Omgosh! Where to start! First of all, the big sell were the simple facts: 1. The product is completely plant based. 2. There were no preservatives added. 3. The variety was visually enticing. 4. The prices are competitively set with similar products. 5. The Very Good Butcher is a grassroots company, beginning this enterprise as a vendor at their local farmers' market. Gosh, I was beyond excited receiving my very first delivery last week! I did go for the full box, which is easy to find online...I was especially impressed my product was shipped from BC and arrived COMPLETELY ROCK SOLID FROZEN! The next step was the taste test... while I haven't made it through the entire box of course, I can attest that so far I have been completely satisfied with the flavor, texture, authenticity and the complexity sheer wholesome goodness. So far the taco filler, very good burger and the smokin banger sausage made the short list! I can say with confidence, I'm certain the remaining products will be met with the same satisfaction. Impressive that one can find so many good qualities in one brand product....they're loaded with at least 4 servings per pack, at least 18 grams of protein per serving, and completely satisfying the appetite. I'll try sharing a few pics below.

The Smokin' Burger. I'd gladly eat this every day for lunch. With a side of Mac & Cheese of course :) With a cool location inside the Victoria Public Market, you can grab lunch and then shop a bit! Don't forget to load up on Very Good Butchers burgers from the case for later! We were so happy with our entire experience. I didn't catch the guy's name who took our order, but he was super friendly and funny and recommended that we get the Smokin burger and Mac & cheese and thank goodness he did! We can't wait to return :) oh, and if The Very Good Butchers doesn't have any sweets in stock for the day and you're craving some vegan ice cream after your meal, you can grab a cone with a couple scoops of coconut brownie from the pie place at the end of the market on the right. What a cool stop!

The Very Good Butcher products are awesome! Trying to find options for our vegetarian daughter has been tricky. We add the pepperoni to recipes and she now can enjoy "pepperoni" pizza again. My meat eating husband now enjoys those burgers as much as the animal based ones and we all feel better that this is a more humane way to eat. My personal favorite hands down are the ribs. I put them on a pretzel bun and I'm a happy camper. So so good!

I love these products! The ribz and steak have been my favorites, and the hotdogs my least favorites. I don’t like Impossible brand products, or fake meats like those products, so these were a welcome change. The only downside was the time it took to have the order fulfilled, shipped, and delivered to my house - it took a loooonggg time, but maybe that’s because it was around the holidays? Also, it would be great to not have to pay for shipping if you spend a certain amount.

Despite what you may think from the name, The Very Good Butchers serve only plant-based food. And it is delicious, everyone's food was very good and I wish we hadn't been so full because the cookies and other desserts looked amazing. If I find myself in the area again I will definitely be getting one of their sausage rolls, because I loved them in Australian and need to see how they compare.

I haven’t tried the retail products but I had a very good lunch here. The portions are generous and the food flavourful and visually appealing. One star off because I observed a staff member give permission to a patron to bring her dog into the restaurant. The staff then petted the dog and did not wash their hands before serving food.

I really really wanted to like this food. A little pricey but for the vegan lifestyle I was willing to pay. Everything tasted the same. Things were over seasoned and not in a good way .The use of fennel was overwhelming. Maybe in the future I would try again but I ended up throwing out 80% of my variety box, even with a household of 6 :(

I ordered a box, but can't comment for the taste as there's gluten which isn't mentioned online and there is no ingredient list for me to check for myself. I contacted the company asking to return it and get a refund, but was SOL. They responded with "no, it's parish-able and good up to a year", which makes no sense. They followed up for a review, so here it is. Not for those with Celiac and not big on their customer service regarding this issue.

I love the very good butcher!! I started by ordering products online to try out their vegan meat alternatives... Was not disappointed!! The taco stuffer is definitely my favorite but the Bacon, burgers and deli fowl were a close competition. I noticed they offer delivery through skip the dishes and working downtown this has been a God sent for me... Easy and affordable lunch! My co-workers all say anytime I order from there it looks amazing, so before Christmas I bought them all lunch from the VGB!! They loved it! I recommend this company to anyone looking for healthy alternatives! You guys have definitely perfected a need for tasty and healthy alternatives... Thank you for all that you do and for the wonderful service!!

The product is pretty good! The customer service is amazing!! I think the biggest disconnect lies in the warehouse with packing/shipping. The first time my items arrived completely thawed and after waiting was disappointed BUT they were very quick to go above and beyond fixing it and got my replacement order to me quickly. The replacement order arrived frozen and in tact... that being said... some of my order was wrong. Will most likely give another chance.

Great vegan “meats” sold as pre packaged or made in sandwiches/wraps or whatever you order! You can get vegan smoked salmon as well, some vegan cheese spreads, some shirts and hats as well. Lots of seating around if you want to “dine in” or you can do takeout. Philly cheesesteak was sold out when I went.

I edited my review, I finally received my order, it took 5 days to arrive not the fault of the business, probably held up at the border. One package of burgers was swollen up but the rest was fine. Warm, but fine. I emailed customer service who got back to me right away saying that they would refund the charge for that item. So it has definitely been an ordeal but the items I've tried have been really good. Order with caution if you live in the states. This is my original review- My credit card has been charged twice without anything shipping even though I was sent an email that my first order was processed and would be shipped weeks ago and no one from the company will get back to me with an explanation.

I am waiting almost two months for my order. Each time I email I get back a formatted email stating “thanks for understanding “ your order will be shipped out Monday. I follow up on Monday - my order wasn’t shipped. Where is it acceptable that you pay for an order and can’t get an honest update after almost 8 weeks? So disappointing. I suggest you put more resources in your supply chain and less in social media marketing.

I was hoping this place would be good for shipping food. Food arrived at 63 degrees even though it says keep refrigerated. The person who answered my email says unless there is bubbling it “should” be fine to eat. I don’t exactly have a ton of confidence I won’t get sick. This absolutely needs to be better shipped in the future or state on the package that thawing is ok Because the support email contradicts the package. I ate the bangers this morning. So far not sick it still very nervous. The food itself tastes amazing, curry mustard on the banger and wow! I doubt I will order again unless the packaging is better. When I order meat it’s shipped on dry ice and arrives frozen unlike these two little cold packs that were put inside and still were 63 degrees only two days after the package left their warehouse. I will be trying the jackfruit for lunch. Update: I moved my review up to a 5 because this hands down the BEST vegan food I have ever had. I was frustrated with it coming warm and not getting a good response from their help team but after eating the bangers, jackfruit, pepperoni and last night the taco meat(to die for) I had to up my review to a 5. Will be ordering more per day.

Have to say, my Wife and I think this is the best alternative meat products we have ever tried. We ordered the big box with a bunch of different kinds and so far we have loved the all. The bangers and Pepperoni were soo good on pizza, and the ribs was a great addition to our vegan chili recipe. One of my favourite places to get a burger, and something Victoria needed for a long time. The food was good when they opened and got consistently better from there. James & Mitchell are very nice, approachable, and incredibly hard working people. They catered our wedding almost a year ago, and guests (mostly omnivores) are still saying good things. Highly recommended to dine-in, take out, or cook at home.

Sometimes I still enjoy a piece of meat on my plate. Said that, I support anyone making great plant based products that make omnivores mouths water. Been a couple times to try the place out. One thing I must say that I wish they would describe on the menu what exactly the mock meat is made from. I like to know what I'm eating. I did ask the guy at the counter what the "chicken" was made from and he couldn't answer me just said its was good. The burger was pretty good but did wait a very long time for it.The kitchen was yelling food up, food up! But no one went to get it. I knew it was my burger just sitting for 10 minutes as I was the only one waiting for food off the menu at that time. I had to go up and ask them for it cause it was getting little ridiculous that no one was hearing FOOD UP at least 5 times! All in all though they were very nice with great positive attitudes the staff. So i didn't mind to much waiting a long time for the food.It was busy on butcher side that day, so I guess they were all focused on that then running food. Update: I believe most products are made with Wheat Gluten. So I dont really go here much anymore because not a fan of those ingredients as the base. Still tasty but wont eat that stuff often.Found better burgers in the city which they have a lentil or bean base with no gluten. Yay!

Full disclosure, I'm not vegan/vegetarian so I'm judging as an omnivore. Came here recently with my family and was really impressed with their new restaurant. Very clean space, friendly staff, and good service. Parking nearby was surprisingly easy for a downtown restaurant. For vegan food, it was solid! The burger was good though possibly could have used some more sauce. Mac and cheese was a bit too different from what our child was used to, but pretty good for adults. The food you can take home looks great and I look forward to trying more. If you're vegan/vegetarian, the food is probably amazing! Not 100% my jam as an omnivore, but I could definitely see myself bringing my vegetarian friends here.

This review is specific to the "Smokin Burger" 4 pack. The patties arrived frozen from Spud delivery. It's unfortunate VGB didn't insert wax paper between the patties. After a couple hours defrost they are stuck together and crumbled when I tried to separate them with a knife. Veggie "meatball" burgers all around. I will happily update review if this problem is addressed.

So tasty! I received the 'A Very Good Box.' It arrived quickly and very well packaged. Everything was so good but I'd have to say that my favourite was 'The Very British Banger;' the texture and flavour were spot on. The pepperoni made for a great addition to a charcuterie board, too. I'd recommend giving this a go!

Meh... I was curious to try the plant based "meat", but found it very underwhelming, especially for the price. The bbq pulled jackfruit reminded me of steamed sour cabbage in a bit of bbq sauce and the breakfast sausages just were not good. Both products had to go in the bin after being tasted simply because it was nauseating trying to finish them. For the price and the hype, I expected much more. I will note that maybe for a person who does not eat meat at all or is hard set on becoming vegan, these products will taste fine. However, as someone who enjoys meat and was hoping to have other option, this was not it.

absolutely amazing vegan food. stopped at the food truck when visiting victoria and was blown away. the food is incredible, the guys are super nice and chill, and the prices are unbelievable. the poutine had me absolutely gobsmacked. it's really rich so it's best to split it with a friend but it's very delicious. vegan food, especially stuff like cheese, can be really hit & miss but this was spot on. fries were perfect, gravy was really flavourful, and the cheese. my goodness. idk how they do it but it's insanely good. only complaint is victoria is too far away so i can't eat here regularly. haha!

The very good butchers might just be the master of them all. 1. "The Very Big Mac" - this was unreal. It looks like a Big Mac on steroids...and it basically is, except it's full of guilt-free flavour and super filling (ain't no need for fries!) - 10/10 2. "The Breakfast Burger" - Only available on weekends, on their brunch menu. Tammy has zero regrets with this one. Let's just say it was so good, I didn't get a bite. - 9/10 3. Poutine (side). Again, absolutely unreal. There's no need for a side because the burgers are super filling, but no doubt we made the right choice ordering this. Gravy and fries are on point, which is basically 90% of what makes a good poutine, and the cheese was a mix of shreds and a soft cheese on top. So. Very. Good. - 9/10 Bottom line, this place is epic. Eat here and stop butchering animals.

I finally made it here to try the hot food. I've been meaning to visit but keep missing it when I'm on the island as they are closed on Sundays. I've been a big fan of their burgers and sausages that I've been able to buy at whole Foods in Vancouver. I had one of their burgers on a side of fries, the fries were excellent and a very generous serving. The burger was very tasty also, I would definitely try it again and I can't wait for their location in Vancouver to open

In all honesty, the quality was phenomenal! My husband and I were absolutely impressed. The taste was good. However for the fact that we are usually carnivores, we knew what we were missing. ???? what can I say, we like the taste of fat. My kids however don't know what they're missing. They loved it all! My daughter ate two very large hot dogs. The girl is 4 ???? I appreciate that this food looks like regular fast food or restaurant food. My kids had no idea it was a healthier alternative, so this was perfect! My friends are obsessed with healthier alternatives and are vegan because it's healthier. So we actually invited them over for tacos and they were hooked. They actually stole some of our other Very Good Butcher products from our freezer ????

Not bad, but could use improvements... The biggest hit here was the “meatless pepperette” as it’s delicious! Not big on the high usage of wheat, and although most of the burgers are quite good, they taste very much like “spices in a bowl”. I’d like to see more usage of actual vegetables in the mix - higher amounts of beans, zucchini, portobellos, even broccoli (which i’m not fond of but it adds a good texture) rather than wheat. You guys are on the right track though! Keep formulating!!!

Everything I have tried here is amazing. Beyond amazing. My non vegan family loves the food as much as I do. Good portion sizes, good prices. I am in awe of their new menu - very creative. If I had any advice it would be on the customer service end. They are quick to get people the food, but I haven't really had a friendly person there yet. And people behind me were served before I was (I asked why and she explained 1 thing I ordered took longer than most stuff). No place is perfect, but you won't find better food anywhere. GO TRY :)

When we called the service was really great, they refunded the burger, gave us a free cupcake and made a new one. Unfortunately this one was also quite burnt but at least edible this time. I really like their products so will continue buying here but why do staff always make me feel like I am interrupting them every time I wish to make a purchase. Rarely has someone asked me if I have any questions or would like any help. I go to the showcase and look while staff are on their phones or till. I then have to go over to them and ask questions or ask to buy the items. Every time this has happened, I am the only one in the shop. I really want to support small local business, but this business makes it hard.

The sausages we're fine but nothing spectacular. If you do any vegan cooking it's the same kind of recipe you can find making seitan sausages. The smoked salmon was really neat, but again the same recipes you can find online and very easily make at home. The steaks were inedible and were thrown out. They reminded me of my many experimentations of using seitan in recipes and not cooking it correctly or having the wrong ratio of ingredients, ie. It was very gummy and if anything should have been the opposite since it was cooked on a grill with no sauce. Overall I wish them well and it looks like the restaurant is killing it! As far as ordering online, the price does not replicate the kind of food you can easily make at home (too expensive) and I won't be ordering again.

10/10, this is my favorite place to eat in Victoria. When I moved here from Vancouver I was sad to say goodbye to the huge variety of vegan restaurants, but I would happily trade them all twice over for The Very Good Butchers. VGB really sets the bar high for DELICIOUS plant-based comfort food that is designed to be loved by everyone, vegan or not. The food quality, flavor, and portion sizes are consistent and on point--and their shop is staffed with lovely, *genuine* individuals who care about their customers and the product they put out. I recommend this place to everyone--I even bought their t-shirt. Some folks might find them pricey, but I think what they are charging for organic, locally-made & cruelty-free food is more than reasonable. If you tried their food and it just wasn't for you, that's okay; I still encourage you to spread the word about them to any veg friends & family, or even just someone who needs a pound of poutine when they're hungover. We need to support more businesses like this. Tip: try the Clucken' Eh Buffalo Burger and the BBQ cauli wings. Have a napkin handy.. to sop up the inevitable tears of joy while you eat.

Be VERY careful. Riduclously irresponsible when it comes to labelling. Ordered a roast for Christmas. No mushrooms were listed. Order came in yesterday and picked it up. Verified with clerk, no mushrooms. Get roast home, mushrooms now listed on the label. Apparently they changed the recipe and never bothered to update the website information or let their staff or customers know. Seriously, mushroom allergies would have quickly ended the evening with hospitalization. I'm not the first to make this complaint. Do not trust them. **EDIT FOR RESPONSE FROM OWNER** Are you kidding? How is that even remotely useful? This was a preorder! They most certainly were not a listed ingredient. I'm calling the health inspector. Maybe then you'll understand how irresponsible this is.

The taste of the product is good. Taco filler is delicious. However, they need to work on the shipping. It takes 5 days from the time the order is prepared to the time it’s processed. And if your order is prepped on a Thursday or Friday, what does that mean? Is it kept cool during that time? More transparency on their website about this will help customer service. 1st order I received was thawed but cool. I emailed to get information on how good the food is once it’s thawed. Can I put it back in the freezer? The answer I received wasn’t specific to my question. That said, I froze most of it again, and put stuff in the fridge that I ate within a week. All was good! So that’s good news. Second order, arrived warm. Moral of the story: buyer beware if you live far from VGB. I would consider being a customer again if it was guaranteed that the food arrived cool.

I've always had a very meat-heavy diet. I've never eaten vegan food because I don't like many vegetables or beans, and any previous attempts I've made at meat substitutes have been...awful. However, The Very Good Butchers catered one of our work lunches a while back, and their Buffalo Clucken' Eh was incredible. I've also now had their Cauli Wings, and was again shocked (in a good way) by the taste (I've never been a fan of cauliflower before either). I'm definitely going to visit some more and try their other offerings.

Absolutely delicious! The patties are tasty and super moist, very good consistency - not hard or dry, nor chewy, just perfect. The best flavor is probably the "smokin" - pair it with "bacon" and you're golden. Crispy fries were a great combination. Staff is super friendly and the environment is cozy, not pretentious at all. Great variety of different patties, sausages and pickles. Honest prices. I'm not even vegan, but I can confidently say it was one of the best burgers I had - ever! We were so sad for not being able to buy some of their products (because we couldn't store it in a cooler before going back home), but then one of waiters gave us a slice of cake, on the house. So kind :)

The food is amazing, had the Very Big Mac with the rice paper bacun on it, LOVED IT! I can't say enough, the roast beast on a baguette is one of my favourites, it's just a great experience to go there. The service is very friendly, efficient & professional. This place is always busy and I love to sea that. The food is super delicious and I'm SO grateful they are here. Things have changed and it's left a horrible taste in my mouth. Just following orders isn't always the right thing to do. I can't support a company that discriminates against anyone for any reason under any circumstances.

Adding items is highly appreciated but removing items that people were used to and were buying for a long time isn't good in my opinion. Where's the chicken burger? Where's the loaded fires? Staff are awesome as always, food is even better, and the display of all the products is beautiful! Save da Sea salmon, Butcher’s Select line, some baked goods, cheeses, cream cheeses, cheezecake, etc. No Butcher’s Select products offered in the menu yet, but maybe that will be added soon. Would for sure be heaven for the gluten free scene!

We are all struggling during this pandemic but the lack of communication is unacceptable. When I contacted them to express my unhappiness, all I got were bland platitudes. Hearing that Victoria was getting some vegan comfort food, we were super excited and wanted to make that a place like this sticks around. We really wanted to like this place, and have given it more than a few tries, always trying something different when we go, but all the meals fall flat. Having had amazing food from places like Meet on Main (Vancouver) and Home Grown Smoker (Portland), perhaps our bar is quite high. It’s either odd choice in food prep, from very dry buns, to completely under seasoned meals, we always end up walking away leaving food on our plate.

I just wanted to let your company know that I tried your subscription service. The processing time was 4-5 weeks. I waiting patiently because of covid-19 affected shipping. However, compared to other processing times from companies.... Yours is by far the worst. I think I brought this up several times with your staff via e-mail. It is still food. You need to ship it fast or in a timely manner so customers can meal plan, store it in fridge or freezer. I could not tell or predict when my package would arrive. The cold packs were warm. Reality is the processing time is more like 6-7 weeks. I usually don't read other reviews but if you look at other bad reviews the complaints are quite similar. The staff are not interested in customer service. Rather they set a tone to cancel than correct. I am deeply disappointed because I wanted to support this Canadian brand. They charge on time, delivery and execution is a flop.

My wife ordered several cuts of "meat" from this establishment, and I've been very satisfied with what was received thus far. The cuts actually have an impeccable texture that resembles meat, and the taste reminds me of it as well (I'm a former meat-eater). We live in Ontario, and the food came secured and well packaged with ice packs. I'm very happy and I will gladly order from here again.

My wife ordered a bunch of food weeks ago (well before the Thanksgiving cut off time). It is now the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and we haven't received any updates. No response to our emails. If you run a company and cannot fulfill an order, that is okay. Especially with supply chain challenges and lack of willing workers. But you have to communicate with your customers. Update: Thank you for replying to this review with your contact. Although no shipping confirmation was sent, the food arrived the day before thanksgiving. The food was excellent.

I am still waiting for my order and am anxious to try these. It is always a struggle to find a good meat substitute not loaded all sorts of junk! Unfortunately I ordered on Aug 4th and today is Sept.12th and still no order. To be fair I was warned it could take 4-5 weeks but I am now 5 weeks and just got the email that my stuff is ready but no other information. I missed all sorts of occasions where I could have bbq'd this for friends so not sure even if they are amazing, I would continue to order. This is just too long of a wait. Too bad because the reviews seemed great.

Huge delicious burgers. Open a store in Vancouver! That being said, the efficiency needs to be worked on. We were told there would be a 30 minute wait on our burgers, but it wasn't just at all. We came back 20 minutes later and the burgers we're waiting for us. Imagine how cold they would have been 10 minutes later. I love what you folks are aiming at doing, but for the restaurant side of things to gain traction, you're going to need to polish up the workflow.

I asked someone 'where is a good place to eat around here? We're vegetarians'. He told me to check out the Very Good Butchers, and at first I was thinking, sir, I'm not sure vegetarian and butcher typically go together. Obviously we'd never heard of this place. We decided to go and check it out. It turns out, Very Good Butchers had just moved to a new location in the market, and when we arrived they were a mere 2-hours in to their grand re-opening! On top of that, I find out that everything is vegan, too!! Now I'm a person with IBS, so dairy is a big trigger for me, and being vegetarian, I was blown away by the fact that I could order a burger with bacon AND cheese. You can see a picture of my buddy weeping because he is so happy to have a cheese burger with bacon as well. Man oh man. We were all in heaven! The staff here were incredibly friendly, and fast (despite how friggin busy they were). The atmosphere was well-lit, comfortable, and friendly. The food, well, I'm sure you could surmise what I'd say about the food, it blew our minds!! I would eat here again and again until I had everything on the menu twice! Simply superb. I love that you can order some food, have a meal, and then buy some of their products from the deli to take home as well! I really can't say enough good things about my experience here. Anyone who is vegan, vegetarian, wants to try something totally new, or has dietary restrictions, I'd HIGHLY recommend checking out The Very Good Butchers. Easily a 5 star rating, in my mind. Can't wait to visit again! Oh and THANK YOU to Very Good Butchers for taking the time and energy to invest into such amazing food options. I saw something on Instagram that said order by the 14th so your order will be there by the holiday. Well it was not at my house by the holiday. my holiday that was coming up was Thanksgiving. I ended up having to go buy Plant-based meat for my guests that were vegetarians. Very inconvenient to have to do so. On the 26th my order showed up... the day after Thanksgiving. I was excited because I was thinking ok, I can use this for Christmas. Imagine my surprise when I opened the box and not every single item that I ordered was in it. I checked what I purchased and I did see that the roast beast was supposed to be included but it was not there. I checked my email to see if anybody had reached out to me to say hey we’re sorry we didn’t have all your items, nothing, no communication whatsoever. I ended up reaching out to the very good butchers to say hey not everything was in my order. I feel like it would’ve been better had they reached out and said hey we can’t fulfill your whole order would you like us to replace what’s missing with something else or cancel your order. I did get a response back however I did not feel like there was any sincerity in it nor did they apologize. they just said unexpectedly they couldn’t fulfill it all so we just shipped what we had it so it would be there on time which it was not. They also did offer me 20% off my next order the same that they were doing for Black Friday and again no apology. This whole experience does not make me want to purchase from them again.

Great service & communication! I ordered online from the mainland and it was packaged really nice and had ice packs so my stuff was still cold. I was eager to try the steaks because they had bad reviews; they were really tasty! Definitely not steak and more like a meatloaf but the flavour is really good. The ribs are super tasty as well! I'd compare their products to the fieldhouse brand. Definitely better than Yves. Not meant to imitate meat the same way beyond meat does. But really good sub in my opinion and nice portions! Value wise, I'd say it's really fair. You could go cheaper with other brands, but you get what you pay for. I've ordered again :)

Ordered from here for the first time from Ottawa Ontario. I have heard great things, but wanted to try for myself. I have had many good vegan “meats” and many bad ones. The Ribz were so amazing. Who needs to eat meat when you have sustainable and cruelty free options like these. It makes me so happy to know that I am part of a generation that has such amazing vegan food! On top of this, the customer service was above and beyond. I needed my order for a party and so they send me the food with express shipping at no charge. Their food is absolutely amazing. I like their food better than Beyond's products. I LOVE the ribs. The jackfruit idea works really well. I heard a rumor that you guys are providing an alternative shipping option other than Canada Post for eastern Canada, and I look forward to that. So all these bad reviews about shipping will surely all be resolved for anyone else reading, it's worth it east coasters in my humble opinion. If you guys set up a distribution center in eastern Canada, I bet your profits would double. We all know about you here!

Very disappointed. I am vegan/vegetarian for environmental reasons and was excited to order from a semi-local company, they are located about an hour and a half from me. The stuffed beast roast that I ordered came thickly wrapped in layers of styrofoam and plastic with two disposable ice packs as the company chose to send the products using a regular mail truck rather than a refrigerator truck. I would not recommend ordering from this company if you are vegan/vegetarian for the environment.

Wonderful food, great location. Wonderful, friendly, helpful staff. Always great good but this time I had a meal with “ham” in it and it was way to hammy for me (vegan who doesn’t like ham at all!). My preference. A meat-eater probably wouldn’t think it’s hammy :). New spot smells very greasy though, which sticks to your clothing if you eat in. That’s not good at all. But really, I love this place.

Simply delicious Thanksgiving dinner. Seasoned and browned the Stuffed Beast briefly in butter in a skillet, then roasted according to directions in seasoned butter broth. Served with my usual veggie accompaniments and mushroom gravy. The flavor and texture of the beast was great, and the stuffing is total yum, both savory and slightly sweet. Made for a delightful, festive holiday dinner. Thank you, Very Good Butchers!

I ordered from this company for the first time in August (delivery to St.Louis, Missouri). The product I received was damaged to the point of being inedible. I emailed the company for a refund and was INCREDIBLY impressed by their costumer service. They replied within hours, promptly refunded the money, escalated the concern to their product quality team, and re-sent a fresh order (which arrived in perfect condition). I haven't had a chance to try their food yet, but it looks delicious. A+ costumer service for sure.

Here’s my issue: order was placed the first week of April. I knew it would be a while for the order to be processed, but I did choose express shipping. My order was shipped on May 11 and guess what, it’s still not here. 9 days in shipping transit. Gross! I’ve emailed and sent a chat request and I’m also still waiting to hear from someone - 4 days now. I realize it’s vegan, but it’s garbage now. I won’t risk eating it. I’m so disappointed.

I ordered the big box and vegan cheese assortments and I was very excited to try their products. That is until the products arrived warm, soggy and simply not edible. I am very disappointed at how long the shipping took and how the packaging didn’t keep the items cold enough for delivery. Is this common? I’m sure the products are tasty but I didn’t have a chance to get that far, as I had to trash everything I purchased...over $150 worth. I wish I had some recourse to this this company another chance, but I’m not wasting my money again. But I was really looking forward to including these plant based meals into my diet. I am Very impressed with the Very Good Butchers' food and services! I'm from Alberta and ordered some of their plant-based meats to try. I love how their products are made from whole food ingredients that are basically in everyday kitchens. I was extremely pleased by how well the food kept refrigerated during shipping, which gave me great confidence it was safe to eat after shipping. The Very Good Burgers were absolutely amazing! The texture was so pleasant -- juicy and rich like it was made with an egg, yet it wasn't! The best way to explain my experience is: the burgers were just so fun to eat, and left me wanting more! The spices were also very tasty. The Pepperoni was also pleasantly spicy and textured, can't wait to try it on pizza! The Taco Stuffer was also amazingly textured and tasty, filling, nutritious, and satisfying -- leaving me always wanting more. Can't wait to try more of their products!

I placed my order before Labor Day Weekend in the states. Received it October 29. I’m in the Northeast (PA) so our grilling season is pretty much over (not to say I CANT but seasonal food change has already begun) but I knew going into it would come past that. It did however take 7+ weeks not 4-5. I ordered 2 sausage varieties and a burger. Haven’t tried the burger yet but sausages are pretty good. I wasn’t in need nor do I eat faux meats often but wanted to support the brand as they looked very good so I didn’t mind waiting. It’s very similar to Tofurky honestly. I think the difference from experience is that VGB is a bit more moist and slightly softer than Tofurky. Tofurky is made with Gluten & Tofu while VGB is made with Gluten & Adzuki beans. If you’re one of the rare folks who has a legit soy allergy or you’re scared soy is going to “feminize” you, then perhaps VGB is worth ordering and waiting the 1-2 month. But unless you live in Canada or there’s a store that sells it easily accessible just go buy Field Roast or Tofurky without the wait/slightly higher price. EDIT: wanted to update this after a few weeks of periodically eating the products. The burger is very good, the ancho sausage is very good. While I said it’s similar to Tofurky, it exceeds that quality because it’s got a better chew and is more moist. The texture is slightly more complex. Updated to 4/5. The issue really just falls on the shipping not the quality of the product itself. That being said, I probably won’t re order however if I see them on shelves in the US I would definitely purchase again especially during grilling season. Thanks for your comment as well guys!

We really wanted to like this food! We are not vegetarians but we try to eat plant-based meals as often as possible. We ordered a combination pack so that we could try different things. The first item we tried was the pepperoni, and it was excellent, so we had high hopes for the rest of the food. But unfortunately, it didn’t live up to expectations. The British bangers and hamburgers taste exactly the same except one looks like a sausage. The texture of the sausage is pretty good. The burger is less so if you are hoping for a meat-like texture. There’s a weird spice or flavor to the British bangers/burgers that is off-putting (giving it an artificial taste). The smokin bangers are better than the British bangers in terms of flavor, but they’re still not as good as other comparable products out there. The ribz were disappointing in both texture and flavor. Maybe if you smother it with your own sauce it would be better. We used a dipping sauce and it helped. Overall, we will order the pepperoni again, but that’s all.

The only product I don't like is there ribs,, tastes great but the texture is all wrong .. We have since placed our Second order.. I’ve never had any products from this establishment but looked promising. I requested delivery in Vancouver and provided all of the details. It was explained there would be a delay in processing the order and that was fine. On Jan 12th, I received notification that the products were in transit and the carrier is Purolator. By the 14th, there were messages that the address couldn’t be found. I double checked my confirmation and no issue. I contacted Purolator and provided the information (again). They “attempted delivery” on the 15th. I called them and they have indicated that they do not deliver on the weekends so soonest delivery is now the 18th. Concerned this is food and the website indicates not recommended for consumption past 7 days in transit, I’m starting to have concerns. I’d like to review the actual food products but unfortunately it would seem the carrier used by this company and tarnishing that first attempt and I’m not really quite sure why it’s been so difficult to deliver.... we shall see.

Its certainly not for everyone, in terms of the taste. My wife and I really wanted to love it, but it still has that strange/gross aftertaste we find in many vegan meat substitutes. The spicing was so odd and strong. We found that in every product and tried them all. That said, their products are neat and the consistency/texture is very good so they are clearly trying. They get an A for effort so I'll give them 2 stars , but if I was marking based on taste, for us - 1 star :(

I never got to try it :( Placed on order for the big box of meat online. For anyone ordering during the covid-19 crisis, you should reconsider I ordered April 4th and then was notified of the delay (that's fine) so I continued to wait until my order was ready on April 30th but wasn't sent until may 4th. As of writing this on may 13th my order has not arrived and I was told that in summer weather the product can only last 9 days in transit before becoming a safety concern. I did receive a full refund but when I asked that another order simply be put through instead I was told replacement orders could not be accommodated. All in all very unfortunate since I was really looking forward to trying the product! So if you're thinking of placing an order maybe wait until the covid-19 is less of an issue

I bought a few products online with an estimate that it would arrive within 5-6 weeks but they managed to get it to me faster with just 4 weeks, appreciate it! I really love all of the products, I just thought that the pepperoni had too much fennel so it really masked the rest of the flavor. Also I really didn’t like that they didn’t include a “Best By” date and that section was left empty. Would just recommend that they lighten the amount of fennel for the pepperoni and they start adding an expiration date, otherwise I really like the rest of the products!

I had a salad from this place last week that was fantastic and at a competitive price point over other vendors in the Hudson. But today was a total disappointment after paying $13.50 (including tip) for the same salad but shorted 50% of the advertised ingredients. I didn't say anything because I just don't have the energy at lunch to fuss and complain and even less so when eating with a colleague. Nice staff, but inconsistent quality assurance.

I'm incredibly disappointed by this company- warning do not order if you're in the United States. I placed an order back in May and received a message due to COVID-19 there would be a 3-4 week delay in processing. That's completly understandable due to the unforeseen nature of a global pandemic. However, after 4 weeks with no movement on the order, I reached out and was surprised how quickly I received a response. They assured me that the two packages would be shipped out the following Monday. I received the email notification as well. 10 days later, one of my packages hadn't moved at all. The other package had "attempted delivery" at a friends' place but wasn't notified at all that it required a signature. This is a food delivery so a timely delivery is crucial. The package was a surprise gift to a friend whose home had burnt down so of course she wasn't home to sign for it and we weren't notified at all she had to sign for it. Yesterday, I followed up via email and asked for an update on the other package that hadn't moved. They let me know it would ship out yesterday, a week late than I was told initially. I emailed back immediately and asked if a signature would be required and if they knew the date the package would arrive as we'll be out of town Thursday-Sunday. Then I get radio silence until today though all responses had been timely. Today I am told that the package shipped out and it's "out of their hands. If I have any further questions please let them know" The customer service Rep Anita isn't answering any of my questions and is not helping out whatsoever. Please note- this orderwas placed 5.5 weeks ago, 6 weeks ago this Thursday. I was really excited to try this product and loved the mission but I would never go through all of this extra hassle again and expect more of a business to help make things right.

(Ontario) Just received order for the month box. Paid extra teir for shipping and product came significantly faster than expected! Everything still completely frozen including the ice packs shipped in thermal cooler bag. Was getting nervous after reading reviews of the product arriving warm, but that wasn't the case. Have tried the taco stuffer so far and it was way beyond expectations. Would be hesitant to order frequently given shipping is very expensive. Also nervous about the inconsistent shipping. I get it but feel the service should be available to serve Canadian needs first and use dry ice for shipping for a guaranteed quality, as opposed to trying to meet the American market. I recently heard about the Very Good Butchers from a nurse when we were talking about being vegetarians. I am so happy I did I love the fact that they are a Canadian company that uses real healthy ingredients but it also tastes great! I've tried the ribz ,pepperoni and steak so far and loved them all. I really enjoyed the texture of the ribs and pepperoni. I will update my review when I get a chance to try all of the products I purchased. I will definitely be buying again!

Amazing treatment at this location! I've been to the public market one before and it was subpar with customer service in comparison to this one. This location was amazing! Staff we're extremely engaged and checked up on you with genuine interest. Whoever found these staff members needs a pat on the back! Great food too! I tried the smokin burger, I'm looking forward to trying more.

Placed order on 8/15/20 and was charged immediately but it’s now 10/11/20 (almost 2 months) and no updates or product received. Maybe you should stop accepting online orders until you get caught up. I sent an email and will call tomorrow to cancel order.

Excellent product! I bought the holiday meat box so I could sample a variety of their products. So far I've tried the bangers and the bacon and they were both amazing. The best vegan meat products I've tried. The bacon even seemed to have little fatty bits like real bacon and I just can't figure out what they are seeing the ingredient list looks so healthy! I can't wait to try the roast beast at Christmas.

All the food I ordered through skip actually stunk. The burger had horrible taste and the bun fell apart. The macaroni was dry and bland and tasted horrific. The caeser salad went right into the trash. Worse food I have ever eaten. Ever!

I ordered their Smokin' Bangers, pepperoni, and The Very Good Burger. I think my favorite one would have to be the pepperoni. The taste is extremely similar to traditional pepperoni. The only thing is that if you'd like to cut it thin like pepperoni, then it may be a struggle since it tends to be a bit crumbly. If you have a really sharp knife, it'll probably be easier. However, I didn't mind that at all, and I enjoyed it very much in thick slices. The Smokin' Bangers also had good flavor. The only suggestion is to make the texture a bit more firm/chewy. It was softer than I was expecting. I've been buying Field Roast sausages, and the texture is almost the same, but I'm used to a bit more bite like with Field Roast. Lastly, The Very Good Burger was also good, but it may have been too mushy. I grilled it on the BBQ, and it turned out delicious, but I know meat eaters will be expecting a firmer/chewier texture. Overall, I enjoyed eating the products I ordered. They were delicious! I really appreciated the minimal amount of ingredients and how they were organic. I like supporting small businesses, so I'm sure I'll be ordering again from The Very Good Butchers in the near future!

Went there for the first time and I enjoyed everything about the food and service. Not only was the food way better tasting than other meat alternatives I have had in the past, but upon looking at the ingredients, it is much more healthy as well. Will be buying again!

So much good food! John LOVED the mac 'n cheese. The poutine was so impressive and steaming hot and layered. (TVGB are not playing around.) The menu offerings are massive, versions of classic dishes with an updated flavour injection. (The gravy in my poutine wasn't just a salty-mix flavour. It was nuanced, consistent in texture and just as tasty as the cheese with which it was partnered. We also took away a pretzel (which was warmed up for us) and cheese sauce; also consistent, thick, hot and tasty. On a return visit we found out there is a weekend brunch offering and queue-lengths are visible proof that there good things coming out of that kitchen. Also, there are a ton of things on the menu that I haven't even memtioned; there are kid sized portions; yummy take away items and sweet treats. We keep going back for the convenient parking, the great service and the tasty, tasty, goods.

I want to love this.... I really do. I DO LOVE black bean burgers... What I dont love is for everything I bought from the Very Good Butchers to taste like a black bean burger with BBQ sauce on it. I bought the smaller box as a trial, thinking that way if I didnt like it, I wouldnt have spent 100 bucks. Good thing. So far, I have had the pepperoni and the regular burgers. The texture is Way off. Mushy and if you heat up too long it will fall apart. I eat "unmeat" on a regular burger and have been plant based (mostly) since 2016... This isnt a new adventure for me, but I dont think Im going to change my mind about the rest of the meats I got, especially if the rest of them Also taste like a BBQ sauced, Black Bean Burger.... Sad Panda here....

We ordered the steak, the ribs, and the pepperoni via mail. Took a really long time to get to us and was super expensive. The steak is nothing like steak. Not even close. A mushy salmon burger imitation at best. It's ok, but don't market it as steak. The ribs were a little closer, but honestly the Morningstar version is far better. Required lots of extra sauce and the texture isn't right. The pepperoni was the best thing, but it's not worth ordering just that. We won't be ordering again.

If want tasty, plant-based food that will bust your cravings, then this is the place for you! I recommend the ribs, one of the burgers or one of the loaded fries. The portions and prices are right on too. (4 stars because I am not really into fast-food style restaurants, vegan or not.)

Sorry but placed my order 2 weeks ago only to find out you are refunding me for 1 of the 2 items I ordered and the order still hasn't shipped. No email till now, no call, 2 weeks... most people would have left this review in 2 days... 2 weeks still not shipped and not getting half my order. No phone call. No customer service... sure maybe the food is good but I wouldn't know.

I ordered from their site- this review has no reflection on their in house food or service. I waited just over two weeks to receive my items and was very excited to receive them, the items were pretty warm when I opened them, the cheese had gone sour and the meats were just off. I ended up having to toss all of the items. Super disappointing. I wouldn’t order online again, unfortunately.

Unbelievably delicious product. Fair market price. Great packaging and branding. Responsive and friendly customer service. Overall a fantastic, burgeoning company that has the potential to become Canada's premier vegan meat product. The ONLY thing I would say they need to work on is meeting the demand as they are often sold out in stores! (Not the worst problem to have) That said, we ordered our Vegan Stuffed Beast for Thanksgiving on September 27th and it arrived October 5th, giving me plenty of time before Canadian Thanksgiving on October 11th!! (I live in Vancouver) Edit: To those reviewers that have been less than enthused, I understand many of their poorer reviews are due to slow shipping times. My suggestion is to either wait for this company to expand their business further (they are launching Vancouver and California locations soon!), or be more realistic in your expectations. They are a small company that is currently based on an island - give them a bit of time to catch up to the explosion of interest that they have received and maybe try them again once they have expanded further :)

After hearing nothing but great reviews, we decided to purchase some products to try it. Sad to say that I was very dissatisfied. The burger patties were dry with no real discernible flavour. The pulled 'pork' was mush and just tasted like smoked chickory. We also tried the English bangers that I ended up composting as the flavor was terrible. The service is good, but the food is not. I also dont care for the fact that none of the products have an ingredients list or nutritional information on them. I have eaten many many vegan dishes so coming from experience, I was not impressed.
