I feel an obligation that whenever I give a bad review, that it not only explicitly explain why, but also provide useful information to prospective customers.
In my three visits to this establishment, I have left feeling frustrated for lack of attentiveness and incredibly slow service. So much so that my last visit, I left without buying a thing. Perhaps it's because they insist on Family members as employees and they're simply out of them? But it's not only the lack of servers behind the counter, it's their efficiency that lacks too. I've been to countless European delis over the years and have seen how they should be run. Think Bloor West Village's delis or even Starsky's large-scale machine.
The take-a-number tags are not in an obvious location. They're sort of hidden on the counter among pickle and mustard jars. The last time I was there, I had forgotten this and whilst looking for them, another customer came in and yoinked what would have been my spot.
The meat I've purchased here in the past has been good. Not great. Also, the prices are not particularly good either. The bacon that everyone refers to is good at best. Nothing special whatsoever. Again, Bloor West Village's shops are far superior at bacon makin'.
Lastly, and hopefully useful to some...
I'm a BBQ nut. I mean ribs, brisket, pulled pork shoulder, etc. and not just grilling. This butcher is not suitable for people looking to purchase meats for BBQ. This is a European butcher with pork loin, chops, and a bunch of cured meats such as bacon, hams and sausages, some chicken and a few beef options.
I don't like to mention other shop names in my reviews but there are plenty of better butchers than this North of Evans Ave.
