One of the best places to buy quality, local, organic meats in the DC area. Consistently better than anything you'll find at Whole Foods, and usually at better prices. And once you get a fresh turkey here, you'll never go back to the factory-farmed birds sold in grocery stores. Also a good place to buy accessories and supplies for the Big Green Egg. (You can also buy the BGE there.)

I was sold a rotten turkey but didn't realize it until I got it home. So 'David' told me to return it for another one. I did and this turkey has a thermometer in it and was partially frozen. I thought they were all fresh and organic. I don't know what I got now. I will never shop here again. This was my first experience there and it was chaotic and a fiasco.

Covid-19 process isn't well thought out as your would think. I had issues with their ordering process which gave me error messages and when I called to be sure I didn't order 3x, they don't have access to what is ordered until the following day. This required me to follow up the next day. Then, came the time to pickup, it is was a mess. If you are trying to avoid crowds and have "contact-less" pickup, you are better off going to a gas station for contact-less delivery of goods than here. They said to text when we got there with a description of the car. We did and waited and waited. Finally, after waiting for a while, I called to confirm if they received my text, the woman answering the phone didn’t even know about our text and asked when we texted. Be sure to specify how many steaks you want. After seeing their regular ordering form says steaks are 14-16oz, I wrote, “2 lbs steaks” in their Covid-19 ordering form process. I thought it will get me 2 steaks, not one steak weighing almost 2 lbs. Also, their grass fed ground beef is not leaner than 93% (the other ground beef that they sell).

Great quality sausages, made in-house; the Merguez is a particular favorite.

They have homemade beef blends. Double check that the seafood is not previously frozen of that is important to you (99% on display was not). They have boar and other unique meats. They carry some organic products and produce to compliment their meats, so your visit can be a one-stop-shop for preparing for a meal. The staff is very friendly and builds great rapport with customers.

Great selection of meats, probably the best I've seen at any butcher in Northern Virginia. Knowledgeable, friendly staff too. I almost knocked off a star for how expensive it is here, but it's understandable given their location so I didn't. They had some elk chops so I got those and mentioned if I ever want more of a certain meat to just call and they can order almost anything.

Terrible service and not for the first time. When I called they said it would take “an hour” for my order of lamb cubes to be ready. I showed up 3 hours later and asked one of the butchers for my order. Without a single word, he paused for a while, turned around, went out the back and returned with an untouched leg of lamb and started cutting it. No apology, no idea of how long it was going to take. It took them a good half hour and the result was very poor. I had asked for cubes with all the fat removed but almost none had been and it took me an hour to do it myself at home. Their stuff is undoubtedly very good but after several experiences like this it’s just not worth it. As it so often does, success has turned into arrogance and a lack of regard for the customer. Will definitely avoid them for a while.

Sticks Forks & Others

Great meats (beef, pork, lamb, chicken, bison, etc.), seafood, eggs, veggies, wine and beer, etc. The place is always crowded, but the people are fantastic and knowledgeable. Parking is limited, but customers are in and out in a beat so not too bad. If you want meat a certain way, just ask for it and they will do it. They'll even grind fresh ground meats if you want it learner. Would recommend wholeheartedly.

The place itself looks nice and cozy. Lots of meats, miscellaneous seasonings and alcohol which pairs with whatever you get. But for these prices employees should definitely provide a better care. Can’t speak for all their staff but Ryan is one of the rudest people I’ve met at customer service. I wasn’t driving there from DC 30 mins just to see him rolling his eyes, sighing and talking to me in inappropriate manner. I was just trying to choose meat, dude, relax. I’ll probably give this place another shot but will avoid being ‘helped’ by Ryan for sure.

I've been shopping here for nearly a decade when I want a special steak or some high quality fish, but I won't be back until operations return to normal. I've ordered their new curbside three times. First time they shorted me over a pound of Halibut. Luckily I hadn't left when I noticed, and called. I was 'assured that it was right, but I was insistent and they came out and fixed the issue (which was obvious) Second order went smoothly. Yesterday's order didn't. My order was for three steaks and three fish filets. Two of the steaks were under weight by 1 ounce (which isn't a huge deal, except that the price difference on their site is $6 per steak when purchasing 8-10 ounce filets versus 10-12 ounce. So seeing as both of these were under 10 ounce steaks, I felt shorted. But that wouldn't be enough for me to leave a negative review. They also forgot the 3rd steak. I called and left a voicemail and texted. Got a call back shortly after, from someone who didn't exactly care about the issue. He offered for me to either pick up a replacement steak for the one they forgot or he'd refund. I went the refund route. He also ignored the fact that they charged me for larger steaks, so all in all I'm out time and $12 plus tax, because under weight isn't a big deal to them apparently. All in all, this place has been great past, but until I can see what I'm paying for, on their counters, I won't be back. I can't trust them to fulfill my order or make it right when they failed to.

So far so good. Ordered items for pick up a couple times now. Everything has been good so far. Tied sausages, meat and wagyu tri tip. Ordered online and picked up at the store. Pick up personnel have been polite each time. Everything has been completed to order without issue thus far. Look forward to trying out other items.

First off, let me say that the service upon picking up this order and the direction was absolutely horrible. Although I concede that I had joined the wrong line, there was absolutely no need for the woman manning the line to yell at me to go to the other line, especially considering the next person did they same thing and they were very politely told to move to the other line. Additionally, why, if my order is ready (and it was most definitely ready as I could see it on the table) did I have to wait until after the people who came to order at the store itself to receive their orders when I had ordered online? Finally, as I am getting ready to prepare dinner for a my mother's birthday, I find out not only was the service horrible at your location, but the order was missing 2 whole ribeyes. 2. Perhaps the employees did not check to see how many of each steak I had ordered, but as you can see on the order receipt, I had ordered 3. I received one. So thank you for ruining my mother's birthday. We spent over $100 at this butcher shop and for that we received horrible service the whole way through. UPDATE: although I do not change my mind that the service we received was unacceptable, I do have to say that was resolved very well by Liz. So thank you very much. I am definitely willing to try this place again

It always crushes me a bit whenever I have to buy meat from somewhere other than here. Awesome selection of high quality meats, plus some organic offerings of veggies and fruit. Nice little beer and wine selection too! They’re a big supporter for local/craft fare as well, so keep your eyes peeled when it comes to products they have on the shelves (honey...seasonings...ice cream...literally anything). It’s hard to not love this Northern VA staple!

I LOVE this place so much! Do you need organic venison to make stew? They've got it. Do you need organic pork fat to make your own lard? They've got it! Do you want Paleo brownies made with fair-trade cocoa? They've got it! This place is a hipster's dream and the only butcher/organic market any foodie in northern VA needs to go to. Can I give this place 10 stars? Because I want to. Plus everyone who works there is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable! I went in to buy some pork and also ended up getting a little movie trivia. 10 out of 5 stars, will shop there again.

Intelligently, they had setup a special entrance and line for preorders. All staff members were exceptional; the duck and ham were indescribably delicious. In place of going out to dinner, we’ve been ordering the steaks, the lobster, and our favorite - the sushi grade tuna - to have date nights and special dinners in. The Organic Butcher has pivoted quickly to offer safe curbside pick up and delivery. It’s been the thing we look forward to most during quarantine! Every once in a while there comes an occasion in which you want the food to be perfect. I hosted one such occasion this week—I made a Beef Wellington for a special birthday. I called The Organic Butcher and requested a châteaubriand for pick up the next day. The size and the cut could not have been more perfect. I had to make no adjustments to the beef. We have been shopping at this butcher shop several times a week for nearly 10 years. Excellent meat and very helpful staff. Special orders, smoked meats, game, etc are never a problem here! If you want something that is not on display, simply ask - if it isn't in the coolers, they can usually order if for you. There is a gourmet grocery store directly across the street, but their meat doesn't even come close to the quality.

Called a couple weeks ago on behalf of my parents wanting to find a place that could get them Shad Roe. This is not a common seafood item to get and has a limited season timeframe. Don was extremely helpful in making sure to keep me in the loop on when their supplier could get them in. Was Friday last week when I was told to call back on Wednesday (yesterday) and same day called me back to come pick it up tomorrow (today). That was very satisfying to me and my folks and when I gave it to my parents; they were overjoyed, said the shad roe was perfectly fresh and are thrilled to have found a new resource for their meat/seafood needs. Would 100% recommend and personally I look forward to trying them out for special cuts of beef etc. that I want. Thank you again to you all for giving excellent service.

Three of us went into the shop not knowing what to expect. We were greeted by someone handing out samples of a delicious MD Cream of Crab. Then we were directed to the sales counter where Wendell was incredibly generous with his time asking us questions and making recommendations on what we should grill tonight. Buyer beware! Buying meat unseen in covid you may end up with subpar quality. We bought mangalitsa pork chops that were on special this week. The picture in email advert looked great while the actual product was anything but. Upon opening the package at home the chops were 80% fat practically no meat on them. Had I seen it upfront I would never chose them. So buy at your own risk.

I had been scouring the tri-state area for some really great pork cheeks, and drove from Maryland to pick some up. Originally, my recipe had called for grilling them, but the person I spoke to over the phone recommended braising—genius! They were so tender and delicious, a new family favorite. I even combined the leftover braising liquid with some shiitake and kombu dashi for the base of a miso soup the next day, and it was amazing. Talk about a knowledgeable staff! I can’t wait to shop here again.

One thing most people do not know is that they have the best baguettes in McLean. Order ahead during the pandemic if you want a large amount. They have no problem with supply as their suppliers make most of their money selling to now closed restauants.
