Synopsis: A huge bone chip in my ground beef broke my temporary filling (and would have had seriously impactions had my 3 year old gotten it) and they're response was dismissive and literally nothing than "that happens sometimes". A nearly 1/2 piece of bone in their ground beef broke my crown. The fragments in the rest of the burger show it went through their equipment. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt so I brought the bone chip into their sure. I spoke to Dustin, the manager, said "that happens sometimes". Honestly, I expected a far more conciliatory tone. My three year old would have likely suffered seriously consequences. Even sure making that point, Dustin seemed to doubt my authenticity despite looking up the transaction and verifying what I had told him. He looked up the transaction from Sunday where my Dad bought the meat. He verified everything. Nothing about his behavior seemed anything other than dismissive and doubting my authenticity. I tried to avoid having to blast here. But Dustin had anything but a conciliatory response. He minimized the situation saying that bone fragments are unavoidable. That is a completely irresponsible attitude. Half inch bone chunks shouldn't "just happen". My grandfather was a butcher. I'm proud of those who are trying to revive neighborhood anchors like this place. But he would have never left this on the customer and would have at least had some kind of conciliatory response.

A real butcher, not a seller of the usual criovac-ed junk that passes for a butcher shop in most Columbus meat stores these days. They butcher their own meat and have many hard to find Brazilian cuts. I used to have to travel to Cincinnati to get meat this good. Plus a small but well selected cheese section that is reasonably priced.

Best Steak Ever from The Butcher & Grocer in Grandview! I have been looking for a picanha cut steak to grill at home for some time. This is the cut popular in Brazil and at Brazilian steak houses. It is the rump cap and has a nice cover of fat which keeps it moist while cooking. I recently visited The Butcher & Grocer in Grandview and was pleased to see such a huge selection of local meat without hormones or antibiotics. To my delight they also had picanha cut steaks. I purchased a nice 1.5 pound steak perfect for grilling. I scored the fat cover and salted both sides and then seared both sides on the grill for 3 minutes each before moving the steak to indirect heat. About 35 minutes later it was done! Best steak I have ever had. I highly recommend the meat from The Butcher & Grocer!!

The go-to butcher for Ohio-raised grass-fed retail meats and eggs, plus local and regional cheeses and charcuterie. You might suffer from sticker shock at the prices if you're used to cheap meat; quality doesn't come cheap. You'll frequently find the owner behind the counter, and it's obvious that he listens to your needs. I went in looking for uncured bacon one trip, which he didn't have. A week later, uncured bacon was available in the display. Call ahead for special requests, and they will try to grant them. A lot of things are possible since they butcher the carcass in the store rather than stock meat cuts from a processing plant. They carry offal, just ask or call ahead.

Just love this place. Incredible products and great service, what more could you want? We moved out of the area (25 minutes)but still go back twice a month to stock up. Our pup loves the smoked bones so much he cries in happiness when we bring one home. Try the Denver steak, or Nashville hot chicken sausage...grab a whole bird to smoke..and get some green chorizo to make a yummy breakfast hash!

Let me tell you a tale of the adventure that was seeking out, procuring, and consuming the gold standard of 100% pure beef deliciousness. What started as a simple ‘trip to the butcher’ began as just that. My traveling companion and I had heard of this little shop in Grandview and figured we’d give ‘er the old “college try”. As such, we embarked on our journey. First stop: Luck Bros Coffee house (also excellent if you’ve not tried it.) Then came the main event. The beef/pork/chicken equivalent of El Dorado. The Pinnacle of Picanha. We were greeted by an exceedingly friendly staff who was quick to retrieve whatever our hearts desired. For me: 1 pound of delicious bacon, 4 fresh sausages, and 2 2” Ribeyes custom cut to order. Whilst the meats were prepped for the journey to my fridge however, we were treated to a tasting of some of the most delicious cheeses (one of which being a 30 year old Austailian Cheddar, which was heavenly.) Bacon: thick, meaty, and well-cured. 5/7 Sausages: Fresh, fragrant, and well-seasoned. 6/7 Steak: 1 cooked for 10 hours in a sous vide before a hard dear anf butter baste, 1 reverse-seared to a perfect med rare. 10/10, words cannot describe the experience as a whole. Overall, the conquest was victorious and the outcome was one to remember. I will be visiting again in the very near future to see what other culinary techniques I can use to ingest inappropriate amounts of cured, smoked, or grilled meats. This is a must-stop. Seriously.

Planning for a special meal next month, I discovered this place while looking for a smoked beef tongue, something that is apparently much less common now than it was when I was a kid in the 70s. Noone in town carries them, but as soon as I asked the wonderful folks at The Butcher & Grocer offered to try to make one for me! They did a test run, and I dropped in to see how it came out. While it looked beautiful, they thought it was not as good as it could be, but they knew what to do to make it perfect and would make another one. I love that they are so concerned with the quality of what they put out into the world. As for what you will find already in their counter, they have some of the most beautiful cuts of meat I've ever seen, a variety of intriguing housemade sausages to choose from, as well as a wonderful but not overwhelming selection of cured and smoked meats. I picked up some of their "Smoking Goose Capicola" and it is (no exadgeration here, I swear) the very best spicy capicola I've ever had! It starts out sweet with just a hint of the spice and a smokey canvas of hammy deliciousness, and then the heat builds in a glorious swell of warm savory joy. Seriously folks, please check this place out. They have some of the most beautiful cuts of meat I've ever seen, and they'll go out of the way to make you happy.

This place is amazing. The staff is super friendly and very knowledgeable. They have a great selection of cheeses and some unique spreads and other items for charcuterie. Lots of cuts of beef that I have never seen before and the charcutrie from the Hungarian Butcher are awesome. My wife and I also buy the cabbage rolls every week. They come in Saturday and are normally sold out by Sunday.

Fantastic place and much easier to get to than say North Market. I also love driving through Grandview so thats a huge plus in my book. Staff is helpful, friendly and inviting. And the meat here is phenomenal, way better than anything you could ever get at a Whole Foods or any other chain grocer. For me the biggest thing that sets this place above most others is the quality of the fat in the meat. I’ve only been here once and purchased some bacon and a half slab of spare ribs along with some andouille sausage. But the fat on the ribs was like something I’ve never had before, it was such a melt in your mouth experience that it was almost like eating soft butter. I don’t even think I’ve gotten that from Ray Rays and I’ve always thought of them as one of the best places for ribs in Columbus. The bacon had a really deep smoke flavor and I hope thats from actual smoke (and not that liquid stuff) but it honestly doesn’t matter because it was that dang good. Most likely going to make this place my go-to for meats. Looking forward to trying the charcuterie as well! Give this place a try!

What a wonderful find! I'm terribly MSG sensitive and travel for a living so finding good clean food is a constant challenge. Most grocery store and butcher shop meats are contaminated with hidden MSG from chemical-filled packing brines, commercial spice blends and contaminated prep surfaces. NOT HERE. The meats come from the cleanest, most ethical farms in the Columbus area, non gmo, grass fed, etc, etc, and there's no middle man packing plant to contaminate the meats. I've tried all their house-made sausages, a wide variety of their beef, lamb, pork and chicken and none have triggered my allergy. We stop through Columbus every few weeks and make a point to visit this place to stock our freezer as full as possible. I have not yet tried the deli meats because they're not house made but if I can ever verify the ingredients I'd love to try them all. The staff here is friendly and helpful and the prices incredibly reasonable. Many thanks to the Butcher & Grocer!

It's good quality overall (better than most) but the decision to switch to all local has made it edge toward the "overpriced" category, especially if they aren't dry aging like they used to. The quality of meat in Ohio is simply not that good to justify the price point. Even off cuts like cheek, liver, tongue are super jacked up just for the "local" gimmick. Be assured, the locally sourced thing is absolutely a marketing gimmick (not unique to B&G) to appeal to the financially illiterate woke hipster crowd and wealthy boomer suburban keeping up with the Johnsons bunch. It doesn't help that the local population in Columbus is generally uncultured and more than somewhat ignorant so my gripe is not woth B&G per se, but the market that enables it. I do digress, there is not much of a choice in Columbus for good small butchers. Kroger is able to provide a quality relative to Whole Foods while undercutting them, however they have very generic selection. Butcher & Grocer fills this gap and provides a substantially better product offering. In that regard they are by far the best. Worth it for dry aged meats, tough sell otherwise. As of September 2020 they did not carry dry aged meat.

I go to this place every week. The quality of meat that you get here is premium quality. I don't buy meat from anywhere else. Grass feed, no antibiotics or fillers in the meats like at the stores. This place is full of options for your health and tastebud. I love that they carry local products, grassfed meat, and pastured chicken and eggs. They also have lots of organ meat options, grassfed heart and liver. (Check out Westin A Price's work). They have a lovely variety of sausages. Everyone here is so nice and helpful and seem to truly love food and their craft. (It's great to be in the company of like minded people, lol.) They also make some of the best chicken sausages I've ever had. Blew me away!

The only place I know that stocks specialty beef cuts like bavettes, tri-tip, and pichana. The owner has an amazing story, but that’s his to tell. Shop smart, shop local! I stop by to grab some tasty treats for the dogs. I'm taking a whole rack of rib bones for $5. That's an amazing deal. If your looking for fresh meat being cut straight off the cow this is the place to go. You know it's good when you can watch them prepare the meat. I come here for the best deals and best taste.

Read about this place in the Dispatch, so we thought let's go see. First of all there is major construction in the area, making us drive around the neighborhood a couple times. This was after asking for directions. We asked for chicken pieces and were told that they would cut up a whole chicken and we would need to buy all of it. Even though it was $4.99 a pound we said ok. $22 for chicken!! When we got home and unwrapped the bird was still whole!

I bought a strip steak for a mere $24.99 a pound. I'm tired of getting mediocre steaks from local supermarkets. But, I should have saved the money. It was no better than any other strip steak you get at the local supermarket. Heck, for less than $14 a pound, Carfagnas has really good strip steak. I should have gone there. I also bought a sirloin steak for $19.99 a pound. We'll see how that goes. Not too optimistic. Don't waste your money.
