The most fresh, delectable lamb chops ????
In a word: bandsaw.
My favorite butcher of all times. I have a senior dog who’s so picky and has the most sensitive tummy so he’s been eating home cook diet for over a decade. It’s always a struggle to source fresh bones for homemade bone broth and super lean meat for my senior dog, until I found The Meat Hook. We’d come in for a big batch since covid era begun, and every single person in the shop was so helpful and kind, my somewhat strange requests were always fulfilled with the best quality meat for reasonable price. That was our routine every week until we moved away to LA. Found another butcher in LA that also do whole-animal-style (Electric City Butcher), but the new shop has never come close to the quality and the price from The Meat Hook. Maybe we will make a move back to BK as TMH continues to stand as the strongest option (high quality yummy food is important to us to be happy). Keep up the great work TMH team!
This place is fantastic! Their dry aged burgers are insanely delicious and their delmonicos are great as well. Awesome grocery selection as well! I picked up a massive ribeye from here and while epically delicious, I wish there was an option for 'grass fed , corn-finished' beef here to avoid the slighty chewier texture of grass fed beef, which I've grown to dislike and prefer a hybrid option which many butcher shops carry. I will be back!
The first time I was there the staff were hauling hogs cut in half in through the front door. Great food. Nice people. They also carry Black Seed bagels.
Ribeye is overpriced and chewy. A far cry from what you get from Whole Foods for half the price. Also employees have a bit of an attitude. I really wanted to like this place, but no. Hard pass!
Been going to this local butcher shop since they were in the back of a grocer and I have loved, even more, going to there new shop. I love the meats, so having a great butcher shop with really solid prices is key. Meat Hook is the best. I've been in a few dozen times and they always deliver, no matter who I'm talking too, always super knowledge and friendly! I've really appreciated the addition of bone broth in the colder months (if you've never had it, think super rich savory soup broth deliciousness) Last visit I got a big steak for me and my lady and was really happy with the flavor. It was a dry aged porterhouse and although I've been in a lot this maybe was the first time I've sprung for the "top shelf" meats and I must say it will have to be a more regular thing now that I've experienced it. Favorite butcher shop hands down. If you haven't tried it yet and love the meats it's about time you step up to the counter and give it a go.
Helpful staff, super delicious, very ethical meat.
Huge variety of unique and intensely flavorful meats.
This is an incredible meat wonderland. Seam butchery at it's best. Watching the butchers delicately find the tastiest parts and cutting to order it's what you hope for in a great shop. I've done 2 of the daily sandwiches and the angels sang with every bite. I take a stick of homemade jerky with me as I walk back to the office as my stomach grumbles for the goodies awaiting in my brown paper bag.
Top notch quality meats grown local (NY state), organic and sustainably raised, and butchered fresh to your preference on-site. Prices are on higher side for me but the quality is well worth the extra couple of dollars once you take that first bite. Pre-prepared goods from their kitchen include chicken and beef stocks, and an array of tasty packaged sausages. They stock a small selection of locally grown vegetables, primarily greens and tubers. Also offer a nice spread of specialty cheeses. Extremely courteous staff and owners. Obvious they sincerely appreciate the support of their small business operation. They host BBQ's in their backyard in the Spring and Summer, providing a fun and delicious, and way to informally meet new neighbors.
Old school butcher shop with incredibly fresh produce great bread, cheeses, and raw bones available for the pups.
Best sausage around. Perfect blend of spices and the meat is all organic and grass fed. Excellent and friendly service too.
Great place! Fresh meats and produce.
Great spot with high quality ingredients. Expensive, but never disappoints. This place also sells bones for broth making.
Everything that I've purchased from The Meat Hook has been top quality, and most importantly, what I make with what I buy tastes great. There is no comparison with the chickens that they get. Forget Whole Foods organic chicken. You'll have the most tender, juicy, delicious chicken dinner. Their bacon, pork and beef products are all top quality. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 isn't food related. Their shop is in Williamsburg which is prime rate real estate, which makes the prices here high. In my opinion, too high, but, that's not a food complaint. The butchers there are knowledgeable and friendly, and I always am happy that I made the trip.
Probably the best butcher in NYC
The BEST place to buy meat in bk (and possibly all of nyc?). From the moment ya walk in to checkout, all the staff are extremely friendly. I’d give it 6/5 stars if I could!
Their sausages and chicken are always top notch. Pricey, but you're ensured high quality ingredients. My go-to for special occasion cooking.
You get way you pay for. Top notch proteins, knowledgeable and cool staff, and the produce is actually super affordable. Can't really beat the quality in NYC.
Best butcher in town
Yes...good meat from local farms. Best known for unusual flavored sausages that are unusually delicious like cheeseburger and bahn mi. A little pricy, but worth it for the quality of the ingredients, which come from local farms.
First time here great service
The Meat Hook is a top quality butcher shop, nestled in the back of the Brooklyn Kitchen. The handmade jalapeno sausage and lamb sausage I buy in this store have no equal in terms of proper balance, flavor and just the right amount of fat. Bonus Tip: The Meat Hook is not very large so shop early or order in advance to get what you need.
I don't know where they are getting these chickens from, but they taste better than any chicken you can get at the supermarket.
I've gone to the Meat Hook a couple of times. I always walk out with really cool cuts of meat, sausages and kitchen items. The staff is very friendly and it's definitely worth the trek.
Steaks and pork on pointe. Also, try their pimento cheese.
Great sandwiches and meat selections. Bring back the roast beef sandwich!
Always an amazing experience!
Excellent butcher shop. Chicken liver mousse is to die for
Amazing choice of meats and best quality. I was going to a farm to get my chicken. Since i found this place i look no further.. The staff is also so amazing, they assist you and are very honest. Ill come back to this place again and again..
Excellent service. They take the time to address your needs and your budget. As a first time visitor I walked out very satisfied with my purchase.
Our go to place for delicious, nutritious and feel good about our purchase meats because we trust their quality! Have not found another butcher bar that compares in terms of careful attention to handling of the meat products. Also, love their produce section. Always find seasonal locally sourced and organic veggies and fruits.
The best meat store in East Williamsburg. They carry an outstanding selection of organic/ grass fed / humanely raised meats. You can also an $8 sandwich of the day prepared at the Lorimer location. The store has a cool decor and personalities.
The Meat Hook is very, very interesting. They truly have a passion for meat, and it shows. When I'm at Brooklyn Kitchen, it's interesting to stop by and see what they've come up with. HOWEVER somebody needs to call foul on all this "prices are a little high" business. They have, for instance, three kinds of bacon. The cheapest is $17 a pound. Now, maybe this is just me, but I'll see this and say, "Wow, that bacon must be really good -- though it looks kind of old and fatty." And then I'll think that people around here must be billionaires, and I'll go to a regular store and buy Oscar Meyer. If you buy into this "locavore" "nose-to-tail" stuff, this might be worth it for you. But I question a movement that offers a verrrrry small benefit for SUCH a ridiculous cost. As I say, it's interesting to watch, but count me in with the non-trust-fund-hipsters who don't have money to burn, thanks.
So... have you ever wondered where the heck your favorite steak cut comes from? Or what REALLY is in that sausage? Maybe you just don't know what the eff to do with a whole chicken. The men and women behind that counter? They can help. I can throw ANY question at them and get an informative, entertaining response. Don't let the hipster vibe intimidate ya, these people know their meat and want to spread the joy of yummy flesh to all. The meat, veggie and dairy prices can seem a bit high, but everything is fresh fresh fresh and I trust their source.
Meat Hook ... you are everything in my life. Seriously ... you provide all of the meat that I'll eat. Because the first time I came into the butcher shop, I explained that I was totally wigged out by the American meat process and had recently gone vegan because I was totally grossed out. I also explained that I really missed meat and cheese and wanted to know if you could tell me where your meat and cheese came from and whether or not it was produced humanely and cleanly. Surprise! You do both. You showed me slideshows of the farms, pictures of the farmers, you were really nice about it, too. I'm a Meat Hook shopper for life now. Yum.
rillet, their duck confit, their whole chicken, their huge pork chops, pork tenderloins. Virtually a guaranteed fabulous dinner. Red wine & rosemary sausage is my favorite.
Best butcher in town with excellent selection of a variety of meats from local farms raised in a sustainable way without any hormones and antibiotics. Additionally, features exceptional seasonal produce from organic local farms. Reliable to satisfy your meat and produce needs all year round.
Great meat, OUTSTANDING customer service
Two words: encased meats.
I used to love your establishment. However over the last few months I have bought meat that has gone bad several times after purchasing it the previous day. Unfortunately it turned me off from pork belly for a bit. Meat should not go bad 3 days tops of purchase for the price we pay here. My final draw was the ham I bought turned brown on day two. Super down about this.
Great shop with mouthwatering selection of meats and sausages, including related products such as fats and broths. Also a good range of fresh organic produce and pickles/jams etc. The interior is tastefully laid out, full of natural light, and as tempting as can be. When optimizing for quality and taste (as oppose to budget), this is the ideal place to shop.
I made the best burger I have ever eaten with ground beef from The Meat Hook. The beef tastes exponentially better than any ground beef you could ever find!
Can you please list accurate hours? Just pretty far out of my way after work to get to a closed shop
The best butcher and people. They make the neighborhood.
Great spot; helpful crew, delicious meat and amazing sausages.
All the grassfed high quality beefs and other organic produce you could want, given the rather small size. Craft butchery dont come cheap, but you'll truly enjoy what you eat.
Great customer service, meats and sausage.
Everytime we come here, we have to prevent ourselves from buying too much. We came to meat hook to purchase some fresh ground beef when we hosted a BBQ. We wanted to duplicate the burgers we love from Shake Shack and came here to buy some meat. The burger was a hit and we knew it was because of the quality of meat. Always check in on their seasonal specials since they source their meat from local farms and therefore, there's always some limited quantity meat parts from cow, lamb or pork in the house.
Fantastic butcher with good counter service. Their stocks are good too.
Called twice to pre-order something for a very important event. Both times assured it was taken care of no problem and both times my order was not fulfilled/specially made. Thank goodness I had a back-up plan for both (Fosters Sundry in Bushwick is the best). People working there in person were rude and didn't apologize. One time, fine I get it people forget. The second time was shame on me. Will not be going back. Do not recommend.
Amazing team at The Meat Hook! They value their customers and have a wonderful selection of fair trade spices, house-made stocks, sausages and (most importantly) a wide selection of beautiful cuts of meat. Their produce also keeps with their approach; I felt like I was at a farm stand in the heart of Williamsburg/Greenpoint. Indisputable quality and will go back anytime.
One of the best country pate I have had.
How can you go wrong with a staple in the neighborhood bringing you the freshest meats and real life stories all together
Super helpful and expert butchers. An excellent, curated selection of local, artisanal and American-classic provisions. Local produce. The best meats in North Brooklyn!
rip and tear until it is done
Great butcher shop.
Excellent Sausage and meats! Super friendly. Even have best doggie treats!
Very expensive but they have a few thing that really are worth the price
I stopped in here today to pick up a steak for my carnivorous sweetheart and the gentlemen working here were so helpful. Very friendly and knowledgeable. The quality of the meat was perfect (.6lbs filet mignon) and the service was excellent. It smelled perfectly fresh and clean in the store. Not bleach. Just CLEAN. Their meat is sustainably and humanely raised and if I (a vegetarian) enjoy shopping here, it must be good. Edit: the "original gangster jerky" that was purchased for a said sweethearts flight was a huge hit!!
That place is amazing, the quality of everything was outstanding! Be prepared to spend some money but its totally worth it.
I feel like a kid in a candy store whenever I go here. They curate some of the most unique an interesting flavors in meat and ingredients you’d want to put on your meat.
First off what an amazing place! Feels like a step back in time, but in a great way. Place is spotless and following all covid protocols. The butchers behind the counter are super friendly and willing to help in any way. The guy who helped me out explained the whole process about their deli cuts I was purchasing and was super patient when it came to deciding what I wanted which was super difficult because there were so many great options!! Seems like there are a lot of returning customers from just what I overheard and I definitely see why. Fresh produce, farm to table eggs and dairy products. Great great find. Oh and their green Mexican chorizo. Out of this world! Best I’ve had outside of Toluca, Mexico!! Thanks everyone at the meat hook for a great experience and great quality food!
Amazing butcher shop and kitchen supply store. A wide variety of meats, sausages, stocks (including pork, duck, etc.), fats (duck, lard, etc.), and local produce. They also have local cheeses, eggs, and dairy products. Note that it's also crazy Hipster, both in the workforce and in the clientele. :)
My favorite butcher shop. Not only are the meats top quality, but the atmosphere is intoxicating. I love going here because you automatically feel at home -- that is super important for any business but this especially makes me excited to go here! All the meats are great but I especially love the chicken and steaks. They also have this great buffalo chicken dip ever now and then, try it!
The Meat Hook ALWAYS has the most amazing meats and in-house sausages. The butchers are super helpful and ready to answer any questions you may have and point you in the right direction. And on top of all that, they have beautiful, seasonal, local, organic produce. After living in Arkansas, where I was spoiled by the availability of farm fresh food, coming to New York, where it's a little hard to come by, was a bit of a culture shock. We are so glad to have The Meat Hook in our neighborhood and literally don't know what we would do without it.
Absolutely love this place. I wish I could give them more than five stars. They always have the best cuts of meat, all the staff is extremely well informed and one time I cut myself on one of their knives and they cleaned it and helped me out! Super sweet staff. Would recommend everything on the menu, I've ordered plenty from them. *Edit* They've moved and I found out that they were just renting the space from Brooklyn Kitchen which has the meats. I visited their new location and it's really not so awesome. Reduced the review by 2 stars. Sorry guys :(
Overpriced, and poor service. I prefer to support the friendly, neighborhood butcher who has been there for decades, located right across the street.
The best butcher for miles.
Spent $40 on a tough, chewy and tasteless ribeye.
Best sausages ever. The steaks were also really good, even had picanha!
For those unfamiliar: this is not the Meat Hook sandwich shop, which was in a different location and is now closed. They consolidated. You can still grab sandwiches here, but the selection is more limited, and there isn't a fryer (so no fried chicken). As far as the butcher shop selection here is great. The Meat Hook is always a great place to grab some sausages. (If you ever get a chance to try the chicken coconut curry sausages, do so.)
*Don't confuse this with the Meat Hook Sandwich shop down the street* Great butcher shop, always a good selection. As a bonus, it's attached to Brooklyn Kitchen that has lots of fun and fancy supplies. They offer cooking classes almost every night too if you're looking for a fun event with drinks!
This is a very fun store to visit if you are a fan of cooking or baking. There is a ton of kitchen equipment that can't be found in a normal chain store. They carry high end brands if you want quality. The meat offered by their butcher is "artisan" and of high quality also. I would stay away from the vegetables however because as fresh and local as they are, it is not worth the price.
Nice small food shop with high quality curated selection of veggies, condiments, and meats. They are best know for their meats, that is their focus as their name implies. Worth the visit as well if you are just looking for tasty veggies.
Great meat AND produce to complete the meal. Excellent helpful service as well.
Don’t sleep on the chicken! I’ve tried their whole birds and their chicken breast. Absolutely delicious
Enjoyed my experience shopping there. Bright, well-lit, well laid out.
Great selection of meats and other gourmandia to build a delectable feast. Butchers are knowledgeable and happy to share their insights in how to best prepare your choices.
Bought to ribeyes for about $80. They were tasteless and tough and I have had a lot experience cooking steak. They were not over cooked at all and were seasoned properly. This place is just a total rip-off and I doubt that they were dry aged. Really disappointing. I really don’t understand how dry aged steak could be so bad, but if you want to refund the $80 I spent I’ll give you another shot.
Holy cow, great organic top-notch meat selection, grocery, produce second-to-none, reminds me of Bi-Rite in San Francisco, fantastic beers. Very expensive, but worth it. Very good customer service. Always a rare treat! Thank you!
First let me start by saying the meat and produce is top quality...However I don't think I can recall a time when I've been more appalled at the lack of respect and humility amongst the employees of an establishment. There was a long line to get in which my friend and I patiently waited in- to be then rushed once we were inside (the butcher could not have been more unhelpful in picking the right cut of steak) Once I went to checkout the cashier was speaking to me as if I was just an annoying burden to her- I was so shocked and profusely said thank you to absolutely no response. Bottom line: I dont write reviews, EVER. But if a place demonstrates a clear lack of respect to its CUSTOMERS, I feel completely obliged to let it be known.
I ordered 2.5 lbs of lamb stew meat yesterday and ended up getting a literal pound of fat. This is completely unacceptable. $40 for this ?!!?! This really ruined my recipe, I am so disappointed.
best place to get your meat on
The owner is very unprofessional. Low quality meat and unethical behavior. They are nice only when you buy from them. The min you ask for some kind of customer service or any other issue, they will make you feel like peace of sh333t. I have never posted any review. But I had to write. I feel bad for writing my first review and is negative. I wish i could say something better.
This place is awesome! They have pasture raised ????. The best!!
Incredible meat from the best farms in the region prepared by world-class butchers with the friendliest attitudes around.
Finest quality meat you'll find in the tri state area ... Try their lamb bacon, lamb belly, and dry aged steak.
Came in on Sunday randomly wanted to treat myself that evening after a long day at work to a good steak. The dudes at the meat counter and front counter were super cool and patient with me and carved up my oyster steak perfectly and it was AMAZING. Definetly will be back. They have a great beer selection aswell and fresh veggies.
Over priced. The owner is little rude. It is hard for me to write bad feedback. If you look at my feedback history, In my lifetime I wrote only 2 other negative feedback. I had $30.00 credit for a transaction. When I arrived and mentioned the credit, the girl on the register called a number, most likely the owner. The owner told the girl to tell me that they do not do the discount and inferred that I was trying to get product deceitfully. Did not even tried to find the facts why there was $30.00 credit. I told the cashier that it is ok and I will pay. I paid in full and walked out. NEVER COMING BACK AND TELLING ALL MY FAMILY AND FREINDS NOT TO COME BACK. IT IS HARD TO SUPPORT A LOCAL BUSINESS WHEN THE OWNER IS IGNRAANT.
Nice butcher shop selling some basic and niche accompaniments like hot sauces and beer.
Fair and fantastic service.
The store and shopping are straightforward and simple which is very appreciated. Unfortunately the two T-bone steaks I bought this weekend were very disappointing. Maybe it's a supply issue due to Covid-19 however for the premium they charge I would have expected much better. The steaks were seared using canola oil and butter basted until 130, removed from heat, aluminum foil tented and somehow they were the toughest steaks I've had. While there may be some variability in grass fed there should be a minimum, especially when they are charging over $20 per pound.
Great place for some beautiful fresh meat it's a little pricey but good quality
This place has it all - meat, eggs, cheese, milk, bread, vegetables, sauces, beer, and a bunch of other things I wouldn't expect (especially things for your grill). And it's all great quality. Also, the staff are extremely friendly. Very pleased to have this place in the neighborhood.
(Translated) michael, sunny cut / packed meat for me (Original) michael, sunny rezali/pakirali meso za mene
Trendy but rather nice shop. However, Kielbasa is just the general name for Polish sausage. So my question is, which one is it that you sell?
Exceptionally inefficient checkout but terrific selection of delicious items and friendly staff
