Here you have the opinions of real people who are purchasing the products and services of The Keg Steakhouse + Bar - Banff Downtown (Butcher Shop) around Banff area (Canada).
As of day the business gets a rating of 3.9 out of 5 and the score has been based on 127 reviews.
You must have seen that the average score it has is really good, and it is based on a very large number of reviews, so we may conclude that the valuation is very reliable. If there are many people who bothered to evaluate when they are happy with the service, is that it works.
You know that we do not usually bother to place scores when these are positive and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Butcher Shop is classified in the category of Restaurant.
Fortunately they didn't make us pay for an over cooked chicken marsala dinner but if you're looking for the type of Keg you fine in the GTA or Ottawa, Ontario, you'll be disappointed, thus the three star rating. It's much the same ambiance as most of the other pubs on the Banff St strip. The waiting staff was very good, which helped an otherwise poor culinary experience.
Service was awesome n friendly
Amazing food , great service!!Patrick was amazing!!
48 dollars a plate you think they know how to cook a steak, drinks were good though.
As always, excellent food, excellent service
(Translated) The local beef was soft and delicious. (Original) 当地の牛肉が柔らかく美味しかった。
Great food! Efficient and friendly service. :)
We seated late, not more than 25 min before close and were treated well, never rushed, and the food was on point. My wife and I know late seatings can impact the staff and so we of course tried not to be slow; but, it made our positive experience here quite special. Our server and the staff would be due a very positive review anyway, and that they came through with the town closing around us is simply amazing; thank you.
Dinner
Not Kool anymore. Lost its luster.
Friendly staff, great atmosphere. But most importantly, the food was top notch, definitely recommend to anyone passing through, or staying a few night’s!!!
Great service and didnt wait to long for food and drinks our server was excellent
Great Service and perfect prime rib.
You’re in Banff, you need to go.
Yummy always good never have i been unhappy
The only place you don’t have to wait to get into for dinner in Banff.. because it’s awful. The atmosphere, the service, the food, the drinks. Our server ‘Juan’ was so awkward and actually made us uncomfortable, not only was he awkward, he was rude and tried to argue with us when we sent back what was most definitely NOT a whiskey sour (it tasted like a vodka slime, without the booze). Because of the less than sub-par drinks and service, we decided we’d go elsewhere for dinner after we’d just ordered drinks and an appy, I told him we’d only be staying for an appy and he proceeded to snatch the menus away and turn his nose up at us. Then, didn’t come back to check on us except to drop off the appy. When he brought our tuna tartare (terrible by the way, I bet Ricky’s All Day Grill would do it better), it almost slid off the plate, I had to intervene with a chip when he almost bare-hand caught the tartare. The ceasars were bad. The Keg is consistently good in Calgary, I don’t know how Banff dropped the ball so bad... you’d think it would be better. Thank goodness we made the decision to go to Park for dinner, I can only imagine how much more atrocious the service (and meal) could’ve gotten. Avoid this place at all costs. I literally would’ve rather gone to the McDonalds across the street, better food and better service.
Really good food, but the service could be faster.
Best steak I ever had. Nice and quick service. Friendly staff. I liked it
Meal type
Amazing view and good service
Went for lunch. Ignored by staff when waiting to be seated. Sat where it seemed like it was a storage area for tables. Chicken and ribs, small portion and chicken was overcooked.
We were on our trip and met up with some family that drove up from Calgary. The Keg was a convenient place in the heart of downtown Banff. It is a good / safe menu, something for everyone. The staff are friendly. Thank you.
Service
This place is located on the main street in Banff right in the middle of the action. The staff is very friendly and professional and the food is always cooked to perfection.
The food was amazing though pricey and the staff were polite. Our waiter was really friendly and helpful. They also have a kids menu.
Good food, good service. Exactly what you would expect from the Keg.
Our experience as a family was amazing, they deserve more than 5 starts for having a dog friendly patio and the service was amazing we are very happy and grateful with this restaurant and we highly recommend it.
Had a hair in my French onion soup. The manager came over and told us they are currently having a "hair problem" I go to the keg roughly once a month in Calgary. Will not be returning to this location.
It’s one of the better kegs I’ve been to.
Stay away! There were 3 sets of people waiting on tables at the host stand. A waiter came by after a couple of minutes and brought some menus back to the stand. Glanced our way then turned around and walked off: that’s when we walked.
Excellent service, our food was delicious. Just a great evening out!!!
Best meal I've had on this trip to Alberta. Steak was cooked just right and seasoned well. Veggies were nicely done and tasty. Bread was yummy. Caesar salad was over the top good. Cheesecake was divine.
Very slow service one plate was ok other was sloppy
Slightly expensive, but GREAT in all including service. Delicious and testy. Nice atmosphere with quiet and soft music.
I was very disappointed with this location, my friends and I were looking forward to dinner but it was not an enjoyable experience. We waited for our meals for 40-50 minutes and when they finally came out they were cold and the sides were either old or over cooked. When we were finished we asked for the bill, we tried to make conversation with the waitress, Michelle and she was very rude and closed off. I ordered the steak and lobster and asked to get the New York strip for the steak but she did not inform me that it would be an extra charge. Usually steak and lobster is 42$ and on the receipt it said she charged me $42 just for the steak and $16 for the lobster. She was not clear at all about the pricing and when I asked her about the price difference she gave me horrible attitude and treated me like I was stupid for asking and also didn’t even answer my question. She responded with “that’s your question?” And rolled her eyes at me. I was so frustrated I wish I didn’t even tip her and when I asked around for her name, other staff members knew who I was talking about immediately and reassured me that I was right to ask for the manager because she gets complained about a lot. I appreciated the manager because he was very kind I just hope he chooses to finally let her go because clearly Michelle has nothing good to offer that company.
Had a beautifully cooked Steak Frite here. Service was very good as well
(Translated) The beef is tender and very satisfying. Tip is 10% (Original) 牛肉が柔らかくて大満足。チップは10%
Dinner
Blue cheese steak had the sauce kind of burnt... we had the same dish do many times and to be honest this was weird. The oder dishes were good as always.
This particular Keg needs some serious improvement. Prime rib was not up to standard keg quality, waited over 30 minutes to arrive steak was so bad, ordered with fries was insulted to receive only 4 pieces of old fries. Was absolutely starving finished it anyways ...couldn't complain about a finished steak due to the fact I was starving. Service is absolutely terrible with the sarcasm and pure excuses for the main course delay. Only started to have small talk when it's time for the bill. This is my usual spot when I arrive at banff Will definitely not recommend to others from my terrible experience -Prime Steak terrible cut and poor quality -Service is unprofessionally ridiculous *there is another keg location up the street from downtown
Expensive ,mediocore service.
Good food for a chain steak house. You'll find something you like here and it'll be done the way you think. They do nothing fancy or special here, just straight up chain food.
Service was great. Lobster was good. Steak, well the drinks were good. Steak was stringy as all get out. Didn't have time to send it back.
24oz prime rib was amazing!!!
Some of the best prime rib I v had
Incredible customer service, and delicious food!
Had one of the worst meals I've ever had. Our server didn't even acknowledge us when she first came over and we didn't even know she was our server until she came back to take our order even though she'd been to fill our water without saying a word. Maybe she was new to the serving industry so we can give her the benefit of the doubt but she barely said more than 5 words to us all night. It took 50 minutes before we got our starters and then the main course was sooo dry. The fries were rock hard and the sauces had a skin on them so clearly the meal had been sitting under the lights for a while. My girlfriend's haliburt was really dry. For our mains to cost $50 and that is what we got then it was terrible. As we were leaving we saw about 20 meals sitting under the lights so no doubt everyone's was as bad as ours. Next time I'll definitely be eating at the Caribou Keg as the service and food is always great there. If the price point was lower I wouldn't care so much but for $120 for 2 meals and 2 drinks then I expect good service and quality food of which we got neither.
Attended the Banff Downtown Keg for a nice dinning experience. The server was very friendly. The meal however was not to the Keg “standard” that we are used to. The sirloin was tasty and cooked perfectly, however the potatoes and vegetables were cold and appeared to have been sitting under a heat lamp for hours. I expressed my concern to the server. In the end, the manager took 40% off the meal ($13.80) in an attempt to make things better. Will never go back to this Keg again.
Bartender was pretty good. Overall attitude from all staff was some of the worst I have seen. Food was good minus the bagged mashed potatoes lol! What restaurant doesn't make mashed potatoes in house? Cheapest thing ever and they charge 52 dollars for an okay steak and garbage. Go to cactus club at least they make it fresh and care about the products they serve
March 14, my girlfriend and I dined at Banff downtown Keg and were appalled with our experience. Being apart of the Joey Restaurant industry we do have a higher standard of expectations but this did not meet any sort of quality of dining. Our server, however, was excellent and very attentive. The bartender was sitting on his phone in front of the bar and lounge, extremely unprofessional and distasteful seeing a bartender on their phone and then not washing their hands before making drinks. The manager (Matthew) argued with my friend about the cook of her steak to the point where he took out his cellphone flashlight to prove himself wrong that it was overcooked and it was replaced with no confirmation that it was cooked to her expectation. To sum up our experience, we will not be back.
Not only was the food delicious but our server was super amazing too.
Great food, always consistent and top quality.
Not what we are used to or expect with our Keg experience. Steaks were overdone and service was mediocre. And for sone unknown reasons they crammed 6 of us into a small booth when there were roomier options available. When in Banff, we suggest visiting the newer Keg just up the road where we had a much better experience on a previous occasion.
(Translated) As a resident of Calgary, I often come to Banff to play, so please don't come to this restaurant! I ordered the steak but forgot to ask you the degree of maturity. I reminded me to be half-ripe, but the first time I came to the steak, I couldn't bite it at all. ! A meal of 50 yuan is not a cheap thing. It is so disappointing that you can serve this kind of burnt food. Only the onion soup is delicious... The French onion soup was amazing, but the steak was terrible! I ordered medium rare but it was well done, so I send it back. Then they gave me this burnt and chewy beef! This meal was charged me over 100$, steak was over 50$. How could they make this for their customers? I live in Calgary and come to banff often. If this restaurant only wants to rip off tourists' money, please sign at the door, I will be careful next time, What a shame! Always a great spot and excellent sevice.
Great food .. great service
Excellent restaurant in the heart of Banff with friendly staff and awesome steaks!
Amazing steak and eggs breakfast!! Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Our meals cake quick and were delicious. The mountaineer breakfast was also another favourite on our visit. Just really good food and priced reasonable. A nice place to take your small family or just a a couple
(Translated) It's not cheap but it's kind and good food (Original) 저렴하진 않지만 친절하고 음식도 먹을만 합니다~
Great food and beer love Banff national park
Delicious food and great service! We will definitely be back!
Always great as usual
Premium price Premium food.. prepared not the way you ordered.. a sad waste of time.. will not be revisiting
Great food and great service. Everything came out as requested and fast. Our waitress was fantastic.
Good food.

Great food, place is definitely in need of renovation and updating
My wife and I were celebrating our 35 wedding Anniversary and wanted a nice upscale place to celebrate it. We went to the Keg downtown. Lets start with the good, our waiter (Filipino Gentleman) was wonderful. The bad - The food was just OK, it was not great or even above average. For 120$ for both of us (no liquor) I was expecting at least on par with our Keg in our home town. The bad, my wife who is disabled (Canada Pension Plan and Income Tax Act) was refused entry to the washroom on the main floor by the manager of the restaurant and told that she had to use the one downstairs. Only after I intervened but after she had to use the stairs, we were forced to self-declare her disability before she was told that she could use the main floor washroom. Under the Canadian Human rights act, we do not have to self-declare our disability to the manager of a Keg restaurant. This was embarrassing, rude and ruined our special evening out. Alberta does not have a disability act like we do in Ontario, but this should not excuse a company as large as the KEG forcing disabled Canadians to have to discuss their disability to be able to use a washroom on the same floor. I will be discussing this with the manager in our local town Keg the next time I pass by and let him know why we won't be returning.
Should have read the reviews before coming. As other reviews have said, you go to the Keg and expect a bare minimum standard and you know what you’ll get. Unfortunately, this was well below our standard Keg experience and was by far the worst Keg meal we’ve ever had. My husband and I ordered prime rib and the first indication we got that something was off was our server’s question, “how would you like that done?”. Normally, a prime rib is medium rare at the Keg and you don’t have the option to say otherwise like a piece of steak. Or, you can ask for certain cuts to get a different level of cookedness. Anyway, we both asked for medium rare. It came out rare, indicated not by the colour on the surface (which normally appears rare) but when I attempted to cut into it. We asked for it to be cooked just slightly more and my fears came true; it came out over cooked and the outside of the meat looked charred like a steak and tasted like a piece of steak because of how overcooked it was. I barely ate it and the server was shocked when I left so much uneaten and didn’t want to get anything to go. We should have also cancelled our orders and left when we heard two other tables around us complain about how their meat was either over cooked or undercooked. I was also disappointed by the differential experience we received from the individual who appeared to be a manager. We sat in the raised section of the restaurant and over the course of the evening, the manager came over to talk to all of the tables around us, and continued to do so as the tables changed; however, not once did he come to our table. Given this awful experience, we recommend you eat at another steakhouse in town. Almost guaranteed not to be worse than this location.
You can never go wrong with the Keg. Especially when when get the Prime Rib Keg Classic! End that with a Billy Miner pie and you've had a great night. Our server was hilarious and attentive, one of the best.
Terrible Keg! The waiter was friendly, but totally unprofessional. Slouched, hands in his pocket all the while. We LOVE the Keg in Lethbridge, and so while in Banff we thought we'd stick with a restaurant we love! Wrong decision. This Keg is nothing like in Lethbridge. It felt dingy, and the food was only alright. I truly did not get the, "going out for a nice Keg dinner" feel. Obviously, one Keg to the next makes a huge difference. Not again! Sorry.
The service was great. I had the strip loin classic while my wife had the sirloin classic. Garlic mashed potatoes were good and the mushrooms were perfect. We started with the French onion soup and Caesar salad.
After being let down by another restaurant (who put our name on a list for an hour but decided to close early before seating us), we dropped in to The Keg about 20 minutes before closing. We asked the hostess if we were too late for a table, and she didn't bat an eye, just happily sat us as though we'd arrived in the midst of a dinner rush. Our server was extremely gracious and friendly and at no point made us feel rushed. (We hurried anyway.) The service was excellent, the food was top notch, and we left feeling like our one night in Banff had been rescued. Thank you to the staff and management for caring about your customers, and never disappointing on service and quality/consistency. Excellent experience.
(Translated) I don't have anything to eat (Original) 그닥..먹을게없어서
Great food great wine!
Steak is always perfect, sides are exactly as expected and the starters are delicious... The high standard is the same across the country... The only hiccup in this location is the washroom is way down 3 flights of you are seated upstairs... Great downtown location in the middle of the pedestrian only main street
I did not know my mixed green salad had vinaigrette dressing due to personal preferences and when it came I realised it had and I apologetically asked to switch it to one that has no dressing. I was shocked and humiliated from the waitress' reply which was "well, so who is gonna pay for it". I have never gone to a restaurant or a Keg restaurant and have someone say that humiliating thing just for sending one thing back to the kitchen. I will never come to this restaurant ever again. I hope this franchise does not have something in their book that let's their waiters and waitresses say something like that in the event a similar situation arises. It is very unprofessional and humiliating to a customer!
Outstanding service!! Veronika the manager was Amazing in providing us excellent service! We had a great experience with her and we work for the Veterans Food Bank! She highly respects her customers and attends to their expectations. Will definitely come back to visit her. Highly recommend this place!! ????
It wasn't very busy, we waited maybe 5 minutes for a table for 4. She put us by the window which was nice. The waitress was attentive. The food was great. Price was good.
Had lobster! Not the best table but nice server.
Cool laid back steak place with professional staff and good food. Dress is casual even though the menu is pretty sophisticated.
Not worth it. Like some reviewers have said, the Keg has definitely lost some of its luster, we've come here on most trips to Banff. Steak was decent enough but not worth the expensive pricing. Overcooked sides, lackluster entrees, unfortunately the Keg is just not that great anymore.
Older feel to it than the sister restaurant in die Caribou hotel, but the same excellent food.
Salmon was great and steak ok. Wedge salad is a meal in itself
I just want to mention Patrick who served us yesterday. He was very friendly and even though the way we ordered was a bit confusing, he did his very best to understand us and he also took time to explain to us the menu since its our first time. He checks on us every once in awhile but not too much which is a good thing, giving people their time to taste the food and all. Thank you Patrick! You were amazing!
Food was delicious and prepared well. I would recommend this location for sure
Great service. Great food.
Bad cook, I ordered medium rare, but the steak was almost well down. Terrible service, I believe the Mcdonald's is even better then this Keg. We booked a table for two, but every group of two came later then us has a big table, only us have a tiny table. They said they gave me a medium rare steak. However, I ate keg's steak in Toronto, Montreal, Whistler, Vancouver, Winnipeg. None of them cook medium rare like that.
Halibut and cauliflower mash amazing!!!
lovely food and service
Service was very long and the food is not good. Not well seasoned, taste nothing. The tartar is horrible. Not worthing the price for sure. Just don’t go there.
Awesome food, great service
Steaks cooked perfectly, reasonably priced bottles of wine (given the context), and an excellent atmosphere in the mountains.
Food was fantastic as usual.
Unfortunately I can only give 3 stars. Server was nice but slow. Food was under par for The Keg. Everything seemed slightly over cooked. Took over an hour to get our meal and it wasn't very busy.
Was not impressed with this location. The service was not friendly and made the experience poor. Wait staff was not around and we ended up feeling like we were waiting for service. Both of our steaks were ordered medium rare and came blue rare on the thicker end and we couldn’t finish. The staff said we should have said something earlier even though the end of the steaks we began eating were cooked close to correct and became rarer as we ate. An adjacent table sent their steak back immediately as it was under cooked. I like the KEG but I am disappointed that this location was sub par compared to other locations we’ve been to.
We were turned away from 2 other restaurants in Banff but the Keg accommodated us and wow what service and food!! Delicious! Great ambience. So glad we ended up here!!
Food was awesome and coustomer service was great
Delicious food, I had the bass and it was amazing. Really filling too I couldn't finish my meal
Keg has always been my favorite steak place. I loved this Banff location too. Extremely friendly staff. I tried Billy miner's pie this time. Loved this dessert!
This is an old review, posted last summer. But I realized it was posted on the wrong Keg's review board. I was here this past summer. I've been to every keg in Edmonton. Most of the kegs in Calgary. Grande prairie, red deer, you name it. It is my favorite place to eat, because I've never had a bad meal or experience at the keg, until I went to this one. The wrong drink order was brought to our table, twice. Then when we got the right drink orders, my two auntie's drinks (long island iced tea I believe) were almost completely syrup. The appetizers tasted rotten like they were ready to be thrown out. I was drinking Caesars and decided to have an Old Fashioned at the beginning of my meal and was brought a Caesar and an Old Fashioned. The main course was the most acceptable part of the experience and it was still the worst main course I've ever had at any keg restaurant. Medium Rare steak that was well done, and the meat tasted old and about to turn. $600 bill, and everyone at my table left saying negative things about their meal. I told the waiter when I paid my bill that this was the worst keg I've ever been to. But I guess when you mainly deal with tourists who will never be back in that area, and transient workers who don't really give a damn, who really cares right?
Good food and lots of choice
Great food and attentive friendly service. We had a large group and were well looked after.
Way over priced. Food is average, and the service is below average.
I didn’t even end up eating here because the extremely rude older lady hostess was enough to make me walk away!
I have been to Edmonton, BC and many other Kegs, but this 1 is the worst of all. Food was very oily, tastless, we were a table of 5, most of the food was left on the plate, server or the manager did not even ask, if we liked the food. Dont waste ur money @ this Keg
MM MM GOOD!! Amazing steak and lobster! Medium rare 8oz mm on point melts in your mouth!! Loved this place. Dark setting very nice vibe. Great place to bring the lady! Great servers not to attentive, around when ya need them. Highly recommend this place!!
Everything perfect!
The best service!! Jeff was happy, fun, attentive and excellent server. The keg rarely disappoints!
Not often I write a low review since we do research before we go out but The Keg is a go to for us and this location has lost it's touch. I also did try to reach out to the actual restaurant and they didn't seem to care when I spoke to the manager. They had to remake my steak twice, by the time I got the steak the first time everyone was done their meals and I had bread and potatoes. The second time it was still so chewy and they offered another meal but everyone had been done for over an hour and it was just a waste of time. It was a celebration meal with people how had never visited us and may never again from out east. It was disappointing and terrible service. They comped the meal but the follow up from my email was terrible. We will not be going back to The Keg - it is no longer a enjoyable, high service focused steak house but a local pub feel with no excellence in their steaks like it used to be. Sorry - we will be finding a new steak spot from now on. The straw that broke the camels back.
First time at the keg steakhouse in Banff downtown. We were really excited to enjoy a delicious steak lunch on 9/10/2021 around 1:30pm, but right before we were seated I witnessed a waiter - skinny older male with some grey hair who did NOT wash their hands. The disgusting part, he went number 2. I highly recommend staying away from this restaurant. It’s extremely disturbing to witness an employee who works in the food Industry that did NOT follow the basic protocols of being a waiter - always wash your hands! DO NOT EAT HERE!
The service was good however the steakhouse didn't stand up to the other Keg restaurants in toronto or Montreal... I had a bone in ribeye and it was tough to chew however my wife was happy with her filet...
There was a small issue with our pickup order, I called to report it and they went above and beyond to make things right! Food was hot and tasty. Will be back!
After a great day out hiking we were like, SOOOO hungry. Food was amazing, staff friendly, lovely clean restaurant.
As always, the steak was perfection!
Very good, nice waiter, good music. Thanks ❤️
I normally love the Keg because you always know what to expect, however our dining experience at this location was not a good one. Three of us ordered medium rare prime ribs and all three came out well done. Before we ordered, the waiter had told us that it was rare to start but when we asked after our food came out she said that we ordered the last few steaks. Service was redeemed by comping our steaks but all in all the steak tasted like cardboard. This review gets an extra star though because the bread was amazing.
Garlic cheese toast is amazing, steak with twice baked potato is also the best
Terrible food and service for the price. The waiter was rude, he walked away 3 times while we were still ordering. We would have been treated better at McDonald's. My friend wanted her burger cooked medium rare. All the waiter said was 'no, we don't do that'. In America, it is a common order. He could have just explained the Canadian way, instead of acting annoyed by the request.
Delicious food, great service.
Awful The Keg’s experience in general! We were a six people group with two infants and because of COVID we were sit two in one and four in other. First our table didn’t have a good lighting so we asked for a change, (in general the place needs renovation) it was kind of unwelcoming atmosphere then the baked potato of my husband was really salty The same with the steak! The presentation not good! After all of that they charged us 18% tip because we were a big group! And it is not because of the tip but also the manager came to us and said that they charged us the tip because we were a big “group” who they sat separated and that they also gave us a good deal in the steak, He was kind of rude! The server was the only nice person in the place! Please if you don’t want to waste your time go to other place!
(Translated) Very good food. Service ok. But very ordinary restaurant atmosphere. (Original) Nourriture très bonne. Service ok . Mais ambiance du restaurant très ordinaire.
Friendly and helpful staff. Good food and extremely clean facilities.
Really keg of your not going to use your own steak spice send salt and pepper and least you can do is peal the carrots only reason for 2 star the re cooked potato had flavour
Service was mediocre and the food came out SO late. We had to wait more than an hour to get our food. Once we got it, one of the steaks came out medium well when it was asked to be rare. We did not ask for another one because we didn’t want to wait another hour. Overall, I do not recommend.
Good food, but pricey.
Service was slow, although staff was polite, we did have to wait to be served. Food came very late as well. Portion is big compared to Vancouver branch, but flavour and presentation needs to be improved. Mash looked sloppy, onion fries were too salty and chicken was slightly tough. Another consideration, drinks menu. We asked for non alcoholic beverage as we came with children. I didn’t expect to get a mocktail and cocktail menu. I am sorry Keg’s, this night was not your best night.
After we cannot walk in to Maple Leaf and Grizzly House, and we walk to the the keg! Still really good with anything! Service was great!!!
The rice was really not rice. I didn't eat it and missed enjoying a full meal.
While we always loved this location today wasn’t good at all. My son and I ordered a Keg Burger after a long day at the River. When the burger came I noticed that I had just one small piece of bacon and my son’s had two big ones. I told the server that my burger was missing some bacon, the server told me that is ok, that mine had just one and if I wanted more bacon I had to pay $4 for each piece. I’m so disappointed. Not the best burger either, dry and lacking seasoning. Will recommend some trainings to your servers, and improve this dish, you just lost a family of five who always returned to this location over the years.

Great dining experience. Great service. Great food
Drove from Edmonton to spend a night in Banff and figured we would treat ourselves to the keg as we love the one in Edmonton. Well what a mistake that was. Food was nasty and not even close to being cooked as we asked. We had better luck with the McDonald's across the street.
Wasn't overly impressed with our experience here. Staff seemed bored and the food was ok. We won't be back.
Perfectly cooked steak and baked potato. Mini brownie with ice cream and caramel and chocolate for dessert. Great finish for one or a larger portion available for 2. Vaccine card required. Tucked away nicely on Main Street.
Great food. Great service. Will visit again
Great patio on banff Ave
The Keg is tucked away down a corridor off the main street. We were there on a Thursday evening and no concerns in getting a table. Our server Jeff was very good with timings of service and mannerism. The food was very good especially the steak which was highly recommended.
VERY disappointed with this location. Will not be going back. My wife and I are on our honeymoon, clearly stating this when we called to make reservations. Nothing was said to us nor done. Back home, celebrations at the keg are a big thing. They make it special. BUT on top of that, the food was terrible. No flavour what so ever and our server was never present. Minimal effort.
Tried a dirty martini ???? and enjoyed it. The bartenders were friendly and funny ????
A poor Keg experience, but still the same price. I’m a regular at The Keg in South Edmonton/ Calgary and my experience at this keg was not good. The old fashioned I ordered for a drink was awful. Came with a slice of orange and a ton of ice, so poorly made yet was $13. The twice baked potatoes tasted like they were baked the day before. The prime rib was good, but not mouth watering like I’m used to at The Keg. The atmosphere felt like a cheap restaurant. Not cozy and classy like how The Keg usually is. Loud table of off-duty staff sitting near the bar. Understand the need increased cleaning but having the sanitation table in the middle of the dining room and watching the cleaning while you eat is a bit weird, take it to the back corner. All in all, this felt like a budget Keg location with still a $100+ bill.

Great food. Great service..the best
I have never experienced such a terrible keg experience before. It appeared like we were looked down upon because we brought in a backpack after hiking during the day and the service at this location was terrible. The server seemed annoyed when we didn’t order appetizers and it was just a bad experience after spending $150 on dinner. The other gross part was they had all of their cleaning supplies right across from us by our table and that’s not the view I want to see when eating a fancy dinner, I really don’t want to be starring at some dirty spray bottles. I do not recommend going here.
Great food, friendly staff.
Disappointed from an overall dining experience. I’ll start off with a couple positives, I ordered a steak for my main to be cooked as medium and it was exactly that. The Neptune mushrooms for starters were very nice, just really small and that’s as good as it got. My main came with sides of asparagus, shrimp and scallops which all tasted frozen and the flavour was so underwhelming, plus no sear on the scallops or shrimp whatsoever, I had to let our waitress know who was more than happy to get another portion cooked up while explaining that The Keg now only steam their fish which is most probably why they tasted and looked like they did. When they came, after being slightly pan seared they weren’t great but better, which wasn’t difficult. For 2 mains, 2 starters and 2 glasses of wine and a cocktail we paid $170 which for the quality of food eaten was daylight robbery. Also, as polite and helpful as our waitress was when we got the bill and paid, we were kept waiting for our change for long enough that in the end I had to go and ask for it. I’d definitely say give this place a miss, wish we had.
I've eaten at several keg locations, and they are all very consistent they all are the same. Except this one, my steak was over cooked. From what was supposed to be medium rare to medium well.. the twice baked potato was bland, and the wife's steak was supposed to have been medium well it looked like beef jerky. And the best part the wifes drink had a fly in it! Disappointing for 117dollar meal.
Love this place. Very delicious food and drinks. Service was very good and fast. We had been twice during our visit to Banff. We will recommend this place to our friends
My friend did not get the discount. The knife wasnt sharp enough
Always great service!
Sub par service, normal keg food
Dinner
Overated. Too expansive for what it is.
Good food..service was soso..no lobster except add on available when we went..was ????
Friendly staff. But the prime rib steak was not seasoned well & too dry its my 2nd time getting the Prime rib in Banff I always eat it in Edmonton.really disappointed????
Very disappointed with our takeout order. We ordered the ribs and it was dry, with wrong side given. We also ordered the Keg burger and the bun was moldy! Will not come back.
Food was amazing!
The French onion soup and vegetarian meatloaf were quite good, but I wished they would have added less salt to the soup. The steak frites was nothing to write home about. Service was not so great. We arrived an hour before closing - perhaps the staff was tired. The interaction was minimal and it took awhile getting our glasses filled. Would definitely try other steak houses in Banff before returning.
Only keg I've ever been to that doesn't meet expectations.
My family and I love this place! We went to dinner last night and our server was super kind! Her name was Nadia, Service = 5 stars. My mother loves the Red wine Sangria! Food, ummm, For the kids chicken strips, not a good portion, it was burnt and we only got 3, one small circle, and 2 medium-small strips. The burger patty was burnt too in the burger. Great atmosphere! Good for children and family dinners. The appetizers were on my table fast but we waited for the entrees a little bit slower than we expected. I wish I could give a 3 1/2 stars. Overall, fair place.
The staff was very accommodating to my dog and i....the staff and food was great!

Always a fantastic experience. Quality, great service and atmosphere blend perfectly at The Keg
Staff out front taking your seat reservations were rude. Finally we got in. Our server was really nice. I ordered the filet mignon and asked for it to be medium rare and I got it and it was more cooked than a well done steak… Waiter totally agreed it was wrong and said no problem I’ll get you another one, be about 5-10 mins. 30 minutes so by and it’s still not out so I am over it and lost my appetite as my whole family were done eating and ready to leave. I told them to not worry about it I don’t want it anymore and I will not be paying for that meal. At the end, The experience was better as The manager came over and was very nice and still gave me the meal packed up to take and also removed it from the bill. Won’t be back to eat here again.

Mediocre food
The interior design is a bit dated and the lighting is a bit strange inside with the skylight but the server made the experience excellent. Very attentive and kind service, however the desserts were a tad too sweet for my taste.
Great steakhouse. Huge so rarely gets full. I had the New York Striploin with the garlic mash from the classic menu which included salad starter and fresh bread. The steak was perfect (rare). Highly recommended.
Food: It’s good in a way that is barely pasable. I order the Keg burger which was very dry and not flavourful at all, the side fries are also tasteless, it almost seem they are bought from a factory and have been frozen for a while. My father order a Top Sirloin which also came with a bake potato, I also try his plate and both agree the plate was very flat in flavour. Service: Just ok. Ambience: Good, it has a very local and cozy style. Only a bit hidden from the public/main entrance.
Great service. Outstanding appetizers. Nice adult beverages. The entres were magnificent. Steak and shrimp was amazing and steak and lobster were excellent. The staff wore masks. Reservations are preferred for dinner, but not for breakfast or lunch.
The Keg is usually one of our favorite restaurants but this one does not measure up the usual Keg experience at all. The service was very slow despite the fact that the restaurant wasn't busy. The servers just kept congregating by the kitchen and chatting together rather than checking on their tables. Our water glasses didn't get refilled at all during the meal. The food was not up to standard either. The original round of drinks was fine but the second round wasn't mixed properly. They were out of a lot of menu items and the side of mushrooms that we ordered were cold. Very poor all around. Try a different restaurant when in Banff.
I’m not impressed. The staff was not friendly, space around was uncomfortable (around you see tables heaped with dishes, sanitizers, napkins. As if you are sitting in a warehouse, not in a restaurant. Food was dry and like Macdonalds burgers.I asked beer menu but they said they can just say that they have. After in bill I saw that local beer was 20$ for 2 pint!So 2 burgers,2 pints beer,1 backed brie-80$. Never Keg again.
What an amazing lunch! Try their escargot appetizer. The manager is the kind of manager that should be at the Banff Springs Hotel. He has an engaging personality and made my experience just fantastic. When in Banff stop in for a drink and appetizer or some patio. Matthew! That’s the manager. Anyone wanting to up their customer satisfaction needs Matthew.
Good food
Amazing experience! The vibe, the staff, the food everything was amazing. My fiancé and I had just got engaged and it was perfect, thank you Juan for making our night so special!

Steak was overcooked, way too much seasoning, shrimps were delicious though. Burger was very enjoyable. Sucks our $50 new York was done poorly though

Service
It was such a horrible experience!
Very freindly and helpful. Food was great too.
Service: Ellie is an amazing waitress - can't say enough about how she treated our party of 5 and made up for this restaurant's shortcomings. Food: 2 out of 3 steaks were cooked correctly, and they were out of NY steaks, ground beef and the prime rib wasn't done when we arrived. Hard to believe, and we expected better.
Good food and service. On the expensive side but very good food.
Loved this place. Not very loud, good service, didn't wait long for our order. Delicious bread, salmon and ribs. Cesar salad was also very good. My wife is a professional pastry chef and very picky, but even she was impressed with the taste. Visited twice during our trip to Banff, would totally go again.
Some of the best service I’ve had in a restaurant. Table was removed of dirty dishes right away. Peppercorn Steak was perfectly cooked. Will be back.
Overall not great experience. We arrived at 7 and there was a large family ahead of us but they got us in pretty quickly because we had a reservation. Decor was so dated. Our server was busy when we arrived and didn’t even bring us water until I asked but everyone around us got some which put a sour taste in my mouth right away. Food was meh and service was ok.

Great evening spot for steak or drinks
Steaks were good but service was bad.
Went to this location during mine and my friends little vacation here. I ordered the steak frites that came with fries , the fries were old and hard, all of our food was pretty cold by the time it got to us. we waited for our food for about an hour, and to top it off, our waitress Michelle was completely unprofessional. while trying to start a conversation she came back with a rude and snappy reply when all we asked was if it was busy. she didn’t use her words when we were paying and got annoyed when i handed her my receipt instead of my card that she was asking for. The manager was very nice when we complained about it, and the drinks were good. I think the management just needs to know who they should be allowing to serve customers.
Great service! Very nice wine & great company
Friendly and cozy spot.
Always fantastic service. Wonderfully knowledgeable servers. At least 10 different people saying hello to you when you visit. Incredible how the food can always be fantastic time and time again. Great job by everyone.
Very nice place with real cozy booths. Server was so patient as it took us a minute to order. Great food and service. 100% recommend
Was here for new year's eve! Our server was amazing and helpful
Service
My favorite. Everything was excellent.
Excellent ???? service
Super good food. Some visitors may think it's just another keg, but the Alberta beef is amazing. Also the stunning views. Our waitress was super nice and friendly, i don't remember their name, (hopefully the staff hear these details and they can figure out who it was)but there was a creme brule that was sent back because it had not set properly, she did not skip a beat, she was nice throughout the whole dinner. In the end she even recommended things to do where there was live music, so if the food and nice views don't attract you, the great service will. Recommending the bone in steak, the baseball steak, twice baked potatoes, the creme brule is usually spot on, just not this time lol. Burgers are great too!

Food was good but the service was just alright.
The Keg is truly the only consistent restaurant from WPG to Van. Banff Keg was a perfectly timed meal, perfectly cooked steak and if not for Covid would have eaten there again while visiting.
Friendly folks, waiter had great recommendations for dinner and things to see and do in the area.
Always great food and excellent service. Patrick has been our waiter a couple times and is so pleasant and accommodating.
One of the greatest steak in town
