Here you will see the reviews of people who used the services and products of Save On Meats (Butcher Shop) in the territory close to Banff (Canada).
Currently this business has a rating of 4.3 out of 5 and the rating is based on 127 reviews.
As you can read, the average score it has is very high, and it is founded on a very large number of scores, so we may think that the valuation is quite reliable. If there are many people who bothered to evaluate when they are satisfied with the service, it works.
As you know, we do not usually bother to put reviews when these are good and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...
This Butcher Shop is classified in the category of Diner.
Went to a charity event at this place, was great, hats off to these guys / girls. Great job.
Amazing food. Their burgers are the best. Chicken and waffles are also awesome. All their meat is from the butcher next door so you know it's top notch. In a very grungy part of town with no parking, but worth it.
Good diner food, good prices and a casual atmosphere. I dig it.
The savoury chicken and waffles is to, die, for. Seriously good.
Good food but they don't do the build a burger deal at lunch anymore ????
Excellent casual dining at fair prices. Innovative options and a business that cares with a program to give meals to the needy with certain purchases (breakfast I'm pretty sure)
I use to go here 4 afternoon's a week, twenty+ years ago when i managed two hotels five minutes away. That's before the renovation when it was a cool and nice place..
Good place to get a cheap breakfast or whatever you want to eat!
Great service ... Food didn't blow me away ... But good price for what we got
Fresh ground beef for hamburgers. Fresh ingredients! Yum
Family-friendly, good for the neighbourhood, damn fine burgers. Solid veggie options to boot.
Good food, really good prices, and great service in this charming diner. What’s not to love?
What can I say. This diner has amazing food, and at a good price too. But go there early, cause they always run out of their awesome pulled pork. They also have a great token program for the city's homeless and impoverished.
Great place with great food and excellent service. Would return
Went for breakfast and their version of hash browns, omg, disgusting...im sorry because I love their food, well everything but those hash browns ...they looked and felt like mushy wet stuffing with bits of shredded potato in it and the seasoning was poultry seasoning or sage or something similar and not ok in anyway with breakfast ...im sorry but take that off your menu!!!!!! Everything else I have ever had there has been amazing !
Good vibes, authentic Gastown feel. Solid diner food at a good price.
Good simple food. Not pretentious at all.
Great diner! Went here on a friend's recommendation and it was so worth it. Small menu but great value, and there's still a good variety.
Awesome experience with the cs and the food was so good I letter stuff . thanks again for the meal an the drinks an the accompanie that I was with awesomeness
Really good for brunch, the staff are friendly and you get a discount on the butcher shop with your receipt
Great place, the food was great and the price was right!
The best meat shop in Vancouver, this family owned butcher shop has kept the poverty stricken fed for many years. Consistently excellent service and affordable pricing.
Comfy atmosphere and delightful staff. The 3 course dinner was absolutely scrumptious. Awesome. Thank you Save on Meat!
One of my absolute favourite places to eat downtown, bar none. Amazing food, good service, well priced. Perfect greasy spoon!
Cool little draft bar with the original lunch counter and a radio station in the front. Save On Radio seems to have some of the best DJs in the city producing the music.
Great food and service is on point
Perfect burgers. They have a great token program for the homeless as well! It's hard to say one bad thing about this place!
Really like this place for a weekend day brunch, service is always good, staff are lovely, food is consistent. Plus their token program is great, buy one or two!!
Great food, even better staff!
The best breakfast in town...although our breakfast always seems to contain a burger. Always good food and staff are personable. Love the vibe. Always my first choice for weekend brunch.
Very nice service, simple and tasty diner food and some decent house beer. Will happily return!
Been here a couple of times on slow days. Service is kind and fast. Prices are reasonable and they serve breakfast all day, so you can have a fast and cheap meal.
Freshly Ground Meat for Hamburgers. Makes a Great burger. Casual dining. I like this place.
Best lil spot to take a break from downtown. Love the unpretentious vibe & the good food!
Friendly service. I had chicken and Waffles. It was delicious. Prices are decent.
Menu is smaller than it used to be. Foods good. Milkshakes great.
The sevice is excellent. So many people love it here and I understand why. FANTASTIC place to eat.????
Absolutely LOVE this little “hole in the wall” diner! The staff is fantastic!!! Quality of food is great, but what you’d expect for a good diner. They can get a little slow when they get jammed though (very popular local spot).
Sat inside for 20 min and all I got was a menu and water. There was a girl setting up cutlery right in front of me with no care in the world. I eventually left.
Exceptional Burger!! Staff are also good too
Went to the Persephone Snug pub that just opened, and it was so good! I had the vegan Lox bagel and it definitely reminded me of a classic salmon and cream cheese on a bagel. Our server Jess was very kind and gave me great recommendations on what to drink, the sour beer and the cider were so easy to drink. Will definitely be back.
Decent little diner tucked away in a rough corner of Vancouver. Cozy atmosphere, good music. Prices are fair. Staff is very friendly. Menu is limited and the food didn't blow me away, but I still enjoyed what I had.
A perfect combination of great food, awesome service and affordable price.
Awesome place. Great quality food. Throwback style
The meat is always spot on..this place is clean fresh friendly
Nice little dinner in a historic and iconic neighborhood. Save on Meats has been a Vancouver landmark for a long time. The newish dinner serves good food at a friendly price. Service was friendly
I really like this place during the weekday so much it is awesome and the waitresses and waiters make you feel so awesome
Like a time machine takes you back to great food ,nice people servers and customers alike. Downtown Eastside lives again ,enjoy the food its more than a mouthful.
The food is awesome especially breakfast burgers it's just awesome awesome awesome
This place is great! Food is on point, atmosphere wonderful. Above everything they support the community, donating sandwiches to people in need. This is the heart of Vancouver.
It was a nice, friendly place to have a nice breakfast with smiley faces...
Really excellent food great place that does nice things for the company
Great vibe and this place has high chair for my child, which is a huge plus! But then we were greeted with cold face when ordering and then went on and …
Great diner spot nestled in a precarious place in Downtown Vancouver. The atmosphere is what a diner should feel like. And the food is exactly what is needed for your soul. The grilled cheese was simply sublime. Worth checking out anytime during the week.
Love SOM. Gourmet burger, best fried chicken, solid waffle and authentic-old school milkshake. All those and helping the community at the same time, rare combo. Also, we love David, our server. My new favourite diner.
Went for opening day of The Hasty @ Save On Meats. Did not disappoint! Sandwich was perfect (Fried Chicken), concept (quick but delicious food to go) is great.
Food here is amazing! Was told to try this place many times and was so glad we did! Great diner and great prices
I mentioned to the guy behind the bar how much I loved pickles. Next thing I know, he passes me a cup full of delicious deli pickles. What a saint. Also the soups there are pretty excellent.
I love this Diner, glad I work so close to it so I can go there often.
Love this place and the staff is awesome and I hope to see mark one day
Save on Meats used to be a go to greasy spoon destination for me, back in the days of perogy burgers and polar bear milkshakes. It's been two years since I've been last and what a difference time makes. The service was disappointing (the waiter seemed like they couldn't wait for us to read the menu) and the food was ridiculously bland (the sauce and spices in the savory chicken and waffles was entirely inadequate). This place dropped from a five star down to one really rapidly and that's a shame. Would not recommend.
Great breakfast! They also support the needy on the downtown eastside. All I can say is great prices and service.
So, here we have a local business that shares a long history with the East Side. I remember far back in the late eighties and early nineties; before the renovations how the original owner was known for his kindness and his social conscience. The original owner would collect groups of people down on their luck and he would bring them in for a free breakfast which he prepared himself. This of course is the basis for the fobs that are randomly distributed which when presented will give you a free breakfast sandwich. It is a wonderful testimony to the effect this has had on more than just the hungry people. The son or grandson who has taken it over and moved it in to the new century has included this attitude of giving back compassionately as the business has grown and changed in to the fine restaurant/ butcher shop it now is. The original owners kindness and community spirit is reflected still in the fobs I previously mentioned and in the fact that once a month this gem opens the doors of its restaurant for an evening of free dining for the residents of the DTE. Serving awesome meals like Shepherds pie and mashed potatoes to all. When you add to all that the fact that their butcher shop makes chicken cordon blue to die for and some awesome smoked meat products for very low prices, I would have to say this is a very blessed place to shop and eat at
The food was fantastic and the service wonderful! Don't be mislead by the humble exterior or strange name; this is a amazing little place. We went in for breakfast and were greeted warmly. Immediately we felt …
Great service and the adult milkshakes are sooooo good
Good place to have breakfast. Fair price!
Great place for delicious diner food. The prices are good and the staff have always been very friendly. Plus it opens at 11am, so you don't have to wake up super early on a Sunday morning to get a spot for breakfast like many breakfast joints in Vancouver. The chicken and waffles are 10/10.
One of the choice picks for diner food. Things are reasonably priced, but, better yet, tastes great! The tomato soup is rich. I love it. I've tried the waffle chicken. The waffle was a bit hard, but, otherwise, good. The Swiss burger is …
Was okay. Good burger. But not like the old place. First time i had been here since it was no longer Save On Meats.
Great food. Amazing service. Will definitely be back.
It's back but definitely not the same. Don't bother with the burger. They sell meat next door but don't seem to put any in their burger, it was mostly filler what little was there. Gone are the days of the 1lb burger, now you are lucky to get 1oz. The slice of tomato was bigger and they tried to make it look bigger by breaking it and spreading the patty to the edge of the bun, the break was covered by the strips of bacon and cheese. It was shockingly disappointing. No fresh cut fries either, I am sure they are from frozen. It was only $6 but I will never have it again. If I go back I will have the all-day-breakfast for $4, it is all day even though the menu says they stop serving breakfast at 11am.
The meatloaf does not disappoint. I'm kind of dying to go back and have it again. The price is also very reasonable. Finding a table wasn't a problem and we were in and out in almost record time. Perfect for dinner before going to see a movie at Tinseltown (or whatever it's called now).
Excellent food and service! Waiter was extremely friendly and refilled coffee almost instinctively lol Will go back again
The service was awesome! Food was delicious!! They were very attentive to our every needs!
Save on Meats is awesome to say the least. Low key and relaxed diner experience, no outrageous pricing structure and you can easy fill yourself on the average meal. I've heard from locals of the burgers having a good rep, but I wouldn't label this place as a burger joint. Yes, the burgers are good, and you can even "build your own burger", but the reason the burgers are good is because everything from here that I've had was so god damn good, so don't just default to the burger if you find something else you want. Great place to duck in after a stroll around Gastown to grab a decent lunch meal with a cheeky beer without breaking the bank.
Poutine and a shake. Tasted great! Small place not much seating.
Such a great place to hangout and enjoy the company of friends. Food prices are cheap and the place is easy to locate.
These were the best burgers I’ve had in many years. Beef patties right from scratch and the perfect crisp on the fries. Definitely going back to this place, don’t be taken back by the area of Vancouver. Staff are super friendly as well.
This used to be my fav spot for a burger. Service has gone down hill and so has the food quality. Shame.
Proper diner. Good people and involved community vibes. Menu could be a little better
Seen in movie "Dreamcatcher" from 2003. 12 minutes into movie. The place next door looks to be a theatre. Now turned into a dive bar....and probably not the good kind of dive bar! The liberty pawn across the street in the direction the character was crossing street is now vacant lot
Got the fried chicken and waffles and it was good. Not at all expensive and good quality.
Great Veg selection! I had the Veg Chili and Veg (All Day) Breakfast Sandwich. Both were delish at a very reasonable price! Super friendly staff and very pleasant atmosphere. Great place to bring visitors.
Good deals especially in Vancouver. great food as well. Diner style.
Don't run an angle grinder when you have customers. We couldn't even talk during breakfast it was so loud. Based on your other reviews, this might be an isolated incident, but I won't be coming back.
Good place to go to kill time but the radio stations placed weirdly
At first I loved this spot! And then I got waffles with a HAIR baked into it. Nothing worse. Fuel to the fire, I was charged full whack, not great is it. Another note, I understand it's in a certain area of the city. Guaranteed some colorful character will enter and disturb the entire room
This place is a well known, long standing cheap diner with a 50's Mom and Pop feel. They have been a staple in the Main and Hastings area since the 60's. Apparently they do charitable work within the community and they have a great reputation. Unfortunately, when I went there it was on a break from work and it was prime time around 1pm on a weekday. I ordered the basic breakfast and my coworker order grilled cheese. We ended up having to take it to go because it took them 45 minutes to complete those 2 simple meals. Eggs and toast is not the kind of meal that you take o go. Enough said.
Very hit or miss on the food. Milkshakes are good. Burger and beer deal is awesome vslue. Good diner overall.
Great place to eat. Friendly staff and excellent service
Award winning breakfast sandwich burger and don't forget the amazing selection of house made burgers and hand made milk shakes. Vancouver icon since forever with Save on radio station built into the restaurant. Diner feels
You know how it's great to have that one reliable place where they don't gouge you for a burger and a beer, where the burger is pretty darned tasty and the service is good and the beer is local? Yup, this is that place. Plus they have chicken and waffles. Bonus.
I really love coming here but for some reason the service has declined. I've actually gotten my food before my drinks even arrived and my glass of water and they were not even busy. Everyone in the place was ignoring me and not looking even in my direction... Seemingly on purpose. I had to get up and say at least can I have a water while I'm waiting I'm super thirsty it's been 15 minutes.
Save On Meats held a dinner last night with another organization for people of the Downtown East Side FOR FREE! There was a soup, an entree and then desert. Awesome food! Great Staff! I went by myself, but still had a great time.
Surprisingly great food. Excellent service and a good variety of drinks
great atmosphere and diner decor. staff are very cool. very flavorful food .
We had a the Rubin and fries. But the burger and eggs Benedict look yummalicious. Will be ordering this next visit.
This place is truly deserving of 5 stars as they do have the best burgers in town. They have been able to keep the tradition alive of great burgers from the old butcher shop and at very reasonable prices too. Their other menu offerings like chicken and waffles is also tasty. I think this place has better food than other similar establishments.
Great staff! Great food! I always have a good time there
Cannot hype this place up enough!! Proud to support this business for the last 5 years. The food is always on point plus there's 2 for $12 casears & mimosas all weekend long. I almost always order the fried chicken and waffles but when I wanna try something different, I'm never disappointed. I also love their philanthropic efforts with their sandwich token & clothing program.
This updated version of what used to be there is much more welcoming. A dinner with some great food. Do yourself a favor and try the bourbon chocolate shake with bacon! If you are looking for cuts of meat, it's still available next door!
Fresh meat leads to some great burgers. Also chicken and waffles were great. Try the adult milk shakes.
Pretty good diner fare! I've never been disappointed with the food. The menu here is small and service is often slow, though always friendly. The restaurant runs a worthwhile local charity, and you can buy tokens to help them feed people if you like.
My experience here really changed me! From the tokens for homeless program to the incredibly scrumptious food I truly enjoy this place and cannot wait to go back. I recommend the milkshakes highly! Fantastic service too! Don't let the location scare you away from this angelic spot!
They don't have a broad array of burgers though the ones that have a very good quality. If you go after 3pm you'll have a good offer of burgers+beer for $10. In spite of the size of the place there are few spots for big groups.
Unreal pickle brine fried chicken. This place is no joke if you're hungry. Super friendly staff, I'd maybe say cool it on the legal cannabis talk from the young guy behind the counter. We get it, it's legal now and it's obviously big in Vancouver culture but if I hear the word "terpene" again during my breakfast I'm gonna throw my waffle at you very scientifically.
Best burger in town! I've never been disappointed. Even their veggie patties are pretty delicious (vouched for by my vegetarian friends). They also have a token program to help feed the residents of the DTES. So, grab a bite and buy a token to give to someone who look like they might need a meal!
Went there this morning. Quite empty. Waiter gave us our water then went away. Only 3 tables and one guy at counter. Police officers came in to eat and he made small talk. I was looking over to catch his attention. He served others then went back to small talk. When he finally came over I was getting up to put my coat on and I said "You took too long" No apology but he laughed really loud in my ear "Ha!" Right in my ear. I will never go back and this guy needs to learn customer service.
I was really disappointed by the chicken and waffles, chicken was okay, barely pass, but the waffle was worse than the frozen store bought ones. It was soft and bland, didn't add anything to my dish. The gravy doesn't go well with the …
Friendly staff. Excellent burgers. I think they should ALWAYS come with fries though.
I love the fresh home made potato chips. Perfect with the all day breakfast
Clean, good selection, nice store & great service.
Good prices and they are always out there helping the local homeless people.
The burger is always amazing. Great breakfast too, the new hash browns are addictive
A great restaurant with a really good ethos on feeding the those in need. The booths are nice and cosy and the food is delicious.
Gluten free options, good pickles, better music ????
A delicious spot dedicated to helping those in need. They give out sandwiches to the homeless. Anything additional (cookbooks, socks, etc) goes to a good cause. The staff is incredible and the food is great. Really filling.
Best Chicken and waffles in Vancouver. It ain’t Roscoe’s, but it is still good in its own right. Also the staff are always friendly.
Maybe we went on an off day, but only one beer available on tap everything else unavailable and the only reason we went was to try the mac and cheese burger bun and they ran out. Very disappointing, points for atmosphere and look.
I love it, but also miss their old chicken and waffles. SIGH. Try the London Fog adult milkshake.
This place is a gem. It's great bang for your buck and Guy Fieri approved also!
Great food. Not super busy so go! What are you waiting for?
Really fun place, cool venue! I just learned that they have these drag shows every 2 weeks and they are so much more fun and interesting than the typical drag shows at gay bars. Cover is only $10, but it sells out super fast! I highly recommend going!
Today was my first time dining at Save On Meats. Upon my arrival, I was greeted by a male who told me I could seat where ever I liked - I chose a booth. Upon being sat, it took a few minutes to get a menu. Once I got my menu the server didn't even take my drink order, she just walked away. I was craving a burger so I got the Bacon Double Cheese Burger with a poutine. I thought the burger was pretty good. The patty had good spice to it and was juicy throughout. The poutine was pretty mediocre though. The fries and cheese curds were cold, and they used turkey gravy which I found to be fairly bland. I'd give the service 3/5 and the food a 3.5/5. I will most likely return to give them a second try, perhaps I caught them on a bad day.
One of my favourites in Van! They have great comfort foods, a chill attitude and support the local community. I love in Sydney now and when I came back to Van with my new husband it was the first place I took him to eat. Thanks guys!!!
They make things slowly
Everything looks like it's from the 70's. The food is amazing and the service is fast as hell. Such good community vibes.
A must of you are in Van. The food is incredible, the prices are great and the staff is friendly. Do not skip this place!!
Reasonable prices for food. Burgers start basic but quickly increase in price as you start to add toppings! The milkshakes are also good.
Menu has changed alot food quality still top notch ... Love this place ...
Awesome food. Great staff. Works with the locals . Ethics! Treats people like people. Love the tokens. Never turns anyone who is hungry away. Gives everyone water, and fills anyone from the streets water bottles! No attitude given just respect!
History , food, people, local and price best "fast food type restaurant in the province. Best in the country. Lots of options and great staff, from the server to the cooks. And after eating one can shop in the butcher's for home. I love this place.
Late night snack is the best drag event in Vancouver.
Fantastic... please keep open!
A time capsule of Vancouver before gentrification and tech companies. Solidly good diner food. Try the reuben with a local beer.
Love the burger and beer deal for 10 bucks .... haystack fries to die for
Breakfast is so yummy
So good. Burnaby Heights finest. Quality is outstanding, service is warm and helpful, yet prices remain competitive. Go for it.
Vintage in a trendy way. The food was fantastic. Prices are pretty standard for a burger place. It is not the same resturaut it was 10 years ago, it is full of hipster type people and lacks the true east van feel I remember. Gentrification strikes again.
Hipsterville but it's okay. Music's good, vibe's good, food's good.
I was traveling solo in Vancouver and this was the best haven to stumble upon. Great food and vibes. And David, an angel on earth, hosts the best parties in the back ????????✨
Guess what! You can't expect a decent experience in DT east side. Just looking at the misery makes me sick to my stomach. Who invites a business partner to have food in this crappy place?
The sweet chicken and waffles are amazing!! Love the retro decor and great service.
The atmosphere is very old school. I highly recommend the reuben.
Excellent food. Love the idea of them supplying a burger to a less fortunate person when you purchase a burger.
Wow, awesome. A Vancouver classic for sure.
Fantastic Staff , Blast From The Past Decor , Awesome Food , Decent Prices , The Token Program , What An Awesome Idea !!! You Gotta Check This Place Out , You Won't Be Disappointed
A friendly and budget friendly place to eat.
Quite a unique place! Definitely worth the visit, even if u just pull up a chair and chill.
Thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant. Service was good and for was delicious. Ordered the beef burger and poutine. Would go back
Quite an unpleasant little operation they have going on there.. I had to sit on a stool to eat which wasn't very comfortable. The food was substandard as well, a ballpark type of burger was what I wound up with. I can't remember anymore if I had coffee or pop with it but whichever it was I do recall not being able to get a refill and having nothing to drink most of the way through eating my meal. The young server just ignored me and socialized with a couple of kids that were hanging out at the opposite end of the counter. Over all though, whenever I think back it is the antisocial server who completely ignored me while I was there that I'll always remember.
I love this place! It's all about the beef and the burger sauce. It's a bit off menu but the bacon double cheeseburger is perfectly flavor proportioned.
Burgers are very good. Water was warm.
Fast, friendly service. Great prices.
It's okay, good price for food but gets my order wrong. I once asked for one of their sandwiches (that was suppose to come with a pickle) with no mayo and scrambled eggs on the side... They put mayo in the sandwich along with the eggs and no pickles... Another time I went and their milk machine was out. The place has good customer service but a few things they need to work on.
Great neighborhood restaurant. And a much needed option for fresh food at a reasonable price
Mystery milkshake makes me happy, when I'm in the mood I ask them to make it boozy. This place described in one word would be epic. Cozy retro diner atmosphere. Their food is always an adventure, not too bad prices, other than for their pot pies which are a bit pricey, but they've got great specials. Perfect hangover cure. I would rate them 5 stars if their hours were better. The amount of times I've tried to go there when they're closed it too damn high. But I love them.
I was a tad skeptical about eating meat in a place called save on meats on a street with such a reputation as east hastings has but Great atmosphere and great people. this although expensive is the best burger I have ever had. if you can overlook the run down neighborhood and have alittle extra money to treat yourself once its a good one time try
Lots of friendly staff and good products at decent price, excellent deli and meat department, as well as bakery, excellent service and convenient location
Amazing Reuben Eggs Benedict and great Rock & Roll music. Everybody's greeting you with a smile. You can also buy meal token for the homeless. I'll be back!
High quality diner food. Great meat from the butcher shop and unique spins on classic comfort food dishes, from burgers to mac n' cheese to grilled cheese. Diners Drive-ins & Dives visited to try the turkey pot pie, but the $6 burger and other meaty dishes steal the show. The adult milkshakes and chocolate bacon cookies are other highlights.
Nice staff and good food.
All breakfast all day
They have the absolute best chicken salad sandwich I've ever had. Huge chunks of chicken, nice pieces of celery and onion with the perfect amount of mayo. ???? yummm
Great food at reasonable prices! Can't wait to go back.
I am so thankful this place exists. You can get tasty breakfast for $6. I cant think of another resturant where you can eat freshly made food for under $10. I went here a lot as a student because it was one of the only places I could afford to eat. The staff are super kind and empathetic and this is one of the few restaurants around gastown that makes an effort to help the DTES community - for $3.50 they will make a nutritious meal for someone in need. I hope if you eat here and can comfortably afford it you consider donating a meal.
I went here on october and thw Slayer burguer was so good! And the milkshake completely delicious!
Looks really shady but this is one of those places where you are in for a surprise. The staff is real nice. The menu is diner style and the food is made fresh and tastes really good. The reason for the 4 star is that hey serve free sandwiches to homeless people and you also get complimentary cookies if they still have some.
This DTES restaurant/bar/community hub is so much more than what it seems. It represents hope and personifies change. Support the greasy spoon dinners and be prepared for an experience of high end diner food, community engagement and learn about how many people this place has helped.
Great Burger's, amazing Caesar's. Favorite Vancouver landmark. Don't let the area deter you from visiting this historical eatery
You might be having trouble commiting to this place based solely on the location. This little dinner style restaurant is a great spot to stop. Fresh Burgers with Local ingredients paired with a real (yes real) Ice Cream thick milk shake (with or without your favourite adult addition). The Haystack fries are a definite choice, always crispy
These guys make the best old school burger in town, it has to be on everyone´s list to try
Cheap eats and relaxed ambiance. They also do discount and charity meals for the community.
Great food, great prices, great people. A real advocate for our community!
Big burger, extra pattie with bacon. Oh, so sad that it had to end. Five stars!
Finally had the famous burger but very underwhelming. Meat patty was pretty good but toppings and condiments are just as important for a great burger. Those were really lacking including the lame lettuce and tomato slice, Swiss cheese was more like cheese sauce. The burgers I have seen on the Facebook page must be the photo shoot special. Nov 9 second take out visit and went down a notch. Salty reuben with shredded meat tossed with sauerkraut but no taste of it, small sandwich for almost $13 and ordered fish chowder but got tomato soup! Joint wasn't very busy so mistakes shouldn't happen. Sorry but won't be back a 3rd time.
Most bizarre place I've been. Went in to do an interview with HazMatMusic on a Radio Station called Save On Radio. It's a vegan/meat/radio studio. I dont know how to describe such character but it was amazing staff was willing to help make a desicion the split was unique and worked well and the people that came inside either part were not only nice but friendly aswell not judging the other side or anything (only really did the radio part had a beer from the vegan side)
This will be a good place for my grocery shopping.
I don't think you can get much better than this place. Their burgers are off the chain and don't get me started on the boozy milkshakes. The staff is always welcoming and happy to help. Seriously, try the burgers.
Food is reasonably priced and the boozy milkshakes are big enough to share!
Great, but they charge 50 cents for mustard on a burger What the hell
Great little place in Gastown. The rundown look outside belies the clean and modern diner inside. Good, simple food and great service. Their boozy shakes are rad as well!
Great diner with fair prices. They give out free sandwiches to the less fortunate and proceeds of some of the sales go back into the community.
We like the milkshakes here. You order one between two people and they will serve it in 2 separate glasses. The decor is very cute.
Modestly priced, delicious burgers. I like the 'adult' milkshakes especially. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but if you're in the area and looking for a filling lunch, this is a great option.
Today was a rough day and I needed a place with good music, kind people, and solid soul food. A lady dining by herself invited me to eat with her and shared stories about her homeland as we listened to 90's music. Thank you Domunique, Dennis, James, Sarah, Mary, Jessica & Chris of The Snug, and Mark for providing this calm, happy, and safe space. (:
I wish the veggie burger was better and they had more vegan options that weren't just asking for them not to add something.
So freaking delicious. The area is scary but the food is outstanding and worth the trip.
Great diner! I was super hungover and opted for there house burger add bacon with their mac and cheese bun which consists of two patties of mac and cheese, breaded and then deep fried. Epic is not even the word it was a thing of beauty! …
Great dinner food, giving back to the community means a win-win!
I went here once because they had marketed themselves as a "social enterprise" helping folks in the neighborhood get affordable food. I was disappointed to receive a cold rack of ribs. When I let my server know, she informed me that's how they are served, and left before I could comprehend what she had just told me. Since then, SOM has dropped its social enterprise component, deciding it wasn't worth it after all to serve the neighborhood's existing clientele. My big takeaway is that SOM doesn't care about anyone. Not the low income residents they are helping displace. Not the customers they serve undercooked food to. And they probably won't care about you, either. Stay away. It's for your own good.
Good prices and always excellent quality. Friendly , knowledgeable staff.
Great food and a funky place to eat and hang out
Food is ok, used to be better before they renewed the menu and you have to pay 4$ extras for fries (seriously?). At the end I'm not sure it's worth it for the quality. Service however has always been great.
Good Burgers and good Staff
So this place uses to be one thing but now is something else: OMG so quaint. This is not a butcher like you would think. It's actually a diner. And a pretty good one too, if you can get past the spotty service.
Cool place. Good food. Very nice and professional staff. And they will make any kind of milk shake you want
Solid burger and milkshakes. Haystack fries were nice a crunchy!
I've driven past this place for years and never stopped by. Finally I was downtown and famished and decided to try something new. I'm so glad I did! This place really is a hidden gem. Don't judge it by the area, or the exterior. Inside is clean and well decorated, and the food is spectacular!
Super nice staff, fantastic food
Old style Americana burger joint. Good burger and fries at a good price. Friendly staff.

Great lil' hole in the wall. I've dined in regularly. Servers are always kind even though I feel modify my order. Food is great for the price and they always have fresh bottomless coffee ☕ ????
The food is tasty yet the restrooms are sticky with dry old urine ....the young male servers were not very attentive
I ate here a month ago with a couple of friends and I had the worst experience. The Save-On Meats burger is totally different to what they served a few years ago.The buns on the burger that they served me on this visit were hard and over-toasted and the burger tasted bland. The server didn't even come to check up on my table after he gave us our food. I tried to get the attention to the servers but they were too busy chatting with other coworkers. The chefs in the back looked like they were doing the same, working slow and busy chatting. I used to love this place a few years ago but now I dont think I'm ever coming back. The servers and the chefs that work there now are just a bunch of slackers.
I enjoyed eating here. Probably more for the nostalgia and ambience rather than the cooking. Big booths and friendly fast service
The food is great. And so is the ambience.
Fun and quirky cheap diner. All day breakfast, build your own burger for cheap, great fries shakes and splits. A nice experience.
Lovely place. Lovely aesthetic. Lovely staff. I adore the savory chicken and waffles and "adult" milkshakes.
Food was great and the service was pretty good except that it took a while to get our food.
You CanNot deny what they do for the local community. But, ignoring that... delicious sustainable food. Choose to eat here. Make a difference.
Melissa was our bartender and server. She rocked and the food was great. The build a burger was one of the best burger I've had in ages.
Love the concept and the food is good as well!
While the location might turn you off I would recommend that you go for the food. I had the Crispy Chicken burger and it was truly delicious. Service was fast, friendly and attentive.
Save On Meats puts up a surprisingly welcome experience to Hastings area. The food is great, and service was welcoming. If one isn't paying attention to the gaudy signage of the area, it's quite easy to miss this place, since the front at street level is very unassuming. Prices are very competetive for what one gets.
Amazing place to eat. Super friendly staff, very chill diner environment and cheap but very good quality food. Plus you can't beat the $10 beer and a burger deal. Recommended to anyone.
Super tasty food, excellent friendly service. Pleasantly surprised to see that they are open at 9am during the week now.
Really good food. Just the price is a bit too high for l what they sell, in my opinion. I would go there every day if it was even a little more price friendly.
Some cool/creative dishes on the menu, such as the mystery/surprise milkshake, where you are served a milkshake with two surprise ingredients. I've had this several times and have always been pleasantly surprised with flavour combinations I've never experienced before. However, the food dishes seem to be hit and miss for consistency of quality from my limited experience. Really respect the contributions the restaurant management is associated with making in the community, but the food itself is overall OK and perhaps a little overpriced for what it is. The place does have a pretty cool retro-diner vibe.
Really great food and service at good prices. I was pleased with the meal.
Amazing food the art work displayed on the walls is wonderful. This restaurant owner is completely community oriented. Free dinners and sandwiches for the people living in the Downtown Eastside.
A new breakfast experience for me! Crispy skinny fries with lightly fried tomato slices is better than regular fries and ketchup!
All round top notch place .. It is a stitch to the downtown core . been there for a life time .. 100% be sure to go anytime im in van
This place is a hidden gem. Old style retro cafe vibe, with a lot of booths and a bunch of counter seats along the bar. Great burgers, and a decent selection of beer on tap all for really good prices. …
Great food better service! Try the hot sauce. You won't be disappointed
Great food fun staff and good prices.
Great breakfast sandwiches, with a tasting room and a radio station all under one roof. Will miss the butcher shop though.
Next door in the diner they have great milkshakes
The only reason i come here is the ability to build your own burger. The service wasn't great and, burgers don't make up for bad service. The wait for the waitresses to come get our orders was ten minutes and, we had to wait an additional forty minutes to get our burgers. However, they mixed up our two burgers and forgot my side dish. It's difficult grabbing their attention so, i had to walk up to them to ask where my side dish was. They didn't check up on us during the whole time we were waiting and eating our food, which is dry long time. So, we didn't have anything to drink.
Tasty food. Classic setting. Great supporter of the neighborhood.
This was truly the best burger I've had in Vancouver and the best I've had in a long time anywhere. It is very affordable and the fries were unreal. So good. The atmosphere, what the restaurant does for the community, and the quality of …
Not only is the food high-quality and delicious, but the staff and owners are very courteous and kind. I also love that they are deeply engaged with the local community doing fundraising, providing meals, and volunteering whenever they can in order to help make a difference.
Great food. Good value. Excellent service
It's a great place with friendly staff... coffee is real good.
Great place; they serve excellent meals. Highly recommended
One of the best burgers in Vancouver. Delicious
Had their famous burger and a side salad. Burger was good, not amazing. Service was friendly.
Great diner with delicious food. Service was superb. It was wonderful to see how the staff interact with the local community members.
Terrible. Decide on save on meats for a lunch. Find parking on my lunch break, walk two blocks. See they have a quarter chicken meal. Waitress comes over, i order the chicken. She comes back "no chicken today", i say "what else are you out of?" She says "nothing, all else is good". I order the beef dip. 3 mins later, "no beef dip". I give up. I leave, and get a cheap chinese lunch. Waste my lunch hour on a place that doesn't inform the waitresses what is available. Joke
Staff were friendly and engaging and the food was outstanding!!! The chicken and waffles are the best in the city.
My favorite Vancouver diner. Excellent food and shakes, with a strong connection to the community. Great place to eat and give back too.
I had a pleasant experience here. Our server (whom of which I have forgotten his name) was excellent! My boyfriend and I actually stumbled on this as we got lost on the downtown east side (not the best of areas in Vancouver) and really just …
Great place for dinner food and breakfast.
We weren't even sure what it would be. It's an awesome diner. We had breakfast. The food, the service, and the coffee were great
Great veggie dish in an unexpected place! As a vegetarian, I was skeptical given the name, but the veggie tofu rice bowl was amazing! So tasty and satisfying. What a treat!
Probably the best poutine & burger I've ever had in my life like wow guys *slow claps*
Good food and they help feed the homeless with customer donations
I've been here over a year ago and it was a fantastic experience with food and service. The space itself was great and unexpected for the butcher shop front from outside. Yet, I was dissappointed recently when I went with friends and they …
Not only is the food amazing but the people are truly salt of the earth. They are doing such important work for the community and you can be a part of it just by enjoying a great meal. WIN WIN
EAT HERE REGULARLY. ITS ICONIC AND REAL. FOOD IS GREAT NEW MENU ALLOWS FOR MORE VARIETY. SERVICE IS FAST AND STAFF ARE FREINDLY AND ATTENTIVE. WASHROOMS ARE VERY CLEAN AND PRIVATE. THEY HAVE A FULL BAR, WHERE YOU CAN PULL UP CHAIR OR YOU …
This place has renovated since I last visited, it's a great place to get #burgers made with fresh beef. This visit I had the crispy chicken sandwich, although it was super tasty it was on the small side, which made for a lot of extra bun. Be prepared to wait for your food, this is not #fastfood! Next time I'm trying a #milkshake
My son loves the food and the service is awesome
This place is a MUST if you're seeking a hearty Vancouver breakfast or lunch at the right price without sacrificing flavour! I had their breakfast special (two eggs, hash-browns, sourdough toast, and bacon). The hash-browns were AMAZING …
Good burgers. Nothing super special but I like the prices! Value meal.
Love the retro decor and cheap, tasty food! Can't go wrong with their reuben sammich or chicken & waffles!
Amazing food amazing staff great prices
Good food, Good prices, and service is casual , kind and awesome
Had the Rubin. Was really good a must tryfor anyone thats looking for a great sandwich. Local place a Vancouver landmark
Amazing burgers. Polite, compassionate, charming staff. Ethically grounded. Just a stand up place overall. Vancouver is a better place because of these guys.
I'm proud to say I was there on the first day! I now go once-twice a year. Reasonable and good.
great service, great food and great vibes for a decent price, what else can you ask for?
Burgers are great but don't forget about the chicken and waffles; delicious. Good, albeit, limited selection of beer on tap. A great time all around.
Best spot in the area and you can give back to the community just by dineing here, just superb
The food is a basic diner style and the menu is simple. This place makes up for all of that with an atmosphere like no other, personable staff, massive social outreach programs, creative decor, and a rich history. Very easy place to spend time. Veggie burger is delicious.
This place is one of Vancouver's hidden gems. I love the food, the atmosphere and the staff are super cool. Peices are great especially when you factor in the fact they make their own bbq sauce. Parking is close by but I prefer to take transit and walk. Neighborhood might look a bit sketchy but I have never had a problem.
Love this retro place. Great burgers...
Nice place for lunch. Their burger are good, their fries a little bit less, and they don't know how to serve a beer, but service isn't too bad in general. Prices are correct, and the place is easy to access.
Ethical and delicious! Classic music. Good vibes. It's my after gym joint in the morn near my place.
Exceptional service, fantastic food and a real community atmosphere
Good food but if they could go back to their classic burger and fries meal with that delicious sauce I'd eat there everyday (not that make a burger junk)
The burgers are so freaking good. They're almost as good as the milk shakes and those are stupid good.
$3.45 to get french fries with your burger/sandwich instead of what they call "haystack fries" which are just those Hickory Stick things you used to get as children... This was a terrible change that has kept me from coming back. The rest of the food is great.
Fried chicken and waffles is the best! Milkshakes my favs!
I wish every stranger I forcefully talk to would listen to me when I tell them to try the burgers here. The staff are also really cute and they actually treat the Hastings community like people (crazy concept vancouver?!)
It's decent, sure but I don't think it's earned all the hype and free publicity it gets. I enjoy going there, but Best Diner Ever??? Not quite there yet.
Burgers are yummy. Can't wait to try the breakfast.
Classic breakfast items. Servers are very nice and friendly.
We recently visited family in Vancouver and, upon their recommendation, we dined at Save on Meats. What a great place! The atmosphere was very welcoming and so was the staff. All of the food that we ordered was delicious with generous portions. There were several vegetarian selections. We will definitely eat here again on future visits. We need some more of those unique Haystack Fries.
Chill atmosphere, great food, good place to hangout with some friends
