the soup with some dessert. 30 minutes later, our dessert did arrive, it was tasty but unfortunate it took so long. The other big thing for us as guests to The Modest Butcher was the complete lack of food safety and hygiene practices surrounding Covid-19. The fact that the server would take his mask down to speak to us at the table is inappropriate. We also observed him doing this at all the other tables as well. As our server would speak to us with his mask down he would put his hands to his face, stroke his beard and then proceed to hand us the debit machine. Even pre-pandemic, i would not appreciate someone who would touch their entire face and then proceed to handle my food or any other hand to hand contact. Because of this, I believe that The Modest Butcher does not take Covid-19 protocols seriously. Unfortunately, this was our experience and it was negative. Im hoping this review will help The Modest Butcher up there customer service game for the future.
We had a fabulous experience at the Modest Butcher on the patio last week. Our server (Shelby) was phenomenal. We asked him to just bring our food and wine for the 6 of us. We did the tamohawk steak - soooo good, see photo below, the pasta, fresh salad, pork belly, potatoes and broccolini, olives. It was so enjoyable to just have a surprise spattering of food. It was excellent. We had a post dinner cocktail and desserts and tried one of each desserts- I loved the fruit and cream dessert. I can’t wait to return. Make sure you have a reservation well in advance.
Had early Sunday dinner 230 pm. Tomahawk for 2 , 2 happy hour 375ml bottles summit red, deconstructed cheesecake& cappuccino . Total tab before tip $250 . WORTH EVERY CENT. Steak was bathed in butter & done to perfection, 3 sauce side, mushroom medley , veggie and roasted potato accompaniment. Excellent service, nice decor, high energy & loud environment. Great for couples /groups, not the place to go if you’re looking for a quiet romantic experience.
My wife and I went to the Modest Butcher for our anniversary, June 29, when my wife insisted she had to go back after having lunch a week prior with a friend. We love the views from the balcony and service was excellent! Steak dinner was superb as was the tartlet desert. We thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance and Austin’s personal attention for our special evening.
After making a reservation and expecting an outdoor table, we were seated in the bar next to a table with two drunk young girls. Loud area ( didnt want the TV sports experience) watching staff training and flies buzzing around on the window sill. Waiter was very good but so disappointed in the overall experience for the prices we paid.
My husband and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary at The Modest Butcher and our server, Aaron, did not disappoint. We arrived from out of town and although we were a bit late for our reservation, we were seated promptly and later moved to a more ideal table with a great view. Before the meal, Aaron provided us with an on-the-house wine tasting which included a wide range of wines and explained/described each in detail, answering all our questions. The meal was exquisite and reasonably priced and upon receiving the bill, we realized a discount was applied as well due our celebration. We would highly recommend The Modest Butcher (Aaron) and will definitely come again upon our next stay in Kelowna!
Looks great and wine tasting downstairs was good. However restaurant etiquette was poor, I am still here and it’s been 15-20 minutes with no water or greeting. This setting deserves better attention. EDIT: Shelby made us feel very good about having dinner here! The experience was elevated by his attention!
Loved happy hour at the Modest Butcher. We sampled a number of appetizers and loved them. The Brussels sprouts with a velvety hummus is a big hit, pork belly was first rate and the Gnocchi were like little clouds. I also loved the deep fried egg. The view was spectacular and the service first rate. We are quickly becoming regulars there.
Complete disappointment. Ordered the tomohawk medium rare, was less than blue rare like not cooked. I like rare but was way underdone. Then instead of making it right, the cook came out and argued with us. I never complain usually and this is the first negative comment I’ve ever even made but this was rediculous. Would not recommend.
Honestly we were very excited for this restaurant..lots of people had raved about it. We arrived and were sat at the worst table in the restaurant, which was in front of a giant TV and beside the bar..clearly in the lounge area and not main dining area, even though we had made reservations. Then when we asked to be moved, the host gave us a massive amount of attitude and barely made an effort. Food was mediocre at best and wine prices were high and limited. Atmosphere was cold and uninviting, plus, it was actually freezing in the restaurant. Having gone to many other vineyard restaurants in the area, I wouldn't go here again.
We came here last night after walking out a brutal experience at a competitor down the road and this place was a breath of fresh air! Right from the second we walked in we felt taken care of. The host at the front was so genuinely welcoming and got us seated at a beautiful table on the patio. We had multiple staff touch our table and every single person that interacted with us exemplified hospitality. The food was delicious and incredibly quick. Thank you Dani for your great wine recommendation and for making our evening so lovely! Our new local fave, we will be back!
Touted as 'The Okanagan's best dining experience served with a pinch of modesty,' this was a dining experience planned weeks in advance that we were really looking forward to but was ruined by the lack of preparation and planning, supposedly by the kitchen and reservation staff (blame passed on by the manager I spoke to). We were a party of 3 who's dinner took close to 90 minutes to be served because the kitchen was too busy prepping for and serving a party of 16. If staff knew there was a large party coming in for 8:30, why would they take other reservations for that time? I had made my reservation 3 weeks prior to our visit and 8:30 was the only reservation time available that far in advance. I could have been notified they had a large party coming in and have our reservation moved to earlier because the rest of the restaurant was certainly not full - we were wine tasting downstairs for an hour and a half and I could see the patio upstairs had a handful of empty tables and inside was less than half full. The ‘manager’ I spoke to should not have deflected the blame to ‘whoever handles the bookings’ and as a last resort, we should have been told as soon as we sat down that there was going to be an issue. Because none of this happened suggests that there was no obvious reason it should have been a problem but collectively everyone messed up, from reservation booking staff, kitchen staff and management. Even keeping in mind the possibility of new staff because of Covid, more should have been done to inform us so we could make a decision to stay or leave. Had we known when we ordered our dinner that it was going to take close to an hour and a half to be served to us, we would have maybe ordered more appetizers to tide us over. We chose to keep the appetizers light because we had ordered a large dinner. We arrived at 8:25 and ordered all our food within 15 minutes of being seated all the while people from this larger party were still arriving after we had put our food order in. It took longer for us to choose a bottle of wine to go with dinner than actually ordering our mains. The one appie we ordered (in anticipation of a large dinner) took 45 minutes to be served - a piece of toast to split between the three of us. According to the manager, our order (THE TOMAHAWK with all the fixins) has a 38 minute turnaround time. So if ordered around 8:45, we should have be served by 9:30 at the latest however we did not get our dinner until just after 10pm, which we did not get to enjoy because at that point we just ate it for the sake of eating because we were starving and needed to soak up the wine. The minimal discount on our bill and few complimentary glasses of wine did not make up for the very disappointing experience.
Website says there’s a happy hour, and there’s no ability to book reservations in the afternoon. We showed up at 230pm for “happy hour” and we were told they no longer do it, and they were full; yet you can’t request a reservation in the afternoon. Perhaps think about changing your website. Will not recommend.
We had dinner there last night and it was amazing! Our server Danny (Danni) was awesome, she was attentive and provided a lovely atmosphere. The food and wine were equally as wonderful. Thank you for a lovely experience!
The best meal I've had in years. The three of us shared the seared pork belly, cauliflower fritters, fine cheeses, truffle fries, mushroom pasta, tomahawk steak, espresso brownie sundae and multiple bottles of the summit wine. We could have stayed and ate all night. Shaya was was especially enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the food and winery history. She made the experience something we will never forget. We took a few bottles of Summit wine home and can't wait to return!
Undercooked/unseasoned vegetables in the halibut dish. I understand the west coast raw style being more nutritious and natural but cooked fish requires cooked, savoury vegetables. This place seems to be using truffle oil as a distraction for overly simple components.
Servers were nice. I got the slightly more complex salad, it only came with apples, beets, egg, chicken, olives and greens. It said local garden vegetables, olives, greens, but the only local garden vegetables were beets and apples. Other restaurants in the area serve much more variety when staring “local garden,” such as carrots, parsnips, fennel, etc. My partner got the tenderloin which had a hard black crusted charcoal burn around it. They were nice and brought out another cut but plain with no sauces. We shared the king crab. It was very short of average king crab as it was very small and only had one claw. Not much substance to it as the legs were tiny. Does not live up to the other winery restaurants nearby.
Amazing views, wonderful staff, delicious food! I had come back to Kelowna from the Lower Mainland a week after trying the Modest Butcher and made sure I visited this restaurant again! The food was so amazing and the staff was great!
Came to the Modest Butcher Kitchen 2 days ago for the first time. The view was nice, service was good, and the food was decent. Someone in our party has ordered the steak, but was told they over cooked it, so there was a longer wait. Our server was up front with us, and had wanted to comp an appy on the house - good gesture. Not long after, our food came. I ordered the Butcher burger, and the flavor was good; but the salad that came with it was too salty. If there was less salt in the dressing, it would of been perfect.
