YYC's best kept secret!! We happened upon this shop a few months ago in search of a unique cut and have since been back weekly to shop for our meat. Prices are very reasonable (just a touch more than what you would pay at Co-Op or Safeway butcher), but the quality is exceptional and it's all locally sourced. Their service is absolutely first class - they go out of their way to make tailored recommendations, special cuts, whatever you need to make your meal perfect. I drive across the city weekly to buy our meat here and am excited to see what they have in store every week.

Been shopping here for almost 30 years(old and new). Sadly, it's turned into a bougie (bourgeois) place now, which caters to Calgary's elite. The meat is still top notch, but reasonably priced. It's not the little NW secret operating out of the old small hole-in-the-wall, but it's still the best butcher in Calgary.

If you're not sure how to cook the particular cut that you bought they have two chefs on-site that can provide instructions. The butcher's there are very knowledgeable. What a find! I recently stumbled upon Master Meats and it doesn't look like your typical butcher shop. It is immaculate, trendy and the clerk that attended the counter was courteous and full of information about their products. I am looking forward to tasting the whole chickens I purchased... no hormones or antibiotics and they are free range. My only request would be if they sold chicken feet for broth making at home.

With the price of meat these days we went for a side where, along with the better quality, we notably saved $$$ instead of buying individual cuts from big box stores. Great quality and price. Company has always taken food safety seriously. They are able and willing to cut to order on the spot, making any recipe possible. Ask them to pinroll cut a lamb leg and they'll do it, no questions asked, saving time and hassle at home. They vacuum seal meat specially cut if you ask for it. One time we wanted chicken legs and they were low, and without me asking, they lopped the legs off their whole chickens right away. You can order a frozen Turkey and schedule a pick-up date, and ask to have it defrosted for that date. They'll do it in their cooler, where it's a safer and more constant temperature than your fridge at home. This place is more than meat with prices. There are all sorts of services they offer and don't charge for, because it's what they feel butchery is. They offer them without even asking. The owner is superb gent and his staff are amazing under his leadership. Great butcher.

I am sad to say that my family and I will never return to master meats. As I once used to love the business they had hurriedly kicked my family out because they rather care about making sales than being an inclusive and family friendly environment to shop in. I understand with Covid that these rules make things difficult. However if you invite the WHOLE family in, you shouldn’t rush them out the door especially when they’re dropping 400$ at your place for your so called gourmet meats. I am appalled and hurt that your business lacks general common courtesy. We will not return. As a warning to any other families looking to shop here!! Make sure you know what you want before you go in! Or else the rude staff will kick you out.

It's a difficult time during COVID so maybe their priority is to get ppl in and out as fast as they can. But for new customers who just want a good local butcher and who have never been to a butcher shop, I don't even know anything about what I just purchased. I left feeling like maybe I'll just go to the grocery store instead so I don't have to feel intimidated in asking for help. It was busy and a lineup started. Only 3 ppl are allowed in at the same time. They have a board up listing all the prices inside the store.

This is a nice new location for Master Meats and good service, but the quality of product poor. We recently spent $80 on a couple racks of beef ribs (which is pricey, but we thought it’s a high quality butcher so it’s worth it). We marinated and slow baked the ribs and they were so gristly and fatty it wouldn’t have mattered how much effort we had put into preparing and cooking them. A family dinner disaster and $ down the toilet that we really can’t afford. We were so disappointed. We’ve bought chicken breasts from them a few times also as the grocery chicken always seems so watery and tasteless. But their chicken at twice the price isn’t any better. It pays to be vegetarian. We won’t ever be back to this place.

Master meats in Sydney is hit and miss with their products and sale prices. Some days you'll find great deals and others you won't find anything any cheaper than the other local grocer's but when they do have sale items they're usually great savings and worth the trip. Unfortunately they don't have flyers or other advertising so you have to go in and keep your fingers crossed. Inconsistent products are carried. They may have something for a few weeks to a month and then it's gone off the shelves. The staff are somewhat friendly, some days more than others. Some days you'll get a smile, other days you'll get a frown. Lately there is alot foreign workers there, a few of which who are a little difficult to understand when asking them questions.

I bought the most amazing centre cut tenderloin for a beef wellington, and it was by far the best meat I've ever purchased. Coming from Ontario for this renowned shop. 2pm and 3 people in front. Staff gentleman was quite helpful and give me valuable recommendations for my dinner. Got T-bone, sirloin roast and soup bones. How good? Best bang for the buck. You can get a large T-bone for $20 which most fine diners selling for $69+ and Costco rarely sell for $30+. Other big chains? They don’t carry it. Haha. No weird taste, tender, grassy and melting fat Alberta beef. Hard to be fabricated or replicated. Beef from Japan is another taste while cost goes 10x. Oh btw, I don’t mind people who persist to wear a mask as long as they don’t have car insurance, don’t have a credit score, don’t have a job, don’t pay any taxes, drink and drive with families, and/or etc. But you will certainly miss this great butcher then while I am still immersed by the meat flavor out of the mouth. A mask costs less than $1. But a great steak costs endless. Yet you can get a great one here for $20. My trip ends fast and soon I will be having the flavorless steak in Metro or Sober’s. I will try to pack a carry-on full of Master Meats.

The bacon was epic! Stopped in for some meat for our raclette grill. Staff were knowledgeable and helped us pick out some sirloin and it was on sale! He hand cut the meat thinly. Noticed on their board that they had “epic bacon” and enquired about it. Turns out it is just bacon. Fair. Bacon is epic. But this truly is epic bacon, it cooked nicely and didn’t leave a grease mess in the kitchen. Would like to shop here more but hours of operation making that challenging.

As far as I can tell, the only *REAL* butcher in Calgary. All the other "specialty" butchers get their cuts from a few common sources, so you're not getting anything special. I think these guys get the whole cow. There's a cut of steak that I love that the big commercial slaughterhouses I guess throw out for the sake of efficient butchering, and it's almost impossible to find. I called tons of butchers and tried to arrange special orders unsuccessfully until I found these guys. I won't tell you what cut it is, because I want it all to myself, but in some countries this cut of steak sells for almost as much as tenderloin, yet no one in Canada realizes how good it is. I'll need more time to definitively judge the quality of their meat, but the cuts I bought had impressive marbling relative to what I've seen in the country I discovered this cut in, so I was very content.

Shop here once a month and stock up on all my meats. They are, compared to Sobeys and even No Frills, cheaper. Plus I know it is Canadian beef and poultry and not expensive American garbage. The staff are great, good looking, and friendly. Make sure they cut you a prime rib roast. Best I ever had.

I wandered in this butcher shop one day in search for some meat for lunch and they recommended some bone in lamp chop for a great price. Those were the best lamb chop I ever had! They were fork tender, you can literally cut it with ur fork! I stop by today to grab some burger and steak, can’t wait to try them!

Awesome! We have been buying all our meat products from Master Meats for well over 5 years now. Best quality and price around for that quality. Have never been disappointed. Sometimes I have to buy a few items from the supermarket in a pinch (2-3 times a year). And my family can sure taste the difference. Also, whenever we cook for friends they all comment on how great the food is, best food ever, and I seriously believe it's mostly due to the quality of the product. Came from Sundre, Googled a meat shop close to where we were headed found master meats, so clean and well laid out, all of my questions were answered, bought several items but the 2" thick ribeye steaks I requested were beyond compare. We are big steak eaters and have eaten steak everywhere we have travelled, restaurants and cooking for ourselves , these were by far the best steaks we have had , so tender at a rare for me and a medium for my husband, I will go to sleep dreaming of these steaks tonight.
