We found everything we needed and a whole lot more. Trips to Capital Iron are often like that!
Aside form getting a great deal on some kitchen stuff I needed today, I found a tamagoyaki pan in their stock. I couldn't believe that they carried such a speciality item! I wouldn't have expected to find one outside of one of the Japanese market stores. And the staff were incredibly helpful, despite being pretty busy.
Always interesting to walk through and a good selection of outdoor streetwear and jackets! Cool outdoor furniture etc in the summer!
Incredibly unique store, with plenty of selection and lots of friendly staff! They somehow always seem to have what I need. There really is no store like it!
I love this store. Theyve always got a bit of everything. Great helpful staff.
Unique store with huge variety of great items. Camping, kitchenware, clothes, shoes, hardware, gardening, antiques, and more!
ALWAYS GOOD ! EXCEPT WHERE'S THE CASHIER DOWNSTAIRS ! COME ON LIGHTEN UP !$$$ EMPLOY CASHIER !!
great selection and a unique store. Great discovery!
Enjoyed the store and fantastic customer service.
There really is no store like it. I love visits here as the clothes, shoes, kitchen, outdoor and gifts are awesome. It's pet friendly too and they offer free parking. I miss the fabric and furniture. We visit quite frequently as it's the type of place you enjoy time and again. Pretty sure they still offer a student discount.
Awesome place. Has a little of everything. Service is awesome. Thanks Jack !
Love Capital Iron ~ so many wonderful items for your home.
A great selection of outdoor gear and hard to find/specialty items for your home.
Boring place but if you need pots or house hold items you can find them here.
They let dogs in, always have neat sales, and they have such a variety you never leave empty handed!
Cool place with lots of great deals.
Lots of selection and even some things you didn't know you needed!
Quirky department store with a wide variety of quality goods. Particularly great for kitchen stuff and camping gear.
I phoned around looking for a clothes line set up in the backyard. Found it in hardware. The people that ans. right away are great almost makes you want to meet them. The people in the dept. are just as helpful couldn't be better Tried around the corner at the old Rona. Disappointed big time didnt seem to know squat then rudely said i could look on line just as he could, thanks pal. Sure hope Lowe's gets it act together.
Lots of cool stuff for silly high prices. You can get everything they have at other businesses for much less. As well I've seen the management take sides with a really unpleasant, borderline abusive, customer rather than trust their own employee.
Great store for housewares, patio furniture, BBQs, hardware, and so much more. A local icon. Recommended.
Great staff in camping/fishing dept.
Positive: alot of unique items that can be found here, includes men's/women's wear, kitchen, hardware, camping and outdoor equipment. Think of Sears in the old days. …
Good selection and wide variarion of products. Nice staff. Helpful.
This is a great location! They have everything I need for backpacking. The staff are pretty knowledgable and can help you pick out gear. It's missing a star for two reasons. One, because they are often out of stock. With the pandemic, so many people have been buying out camping stores, and capital iron hasn't kept up. Secondly, because their website is pretty lacking. I have to call to check stock, and I've had some issues with communication to be sure that what I need is there. Other than that, this store is great.
One of the best 'general stores' anywhere.
I love quirky stores like this you'll find hiking gear, rubber boots, housewares, crab traps, a good selection of hardware, clothes, the list goes on. Great customer service too. I sent an email inquiring if they carried a particular product. Within 15 minutes I had a reply telling me they don't stock what I was looking for but directing me to a store that does carry it. Thanks.
I have generally liked Capital Iron in the past. Nice kitchen section. However, this Christmas I purchased an LED flower tree when the Christmas items were on sale. The first one had a light die immediately (lights are not replaceable) so I took it back. The second one was broken when I took it out of the box, and also had a dead light. Exchanged it again. The third one was also broken and missing two flower pieces, but they gave me some spare flowers so I fixed it myself. However, two months in and now four lights are dead. I am passed the point of returning it so I have just wasted money. I am very disappointed that they would sell such a shoddy product and I will be wary of buying anything like this from them in the future.
Love it !!! Its our own, been here since way back they used to pull the ships right up into the back parking lot and start the dismantling process, they have been good neighbours.
A Victoria fixture. I miss the days of them actually selling "iron" :) A bit of a strange assortment of items. Chances are if you haven't seen it in years or can't find it elsewhere ... Capitol Iron might still be selling it. Good for BBQ's and kitchen gadgets. Outdoor dept. OK but can't quite compete with the other shops in the area. Bulk nut and bolt selection is comprehensive and well organized.
Great local Canadian company. Wonderful camping and fishing gear. Garden supplies. If you looking for a Kitchen item you can't find anywhere else they most likely have it. And any outside items BBQs hot tubs. The Store st. has lots of antiques in the basement. As the tag line say there is no store like it.
Great shop that has a bunch of different things for sale, good selection of clothes and camping gear.
I love the fact that they stock quality gear
Always loved this place. Make sure you check out the basement and the garden center. Great place for camping/fishing, kitchen and garden or any sort of outdoor related activity
Very nice store. Huge inventory
Not much in the way of hardware or marine there anymore.
Bought a smoker from the store, went in to order a thermal blanket for the smoker. I was told I would have to leave a deposit because it was special order, no problem, deposit paid. I get a call from store saying that I should have paid for the entire amount of item and they will not order the item until I come back and pay in full, and that somehow I was never told that I would have to only pay a deposit, I must have made that part up in my mind, and that the manager had the employee who helped me right beside him and he never said that to me. I live at least a 30 min drive each way from the store. The item is $60, I have paid for 1/3 it, I would have easily paid the whole amount if I was told I had to. Whoever I spoke with on the phone was super rude. I will come back just to get my deposit, but you have lost a customer for life..
Something for everyone! Friendly knowledgeable staff, and fair prices. Bought a lovely terra cotta pot for 25% off.
If your a visitor, a must store to see. The most interesting retailer in Victoria
What a neat place! They pretty much sell everything, and everything is good quality and well priced. I love browsing around with my pup :) A great local family business.
Loads of fun. Great nick knacks take your time a spend a hour or so here and I'm sure you will find just the right thing to take home
I appreciate that Covid has changed a lot of things, but I felt like there was a going out of business sale about to erupt. There were empty spots on shelves and walls everywhere and a general lack of energy to the store. I used to enjoy browsing there and could always find something t o buy that was interesting or fun. Not today by any stretch.
Disappointed with the customer service upstairs . I had to return a defective product . I found returning this product with great difficulty . I was treated like a child and had to push the fact that I was told I could return this product without any issues , it's written on the receipt. I will not go back , will not recommend shopping here. Be nice to customers , do not treat them like children .
Fantastic!!!! Service was friendly & helpful. Wonderful selection of everything. Looooove the kitchen section. Just a greaaat store.
Great Store for Hardware and BBQ's Thanks to the two John's that did Hardware and Mr. Sharman in BBQ. "No Staff Like IT" *****
Good outdoor, home and hardware store with random knickknacks. Kids usually like it too
Love this store, great staff
This is one of my favourite stores in Victoria. It has many different sections: camping/outdoors, men's and women's clothes, kitchenware, holiday/memorabilia, patio ware (bbqs) and even hot tubs (personally haven't done much with those yet). Fun place even for someone who doesn't like shopping.
One of my favorite stores, a whole mix of household, hardware, outdoors and just miscellaneous stuff. Helpful and friendly staff as well, this location is definitely worth a visit if you are downtown and need something specific or just wanting to browse
Super interesting store! It's massive with 3 floors and they even set up sale tents in the parking lot sometimes. They carry all sorts of housewares, outdoors gear, toys, hardware, clothing, it's all over the place. They opened another location in Langford now as well.
Bought a patio set- couch cushion seam split one week after I bought it. Called to see if I needed to bring the whole set back to get a new cushion. Received terrible customer service over the phone. Young girl on the phone made me feel sorry for calling. Not cool.
Eclectic hardware store. Good selection of kitchen items. A little less made in North America items than I would like to see. Huge collection of barbeques in the basement. Bought Paderno pan, baking stone and kitchen storage items all at decent price. Has camping, fishing and small marine section.
Awesome place, everything you need for your home... Very helpful staff, they unpackaged the aeropress vs aeropress Go for me to see the difference. Great place
If the zombies apocalypse ever come this is where im heading! Locally owned and they have everything from bike lights, camping gear, gum boots and furniture. There is always something I want from here
This store is iconic to local Victorians and has a huge array of quality products, including one of the very few places to find fatboys (best beanbag chairs on the planet). Their prices are reasonable (camping gear on par with MEC and supporting local business ????????????) and the staff look like they have fun (they were flying a pretty tiny drone around the store having a blast when I was in).
Basically a toy store for adults. Keep the purse string tight or you'll lose it all. Careful all ye who enter here.
I walked in and realized there was no store like it!
Lot of practical things.. bolts, nuts hooks wheels ... clothing boots , fishing, gardening, lot of grills at sutarrain . Toys just multi hoby shop
Thought it was going to be better from what we were told. But it's a clean store and friendly staff.
It has always been THE place where you can find anything that you want or need for living on an island and in particular a coastal city, but it truly is worth a look to see what you can find for maybe a project that you might not be thinking about at the time, then bam you see the perfect thing that you need to get the job done. I heard that C.I. was closing, that will be a sad day for the city, but hey look at all the condos that can be put on the property (NOT).I am going to miss this place when it does close and I hope that the rumors of C.I. is closing are false rumors and I'm still getting to shop there for a long time to come. So if the rumors are true I would at least expect a similar type store to be in the retail store fronts of the condo building, but you could also make at least 6 different shops to replace the original C.I. long live CAPITAL IRON...
Unique store. Hard to find items are sold here. I did most of my Christmas shopping here.
I understand Capital Iron is doing amazingly well during the pandemic, as people turn to beautifying their spaces. We also love to keep our dollars local as much as possible. Sadly, customer service has not kept pace with their burgeoning sales. Our most recent visit was to buy a barbeque cover. Not a huge purchase for sure, but we've bought barbeques there and other significantly valued over the years. The sales clerk gestured to where they were, questioned if we'd got the right measurements (we had) and walked away, leaving us to figure it out. Not the first time, I had a similar experience with a different person in housewares. Our solution, go online and avoid this place at all costs going forward.
Most days there will be a hotdog stand across the street called “mr. tubesteak”. They are the best hotdogs ever please buy them
This place is sooooo cool, they have nearly everything you need, plus things you didn't even know existed
Interesting store and space with a lot of character and extensive choice. A place to visit for sure, especially if you are looking for... any of so many things.
They have nice collections of everything. The only problem is that they have higher price. I go there from time to time for the nice options they have.
It's changed from funky with great deals to high end expensive.
I have purchased their frog pond parking for three years, but my car still had been towed away twice! First time, the third party agreed to refund for the towing, but MR. Greene, capital iron parking lot manager, never refund that money to me, he might have eaten stolen that money. Since he had the lease of the parking lot, he started towing people's cars. THeir is very limited spots at frog pond and that parking is shared with ocean river customers. So my spot has been taken by somebody else for many times. I tried calling Mr. Greene, who never replies. And my car was towed away again and again. I parked there almost everyday, he must know my car very well, but still towed my car away without asking me. He is really a bad guy. "THERE IS NO STORE LIKE IT", of course, it tows your cars away!!! They are good at making money, they tow your cars away directly.THeir store general manager is not helpful at all, I asked her what should I do if my spot been taken again next time, she answered "Ask MR. Greene". Very good! They all are not responsible people at all, they don't care customers. Just wonder how they can keep their business. Oh ya, towing cars!
Was standing there for 45 minutes while 3 employees was socializing. Tried to get their attention without luck. Worst hardware store around.
Very helpful staff in the bbq section. Great selection
Unique store. Something for everyone and everything is so unique. Quaint meandering store with 3 levels and an elevator at the rear of the store for those who need it.
Sad to see such a great hardware type store go down hill as much as it has, mostly since the start of covid restrictions, it's also very sad to see that there main supplies most likely come from China. Hopefully more suppliers from the west will fill the many holes.inthere stock. Looks like a store closing type store right now
They had exactly what I was looking for!
An old time favourite general store that is still current today. Very helpful staff.
Terrible online information. E catalogue doesn't show prices or statistics on merchandise. Would not encourage me to shop in their store. If they can't show prices online why would I want to shop online and why would I want to go to their store?
Great store. Fantastic customer service.
Pet friendly and the store lives up to its reputation "when you cant find it ....capital iron has it"
2 floors of things 2nd floor fishing, and camping things, and an iron pirate with a steering wheel of a ship, all in Iron. 1st floor when you walk in an iron piece belongs to a ship, I asked the cashier she didn't know. There is an elevator if you can't do the stairs.
Fun hardware store with good seasonal selections.
Customer service from the bbq dept is terrible. Will shop online elsewhere instead.
Can get twice the amount of charcoal for half the cost in Canadian Tire. Poor value for charcoal.
Very friendly staff always ready to help. Nice products
Great selection as always and convenient hot dog stand across the road
Amazing range of stock items. Can find just about everything you would think a hardware store would carry and lots of other things as well. ????
Unique store. Always find some interesting to buy.
Get there quickly while they still exist
Much better than Canadian Tire for many things. The stuff I've bought here was cheaper than at C.T., and they actually have clerks who know about what they're selling.
Great prices, good selection on an unexpected mix of different areas to buy from. Camping gear, clothes, kitchen ware, tools and hardware. Always good deals and discounts to find, too.
Hello!!! It's capital iron. Seriously what a great place with lots of cool things for the house and yard that are great quality at a very reasonable price. Can't go in without getting something cool. Believe me we have tried.. they have a great selection of high end bbq's also.
I worked here many years ago so I have always had a close feeling of connectedness to the place...I know the store probably better than some of today's staff and I worked there twenty years ago. It has certainly changed considerably over the years in many ways yet still has a homey feel about it today.
Love this store! All your outdoor desires ????
Always find what I'm looking for and at a reasonable price.
Capital Ion is a great place to get those things you need to find in one place. From hardware, kitchen, camping and hiking to workwear and more your one stop location check it out.
Why 1 star? A staff member showed me the lawn chairs with swivel bases at half price with a letter size ad attached, so I took 2. Also noticed some flip flops marked down so took both down the huge stairs to the till. Had to wait... and wait while the girl on the till figured out how to do something, then rang up both items at full price. I gave her the price (flip flops clearly marked at reduced price,) only to have both attendants tell me "sorry, those are not the lawn chairs that ore on sale". I made a strong case about a sign being on them saying 50% off, but more disagreement. I asked one if them to call the camping Dept only to have someone there say they are not on sale so had to demand the strongest nay Sayer to follow me . Physically led her to the chairs with the sign (identical to mine) and finally had agreement on price. No apology. When they wrong up the flip flops it was at original price, not sale. She corrected this, but when she wrong in the whole purchase again, chairs were at reduced price but once again flip flops were at full. I have been an ambassador for Capital Iron for many years but sorry to say, no more! Being slack on updating your merchandise tags, essentially accusing your clients of lying is not how to retain them. Treating your clients with distrust & distain will not cause them to hurry back. Get it together Capital Iron or slowly & painfully, down the tubes you will go. Don't even think about blaming your demise on online shopping. It is happening at your own careless hands!
It was great to be there again. I don't live in Victoria anymore but look forward to going in and looking around. Great place and very friendly staff. I will have to return.
Fun store to take people new to Victoria! They have a little of everything. It's a bit more expensive than other places tho.
Super fun ever changing and quirky! Love to go when visiting from Vancouver
There's no store like it.
Meh we were touring through and it was one of the places someone told us is a must go to see... I didn't find anything special about it with the merchandise or anything. The building was really cool and the history of it is really cool. I would never go back. There's nothing I need there. Also they didn't have tap for credit card so I couldn't buy anything anyway.
Always go here for high end outer wear and footwear. Always manage to find things that I want on sale.
Love the place for some items but it certainly isn't the economical "institution" of the past. Had an intestesting discussion with a staff member in their BBQ section about items "on sale" yet costing more than MSRP? Its rather unfortunate that this family destination has lost its draw. I will continue to support local yet need to shop around more.
You will be surprised at some of the strange items for sale here.
Great place to check out all kinds of camping and outdoors gear
Great store with helpful staff. Avast alternative to MEC for camping gear
They were very helpful in choosing products. They had what we needed in stock.
What an interesting store, with an eclectic selection, great prices, and helpful, friendly staff.
Great place for shopping ????❤
Its kind of a fun place to walk through but over the past few years they seem to have had some inventory problems. On several visits they have had very limited products in their kitchen department.
The downtown store is in a heritage building. Large free parking lot and a store like no other. Great selection of outdoor gear, camping gear and BBQ, firepits and outdoor furniture.
Good selection of bulk hardware that other shops don't carry
Always a great place to wander and find what you didn’t know you needed
Used to be good with reasonable prices. Now not so much.
Lots of items. Prices seem to be on the high side. Lots of parking.
Little pricey but knowledgeable staff and services
They have tons of stuff, clothes, kitchen stuff, tools, outdoor gear. Sales can be found towards the end of the season. However, same things can be found online for cheaper.
Worst retail website ever. I was rudely given "general" info when I inquired about a specific product over the phone. Was told I have to come and look for myself. I wouldn't of had to phone, but they have the worst retail website I have ever seen. Absolutely No info on any products and prices. They force you to go down to the store instead. That's where you find out why they don't show prices on their website. Everything is terribly over-priced. Terrible policy. We'll shop somewhere else.
This place is always fun to walk through, you can find some unique items here. Also the garden section is great in the summer.
This general store is a Victoria landmark and Store Street is the home base. Tools, garden, kitchen, outdoors and work clothes. I've found some really good buys especially when they have shoe and outer wear clearances. If there is an odd hardware item where the big box stores are letting you down Capital Iron is worth a look. The kitchen section is also extensive.
Decent store with kitchen, garden, camping and sports\outdoor gear. Process rival MEC, though perhaps for lower quality on cheaper items.
Large selection of varied goods and always worth a stroll through to see the different offerings
Tons of cool unique stuff
Capital Iron is always a great place to shop. Lots of unusual items. Staff are always very helpful and pleasant. Jarrod in the Christmas shop solved a light problem we had in 2 minutes. Thanks again Jarrod.
I got a nice bowling shirt here and all my friends think its real sharp. Thanks to the crew at capital iron for holding on to the shirt while i ran to the car to increase my street parking time. i have attached an image that isnt the shirt i bought but quite a similar one
Capital Iron, my childhood!, my daughter's childhood!! Leave the car at home. Great location to shop, eat and photograph! (The basement is the FUNNEST antique/second hand store around!).
Great selection of just about every thing
A very good telephone experience! Answered promptly, transferred to the department I needed and helped right away by very friendly staff.
It's lovely that you can bring your dog here however the customer service is not great. Apart from my dog getting attention from one of the sales clerks I had to wander the isles to find what I needed. I gave up and finally came up to the desk where two clerks were looking at photos on a phone and chatting. I stood there and waited. Neither of them looked up at me. I waited a bit longer and politely asked for help. The cashiers were friendly and effecient.
I just hope they don't lose all that rich haritage .
Wonderfully diverse store. People need to support local businesses like these!
A huge selection of bits and bobs - Its the only place downtown where you could probably find everything you need. And there's a student discount!
Happy to support a great local business. The staff is great.
A wide selection of men's & women's clothing, shoes, boots. Kitchen, outdoors, camping, hardware, work wear and more. Sales rotate and can find good sales on stuff that is near end of season. Window shoppers can easily spend hours here!
Quirky everything store
Honestly such a cool store, I love it! But the cashier I had was beyond rude... I believe she was the cashier manager? I almost wanted to walk out. Basic questions with extremely rude responses. Everyone else I interacted with was very kind. Except her.
Joel in the garden furniture department was super helpful getting all our questions answered. Not often you see people go the extra mile...or 10 yards;)
Nice staff & Great work done by security!
Went to the electrics department. Ian (if I recall his name contact) was super professional, and gave me several solutions for what I was looking for. Definitely going to be back.
This is a fabulous store! There's an amazing selection of merchandise inside and the staff are helpful and friendly. This will be a destination store the next time I'm in Victoria.
Always a fun adventure. They sell everything!
Great one stop shopping for all your home wares.
They've reduced the variety of their Hardware to a bare minimum the rest of the store is sparsely stocked and very very limited inventory a very sad State of Affairs for a store that used to be one of the best in town with an incredible selection of inventory Oddball items in the basement historical military surplus is gone they've lost their momentum they've lost sight of their roots in their history very sad I won't be back to the store ever
When they say there's no store like it, they mean it!
Very expensive in somethings. Staff is very helpful and friendly
I like the variety that is there. Everything from kitchen stuff to backpacking to construction tools to board games.
So fun to spend time and look at all the stuff!
Great local store! Love the selection of camping gear! Very reasonable prices on camping accessories (seriously! Compare them to Walmart & Canadian Tire!). Great store brand items like tents and camping chairs at reasonable prices. No hassles replacing a tent pole on a store brand tent purchased from them years ago.
Great selection, with some hidden treasures
Lots of unique items here.
I never knew that there was such am extensive hot tub collection on the bottom level, and of course so many neat things throughout the store.
great selection, great service with a nostalgic atmosphere...????
Great staff - has a bit of everything - anything you're looking for that you can't find somewhere else is probably here!
It is all set up for safety and social distancing
Every time I buy something here I regret it. Returning an item is a nightmare. The place seems to be little more than a glorified dollar store. Save yourself some time and $$ and stick with all the standard department stores.
I just love this store! They always have such good quality products at really good prices
I used to enjoy coming to Capital Iron for the marine and military surplus. I was disappointed to find the section reduced to a small fraction and the store now a general and cookie cutter version of an outdoor store, garden center no different then Canadian Tire. I will not be back.
Outdoor garden supply didn't know about stock indoors, I almost left without what I came for even though they had it. Other than that great place.
I like this store BUT...and this is the only time I had a complaint but I think it is a very BIG and legitimate one. A friend who had traveled 4,000 miles from the east coast to visit wanted a raincoat. We found a fabulous one (H Hanson) at CI. The sales person on the 2nd floor in the clothing department was patient (the friend can be very high maintenance) and extremely helpful. I had my dog with me so I stepped away from the cash register when my friend was making her purchase so as not to be in the way. My friend is elderly and I KNOW I should have checked what was going on but aafterall, that is the clerk's JOB.. Basically we went out the door WITH the large security disk still attached to the expensive coat. The store alarm did not go off!! Fortunately we got home, she was packing to leave early the next morning. I live very close downtown to CI but it took me a 1/2 hour to rush back JUST before they closed for the evening to get the security disk removed. When I said you know this could have been a HUGE pain if she had discovered this when she got home where she could not easily get the disk removed. The security disk is HUGE and I cannot understand why the cashier was so careless. Anyway check your clothing purchases carefully. The clerks were very unscathed by this major mistake and not very sympathetic. I have been told by people who work in sales that there are many different security companies that make these disks so you need the right store's equipment or if you try to remove it the disk will spill dye that will not wash out. Lousy customer service from that particular cashier on duty.
Always fun to look around Capital Iron. Today I was looking for a work shirt in a specific colour but they didn't have the size I needed. I did, however, find something I haven't been able to find anywhere else but had given up on. Then there it was- right style, right colour, right size. Always pays to check out Capital Iron.
The one stop shop for winterizing my work attire. Only the downtown location seems but be the true Capital Iron I have always remembered. The expansion shops just don't measure up.
Always come out of this place with something I didn't know I needed.
It a interesting store with a wide variety of goods. But I miss the old Capital Iron, especially the basement when it was full of treasures (junk if ask my wife) I would get lost for hours searching through bins and boxes for various trinkets and hardware from salvaged vessels.
Great hardware and homeware store, knowledgeable staff and quality wares, always love shopping at capital iron
Good selection of anything outdoorsy! Great customer service as well.
This is the store of a little bit of everything in it. If you are looking for something chances are you are going to find it here. Always friendly staff and willing to help when you have a question. Three floors of items so this is not a small store. You should be able to find what you are looking for here.
Love the random assortment of stuff.
Lots of kitchen supplies though pricing seems to have gone up substantially. It is a great place to get those "Boutique Products" like as seen on TV things.
Great store with a wide selection
I never have enough time to spend. It's my favourite shop! I get lost for hours....from homeware to fishing outdoors n camping. I loves it!
Fun and eclectic. Has been 5 stars in the past, I think covid has limited some of the selection and staffing levels. I still recommend giving the store a stroll through.
Worth visiting... especially for gift shopping. They're always closed on days and at times that I think they ought to be open so I actually only go about 1/100th of the times I've actually been in the area. If you're going anticipate they're not open late and seem to be closed on some holidays.
You gotta shop here! Clothes, kitchen, seasonal, and tools!
Stunning Store... amazingly well stocked...cool stuff... eclectic...
A great general store with awesome deals, excellent staff and a wide assortment of items for around the house or as gifts.
"THERE'S NO STORE LIKE IT.." Too true. We were shopping for a patio heater and compared to other stores, private and big box, the selection was great but the service was outstanding. We dealt with Greig and Rob both whose personal service an knowledge was far above anywhere else. Our neighbours were shopping for a BBQ so we recommended they try Capital Iron and they felt the same as us and they are thrilled with their new BBQ from Capital Iron. Way to go guys!
Always looked forward to a visit when over on the island, as it was always an interesting browse. Unfortunately it seems to be winding down and shelves are a little bare. Also noticed some less than quality items going out which is sad to see. Sorry to see them leaving.
Good prices on many things. Great selection of regular and not so regular items. Parking across the street is convenient.
We always visit when we are in Victoria and never walk away empty handed!????. Today was no different!
The everything store for local residents and a great tourist stop for visitors. There is something for everyone at Capital Iron.
We love the downtown Capital Iron. Great selection of products and some unique items.
Great store with some good deals.
Very interesting store never know what you might find
Camping, Christmas to Clothing it's all here!
Extensive offerings of just about every thing you could imagine. Search for deals not always the lowest price but attracts a lot of tourists.
Horrible place to work for the short time I worked there. The new owner (Mike Black, married to the original owners daughter) ex navy bartender, and generally over the top supervisor, is turning the store(s) into Chinese factory clearance centers. They are expanding, but the crash will happen soon enough when people get tired of buying junk. This place used to be a landmark with tons of curious things in store. Now?. Just another store selling things with planned obsolescence in mind. Too bad.
Best store in Victoria. They have 2 branches as well as Store Street.
Love this place. Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable staff, amazing season section (Christmas is mind blowing) also camping clothing and cooking sections year round. It's a really great place to shop!
Great attentive staff, always clean envi
An affordable and unique hardware and more store, famous in Victoria.
This is hands-down one of Victoria's best kept gems. There really is no store like it! Special shout-out to Mark and Michael Black (owner) in the BBQ section for saving my bacon. Not only did they hook me up with a custom barbeque on short notice, they went out of their way to convert and install it for me. Seriously, you guys are phenomenal. Everyone should experience the service, selection and consummate professionalism this store has to offer.
Great store with a wide range of products.
My pregnant wife went to shop at value village and had intended to go to capital iron after however the owner of capital iron watched her go into value village and immediately had her car towed for parking in their massive parking lot with numerous spots MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
The service here was second to none! Brett in camping supplies went over and above to help us find what we needed!!!
This general store is a Victoria landmark and Store Street is the home base. Tools, garden, kitchen, outdoors and work clothes. The unique things are plentiful too.
They have changed the shelving giving the customers lots of room to move around.
Great place to shop for all of your wares!
Go shopping for sales here. Best quality for the best sale prices.
I like going to this place for the hard to find or weird camping supplies that most other places don't have.
Awesome customer service & great selection of just about anything you could need.
I know this place is really popular and maybe that's what I don't like about it. It is rabid commercialism wrapped up and over-priced. It just makes my skin crawl.
Lots of great clothes in stock!
Very interesting selection of items, wish there had been more antiques though.
a lot great memories of this store l love this place
Great selection of camping and sports stuff, but their tool and hardware section is a bit sparse.
Pros: an interesting mix of low and high end items, unique items not typically found in a standard department store. Cons: not necessarily cheap prices, however, good sales can be found.
Came here to buy a Webber BBQ, staff was super kind and helpful, great selection. Didn’t feel pressured to buy anything. would 100% for your BBQ needs
Good selection knowledgeable staff.
Tons of useful stuff for alright $
This place is great, full of stuff that I didn't even know I was looking for...as we'll as the stuff I am looking for.
There really is "no store like it". Found odd ball screw sizes I needed for a piece of gear. Back in service for under $1.
Very interesting to shop here.love it.
Good selection of products
Excellent customer service. They went above and beyond when trying to help me find some rubber boots.
Always enjoy going to this place. It's like an active surplus on steroids. All the camping gear you could possibly want as well as a ton of other stuff. It's a modern-day Yukon Gold warehouse . You have to see it to believe it .
Lots of selection here for camping, gardening, housewares and lots of miscellaneous goodies. Always fun browsing!
Great selection of items you never know what you might find
Low stock due to Covid, but nevertheless interesting showrooms with interactive outdoor patio & barbecue displays.
First rate. Primarily a man's store but with enough diversity to keep the most discerning female occupied. Needless to say it's an icon of the Victoria shopping scene.
They've got just about anything you need, hardware, tools, garden stuff, clothing... virtually everything ????
Only one of three cash out areas open. Unfortunately that one had a long line up and only one till open. Not good enough.
I would've given 5 stars but the shoes section has 1 step and is not wheelchair accessible, even though the rest of the store is accessible.
Very cool store with very varied products (anything from kitchenware to clothing to hardware). Parking available.
Always a better than expected shopping and learning experience
Always happy. Never had a problem in there and close to work.
Got myself a new frying pan. Maybe it's the time of year but they were a bit low on stock.
Beautiful store love looking around clothes kitchen and outdoor stuff. Always good
Great place for your household needs.
Always interesting. Got a-lot-a kool stuff. Come in outta the rain.
A really cool place, a great shopping experience, love it.
This really is an excellent store. I have been coming here for years. They have a huge variety (check out the basement!) and it has the feel of a family business. Usually when a business gets to this size it loses its heart but that hasn't happened at Capital Iron. There is no store like it!
Horrible customer service go somewhere else my family won’t be back!
What an incredible store, they have everything you can imagine. The marine museum in the basement is really cool. Great garden and outdoor selection.
My all time favorite store in Victoria
Definitely had better visits, selection is a little sparse
Great place for kitchen items and outdoor equipment.
Close to home. Staff not helpful, needed items not in stock.
A fantastic store with excellent products and staff, especially the kitchen and grilling departments.
Capital Iron has just about everything from shoes to clothes, housewares to hardware and boating gear.
Clean and safe. Not as much product as the used to have though.
Found what we wanted and IT WAS ON A FABULOUS SALE !!!
I always get distracted in here because they have a lot of great products They definitely need to hire more people as it’s hard to find help, but when I do get help they are always knowledgeable of products
Fun shop to browse in. Very eclectic.
I'm extremely happy with the amazing service I received from Capital Iron today. Richard was amazing. He helped me over the phone and then worked with my dad for a very long time, in order to help me find the perfect piece. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. I feel like I got the best quality possible for the price I paid!
Poor service. Came to downtown store looking to buy a firetable. Sorry patio area is closed due to wind. No offer of what did you need? Guess I will spend my money somewhere else.
Decent prices. Knowledgeable staff. Could have a tad more variety tho.
Such a great store. I love the historic building, interesting finds, affordable prices, and that intangible quality of it being a Victoria landmark. Its so handy - they manage to sell so many things you might need! I also love that I can walk in with my dog :). I hope this place endures for many more years to come.
Great store, huge variety. Clothes, Christmas Decor, Household and Kitchen, Tools!
There Christmas display was so much smaller this year and cramed on th
So I'm not really sure what category to put Capital Iron in - back in the day, it would have been considered a dry goods store. It has been in this location in Victoria for some 75 years -- back when the railway cars unloaded just up the street, it was a pretty strategic location. Capital Iron is 4 floors of all kinds of interesting departments - you could easily spend a full afternoon just poking around. While the main floor has one of the best selections of kitchewares, small appliances, and hardware, they also carry camping gear, furniture, barbeques, fabric and notions, AND still have a portion of the basement dedicated to salvage, antiques and army surplus.
A very impressive sample of a modern day general store. They seem to have a little of everything, and a lot of some things. I could amuse myself in here for hours. Prices seem fair and maybe even a few bargains here and there. Long time locals will suggest that if you can't find it anywhere else, there's a good chance Capital Iron will have it. So maybe just start at Capital Iron and save some time and energy.
We wanted to buy a pot compatible with an induction cook stove. They only had stainless steel and they will not work.
Very helpful when we were looking for just the right table for our small patio. They have everything!
I always love to browse gor hard to find but useful items
Good place for unusual item. Solid local company.
I love this place! Great service and great products.. And it's supporting a local company ????
A wide variety of goods to choose from. Staff was helpful.
I always love shopping at Capital Iron. It has such a great selection of kitchen ware, accessories and outdoor clothing & gear. Camping season is coming, so shop soon & shop local.
Capital Iron has been one of my favourite haunts in Victoria. Historical building, great house wares, hardware, camping, hiking, clothing and much more....Almost always stop for quick look around every time I'm in Victoria.
Great general store where you can finally almost anything and very convenient downtown location.
We used to visit here regularly from up-island but hadn't been in some time. We were really disappointed to find that all the neat stuff they had had been replaced by regular merchandise - sign of the times, I guess, but it's lost what made it such a unique and fun store. "No store like it" is kind of a lie, now - it's like many other stores out there, and there's no real reason for us to go back there rather than to the many WalMarts and Canadian Tires available in more convenient places with better parking, selection, and customer service. In addition was very frustrated by the cashier - she seemed not to know what she was doing. She rang me up and she never asked if I wanted a bag or not, and *after* I had paid (using a card, like 99.999% of people do these days), and it became clear she wasn't going to bag anything, I asked for one, and she looked pained and said "oh! They're 30 cents." I don't have any cash on me, so I just had to awkwardly juggle the items out to my car. She also accidentally snapped a tag off of one of the items and threw it out without asking me - if I hadn't noticed it was missing just before I'd left, I'd have gone home (again, up island, not exactly convenient to returning) without the instructions for that item.
Love this store. Awesome selection of items and great prices
They are price gouging during the Covid19 crisis. A bunch of overpriced stuff at the front checkout including hand sanitizer for $149!
Interesting store with a wide range of items, 2 stars for the selection. However, the staff in the sporting goods section are usually young men that don't know the first thing about what they are selling.
It's changed a lot over the many years. However, it's managed to be unique, and good value.
This is one of my favorite stores that I always visit when I come to Victoria.
very neat store lots of bolts selection, there is camping gear really just a bunch of everything. love the store its one of the best local stores ive been to! check this place out!
An old time General Store with a modern flair . My wife and I think Cap Iron gets top marks from us. T & T Elzinga
The stuff you need, comparable prices, fairly knowledgeable staff, and great sales at times.
Ginormous fun to shop and browse here. Professional grade cooking/baking items, household goods, garden, and camping supplies you won't find elsewhere.
I now make this my first stop to find unusual items, they always seem to have what I am looking for!
Quality items, friendly staff. Great store.
I love this store. Amazing how many things they carry in that store. Team John in hardware went above and beyond while helping me with my project. Very much appreciated, keep up the great work. They carry many quality items too, something that is lost in the big box stores
They sell everything. Pretty good outdoor equipment offering
they've probably got what you're looking for, and the tube steak guy out front is friendly. also they have a public bathroom upstairs. a good downtown toilet
Awsome store. Gadgets in every corner, Nick-naks, clothing, household, hardware, outdoors equipment gardening etc.
I was very sad to see a store without people and limited items on its shelf ????
I had excellent assistance as I was shopping for a backpack upstairs. He was very thorough and gave me a lot of information. It's such a great store that we try to make a trip there every time we're in town. Unfortunately a strictly enforced 1 hour parking isn't necessarily enough to really look around, try on clothes, wait for assistance, line up to pay, etc.
I once spent 2 hours in here wandering around inside and outside. I left with a hook screw that I paid $0.95 for, and still felt fulfilled. Staff are friendly, and they have SO much stuff to look at.
Friendly, helpful staff. Great Covid procedures.
An interesting shop to visit. The products are quite varied. There is kitchen things, hardware, shoes clothing and more. Lots to see and explore.
The BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE I have ever seen in Victoria. I emailed about a product I bought there and was very impressed with how well and quickly it was handled. I will buy with confidence from Capital Iron!
So many products with good prices and you get free parking at the parking lot right out front
Great selection of superior work clothes for all environments. A little pricey but you get what you pay for.
What a cool store. It's sort of upscaled Army & Navy store. Friendly, knowledgeable staff.
A Victoria staple, been here a million years. Good place for camping/outdoor gear, tho some of the prices are a little high.
A wide variety of better quality things for a home. Some great deals can be found, but I go for those odd bits and bobs with more quality than bigger stores like Walmart ever deliver.
Hardware store come general hardware store. Great place to wander through
Unique and collectable items. Great staff. Good prices.
It's over hyped and pretty expensive. Return policy is a joke
Not what it used to be. But still has a good selection of products and supplies.
no other store quite like it!
Great store! Not only they have everything you need for BBQ but the knowledge and services is amazing.
Great selection, lots of great products
Whenever I go to Victoria I like to visit this store. But on my last visit in dec I was not impressed. Looks like this store is going to close.
Always a treat to shop here.
I received very helpful and informative assistance from an employee in the camping equipment department with respect to some lanterns I was checking out for our condo's disaster preparedness committee.
It has everything
Great knowledgeable staff, very friendly. Lots of products to choose from.
On of the best places to go to, to stock up on very reasonably priced camping equipment and clothing. Staff is very helpful.
Try not to get stuck in here for hours while you shop. One of the neatest stores you'll ever set foot in.
Great selection.... Good kitchen and camping sections
I buy 2 plant pot 40% $37 I like it but I saw over there 1pot broken almost into two pieces. I asked how much ? He said $25. That's really too much for that broken piece. I asked for manager over there he was on break. First floor checkout counter no one was there then I bring up 2nd floor left it over there.
Still one of my favourite places, however, I absolutely HATE the seasonal inventory being jammed into such a small area on the main floor. At times, it's so over crowded, I have left my purchases & walked out because shopping was unbearable in the current layout.
An eclectic collection of great quality things. I've bought all my camping gear here.
This store really does have everything, worth walking through even if you don't need anything.
An amazing store that has almost everything. Can be a little expensive.
I found cotter pins and circlips in the hardware section, amazing! Had a nice chat with the staff, and got some great advice! This store was my Dad's favourite store 50 years ago, and it's on the fast track to becoming my favourite as well.
Great store for hardware/camping/kitchen/gardening/clothes! The original Victoria general store.
Lots of sale items. Nice attentive staff.
Not a hardware store. This is a place for older frumpier moms who want kitschy garden furniture and clueless dads who want cheap camping equipment for the next fishing trip. They do have a good collection of nuts and bolts.
Capital Iron is the best! They have a wide range of products from outdoor furniture, to (nice) kitchen stuff, to camping gear, clothing, tools and much more. The staff has always been friendly, and while the prices for some things can sometimes be slightly higher than a chain retailer, I've never felt that they're overly high. It's always a fun place to stop by and see what they have!
Great variety of things you need around the house!
Did some Christmas shopping, thanks.
I enjoy the kitchen gadgets, dishes etc. Department the most. When I go in looking for something specific i usually find it at Capital Iron.
Excellent local shop. Can't pay by tap via credit yet but who cares, that's technology for you.
To bad this location closing other location not worth going to
Will not go back - was sold product unsafe to eat from and Capital Iron will not exchange it. Absolutely horrible customer service. Family member bought and gifted me a pestle and mortar from Capital Iron which, when I opened it, was terribly rusty and unsafe to use to prepare food. I brought it back during the month return period with the receipt, but they would not do anything for me because I did not purchase it for myself and do not own the credit card. I get they have a strict return policy but when it's THEIR mistake that they sold a food preparation item UNSAFE to eat from, they should be willing to fix their mistake. Will be letting everyone I know to avoid this store. So dissapointed.
they have a little bit of everything.
Great selection of housewares, camping and clothes, hardware though? You might do better elsewhere...
Been searching for a good quality strainer for months now. Thanks to Capital Iron, I finally have it.
Good place to pickup gifts for outdoorsy people. Fair prices. Large selection of things from clothes to tents to utility knives.
Outstanding customer service. Excellent selection of products. Working through an order issue. Staff very helpful.
is everything ok here? the main floor was basically empty...
Always fun to wander around in this place. It's huge and there's so many different items to check out.
I bought a pair of Helly Hansen boots online, but when they sprung a leak I popped into CI (a HH dealer) to ask about warranty because I had them less than a year. Alison went above & beyond to assist even though I hadn't actually bought them there. Superb customer service! And excellent selection on all manner of goods. Wish I lived closer to Victoria so I could shop there more often :)
The best store around! And they let my dog come in too. Truly great
Lots of interesting stuff esp hard to find nuts and bolts and outdoor stuff. Eclectic but moving upscale it seems but still unique
This is a 1 stop shop from kitchen to hardware, fishing and camping to kids clothes. I fear one day stores like this will be swallowed up by larger corporations with buying power like Walmart and Canadian Tire. I am not sure the city would allow a big box stores like that downtown Victoria. So be sure to vote with your dollar and support stores like this!
Local business with bold character and good products, I loved the service.
