I should start by saying I still go here a lot... For a butcher it's fairly inexpensive, a lot of restaurants owners buy their meat here... And maybe it's for that reason, or maybe not, the service is super slow... Just to cut 2 steaks or get some bacon, you could easily be waiting more than 10 minutes... When I go, I generally take the stuff that is pre-packaged... Pretty good Toulouse sausages at an insanely good price, chicken thighs and pork tenderloin are just a few great options... The meat pie is also really good... And avoid the cold cuts... Now as for the meat quality, understand it is a decent step up from let's say Metro, but it isn't going to beat some other local butchers or some of the shops at Atwater Market, then again, it goes with the price...

I was desperate to find a ham for our Easter celebration (a week early for a variety of reasons). After striking out all over the city, I called Viandal. Even though I live far away (NDG, practically Montreal West), they were willing to deliver the ham that same morning. An absolute neighbourhood gem! Excellent butcher who is glad to give an opinion if you ask for it and will cut you some excellent tartare, bulgogi or pork belly just the way you like it. Can be a bit slow but this is to be expected, it's a real butcher shop not some pretend chain grocery counter that sells pre-cut frozen meat.

An absolute neighbourhood gem! Excellent butcher who is glad to give an opinion if you ask for it and will cut you some excellent tartare, bulgogi or pork belly just the way you like it. Can be a bit slow but this is to be expected, it's a real butcher shop not some pretend chain grocery counter that sells pre-cut frozen meat.

10/10 across the board. I’ve been using this place since ~2015. So let’s say over 15 years. Seldom, the service average. Average as in acceptable. I think cleanliness, presentation and the setup of where they take orders with the remaining staff working behind the transparent glasses differentiates this place to many other butcher shops. Due to these reasons and the perceptive owner(s) and it’s staff walking in and out of this place is a whole different experience compared to so many others. On a very side note, practically all staff have somewhat of a European French accent. The owner has his French accent but I could definitely tell it has changed over time. I presume it’s highly likely that most of their staff are locals but working in European French speaking environment explains the above mentioned. I could be totally wrong too:)
