The restaurant is beautiful. We sat at one of the boots, very nice and cozy. Food is great, thank you!

Big and not so busy restaurant right downtown. There has never been a problem to get a table. The menu looks very old but has many selections of food. Food came quickly and tasted good and fresh but not so impressed. Service needs to be improved as they forgot to bring sharing plates and sauce bowls that I had to asked for those, never refilled water and checked if the customers are happy.

Have come here the odd time over the years as my back-up sushi place, and unfortunately between the service and the food itself, it's never been outstanding. On my most recent visit, I called for take out and they quoted me 20-30 minutes. I arrived after 30 minutes, and was told to wait, with no ETA. It ended up being an additional 20 or so minutes. When I actually ate my food, I was thoroughly disappointed in the portion size... I ordered the chicken teriyaki roll, salmon avo roll, and yam tempura roll, and they were each 6 small pieces of very thinly wrapped sushi that tasted incredibly bland. I thought that because they were giving 6 -and not 8 pieces, as is common in many other restaurants- perhaps the individual pieces might be a bit larger.... but they weren't even average in size, let alone bigger. Between the doubled wait time, tiny portion sizes, and lacking flavour, I unfortunately won't be coming here any more-- not even as a back up. I'd recommend looking elsewhere for sushi.

My favorite sushi in Victoria Affordable, great quality and generally walk-in with no wait

I used to love this place but after ordering through skip the dishes this time, likely won’t be back. We ordered and they said it would be ready in 45 minutes, which is great. Showed up then only to wait an additional 30 minutes, no explanation or apology. Someone was ordering when I first came in and they collected their to go order before we received ours… makes no sense. Don’t mind waiting but please be realistic in setting your times and prioritize orders properly. Figure out a better system!

Staff are incredibly friendly, the sushi is fresh and simple(in the best way possible) and the selection is both vast and skillfully prepared. I would highly recommend. Also; best Sapporo on tap in the city.

FOOD: Bring people here who you dislike. The food is underwhelming. The menu says 'real crab' which is worriesome. The gyoza was greasy and possibly from the Costco frozen food section, they were inedible for anyone with tastebuds. We have had better noodles out of a box, and better sushi at a convience store grab n' go. Our food came out mains first, later we received our appetizers. We did not stay to be disappointed by desert. SERVICE: The service is polite and nice. ACCESSIBILITY: There are two levels, both with double door street level entrances.

I have lunch here every so often with my mother. Foods always really good. Today we went and got two separate tabs, as we paid in cash, I think our server was waiting for us to say “keep the change” because he silently gave us our change. I am a pretty fair tipper, and service here has always been so-so, but I still tip. I wanted my change back to decide later what to leave because the sever wasn’t really friendly or attentive AT ALL. So when he walked away I was shocked to see him shaking his head at my mom and I. I assumed he didn’t think we were going to tip but if he waited a second he would have seen that I was going to. Super unprofessional and very aggressive for no reason. I had to speak up so I asked him if he was okay because what kind of behaviour is this for an establishment? Won’t be returning.

Azuma Sushi is my go to sushi place in Victoria. I enjoy the prompt service, the fresh sushi and restaurant environment. Although it is quite a large place, it is quiet enough to enjoy your conversation. I suggest you try the clam miso soup it was delicious.

Twice in a row I placed a order for pick up . Both times I showed up at the time they told me . But the food wasn't ready I live across the street so I dont mind leaving and coming back. But every time you ask how long they say a few minutes they wont even go check with the kitchen both times I stood in the lobby for over half an hour on top of the hour i gave them when i called it in. Not at all worth the hassle for a couple rolls and some wings .

Definitely the best sushi ???? in town. It's fresh and made right! I have been a long time lover of sushi and this place is the real deal. You DON'T get sushi that tastes fishy here, the greeters are awesome, and the layout of the restaurant is great! They have the private booths with the cushions. Everything is great here. Best sushi ????.

The food is tasty but this place constantly lacks in service. They got our order wrong and didn't offer to deduct anything off the bill. Getting a waiter's attention is almost impossible. And the atmosphere is not the best because of the dim lighting and lackluster appearance inside. Three stars is generous since there are many better sushi places in Victoria.

Kelly McAree

Service slow, not because of staffing as there seemed to be enough staff just unattentiveness. Food could be better. Gave us stuff we didnt order but unable to communicate such with server effectively.

Amie

Arrived and had no wait. The restaurant is big and there’s many tables which makes for less likely chances of waiting to be seated. Was escorted to our table and offered hot tea and water right away. Once we ordered the food came in a reasonable amount of time and the service was good. the waiter catered to our needs and made good suggestions on food item choices. The presentation of the food was nicely done and it was tasty. Recommend the spicy tuna roll as it melted in your mouth. Had a good experience and recommend for anyone looking for a sushi experience. A little confused as to why this restaurant is rated so low as it was a positive experience for us.

This used to be my favourite restaurant for many years. Today I called to make an order for pick up, the lady answered and asked me to wait but she hung up on me. I called back one more time. Someone picked up and didn’t say anything, I could hear the noise from the restaurant and then they hung up…. Very disappointed.

Food came in a weird interval. And i remember when i went there an older lady demand and asked why i didn't tip? (We tipped as a group gave my tip earlier to my bff ) but paid individually. So i had to give another tip because server "asked why i didnt tip" and asked if the service was bad. Being all ashemed and etc. Had to give another different tip for her. Never coming back. She did the same to my other friend.

Ordered through skip, wait time was an hour. fine. When I went to pick up my food the staff said it would be a "few minutes" when I waited there for 20 additional minutes (while I'm at work!). No water was offered, no updates, no apologies, just a sticky counter. I finally got my food, and I'm furious I paid 13.50 plus tax for this tiny amount of sushi. They used to be so good but now, I'd prefer gas station sushi.

Avi Shany

Love the sitting area, good food and not expensive Good service as well

Sara Nicole

Food was amazing, our server was amazing. 100% would recommend

Aria D

The service can be a little iffy but the food is really good for the price. I don’t like sushi but I really like their beef teriyaki. The rice with sesame sauce is also amazing and makes food good leftovers

Goodee Vilaisane

Delicious food always and very consistent with everything. Times of waiting for food and service can vary depending on how short on staff they are but that's to be expected. Overall get authentic Japanese food here, and every one should try there deep friend banana desert with vanilla ice cream. KILLER YUMMY!

Xavier GB

The sushi here isn't good, everything was slightly dried out, the rice tasted like old fridge, won't be coming back.

Don Gorman

Terrible table service (waited almost 25 minutes for someone to take our order), extremely slow for pick-up (waited 20 minutes), and rather small portions. There are numerous other options nearby and I'd highly recommend trying somewhere else.

Rebecca Rolfe

Great food, awesome service. Super relaxed I had fun, would definitly go back again! Oh and the pricing was decent!!

Courtney Kruschel

Super great place! The food and cocktails are delicious and the servers are super friendly.

Trail ofAsh

Sushi and service is fantastic, kitchen needs some serious help with what they put out. Overpriced as well, but the sushi and steak sauce make it a decent experience.

Alan Nash

Ordered take out and was extremely disappointed. Food was not warm and we had black flakes, like from a frying pan, in our noodles. We will not be ordering take out from here again.

DANA PANKOWSKY

The Obento Box is a great deal! A new dish every day. Super tasty and balanced!

KOMPAWIT TOOPHOM

Not worth a pay. Services are quite slow. Employee selected tips for himself and not polite. Dishes are very dirty. **Unappropriate protion of food** **Would highly not recommend**

Romeo III Flores

Service is not accommodating. Not worth of the money paid for the order nor service. The authenticity of the japanese flavor hasnt satisfied my taste. The menu needs to be reviewed and consider food taster.. not the worse but it can be improved.

I like azuma sushi, but I liked it much better when they were a small tiny restaurant of like 10 tables back 10 years ago, I am a long time customer. The quality is not the same as it used to be. They've also changed the salad dressing a few times within the past few years and tonight's was the worst of them all. I ordered my favorite chicken ksraage bento box. I'm not sure if I got the bottom and more concentrated, but it was all garlic, and I like garlic. But it doesn't feel like the salad dressing is a palate cleanser anymore. Please go back to the more vinaigrette taste of before. It was much better.

Worst sushi restaurant experience ever. We were seated right away but there were LONG waits between actual service. We were there for 30 minutes before someone came to take our order, spending overall 90 minutes for 4 rolls… other tables were walking up to ask for things and they would respond with “Let me get your server”, we barely saw ours. Avoid this place!!

Herr Zügellos

No wait to get in, which is kind of a flag right there for a weekend night at 7pm. Seating and decor is spacious, hence the one star and the waiter who took us in was nice. It seemed like all the other staff really didn't want to be there. Some of the servers did not really make any attempts to hide their disdain for the customers, their COVID masks did not conceal the scowls and their actions clearly expressed it. The liquid all over our table seen in the photo was not from us, but from one server who passive aggressively seemed to throw bowls of miso down on the table and refilled water glasses to overflowing without apology. And then there's the food... tempura was soggy from grease, gyoza seemed like something from the freezer aisle, rolls were misshapen on the ends and the nori damp and wrinkly, avocado was brown, the tuna in the negitoro roll smelled funky. We usually wind up ordering a extra round of sushi when we eat out. This was the first time we didn't finish the food from the first round, it was so off-putting. We don't go out for sushi often, and when we have in the past there's usually an afterglow for a couple of days over how nice a treat it is. From this experience, it's more of a two day concern of whether we will get food poisoning. We have had great experiences at this restaurant previously, although we've only been for lunch previously. Perhaps it's a different crew of people running it during the day, and the food is prepped only earlier in the day as it certainly seemed fresher on our previous visits. In any case, management need to seriously review what's going on as you can't really be hit or miss on quality when it's a cuisine involving raw fish. While the food needs to be top priority, working with servers to improve the customer experience will also go a long way.

Nicole Hutchinson

This is the worst sushi we have ever had, so disgusting we didnt even eat most of it. The prawn tempura wasn't even crispy just soggy and greasy, rolls had literally 0 flavour, no teriyaki on the teriyaki rolls.. wish I didn't have to experience it to be honest.

K Leay

Ordering 10$ rolls, got extremely small portion with very little ingredients in it. Being a huge fan of sushi I'd stay away from this place. Price for what you pay for is not up to par.

Bal Nagra

No wait to get in but service was extremely slow. Food came out in odd intervals, which was understandable since they had run out of an ingredient. However, our server didn’t notify us there would be an extra wait. We waiting upwards of 30-45 minutes just for two rolls of sushi which tasted as if they had been sitting in a fridge overnight. Don’t recommend if you’re looking for a quick, quality meal.

gohan84 c

So food was pretty decent... Up until we got our rice. Some sort of brown sesame sauce poured on top of the rice and totally ended its run. The chicken teriyaki was also a touch overcooked so it was a tiny dry, but still fine enough to eat. We had the combo for 2 and would've easily fed our family with 2 kids. Server told us this sauce was high on their request list... But I guess it just wasn't for us... If its your first time there and you get rice with your meal... Ask for the sauce on side just in case!

Amazing. Sushi was fresh. Genuine staff good prices! Certainly will be going back!

Really amazing service. We were in a rush to get to an event and it wasn't an issue at all. Yummy food and cool ambience! Will spend more time there in the future. The waitress we had was super awesome!

K P (kpower17)

Good prices, always a table waiting and really good bento boxes. Would give 4.5 if possible. Good service as well. Works for families or friends, whatever setting you need.

Jaz Young

Great fast service, food & drinks! Very kind staff. My go to place for sushi in Victoria. Great miso soup & affordable rolls.

Will Sonnex

Great tuna. Excellent BBQ eel. Spider roll was not good though - almost entirely batter and only a tiny sliver of crab. The low score is mostly for the service. Our server just disappeared at some point and we were left in an empty section by ourselves. After 20 mins we had to go up to the front desk to find someone so we could pay our bill.

Patti Hupe

I used to order from Azuma weekly. It was the best in town. Just received my order from Skip. Scallop katsu was 5 tiny scallops for $11.95, sunomo salad was tasteless and the sesame sauce was nothing like it used to be. Never again. Very disappointed.

Emily Spargo

Love Azuma! Consistently good food and so affordable.

Jada McCaffrey

All the staff are super nice and helpful and the food is delicious!!! The service was fast for a restaurant too, and they were super diligent about asking if we would like more tea or water. All the food came out looking good and tasting better, I'm definitely coming back and recommending this to all my friends!!!

Vincent Kim

Ordered through skip the dish. The sashimi smelled so fishy I had to throw it out. The quality of the scallops and unagi was below average.

Tyrant Jelly

Never order from here with skip the dishes in person this place is great but my order tasted like it sat outside for a day before I ate it then when i tried to get a refund the restaurant refused to refund us

Jennifer

It was ok.. got a couple Bento boxes and ramen. Salad wasn't fresh. Wasn't rushed at all though to finish so that was good

Andrea Knadle

The Bento boxes at Azuma are the perfect amount for lunch! The sesame sauce is devine! I do feel like through covid the cleanliness has taken a bit of a decline but it's likely due to a staff issues. The food is still great and my family from out of town still loves to tuck in here on the weekend.

DJ P

REAL LONGGGGG WAIT.40 minutes... not like it used to... be then they only brought 1/2 our order waited ANOTHER 15 minutes took away our soy sauce before the 2nd part of our order came...UGH...generous 1 star.
