REVIEWS OF White House Meats IN Etobicoke

Chris Yelle

Nice local butcher shop with great meats. Everyone raves about the "market" peameal bacon. I think they have the best ribs in town. The marinated steaks and meats are also very tasty.

Fancy wild boar, quail, venison or kangaroo? Whether you wish to make a delicious dinner for yourself or guests, this place will have what you need, fresh or marinaded. Prices are reasonable given it's high quality meats. During Christmas time they offer an order form so you can be guaranteed they will have your game of choice ready for you.

Many food items are great but the chicken breast marinated in their bbq sauce is definitely not one of them. I hope they consider changing the recipe.

Marinated skewers were all good - we tried the beef, chicken, and pork. The imported Spanish and Italian olives were to die for - I’ll be going back just for those olives. I’ve been searching for a great place for olives - it’s so hard to find a really good Spanish olive but look no further! Aged Gouda was also yummy.

I go there mainly for the cold cuts but after my last experience will never shop there again. I was going to buy a pound of beef tongue among other things but told the sales person to slice up the entire piece that was left. It ended up being 3 pounds for $30. As I continued my order, he gathered the left over scraps of tongue and I asked if he was going to throw them away. When he said yes, I asked if I could have them for my dogs. He then scooped them on a piece of paper and put them on the scale. So I declined saying that I didn't expect to have to pay for left over scraps, having done them a favour of buying the entire piece of meat that was left. His response: "Well, I can't give it to you for free" and tossed it in the garbage.

There is a fair bit of game meat here. I frequently pick up the wild boar and the venison. Nicely vacuum packed. Service is very friendly.

It seems service has gone downhill recently. Called to order steak tartare, which I have ordered several times in the past; someone rude summarily told me they don't do it anymore. Disappointing for a pricy butcher shop.

We live very close and visit regularly, probably 3-4 times a week. The meat is way overpriced and the service is barely polite but it's convenient so I put up with it. The last time we visited was first thing in the morning. We purchased some ground beef. The already ground beef looked a little dry and not fresh so we asked to have a fresh piece ground up. They rolled their eyes (as others have mentioned) but did us the great favour. I went straight home and cooked it. It smelled a little funky but I figured cooking would kill any bacteria. The smell got worse and worse until my entire house smelled so sour, like vomit or a dead cat. There was definitely something off with the meat so I took it back instantly. All I needed was an apology and a solution. "Very sorry this happened. Would you like something else?" Instead, I got a bunch of excuses about how the meat was fresh (yes, I think the meat was fresh, but the machine hadn't been properly cleaned and disinfected the night before and as this was the first batch ground, it picked up all the bacteria.) She offered us some pre-packaged ground beef, saying that they do not have to clean the machine between regular grinding but for this prepackaged meat, they do clean it each time. Which is pretty yucky but I'm not a butchering expert. Either way, they need to clean the machine better. She estimated how much the original meat cost and then calculated that we owed her about $10. I couldn't believe that they would make me pay extra after their potentially very dangerous mistake. What about the $3 worth of onions and the $4 worth of avocado oil, plus the spices I wasted while making this meat. Not to mention the time and inconvenience. So she said, ok well I was going to make you pay but I guess I can give it to you. She's not giving it to us, we already paid for something we didn't receive! Not to mention I have a toddler that was going to eat the meat and could have ended up in hospital or worse from food poisoning. All that to say, we returned about 30min after buy the original meat, with the meat as proof and all I needed was an apology and a replacement. Needless to say, we will not be visiting again which is too bad because I want to support a local business. I think their customer service needs some great improvements, as does their staff training on hygiene. Pretty disappointed with the whole experience.

I usually go to this meat shop for my meats. But after reading from one of the reviews about the ground meat and whether the machines are cleaned properly I think I will be going some place else. I have bought meat and have not had a problem but I do not want any problem either. So i will be trying some place else.

Went in to get steak and prosciutto. Two girls working. One had a total scowl on her face and acted like serving me was an inconvenience. Ok, everyone has had days. I was polite, friendly. Asked for a steak. Got that. Asked for Prosciutto - 150 grams. She told me it’s $5.99 per hundred grams. Proceeds to slice it all the while rolling her eyes because she had to unwrap a new chunk of meat and I guess it’s labour intensive? Starts to ring me in. $13 worth of prosciutto. I politely say - I wanted 150 grams, this is too much. She rolls her eyes, takes some meat off. $7 now. Much better. Then throws the debut machine at me. I pay. No thank you, nothing. I finally say - your attitude stinks. She said, well, it was literally 2 slices more than you asked for? So clearly, me requesting 150 grams and her giving me 250 is my problem? Wow. Just wow. What a miserable girl. Poor customer service. Next time I will go to royal York meats. Hope the owner reads this review.

Love the marinated flank steak - it's always a crowd pleaser. The bacon is also outstanding. Stan's advice is always spot on - this weekend he talked down from a big beef tenderloin to a less expensive cut for the recipe we were making. He was absolutely correct - thanks.
