We had a meal at their kitchen table tonight. Best meal of my life! Our party cannot stop raving about how amazing the food, the staff and the experience was. We sat at the table-bar and had fantastic conversations with Frederik and Joe. These two are such passionate chefs and business men. They are incredibly humble and talented people. This is by all means the best restaurant on the east coast!!! They accommodated a seafood allergy and were very informative. I CANNOT RECOMMEND IT ENOUGH.

What can I say, Ratinaud satisfies the much needed void in Halifax in terms of cured meat and cheese. Walking in, I was welcomed by two friendly and extremely knowledgeable guys. I sort of knew what I wanted to buy, but was open to suggestions and they recommended some delicious cheeses and meats I probably wouldn't have picked myself. Everything I tasted was incredible, it was hard to pare down what to buy! Prices were exactly what I expected to pay, having gone to similar places in Montreal, with the expectation that it is probably slightly more expensive to ship imports to 1 store in all of halifax vs the many in Montreal. This place is truly a special place with nothing else in Halifax like it. I will definitely be back again!

Ratinaud has the best selection of excellent cheese from everywhere! And their selection of charcuterie that they make/cure/smoke themselves it absolutely incredible. They staff is very knowledgeable and extremely helpful in making suggestions, pairings, and portioning each item properly.

I have been a very devoted customer of Frédérick since his early days at the Halifax Farmers' Market. Obviously he now has a big following because of the exemplary quality and standard he demands for his products and staff. I walk to Gottingen St. at least two times weekly knowing the feasts that will follow often with new things to me the tI have never tasted or even tasted but recommended to try and I am never disappointed but my cardiologist may beg to differ although I know she goes to Ratinaud's as well so it can't be all bad. I am particularly addicted to the salmon terrine but like to try a new small selection of cheese from near and far at least every second or third visit. I relived my time in Southern France with frequent cheese fondues this winter and every time, different cheeses would be suggested and every time it was an adventure bringing me back to Les Arc, La Plagne, Albertville, Bride Les Bain and the wonderful meals we would have during the three weeks we were there for the Albertville Olympic Games.

This is the best cured meats and imported cheeses east of Montreal and west of France. Be warned, the prices reflect the quality, but the quality is entirely worth it.

This is a place where it is important to close your eyes as you try their incredible meats and cheeses. It is the only way to get the full experience of the nuances of flavours. Make your culinary life better, when you have a special event, this is the place to procure the finest foodstuffs. Or, like me, make the special event be an average Tuesday. Loved this place. More than I should.

The shop upfront offers a great selections of meats and cheeses that would be neat impossible to find anywhere else in Halifax. The kitchen table offers a great 8 course meal, which can include wine pairings, it's wonderfully introduced, presented, and delicious!

I went for the dinner...turns out I was the only reservation for the evening and they didn't even cancel on me! I had a personal chef from France for the evening...that and a bottle of chardonnay I brought made for an unforgettable evening of michelin worthy dining. Suffice to say I recommend anyone with an finer palette to make the detour despite the location

I really try my best to support local business, but when they blatantly ignore customers it's hard to understood why I should. Example: I visited them recently and walked in the front door. The clerk behind the counter told me to wait outside even though there was only 1 customer in the store. I'm like ok, fine, it's covid, whatever. This particular customer looked like they were ordering bite size samples of everything in the case and gabbing on incessantly about it. All of this would have been tolerable except when I looked in the window who do I see yapping away to the same customer who's already being served??? The owner??? Meanwhile, myself and 2 other people are standing outside waiting to be served. There's snooty and then there's just plain arrogant. I won't be back. Let's hope COVID's kinder to your business than it has been to most.

I felt it necessary to share my experience about Ratinaud. As someone who has worked in retail/hospitality it is customary to welcome guests into your establishment even when dealing with other customers. Your employees should know how to juggle various things at once and be able to multi-task. As a business especially in the quieter season there is no excuse for a lack in communication when you are not that busy. People should strive to make everyone feel welcomed into their establishment. I went into purchase from Ratinaud while another customer was being served. I waited patiently while the server and guest had an extended conversation all the while completely ignoring me, without even an utterance of "I will be right with you". Time is valuable and the staff member had no regard for mine and after deciding to leave she make no effort to even apologize. I will not be giving Ratinaud my business and would caution anyone to go here. The staff are unfortunately very rude and management need to be made aware of this incident.

The cheese and charcuterie are always excellent, and the fresh bread is a treat. The Kitchen Table is not to be missed. The menu is diverse, well crafted, and perfectly executed every time. The atmosphere is very warm and Frederic and Joe make the evening very enjoyable. If you're in Halifax, go here.

Purchased the regular and lamb saucissons. They are spectacular! Just the right amount of seasoning and fat. The lamb is out of this world. My wife prefers the regular (pork, I think).

I was in several days ago and had the absolute pleasure of taking home some fabulous cheeses, the one that was most enjoyed was the Beemster xo, it was exactly why we were looking for and it was a big hit with our friends along with the two other hard Gouda’s the friendly clerk helped us select. The clerk working the front counter was super knowledgeable about the products and was happy to help with our selections while also giving us plenty of options to try next time we stop by! We can’t wait to come back!

Had an incredible meal at the Kitchen Table. There is nothing else like this in Halifax. The menu description doesn't do the food justice, every bite left us wanting more. They were able to accommodate my wife's seafood allergy, but it wasn't an afterthought for them. Her dish was as carefully crafted as mine. We opted for the wine pairing with the tasting menu and the selections complimented each dish nicely. My only disappointment was not trying the restaurant before now!

Worse customer experience. As a Swiss person I was looking forward to finding a place with imported cheese. There are no prices on the products and staff was not interested in helping me find something within budget. Left with four sausages, no cheese and feeling quite defeated.
