I just tried this place on the weekend. Great selection and quality meat. The service is very friendly and helpful. I was on the hunt for quality braising short ribs and found them here. The ribs had lots of meat and weren't all fat! Made an amazing soy braised short rib today. This is my new favorite place to get meat.

I simply love this place, and the people who work there. For around 15 years, they’ve been my go-to butcher, shunning all others (I have tried other, many very popular ones, but … nope, not even close!) BB’s beef is just incredible; the very best I’ve ever, ever had (I honestly wish I knew why). It’s genuinely “beefy” and tender, where other purveyors—even prime cuts—tend to be bland and bubble-gummy. And speedy special orders seem to phase them little, if at all. If you need extra-thick rib-eyes, or the best prime rib you’ll ever have, do yourself a favour and pay them a visit!

To be honest, the customer service was exceptional. I was immediately greeted upon entering the store and asked what I was looking for. I mentioned that I was on a strict diet, and was looking for grass fed only beef/products. She pointed out every product in that criteria without hesitation, and even broke out the ingredients list for me to see. Refreshing experience, attention to detail and understanding. Wish other business in general could be the same! Definitely will return. Products themselves were very good, beef sausage and top sirloins were quality.

This is a great little butcher shop! The staff are knowledgeable, friendly and have a big selection of fresh meats. The have also recommended best ways to cook certain cuts I've never tried before and it always turned out great! It's definitely my go to place for a delicious dinner and entertaining.

Went in for the first time, ignored the hostile look from the owner just staring at me and was greeted warmly by a wonderful customer service lady. Looking for some beef ribs, found some frozen, great price. Do you always have these at this price? Yes We can't get rid of them so we freeze them. Thanks you have a regular customer I love these things. Went back today and the customer service lady saw me and left suddenly. The hostile owner served me. 'No. We don't have frozen and if we did it wouldn't be at the price you got last week.' 'That isn't what I was led to expect' I tried to say twice but he just talked over me and interrupted me. I left, my money and good will still in my pocket. I went to Ryan's meats and got the same deal as the nice lady previously gave me. My advice to the owner is don't try to weasel out of the promises your business makes and when customers come in your store don't talk to them, you have no social skills, based on evidence of todays interaction and you aren't very good at it. You have the same products the same suppliers and the same prices as 20 other butchers. Nothing about this joint is very special or better, in fact it's worse for customer service. My advice to shoppers is go anywhere else, my experience is this guy lashes out and is unpredictable.

We ordered Package #1 along with 5lbs boneless/skinless chicken breasts. There are 2 of us in the household and we've still got a lot of meat to go, almost a month later. Positive points I want to highlight: 1. Randy was kind enough to answer all of my questions, which I sent in multiple emails, and was very helpful in putting the package together, 2. They had our order packaged and ready to go on time, and 3. Most importantly: the meat is wonderful! Taste, flavour, texture - it's so much better than super market meat. I'm really happy we took a chance on ordering a package. We definitely recommend them, and will definitely be ordering from them again.

Love the quality of meat. Not necessarily certified organic meats but high quality and generally local I believe. Never been disappointed (who knew chicken had so much flavour). When we plan meals in advance it is nice to order exactly what we need ahead for the recipes. When we order ahead with a large order we generally get a discount as well. Also they know their product. If you ask, "I'm doing a such and such on a BBQ" or whatever they will generally tell you what cuts would work etc.

I had a craving for fajitas so decided to try out The Better Butcher based on their Google reviews. I bought 3 items. Beef jerky, skirt steak, and sausages. The jerky was really good. Nicely flavoured and not over dried. I give the jerky 5 stars. The skirt steak was a little pricey (ironic for a "cheap cut"). It was butchered with the strip width a little on the narrow side. I prefer at least twice as wide as their cut. That all said the quality was very good and after marinading for 6 hours then grilling, the carne asada tasted great and was as tender as you can get it without chemical tenderizer. I give it 4 out of 5 stars. Finally the sausages. I got Brats for myself and maple breakfast for my 7 yr old daughter (she LOVES breakfast sausages any time of day). One of the brats had the casing sliced open and 1/4 of the meat spilled out. The breakfast links weren't twisted off, and the end link had about 1/3 of the meat spilled out the end. Very poor quality control. At the table, the 7 year old took 1 bite and asked if I bought different sausages than usual. I replied "yes" and asked if she liked them. She said no and didn't eat another bite. The brats tasted ok to me, but I found them to be really heavy on the salt. 2 out of 5 stars. Overall 3 out of 5 stars due to the high prices and poor quality of the sausages. I definately won't return.

Only 4 stars cos not shopped here enough to give a well-rounded opinion. But in 3 extra-effort purchases am very pleased. A truly great in-house butcher experience is worth it. Without hesitation I recommend this 'throw-back' experience. Similar to local weekend markets without the hype!

Very helpful regarding the best cooking techniques for different types of meat, poultry and fish. Ask the BB about Instapot. And, his chicken does not shrink to half size in the oven like grocery store bought. He can give great advice on buying a Bar- B - Q. The BB takes the time to provide advice on cooking all things they sell in their shop, you just have to ask. Prime rib is a specialty and worth every cent.

Looking for meats for a fondue and found the Better Butcher on Heritage. Meat was wonderful. Picked up some meat pies while we were there and they were the best I've found in the city. We tried a cornish and a lamb curry and not disappointed. Flaky pastry and perfect spicing.

We have sous vide ribeye steaks from this place and it is always disappointing in flavor for some reason. I haven't had a problem with ribeyes from Sobey's, Safeway or Superstore, those always taste great.

If they don't have what you want, they'll get it. Their housemade sausages are amazing, and we rarely eat any other kind. They've also done a great job of managing covid. Wish I could give more than 5 stars! I had heard of this butcher from friends and have really liked their meat, service, and it is very reasonably priced. I had not told them that i was using their meat in a Kansas City BBQ Society sanctioned BBQ competition this past weekend, and had bought meat off the shelf. My smoked pork butt placed 2nd, brisket was top at the table of judges it went through, but they were stingy with their points so it placed 13th (it was the best brisket i have ever tasted and i am still enjoying the leftovers). My timing was off on my chicken and ribs and they were done too early and did not place as well. I will definitely be a repeat customer!!

Love this place. It's my go to for steaks... I recommend the baseballs. Also make sure to grab some jerky that sits in baskets above the meat counter. Oh and jalapeño bacon for Sunday mornings.

Simply the best butcher shop in Calgary. Just finished a 12oz broiled NY steak. The BEST steak I have eaten since my last BB steak. Every year I order a 10-12lb rolled prime rib roast to BBQ at the lake (use a Weber kettle). Superb doesn't even begin to describe it. Beef (obviously), pork, chicken, lamb, sausages, best bacon I have ever bought (their in-store variety), seasonal fresh turkeys and more. Great store run by great people.

The service is very friendly & knowledgeable , but their maple breakfast sausage is the best I have ever had . The beef & onion sausage tastes like an entire Shepards pie in your mouth . The lemon pepper sausage is super good , and the sausage prices are very reasonable for such high quality. Usually a small line up to get in . A really good butcher is few and far in-between
