The Healthy Butcher just continues to disappoint. I made an order for a Thanksgiving Turkey, to be picked up on the Sunday. Given a few size ranges to chose from, I selected a grassfed 13-17 lbs turkey. My surprise was when I went to pick it up on Sunday and I was told that the birds were a bit bigger than expected. The one they had for me was 24-27 lbs. Are you serious? How does a bird size double without noticing? and most importantly, why did no-one communicated this to buyers? (I don't think many ovens downtown fit a 27lb turkey) Every time I go back I leave with a feeling of disappointment - food may be good, but the customer service is just not there. Good thing I can just head to Cumbrae's a couple blocks away and get top notch quality and great service.

My daughters look forward to fish Wednesdays because they love the rainbow trout, halibut and tilapia as it's always consistently so, so good. The people are also the nicest, most informed and professional staff I have ever encountered in a grocery store.

Off the bat, this shop holds a pretty price tag. And though this rings true for nearly all items in stock they carry the freshest meat around the block. Easy to eye some tasty spices, sauces, marinades, spreads, and dips from the counter. Bakery goods and snacks are also sold here, sometimes at a markdown for quick sale. They have all the makings to help perfect your next barbeque, or put a flavourful spin on the dinner table for tonight. A major bonus for the always friendly service.

09MAY2015 Very nice folks. I purchased a Shun chef's knife there today and it was a good shopping experience. I'm from out of town and walked down from our hotel after checking out their website. I didn't get the young lady's name who helped me out but she took quite a bit of time to get the info on the knives I was looking for. If I was local I would shop here regularly. Check them out.

Excellent products and an easy to use online service. I just purchase what I want online and go pick it up on an assigned day. I was recommended to the Healthy Butcher by a friend and ever since then, it has been a staple in my regular grocery buying rotation. I myself have already recommended it to others. One a side note: Definitely check out their roasted walnut oil. It's my newest favourite thing!

I think it's good to know where your food comes from, and to support the people providing you with clean and sustainable foods. Not to mention the meats here are delicious. It's weird to say but it just tastes better than grocery store meat. You might be put off by the price. But I feel that the quality and the initiative is worth it. These animals aren't raised in confinement and misery. It's better for them, better for the farmer, better for small business, and better for you, in my opinion. I would recommend these guys. They're also very friendly. Often they give me some fresh herbs for free at check out which is just so sweet. ☺️ They also have tons of spices, rubs, broths, and other accoutrement for meat and dinner prep. Check em out if you're nearby!

Quite disappointed. I came all the way from Oakville to get beef bones, organic chicken wings and halibut. They didn't have any. From fish, there was only salmon and haddock. I was told "it's Superbowl" and they're out of product. I ended up buying few items regardless, but obviously wasn't a very happy customer.

Just had an unpleasant experience with the 565 Queen West location. I placed an order for two lamb heads over two weeks ago. They told me it would take about a week to arrive. The following week I called in to find out that the order had not arrived and was told to check back after one week which I did yesterday and they left me a voice mail message later yesterday notifying me that the order was ready to be picked up. I dropped by the store just now and told the clerk that I am picking up an order for 2 lamb heads. She checked the back and told me they have none in stock and they could take my order, now! For the love of God what is wrong with people. I asked her please to take a second look as I even have a recorded message from her staff to come pick up my order and she took that second look and gave me my order. I have anxiety and when I'm told that they didn't have my order after they told me that they did and I have proof of that is absolutely unprofessional in my opinion and shot my anxiety real high. I will continue to give them 4 stars for this review as I know how bad reviews can hurt a business so I chose to meet them half way with a mixed review.

Great customer service at the store I go here for the halal wagyu and halal venison grass fed from NZ Both being a rarity in Canada as the canadian AAA is grain fed They have more options online than in store. Only Wish they delivered in durham save me the trip from Oshawa The wagyu briskets pre trimmed and vacuum sealed which saves on prep time Wagyu brisket time of this review is $28.32 /kg

I have been a customer of the Healthy Butcher, Queen Street location, for many years. Whether by phone or in person, the staff I’ve dealt with are always friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. I often ask for unusual cuts or offal and they always come through. If it’s not available, they order it and call me when it’s in. They know the provenance of all their products, explain cuts and cooking menthods. This butcher shop has true integrity.

I placed an order for Christmas dinner with family and it was not the traditional turkey. I was called three times to provide detailed information which I neglected to give on the phone when placing the order. I am a vegetarian and not sure of the quantity required. They took the time to ask the questions to determine the cut required and the amount necessary. The Healthy Butcher goes out of its way to ensure that their clients receive what they have requested. A very patient gentleman asked if I had any questions and I had a million, as I haven't eaten meat in many years and am pretty clueless with respect to cuts. What I did know was that I wanted 100% grass-fed, grass-finished beef and he helped me choose a great option after providing me a ton of information to compare a number of choices. Great service, very professional, beyond patient, decent prices and an amazing selection of top-quality meat and other foods. High quality cuts of beef, chicken, lamb, pork, and seafood sourced from Ontario's best agriculture. Selection is extensive, with every cut you can imagine. Impress your guests with something different such as Bison, Venison, or Paleo sausages. Facilities are clean and organized with a wide selection of accompaniments for the perfect meal. Staff are knowledgeable and accommodating, which is the competitive edge for this location over its local competition. If you do not see something you want, just ask, you will likely be surprised with what you get. I have asked for a single cut of lamb not present in the display case. The associate went behind the counter and prepared a single cut, costing only $7. They even threw in some garden fresh herbs, accurately paired with my selected cut, free of charge! This sets the bar for customer service. The Healthy Butcher is part of my essential grocery routine. If standards are upheld, I see it staying this way for a long time.

This place has the worst online order fulfillment I've encountered, as well as the worst customer service ever - understandably these are unprecedented times, but that's true for everyone, and if you are trying to get groceries and cannot go outside still, I would avoid this place. I placed an order on the website, which had misleading communication - I couldn't tell if it was just pickup from stores or pickup from stores AND penguin pickup locations that were unavailable (this wording has since been changed, though if it's unavailable your web technician should just remove the option). I got an email from the healthy butcher with a smaller window confirming the delivery to penguin pickup, but when I went - nothing. Not to mention, the people at penguin were not wearing masks, so I ventured out and put myself at risk due to a miscommunication. No one answered or responded to my message on their customer services - and when I emailed instead, three people in their team responded, with slightly varying replies. I tried to place the order again for a delivery date, and instead of any sort of notification that it wouldn't be delivered within that day... nothing. I'm still waiting to see if there's an explanation for this. Side note, for previous orders, the deliverer dropped our order in front of our apartment door, despite very obvious signs that all deliveries should be dropped at the concierge due to covid related concerns.

I love your store because of your selection of grass fed and pastured meats and because I can get the roasts I buy cubed to half inch pieces. A couple of times I sensed an unwillingness to provide this service and almost wished you charged a fee for it, but mostly the staff have been very obliging. I'm a wheelchair user and have to use two buses to get to your store, but I still favor it to any other store for meats.

I bought packaged baby back ribs today. The package date was 3 days ago which should be fine but when I opened it a foul smell emerged. I am familiar with pork meat smell, my grandparents had a farm and I've never experienced such a thing. I read other reviews and they all seemed positive. Which only adds to my surprise and complete disappointment as this meat was bad. My kitchen still stinks from this meat.

Healthy Butcher the quality of their meat and customer service is excellent. The major issue is they do NOT accept cash. It has already been proven Covid does not stick to money plus a high percentage of Ontario residents have been vaccinated. Not everyone wants to pay via debit or credit card. There are other quality butchers that charge less than Healthy Butcher like Royal Meats at Woodbine and Danforth and they accept cash. While ultimately its your decision as a business but if this practice continues I'll take my business elsewhere. I sincerely doubt you care or anyone else but yeah, it's not cool especially when I was buying for a family member and since I can't take their credit card with me I thought logically by now the cash covid bs would be over. I guess not..

This is one of my absolute favourite places to go. The food quality and selection is excellent. I absolutely love their grassfed waygu beef from New Zealand (Specifically the baseball cut which their butcher recommended to me years ago or I wouldn't have even known it existed)! Anytime I feed it to guests they absolutely love it! It's my guaranteed-win if I'm trying to impress or make someone feel very special when cooking for them. I also love their organic boneless chicken, the lamb loin chops, the butterfly pork chops, and OMG if you like bacon, be prepared for the best bacon of your life (their signature bacon). They also have the best store brand "Steak Spice" and a really yummy "Chicken & Rib" seasoning. The advice they give is so detailed and helpful if you see something new you want to try cooking but don't really know what it goes well with or the best way to cook it. The atmosphere has a cute community feel that almost feels like you're going back in time, and the staff are all so friendly. I've been a happy customer for nearly 5 years, and I'm always recommending them.

We've been customers for years and the quality of meat and customer service is excellent. Try their house made sausages and burgers and get the rabbit when it's available. A variety of non standard cuts are offered; like lamb neck, hangar steak, and they will accommodate orders for most anything (e.g. pig head, trotters). Their organic dry aged meat is excellent and they are very accommodating with custom cuts. My only disappointment is that there is increasingly less of their dry aged meat available. New Zealand imports now take up a lot of shelf space.

Very over priced compared to other naturally healthy and Organic shop's. The staff are rude, especially the elderly woman who works behind the counter. Don't buy the frozen fish as an employee told me they try to sell it before it expires and then freeze it. At the same price. How do they get away trying to sell poultry not refrigerated, sitting on top of a counter. I would rather shop at the Big Carrot or St.Lawernce Market or Kennsington Market, but to be fair they do make excellent Sausages, but the price is high, like 2 Sausages for over $11.75.

I could not be happier with my experiences at Healthy Butcher (Queen st location). Two things that stand out for me: the quality of meat/products available and the ease of purchasing. As someone who is not super knowledgeable on cuts of meat, it is important to me that there are approachable staff members who can help me. The online ordering tool is also the best - I was able to pre-plan my purchase and was even emailed the day of pickup with specifics on the cut of meat I was coming in for!

I experienced really bad customer service in your store today at around 6pm. Because of COVID-19, they only let 4 people in the store at a time. I gladly waited outside the store with my sister and friend. A woman walked out after finishing her shopping so I let my friend go ahead. Soon after, another customer arrived and waited for her turn seeing the sign that only 4 people could be inside. Just after 3 minutes, to my surprise, the person passed us and walked in the store being the 5th person inside. When another customer walked out after shopping, I walked inside and a sales man in a denim button down and baseball cap stopped me and said that only 4 people are allowed at a time. The person who cut in line was just starting to shop so I told him that she cut in line and that I had been waiting outside for a long time. All he said was “well then you’ll still have to wait outside” in a dismissive way. He didn’t let the person who cut in line out and made me walk out instead, which I found totally unfair since I am also a paying customer who was waiting outside for my turn. When another customer left, I walked in and said that I had been waiting outside and asked why didn’t he let the person who cut out and instead let me out. All he said with his arms out was “well, then now you can shop”. I found it very condescending and it showed poor customer service. I frequent this store to buy oceanwise seafood but it’s unfortunate how a store you’d want to support has staff with poor customer service who would make you not want to go back.

Got a roast from here yesterday (pictured), probably the best piece of beef I've eaten and I'm from Alberta so that's saying something. The fat on top once seared gave an amazing buttery flavor. Thanks Healthy Butcher!
