Very professional and friendly, helpful staff. All of the meats look wonderful and fresh. Been here several times for special orders and will definitely be back!!
Omg. I've been eating and cooking Thanksgiving turkeys for many decades now, mostly in Philadelphia, a foodie capital. I always try to get the best. I have never ever ever had a more delicious ???? than the one i procured this year from BB. Perfect in every way. Everyone i dealt w leading up to and including the pickup was a pro and super friendly. I'm thinking there's no way i can wait a year to revisit the experience. I also ordered a quart of fresh turkey stock. Likewise amazing. Worth every penny and them some. So if you want a truly special holiday feast for Christmas, patronize this fabulous establishment! Yum!!!!
Great place, best meats
If I am looking for a special cut of meat this is where I go. Everything is high quality and it’s always very enjoyable.
This place is a TOTAL GEM!! I absolutely love going to Belmont Butchery. The people running it are great. They offer a wide variety of 5 STAR products and create a completely unique atmosphere that anyone can enjoy. I don't mind spending the extra dollar because its hands down one of the best products in Richmond. They work with local farmers which is a total win for me and my family, and for the city of Richmond!
I went back for the second time now and got ribeye steaks that were pasture raised about an hour from here. In a rather unscientific study, I cooked them alongside a couple from a supermarket just to see if there was a noticeable difference. Everyone who compared agreed the steaks from Belmont were hands down much better. The staff is so helpful and the meat seems so fresh. I don't think I will buy steaks anywhere else again.
Unless you are buying from the farm, their quality and selection of meats is the best Richmond has to offer.
Always helpful and such a great selection.
Great place for some high quality meat (and cheese)
A bit pricey but worth the money.
Really excited to have tried this local butcher but was dissapointed with the cut of meat. Bought some pork belly and knew it was going to be fatty but didnt expect to have only gotten 20% meat with the price i paid for.
Awesome local Richmond butcher shop! The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. And the prices are really reasonable for the quality.
Products are always fantastic and very reasonably priced (cheaper than Publix about the same or slightly less than Fresh Market). My only complaint is I struggle getting meat or cheese from the normal grocery store at this point, the quality just doesn’t compare.

Belmont is my favorite butcher to shop. Very friendly staff. The folks are knowledgeable and will teach you what you need to know about cuts. The meat is always great quality cuts. You can see what they have to offer from Instagram. Try their custom sausages and specialty cheeses. Get you a Belmont Butchery bag while you are there.
Oh My! The best ever hand cut ribeyes on the planet!!! 70 dollars fed a family of 4 the best steaks we have ever eaten and thanks for the tips about my new cast iron skillet!
Belmont Butchery is a amazing butchery that provides quality products. The number one product that I'll go out of my way to buy is their DELICIOUS aged ribeye. ????
Geat service excellent cuts.
Heaven.
loved it I'm been before and I still Love it
This is really the only butcher in town, it is expensive but they have good quality products ( wish they would carry more organics). Moving here from north-western VA, we got most of our meats from small stores directly from local farms which were much cheaper than Belmont-- shame ( and strange) it's more pricey here in Richmond. Honestly though, as much as their products are good, I don't enjoy going there as everyone is terribly grumpy. My family and I laugh about it - but I don't get it! They will tell you exactly what you need to know about cooking your meal with their products, but don't expect to feel warm and fuzzy from the delivery of their answers!
Old school style butchery with friendly and knowledgeable staff! Pretty steep prices, but if you want to explore something different, or if you're looking for some nice charcuterie to compliment a cheese plate, this is the place to go! When you're there: I suggest you ask the staff "what's good?" when they get to you. Trust these guys, they'll show you some AWESOME food! Seriously, don't go in there with your heart set on anything specific. You'll be pleasantly surprised if you simply talk to the guy behind the counter.
Friendly. Good selection. Local.
Even though it's a bit of a drive from where we live, the trip is worth it. The quality and variety of their meats is top notch and their staff is friendly and knowledgeable. If there's something you want that they don't have, they'll be more than happy to order it for you. I cannot recommend them enough.
OMG this is what heaven must be like. Met the owner and she was extremely knowledgeable and so so nice. This is my new go-to place for all my meat and cheese
very helpful in spite of a giant Christmas eve crowd. Two fresh ducks. Yum
Amazing quality of steak at comparable prices; great service! Will be back!
Great local butcher with friendly staff and nice selection of gourmet food. The meats are of excellent quality. Ability to obtain some of the rarer cuts.
I can’t say enough good things about this shop. Such great products and always friendly. Can’t beat it. I personally pick up the Buffalo creek dry aged filets. They are cut to perfection and exactly to order, every time. I really appreciate a good butcher and these folks have it down!
Great meats - if you are looking for something unique, this is the place to go. However, it comes with a price. Do your homework as you can find many of these meats at other stores at a more reasonable price. Twice I have called to get something, and when I go to pick it up I was blown away by the price. I won't let it happen again. I called to see if they had veal shanks on Saturday, which they did. When I went in to pick up the 3 (that's THREE veal shanks - to serve two of us for dinner), the total came to $107. I don't care where they came from or what those animals ate - you cannot tell me that three veal shanks should cost over $100. I won't go again just because it is too pricey.
Two persons at one time only. Great staff and selection!
Very helpful.
Staff is always super helpful and knowledgeable. Great selections!
I come in to get casings to make sausage at home. Almost always leave with additional stuff - and it's always great. Staff is knowledgeable and engaging. I like to take my time and listen to them talk with other folks. Never know what interesting ideas or tips come your way.
Amazing meat, great customer service.
Best place in and near town without a question.
We are new to town and looking for a butcher shop. This place won us over as future customers bc of the incredible customer service Sarah showed us.
Knowledgable staff that is adept at making magic happen with just the right products and tips for every occasion. They have never steered me wrong.
Quality and knowledge of product.
Expect great quality when you visit belmont butchery. They always have some excellent, though changing offerings. They sell dry aged beef, as well as exotic offerings such as wild boar and sometimes camel. Around the holidays I even once saw a Wagyu A5 Rib Roast. You'll definitely not find anything like that anywhere else in Richmond.
It's a small and very busy little butchery with a good amount of staff to take orders. I've never had to wait long for my order to be taken and I've been impressed with the quality of what I purchased. For an early Christmas dinner I bought lamb loin chops and the staff got my large order processed pretty quickly when in all truth I should have ordered in advance. They have a good variety of meat and cuts, and much of it is locally sourced and you can find grass fed and hormone free selections. The prices are more than a grocery store but you get what you pay for, and if you are doing a special dinner then I would highly recommend their level of quality.
Thoroughly impressed with the quality and price of all there meats. Our new home for beef, pork, chicken and curable’s
Friendly staff and amazing meats! I drive 40 minutes one way to get there and it's the only place I'll go.
I am transitioning to quality pasture raised meats and fats. Everyone here is so knowledgeable and helpful. I buy everything from bacon to steak. They give great advice on cuts and selection. It's a pleasure to shop at Belmont.
They're the best. Knowledgeable staff and fabulous meats, wines, and specialty foods. We always shop there when we're in RVA.
They are always friendly, knowledgeable and passionate to meet your meat needs. Despite a line at times, they always give the time to truly make sure you get everything you want and more. High quality foods and goods!
place rocks the owner is beyond fair. glad it's here.
Great. Does anyone know William McCormick? He owns an apt house on the corner of Floyd n Belmont. I need his # to rent an apartment from him. Help hmu
I really love the lamb merguez. They also have cheeses and other delicacies.
Conveniently located, cute little shop with nice employees and quality stuff ????????
Amazing place for meats, paté and more! Reasonably priced, passionate owner, dedicated staff - a unique place in Richmond!
Voluntary mask mandates Good quality meats, but prices a little on the high side No advertisement updates on out of stock items Great service
Great selection of meats and they can even do custom orders!
These guys are great! They are extremely knowledgeable and will accommodate most requests. They have a great variety of offal which I was struggling to find elsewhere. Definitely stop by and get some of the exotic cured bacon.
I needed an appropriate Meet for a wild game chili cook off and Belmont Butchery came up when I googled wild game in Richmond. Henry and the gang took care of me, sawing a frozen two pound block of wild boar into quarters. I had never been there before and until I went to pick up my game, Upon arrival it looked like a lovely place to shop. It appears that they have just about anything you could be looking for and if they don't, they could probly get it.
Excellent little butcher shop with all the delicious special cuts/meats so hard to find elsewhere
I can’t say enough good things about this shop. Such great products and always friendly. Can’t beat it. I personally pick up the Buffalo creek dry aged filets. They are cut to perfection and exactly to order, every time. I really appreciate a good butcher and these folks have it down!
Absolutely amazing customer service. I’ve called in a couple of times and spoken with a few different people. Everyone is so nice and so helpful. They really set the bar for outstanding customer service. It is so refreshing to see a business truly care about their customers. Keep up the great work!
Tanya's shop is the carnivore's dream. Yep, they've got the meats. And everything to go with your favorite cut. The helpful and downright doting staff will tell you how to cook your brisket or show you the amazing cast iron to fry that whiskey herb bacon. A great refurbished skillet with a pound of bacon would sure make the best gift of the season!
Great quality products but expensive
I go to this butcher shop about twice a month for select cuts. They are a knowledgeable staff and have a nice selection of local meats. Ask them questions and ask for recommendations, and they will educate. On a suggestion, I tried their Bacon Ground Beef (ground beef with bacon pork cuts), and I'm hooked. I get this when it is available.
Excellent butcher shop with many options and great advice. Not only will they help you pick out a great cut of meat they'll give you advice on cooking times.
I have been a patron of Belmont Butchery for almost as long as they've been open and have never been disappointed! The level of service, care about the products they provide, and excellent knowledge of food is worth the drive across the river every time. Whenever I want to cook a special meal or try something new entirely, I make the journey over the James. Give them a chance, I promise you will understand why a local butcher shop is a special place, and find yourself retuning soon!
Service was friendly and the quality of the meat was excellent. Might be the best grass-fed beef i've had. Pricing was average.
My wife and I visited the store today for the first time, and we thought the place was great. The staff was helpful and gave us some good advice for trying something new. It’s nice to see a local establishment that provides such quality service. Thanks!
Thank you for being kind always, and the freshest meat!
Best Butcher Shop Around Town!
Best retail meat in RVA. You get what pay for!
Super friendly staff and great selection! The sausages were amazing and talking through the options helped me find a few kinds I may not have otherwise tried. Highly recommend!
Best butcher around! We drive in from the Southside to come here.
Amazing customer service and always willing to answer questions.
I wish I could review their actual products but, I can't. I can't because this store treats their published business hours as suggestions rather than anything that the customer can actually rely on. Before I went down their shop, on a MONDAY, I checked their hours on Google. They were SUPPOSED to be open but, that day they decided to randomly close. My recommendation would be to frequent a business that will actually be open when they say they will be open instead of wasting your time. I was really excited to try this place as I am a huge fan of good beef. I was trying to support a small business but, as usual, no good deed goes unpunished. Just go to Wegmans. At least they are actually open when they say they are open.
Go for the hanger steaks!
I drove a long way to come here and bought nothing, primarily due to the crazy high prices. I guess the high end clientele of Carytown carries this place but I refuse to spend this kind of money. It's been a month since I've been there so I can't remember the exact numbers but it was shocking. I immediately left here and renewed my Costco membership where I can buy USDA prime meats for at least half the price than this butchery. I'm not saying they don't have nice stuff, and I'm sure the staff is great too. The $60 Costco membership will be made up in the savings of one purchase. Try to avoid this place at lunch, the parking is horrendous.
They do require mask. They are very friendly and very helpful. It is a butcher shop it is a very nice shop for good meat.
You want meat? They got it. Worried about picking from all the choices? Don't worry the staff there will answer any questions you have. Don't forget to pick up some delectable cheeses and sauerkraut either.
Helpful staff. Always willing to make recommendations and are truly friendly and wanting to build community relationships. Wide meat selection and always a great place to try something new
Great cuts of locally pasture raised beef and pork, house made sausage and bacon and knowledgeable/friendly staff.
Always good selection, staff very knowledgeable and friendly. Great meat.
Incredible cuts from a knowledgable staff
Great meats and customer service
The finest cuts of meats in town and the most knowledgeable staff to assist with my culinary needs
Great selection of high quality meats and friendly, knowledgeable staff.
Everything is always fresh. The lamb bacon is the greatest bacon on the planet. If you're not completely satisfied with this shop than I just don't know what to say. This place is the best. Great job
I've been coming here for well over a decade. Belmont is the best butcher in VA. However, I have no plans to return any time soon. When I visited today I walked in wearing a mask as per store rules. I was immediately greeted by a charming lady who shrilled at me for not wearing my surgical mask sufficiently high enough on the bridge of my proboscis. It's a shame her zeal failed to notice how staff and customers alike were repeatedly adjusting their (likely re-used) cloth masks. Tanya dear, you just lost a long time customer. Cloth masks and poorly fitted N95s are kabuki theatre and are about as useful as stopping mosquitoes with cyclone fencing. Henry gets it. I saw him sitting at the back not wearing a mask as free as a bird. Nathan Gillespie
Best meat in town
I don't understand all these positive reviews. The customer service was terrible. The owner would rather talk to her friend than help a customer. I was not even acknowledged. Even after patiently waiting I was talked down to about what I wanted to order. It was not sliced the way I needed it to be. (Which I've been able to do at other butcher shops) The owner even made a racist remark while I was there. I support local businesses whenever I can. However I will not be supporting this one. I've also heard that she has sued several other local competitors which rubs me the wrong way as well. Build community. Don't tear it down.
Great selection of specialty beef and pork and chartuces. Great customer service.
Love, love, love this place. And you can tell they love what they do. Everything I have bought here is the best quality, and the staff is always happy to help. And they have new sausage flavors every week!
This shop has got to be one of the best butcheries in the east coast, I always pick up my 12lb briskets and every time they please the crowd
Their Pate is grand! I love it, to say the least! Great place :)
We have been buying here for years and I drive by two other local stores to shop at the best butcher in Richmond. Last week I picked up two grass fed, dry-aged tenderloins and grilled a filet minion feast for friends. They were spectacular.
They have excellent size oxtails at amazing prices!!!!!!! They will have my business one a month.
Bought some t bones for Halloween they were terrible. Sausages were good though
had been lookingforvrabbit meat heard about this butcher not only did i find rabbit but amazing staff. helpful informative professional. also bouth bacon hamburger im hooked ill drive far easnend any day i want something special to eat.
Super friendly folks
Great fresh meats! 1 steer tracking! Hand crafted sausage and dogs are delicious. Friendly service.
Yesterday was my first time visiting but it certainly won't be the last. The selection was downright amazing, the prices absolutely fair in my opinion, and the quality of the cut of meat I bought was phenomenal. I'd prefer to spend a few more bucks somewhere small and local as opposed to the big chains especially in the case of my meat. Impressive cheese selection as well, the Mt.Tam is delicious and I'm curious to try the sausages. All in all I'm definitely going back!
I ordered porterhouse steaks but got regular t-bone. My husband didn’t look in the package when picking it up. Don’t be so sneaky Belmont! The steaks will be fine but I wanted porterhouse.
Lamb merguez was great.
Staff very friendly and helpful, great variety of items. Looking forward to next trip.
Awesome place. I get my dry aged and A5 here
Great place, beautiful steaks!
This is the owners husband Henry Reidy talking to me like this in regards the their mask policy. Told me to come to the shop so he could "educate" me........ Stay far away these people are not safe to be around.

Great selection of quality meats and cheese, the staff were extremely helpful.
Tanya and her staff are top notch. I've gone to them for steaks to whole pigs and everything in between. They are knowledgeable and have great suggestions if you are looking for quick meals at home or a feast for the holidays.
This is one of the last real butcher shops in the Richmond area. They have talented people behind the counter that provide a wonderful service. They sell a lot of homemade products and top grade meats. They also have a small selection of wines, cheese, and miscellaneous products. I have never been disappointed.
Expensive, but an excellent place for gourmet meats.
Excellent, Excellent, Excellent! Can't wait to try their homemade headcheese and make ostrich burgers from the grind they happened to have in the freezer!! Thanks Belmont Butchery, you're world-class :)
