Always delicious! I used to buy their products all the time when they were stocked at independent. Now the stand alone store is a little out of my way so I don't but it as much. Prices are usually only a little more than what you'd pay for comparable cuts at a chain store, but being artisanal, you should expect that shoping here. The quality however, is far far beyond a chain store. Hams are particularly delicious. Sausages, steaks, even ground meats, are great! Highly recommended to everyone. Plus, somewhat local as well!

Up to this point always had great service, a quality product and fair pricing. As in previous years i always pre-ordered a prime rib for Christmas. Did the same this year and got a quoted cost of around 70. For around 3kg. When it arrived it was 2.8kg at a cost of 125. When i voiced my displeasure, I was told to take it or leave it. It was two days before Christmas so it didn't have any options but to take it and eat the huge difference in price. Needless to say, I will no longer recommend them and get my meats elsewhere.

I have been to Messinger for lunch and it is delish! Especially the Schnitzel on Mondays. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is delightful. Review is overdue. I love this place and am grateful it is in our community. We first went in out of curiosity and a desire to spend more locally. It was a pleasant surprise to find that such high quality meat is so affordable. Flavor-wise, it blows the supermarket out of the water. I more fully understand what Alberta beef really has to offer, and truly believe it is among the best out there. Everyone behind the counter is friendly and knowledgeable when you place an order, and the stock of ready-to-go offerings also never disappoint. It was the actually the ready-made meatballs we had for dinner that prompted me to write this review. Holy cow! :)

Sorry but your Piedmontese beef is nothing like the Italians one, it can not be as your cows drink Canadian water, breath Canadian air and feed on Canadian food, I was very disappointed in the flavour, not even close to the Italian one.

This was our first visit, and we will definitely be back! The service here is outstanding, and all the staff are super friendly. We were there for lunch and had the pork chops, roasted potatos, and veggies, and it was all so good, especially the gravy! The portions are quite large so we just shared one and we're comfortably full after. It's definitely a great deal for what you get! Also bought some schnitzel and a roast from the counter to try at home. If you haven't made a trip to this little gem yet, I highly recommend it!

Fantastic local restaurant! We come almost every Saturday for lunch and it is always great! I can't emphasis how large the portions size is for the money. Most times we get 2 meals out of one order. Excellent atmosphere and an olde Towne butcher shop with fantastic meat! I highly recommend trying it out!

Their pepperoni is wicked, there's a lot of talent going into their cured meats. Also the portion sizes are very generous when you order a meal. Prices are really good for what you get on the plate. Staff is pleasant and knowledgeable. Definitely check them out on your way through Red Deer.

This is my go-to-vendor for the most amazing Piedmontese beef!! Nothing compares. Love their meet products and friendly staff. Lunch specials are by far best deal in town. The serving size typically enough for two meals! We love having lunch date here!

Made a special order which I was told was no problem. There was a mix up with my order and it wasn't in on the original day of pickup. Was then told they could bring it in the next day no problem. Came back the next day and my order was once again forgotten. This derailed a long planned meal for us and was a major letdown. They do have great product but seem to have organization issues around bringing in special orders.

The bistro at lunch time is super delicious. Good value for the money, the portions are generous. My spouse and I added a soup to our meal and there was more than enough to split between us. Good looking desserts too. Lots of seating. The extra parking in the back is appreciated. Best of all, you can pick something tasty up for dinner while you are here for lunch!

Love all the meats. There are German style sausages readily available that you can't find anywhere else without a special order. No fillers means no gluten and keto friendly. The apple bacon sauce is very versatile in my opinion. Even my dogs get a treat with the smoked pigs ears.

This shop is amazing. I walked over thinking I'd go in and see the typical small butchers case and maybe a bored employee staring at thier phone, putting it down as I came in, greeting me hello. No way. I walked the front door and was immediately suprised at how large it is in there. I walked around checking everything out. Prices are good, products look great! And the staff is very friendly and efficient. I ordered a coffee and a breakfast plate. The plate took a bit, this isn't your Denny's restaurant, but wow when it came out! My eggs were cooked perfectly, which will always win me over. The plate is large, I couldn't finish it, but only just. Great price on it as well. This place is lovely! Check it out!

We picked up the lunch soup and sandwich combo to go. We selected some fresh pork schnitzel and bison smokies while our sandwiches were being made! The Chicken Fajita soup was amazing! The sandwiches were packed full and so flavourful ❤ We already know the fresh meats will be delicious as always!

We have been buying our meat from them for over 7 years. I cant find find any beef comparable. Today we had the breakfast. We had the butchers block which included sausage, bacon, smoked pork, potatoes, beans, eggs, some fruit and a croissant. Will definately be returning. Be sure to come with an empty stomach because the portion is huge.

Just for anyone that was curious, I actually went out and compared the Piedmontese steaks from Messinger Meats with the same cut steak from a Calgary butcher shop and Costco. All steaks were cooked over lump charcoal and cooked to about medium rare. I did add seasoning before I slapped the steaks on the grill. Simply put, there was more marbling present in the typical steaks from both the Calgary butcher shop and Costco. Also, the Piedmontese steaks were thinner than what you'd normally expect (it looks to be 3/4-inch vs 1-inch that is normally expected) but they smelled great (I think they are preseasoned with garlic powder?) All in all, of the three steaks, I did expect to enjoy the ribeye steak from the Calgary butcher shop the best: it was bigger, thicker, had more marbling, and it was more expensive! BUT I was actually still hungry when I finished this steak. This was a large steak too. When I tried the Piedmontese steak, I really didn't expect to be full and I didn't expect it to be juicy but I was dead wrong. It was really juicy, it tasted great and I was actually full! Even though this was a physically smaller steak and had less marbling, this was a CLEAR winner for me. I don't know why this is the case but I bought it again and it was the exact same thing. Then I tried another grocery store steak (bigger, more marbling, more expensive) and I was still hungry. I owe Messinger Meats an apology because the butcher actually DID tell me his steaks would beat any grocery store steak but I didn't really believe him. I didn't challenge him or anything, I just silently acknowledged my doubt. I am a very happy customer and will continue to buy my ribeyes from Messinger Meats. I encourage everyone to do the same: buy a steak here and at another butcher, cook em and eat em. Let your tongue tell you whats better. For me, mine said Messinger Meats.

I have always been able to pick them most amazing cuts of meat here. Today I discovered the cheesecake from Grace Alyse Sweets! It was so good that I had ordered 2 more flavors for pick up next week, BEFORE I was finished my slice. EDIT: I have since learned that my favourite butcher and Grace Alyse Sweets no longer operate at this location. It's too bad because I enjoyed the work of both of these people, so will go to where they have moved to, so I can keep enjoying the products and standards I love so much!

My husband went for lunch as his friend Morris said they had big loaded sandwiches but was disappointed at the small baguette size sandwiches on a plate and no to order sandwiches like Big Bend . He agreed it was a nice place but said he was hoping for an actual sandwich and soup lunch menu. The meals were more than he could eat although they looked good. Big Bend Market appeals more to him as they cut the bread and load up a big sandwich. He was going to have coffee but as a pre-diabetic he can't have sugar and there was no Splenda provided and the manager he spoke to did not take his request seriously .

An interesting place that combines deli and butcher. The quality of cuts are very good and the sit down food is of very good quality. It can get a bitnloud in there at times of course particularily around meal times. At times I find myself almost shouting when it gets busier. Still worth it to go there despite the crowd. Selection can be a bit wanting at times when it comes to the fresh meat on display. It has a good variety of other items which are frozen. Worth a look at any rate. Decide for yourself from there.

What a gem! I assumed that Messinger Meats was your average butcher with grocery products. I had no idea that they offer some of the best prepared meals in the city! When you walk in the store, you first see a grocery section and checkout counter. Head further back, though, and you'll find restaurant seating a second counter where you can order meals to eat in or take out to go. The meals are all homestyle cooking with selections of warm sides. On this first visit, shared among four people, we had: - Schnitzel burger with roasted potatoes - Beef brisket with scalloped potatoes - Pork hock with braised cabbage The meats were all incredible. The pork hock was rich having been cooked on the bone with the fatty skin, the brisket was fall apart tender and the schnitzel was well seasoned with complementary toppings. Even the sides were delicious and rich, particularly the scalloped potatoes. At $13 to $15 per meal, these were an excellent value as the portions are all huge. Service was very friendly as well. My only word of warning is that they can get busy and (as can happen in restaurants with good homemade cooking) and items can run out. But, their order-at-the-counter setup makes for the speediest service possible. I can't wait to return and try more dishes!
