I got a chicken pot pie that was pretty gross. It had chicken skin, bones and muscle bits in it. Not just chicken breast. I wish this was indicated on the label because I personally only like chicken breast. For $18 I expected something better. UPDATE: So I went to Sasloves today to buy some sausages for a BBQ. I talked to the owner about the pot pie and she said that they only use white meat and she assured me that the pie I got was unusual. She gave me sausages for free. So they care about customers. I'll give the pie another chance!

Quality and variety of meat is as good but pricey as it always has been, I miss the products that COVID has required removed from shelves like air dried pepperoni and knish. Their chicken pot pies somehow are hit and miss and confusingly inconsistent in texture (sometime watery other times pasty) and seasoning, butcher's in the back are very knowledgeable and helpful, tall young lady with short blonde hair at the cash should have it explained to her that this is a high end service and product retailer she should put a smile on and be just a bit more friendly when taking payment or being asked about special product orders or perhaps saying can we look into it for you and get back to you rather than a blunt "no we don't do that".

I live in Nunavut and started purchasing this meat in April of this year. We have bought two of the specials that they advertise in Nunavut. We have not been disappointed at all but rather excited to have such a good quality cut and taste. Compared to the meat you can buy (which is much more expensive) at the store in the community where I live, it makes all the difference in the actual quality of your health. This meat has excellent flavour, its packed well, lasts my partner and I 2 months, and the customer service is great(Joel)! I recommend this to anyone living in Iqaluit who wants good quality meat.

I will start this review with saying that there is a decent selection of cuts here from all different types of animals. There were even a few things I didn't think I'd be able to get that were here. So that's great! But sadly, the customer service I recieved was less than pleasant. The lady who helped us cut the bag the meat was lovely but the lady who cashed us out was rude and short with us. After we paid, she threw the bag on the counter and walked away, our hands still outstretched, reaching for it. We were very unimpressed. Prices were okay but a pretty far drive for us so I'll be looking for a different butcher shop.

Joel and his staff are so helpful and kind! They make a special effort to provide delicious tasting meats within my dietary restrictions which is so appreciated. There is no where else in the city I can get such selection. My favourites are their bison, sliced turkey and lamb sausages which are gluten free with no preservatives!!

Excellent service. Carries standard cuts but also items like Wagyu beef, Nagano pork, Quebec-style cretons. Plus some frozen entrees, homestyle soups and also Stubb's BBQ sauces. Always something new to try. Love this place.

Update - May 2021 My partner and I had a craving for restaurant quality chicken wings so we decided to call Wellington Butchery to see what they had. They provided us fresh, local wings and WOW!!! Update - October 2020 - Decided to try a Prime Rib roast for Thanksgiving and it turned out amazing! Check out the photos. Thank you again! I recently found this little gem and it has quickly become one of my favourite stores in Ottawa! Every interaction with the staff has been amazing and of course the quality of the meat is outstanding. I have used the curbside pick-up several times now and each time my order was accurate and easy to use. Keep up the great work!

Variety and quality! I find something new and delicious every time I come in and the staff is always so lovely and ready with recommendations. Last I was in they had Australian AA7 wagyu that was to die for. And their sausages are something else! I didn’t know I liked sausages until I tried their Mango Habenero sausage and their breakfast sausage. Recently I needed a brisket but didn’t know what type or size, the butchers in the back knew exactly what I needed and cut it for me on the spot. Will be back to try more!

Quality of the fresh meat is good but they have a lot of prepared or frozen stuff which is not that great. Kids love their cookies. Their prepared stuff is just ok, and the value is not great. You overpay for things you could find in a grocery store by about 15 percent or so.

Super odd experience.. Went in today to pick up dry aged tomahawks for my wife's birthday. I was informed that they are renovating and don't have access to the saw. Inquired about when they would and a separate employee behind the counter openly mocked me multiple times in the distance "I want my Tomahawks now!". I'm a pretty laid back person, was polite to the employee I was talking to through the entire conversation and most definitely not giving off demanding vibes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I've seen other comments about staff in the reviews below. Bad staffing = bad for business. Cumbrae's + Sanagan's were our go-tos before moving to Ottawa. High prices for these types of cuts should be met with helpful service. The hunt for our regular butcher continues.

We've bought large quantities of meat here for years, and without fail it's been excellent. I have no idea what the negative reviewers are talking about, but when we come down to Ottawa from Iqaluit we make this one of our stops to bring back a cooler full of meat. Nitrate-free bacon and prosciutto, local organic chicken, ground bison, amazing sausages... it keeps us coming back year after year.

I spent over $60 on a piece of fillet beef and it was rotten and foul-smelling by the time I got home. They also tried to scam me by repeatedly offering to give me a discount if I bought the whole piece they had sitting out. They obviously knew that it had gone bad.

Great service and the selection was incredible! I picked up some candied bacon butter and coffee and black pepper rubbed salmon on the weekend and it was the best meal I’ve had this year. The pricing is on par for the quality you are receiving. I can’t wait to go back and pick out my next meal!

I'd give it zero stars if that were possible. The man who served me (I assume he was a manager because he was giving orders to staff) is a prick. He's rude, unpleasant, and I seriously question his cleanliness. I'd say one out of every three experiences at this store have been positive. I will never shop there again. I seriously hope it goes out of business so that it can be replaced by people who actually care about customer service. Selection of meat is average at best. Overall avoid at all costs.

First visit yesterday and we stocked up. My wife and i can honestly say it was the best chicken we have ever had. Yesterday we did some mass cooking - pack of Chicken Breasts, 2 packs of thighs, and a pack of bone in chicken breast (chicken feast!). Everything was just incredible. We had the Salmon and dill patties for lunch, just amazing. Tonight is the main event with 2 Rib Eyes! We also have a meat pie, cabbage rolls and french onion soup later in the week. The staff we're so friendly, good bye Farm Boy meat forever and hello Wellington Butchery once a week.

I have had the: Rib Eye (Delmonico) Steaks, bratwurst sausages/hot Tropic Thunder sausages and the marinated beef burger patties. They are all delicious on the BBQ. Now my go-to-place for great quality meats, reasonable prices and the staff are always helpful! Highly recommend.

I called before hand to see if they had any short ribs that I was looking to braise and they had set a couple aside for me. I went in to pick up the short ribs and a butcher came out from the back to hand them to me. I found it odd that they were in vacuum sealed bags. When I got home and opened the package, the short ribs were rancid. Upon checking the label, they were 2 days past their expiration date. I went back immediately. They cut me some fresh short ribs (not sure why this wasn't done in the first place) and charged me for the few dollar difference between wait, despite having to make an extra trip.

The posted customer limits are in place end enforced by staff most of the time, but it's not uncommon to see them exceeded slightly. Sanitizer is available and signage is prevalent. Plexiglass shields are installed and contactless payments are available. Most staff members are properly masked, however be advised that back of house staff have been observed without masks. This is the only butcher I have frequented that consistently stocks top of the line Australian Wagyu and even Japanese Kobe beef. Additionally, they consistently stock duck breasts, various stocks and other staples. They're the only butcher where when I walk in looking for something, I know it will be in stock. They even remove the silver skin for you from their pork ribs. Bottom line, when you shop here, they have what you want, always. Absolutely the best butcher in Ottawa (and Toronto) end of story.

I went into sasloves's @ wellington the past weekend and despite the fact that they are known for the quality of meats, I did not get the service I was hoping for. both the ladies who serviced me one at the payment and one while selecting the meats were snobbish and did not seem want to address the my questions re: cuts of beef. BAD and DISCRIMINATORTY SERVICE!!!!

First time I've ever been able to walk in to a shop and pick up an isolated brisket point, fully trimmed. Wonderful. Even my Texas BBQ cookbook warns that it can be difficult to source this cut of meat. This is now my default place to buy meat for weekend low-and-slow BBQs.

Ordered my fresh turkey and some other meats and things from Wellington Butchery and picked up morning of December 24th. Drove by twice and a long, long line up. I phoned and they said they would bring it out when I arrived the third time. Absolutely the best service ever. Waited maybe 60 seconds for them to come out with my order, the young lady on the phone was the best representative ever. She sold me far more things than I was ever planning to buy :) The young man that brought out my order apologized for taking so long - it was like 60 seconds. The turkey was excellent and the lamb chops exquisite. Talk about the best and friendliest customer service! This will be my new go to place for meat. Thanks, you made it so easy.

Been a few times. Had great experiences. Staff is great and friendly. Owner is quite the chatterbug but when you are passionate about something it is to be expected. I like yo chat also so it was fun. How many times can you have fun doing errands?? The personal touch is wonderful. As for prices, you pay for what you get. When buying Canadian,local, AAA top tier food it is a bit more than the A grade at large chains. This is my goto place every weekend

I was recently at this butcher shop on the easter weekend. Nothing else was open so I gave it a shot. I ordered 4 filet mignons and 2 T-bone steaks for a total of around 60$. Well to me and my girlfriends surprise (Former butcher) 3 of the filets were rotten and had green on the side with a nice putrid smell. Although I did get my filets back... I would stay clear of this shop. It might mean 50 years of people getting sick.
