Have visited this business for the last time today. Have been purchasing their Extra Old Cheddar Cheese for over ten years now. Have enjoyed the cheese when I lived in Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan. Would purchase by the case and take back with me. Well, today I go to get a case of cheese and when I went to the side door to ring the bell the door opens, even before I rang the bell and there stands a gentlemen that I assumed worked there . I asked him if he works there, and am asked what I want. I tell him I'd like to buy a case of cheese. He tells me "they don't do retail". I tell him I'm aware but have been purchasing cheese there by the case and would like to once again. He again informs me that the don't do retail. So, I ask him again, can I get a case as I know they won't sell by the wedge and only by the case and that they've sold to me in the past. I even told him of my last visit and how I got a case, went upstairs and paid, got a receipt and left. Next he tell me that I need to call ahead and place the order because they have to have the staff find it in the warehouse and they are busy and they don't do retail anymore. I look to my left and about 5 feet away is a pallet of the cheese I've been purchasing all along in the same place i was last fall when I last purchased. I point this out to him and he starts in about health regulations. So I say" so you won't sell me any even though I've purchased it this way for years. He tells me I have to call 1 day in advance and that's the only way they can do it. I tell him ok but have driven 2-1/2 hrs and was wondering if I can do it this time. Again told to call ahead.
Here's the kicker with this non-transaction, while all this is going on he's digging through a stack of plastic cards (health card, credit card and the like) and stops when he finds his driver's license to show me who he is. He hasn't introduced himself in any way so far but shows me his DL. Low and behold the last name on the card matched the name on the building. LOL, that little act made me think his ego is as large as their warehouse.
I won't be going back only because of the total lack or professionalism shown by Mulder.
Was I supposed to drop to the knee and kiss a ring?
Introducing yourself wouldn't have been enough?
Buy yourself some business cards, you won't look like such a fool.
I've worked in retail and have managed businesses through the years and have NEVER used my driver's license to prove to a prospective customer who I was.
Would it have been so hard to take the 3 minutes to grab a case, walk me upstairs to pay and thank me for my business, reminding me that in the future to call 1 day ahead. I would have thanked you and you would have been free to leave me with the ladies to settle up. Instead now I look for a new supplier.
