Here you will see the opinions of people who know the products of Save-On Foods (Bowling Alley) in the area of Prince Rupert (Canada).
To this day this firm receives a rating of 4.2 stars out of 5 and that score has been calculated on 127 reviews.
As you can read, it has an average rating is quite good, and it is based on a very large number of scores, so we can think that the rating is very faithful. If there are many people who bothered to leave their score when they've done well, is that it works.
You know that we do not usually stop to write tatings when they are good and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...
This Bowling Alley corresponds to the category of Grocery store.
Not very much selection
Off the beaten path grocer
It has better cheaper options that Safeway, they will special order for you, Safeway says no without even checking, save on foods doesn't see why not, also the meat is fresher, with better deals.. I can barely even talk about Safeway meat without getting grumpy, better bulk and ethnic food... Safeway has more square footage with less variety
It doesn't have a diverse selection of food and is quite expensive for a regular grocery store. On top of that, there is lots of false advertising and difficult to understand deals. I prefer to go to fairways or thrifties. If your looking for organic or ethicly made products this is also not the store, go to market on Yates or a farmer's market. Positives are that it there is a fair amount of space to move around
Not a great variety and better prices elsewhere, but if you are in a hurry and it is close by, I would check it out.
Awesome family grocery store
So happy to finally have a nice grocery store so close to home. It's clean and well organized and the staff is friendly. You can get some great deals if you sign up for the more rewards card. The Starbucks inside is a nice touch, so you can not only shop but also sit down and have a coffee or snack. There was even a live musician playing last time I went in. This area around Pandora can be pretty sketchy, so having a nice store here brings better people to the neighborhood. I appreciate the security guards as well.
I was mad at service before but it's good now. Plus it's close to home for me.
I use their online shopping/pick-up service and they have absolutely blown me away. Not only have I saved a lot of money because I can make better decisions about my food from home ahead of time, but hours of my own time as well. They always have my order ready on time, they pick great produce, if there is an item out of stock they substitute the next best thing at no extra cost to you, and on top of that they are so incredibly friendly and upbeat when I see them I actually look forward to going to the store. I will never go back to regular grocery shopping again as long as this service exists.
Great selection of top quality foods.
A comfortable, convenient downtown grocery shopping experience! Location and ample underground parking make "Save-On" a great choice for your downtown grocery needs! The hiring practices must be appreciated because the staff often go beyond the call of duty to be helpful, and they are courteous and efficient. I give the store a B++ overall rating! A wide variety of expected stock is always well maintained. All in all I at first thought upon their opening that the location was suspect. I have been a regular and a supporter since!
Friendly staff, best meat, though small produce section.
Good place to shop
Very good with Covid precautions and spacious. Employees are fantastic. Organization of items is a bit strange and there is a lack of interesting non Western foods and tofu. UPDATE: After giving feedback I received a helpful phone call addressing a few requests, and the next time I was in the store there were more vegetarian options. I also had a great online shopping experience. I am impressed and will continue to shop here. *Just keep in mind that it's in a bad neighborhood.
knowlegable staff. fair prices. good service
Clean, bright, wide aisles and well stocked even in these times of Covid-19. Excellent vegetables and fruit. Checking out can sometimes be a bit slow, but I suspect that's also a function of Covid-19. Worth a visit!
Crabby workers there ???? Some of them look racist ???????? Closest grocery store to my apartment that's y I shop there, gotta catch the good workers on a good day ????
First off: congratulations on opening the new location. I'm looking forward to the new grocery store in the neighbourhood. BUT: WHERE ARE THE BIKE RACKS??? This store is located at the intersection of two major cycling corridors. A LOT of people in Victoria get stuff done by bike; secure racks are not optional. I look forward to visiting the store when the bike racks go in and I encourage Save on Foods to make this a priority.
Most things about this store are great. The location is excellent (much more budget friendly than Market on Yates, the closest downtown alternative), and the store is large, bright, well laid-out and clean. I witnessed a couple of iffy food safety things on my visit last night. When we walked in the store, we watched the staff member stocking the ready-to-go hot chicken wings overfill them so much that they were all over the serving area (not the most hygienic) and then pick them all up and stack them as high as possible. We were also on the hunt for some steaks, nothing too fancy, but all of the packaged red meat looked old and grey, like it had been sitting out a little while too long. We decided to opt for the deli as it looked more fresh, but that ended up costing us more than we'd have liked to pay. I have visited the store on a few other occasions and didn't have any other concerns, so I'm hoping these are just a few isolated problems. Either way, I will still be back at this store as it is such a treat to have downtown.
Better selection of sandwiches than at Safeway; more cheese involved.
Good selection, high prices
I call Save-On-Foods "The Evil Empire" Sometimes it's necessary to shop for one or two emergency or on-sale things, but I would never load up a buggy, pay the exorbitant prices, and line Jimmy Pattison's pockets while he sits by and treats employees like garbage and throws perfectly good food into locked dumpsters.
Your avocados are really bad, please find a new supplier. Your produce as a whole needs improvement. But everything else is okay.
Friendly, helpful, covid compliant. Not impatient, even tho i was shopping at the last minute as usual. Didn't have my card, but cashier was willing to use store card to get me the sale prices. Good sales!
We live on the Gulf Islands but come to town to help parents. At the same time we specifically come to this store for ours and their weekly grocery shopping. A big bonus for us is the EV chargers in the parking area. We find the prices fair, the customer service excellent and nice atmosphere. Cashiers are always friendly.
I was in on Sunday and there was a person playing guitar, with amplifier, beside the Starbucks kiosk; I asked if he was paid by Starbucks and was told he was working for the store. Music was WAY too loud and very off-putting. I went to customer service to let them know the music was overly-loud, and while waiting to speak to the attendant there was a huge racket from a 'spin to win' wheel about 10 feet away from service desk ... again, a store initiative. When I complained about high noise levels due to ''introduced" sound, I was directed to a man - don't know his title - who, in response, asked if I was aware of Save On special shopping sessions for people with sensory issues"! I told him I do NOT have sensory issues, it is ridiculous that a grocery store feels it needs to entertain customers by providing them with an extra-loud shopping experience. There are plenty of other choices for me, I will shop somewhere else.
Good place to shop, Nice and polite staff.
Good saveonmore prices save your points
Easy for quick trips
I always feel like I go to prison when I grocery shop there ????! So many security guards spying on you when you take your phone from your pocket! It’s becoming uncomfortable! Customer service is inexistant some of the cashiers are so rude and will shame you for needing an extra bag! Not the best!
Sunday afternoon and these dummies have only two check out stands open. Happens every day
Excellent place to shop, it is unfortunate that outside the store are homeless
My go-to for necessities
Moved there.for.Pharmacy . Much quicker friendly services
Self checkout software (despite a recent update) continues to be poorly designed, implemented, and tested. Often having to use a different lane and hope it doesn't freeze or crash.
Beautiful new grocery store. I appreciate how they have a security guard, given the location. Only complaint is I had a rude cashier who didn’t help me pack my bag and tried to hurry me up when I was getting out my Save On More card. She didn’t even ask me if I had a card and was trying to abruptly finish my transaction.
Convenient store in the area of the staff are pleasant. Price a little bit higher however the location is fine for downtown however compared to no thrills there is a difference in price
Good staffs, good service!!!!
Save On foods as always a pleasure to shop at. The staff is always friendly and the shelves are always well stocked. I specifically go here because the produce is always fresh and plentiful.
When this location first opened it was nice and well-maintained. It is now dirty and almost always under stocked. I have found that the baked goods go bad very quickly (mouldy) as have dairy products. The staff are great however, cashiers are very Very nice!
It's a produce store. It does all it needs to do.
A small Save on but has the basics
This is just like any other Save-On so I would give it 3 stars for that. But the reason I gave it 4 is specifically because of a couple of the staff that have gone above and beyond to help my husband and I when we are usually treated very poorly. I unfortunately don't know their names but one is a lady in the meat department who is always really great and the other is a man in produce who did whatever he could to help me get what I wanted. They are both great and more employees need to be like this. There needs to be less discrimination too. You can't judge people by their appearance. I know the location of this save on also causes more discrimination but you can't assume someone is a shoplifter by how they look. It's not right.
One employee working the deli - middle of rush hour… 10 hours later I got my MEAT. Maybe after today I go vegan who’s to say. Also they didn’t have pita … so 1 star
This store is really fantastic. So bright and cheery with smiling staff that go out of the way to help you. Even the security staff welcome you with a smile. This location has a Starbucks inside which is great. Having visited Starbucks several times and it always comes with a welcoming staff which makes it my favourite in the area. To the manager of Save On foods, you have done a superb job. Keep it up and we will keep coming back.
It's a grocery store, good gluten free options!
Friendly staff.
Fresh food
Disappointed in covid response - no cleaning of carts and sanitizer not readily available.
Great store . Staffed with knowledgeable persons.
Friendly staff!.. .
Super clean, good selection considering how small it is. They recently reorganised the store and it takes forever to find anything, maddening, so go with time to spend. Only slight knock, compared to the other grocery store, they could be better at getting more checkout staff by calling them out from elsewhere in the store.
If I could give a lower star rating I would have. I tried to go shopping in this store on May 2nd and was denied entry. I’m not sure exactly how many security guards there actually was but I’m sure it was probably close to 10 of them that came to make sure I wasn’t going to be allowed in. I’ve only been in that store once before and found it to be quite nice and even talked with security about my cab that I was waiting on, joking even and he helped me out of the store with all my bags even. So when I returned and was treated so horribly I was embarrassed and angry and hadn’t done anything to be treated in that manner. I’m sure that they might have sum problems with people stealing and what ever else but I personally don’t steal and the the only handicap that I do have is due to a couple broken vertebrae in my back and being long overdue for a back alignment which makes every step painful and I walk very crooked leaning heavily to the left so when I was so rudely turned away and I believe his exact words were “ listen honey, not today. Try back tomorrow.” I asked him repeatedly why I wasn’t allowed in n he kept repeatedly saying the same degrading line to me. First off I’m not anyone’s honey! Secondly I wasn’t high nor drunk and was made to feel like that was why I wasn’t allowed entry. I thought this because he also said to me “Look honey it’s not gonna get better if you keep asking me that and I’ll make it longer if you don’t go now so get out of here.” I replied all that I wanted was to get a birthday cake for a friend and would leave and that’s something of a time sensitive matter if you know what I mean! I can’t go see my friend the day after her birthday with a cake!!! The fact that this store finds it necessary to treat people in this way is completely degrading and do you think I’d like to go back the next day so it can happen again? I think not! I’d rather die than suffer that humiliation again! Maybe you should have thought of this before moving into that neighborhood and by the way I am not homeless thank the gods and just because I walked through their tent city to get to the store does not give anyone the right to be treating people like that. You don’t know what reasons those people YES PEOPLE! have lost their housing and I’m sure sum of them might have lost it due to 2 many guests or drugs and alcohol not all of them I’m sure are addicts and they shouldn’t be treated this way either. I’m pretty sure that your supposed to catch someone stealing first before treating them in such an ill mannered way and if that’s how your treating them in the first place there’s no wonder that they would target your store. You need to give your employees a huge talking too and maybe send them to get taught how to treat customers better before you don’t have any at all. I cannot tell you how outraged I am at how I personally was treated because of a disability no less and if that’s how you’ve taught your employees then shame on you!
The store is very clean, staff very friendly. I went this weekend to buy a black forest cake (my favourite) from the bakery and they had none in the display. I asked the clerk behind the counter if he happened to have one in the back and he offered to make one for me while I was shopping. Very appreciated and the cake was delicous. It's unfortunate that the store itself is located in a rough neighborhood that looks like a war zone of a 3rd world country. Until recently there were hundreds of people living in tents on Pandora, some homeless, some drugs addicts and some with mental issues, just outside of the store. If it was a safer walk I would visit more often rather than just once every few months.
Fresh vegetables and I deal with the pharmacy there the staff are wonderful there
I went there . There's a bad service . And nothing were cheap . Too bad
You need to be careful with what you do at the store. It is true you can be treated brutally and inhumanely if you do something suspicious. They can mistake you for one of those homeless people who are there to steal and it will be the worst customer service experience you will ever have.
I love this location, I'm there every day! They always have great deals every week and I love all the points I'm banking with them for free items
Smallest, dilapidated, poorly stocked Save On Foods I ever shopped at.
I like this place to shop for my grub. A little crowded but it works
Great supermarket and will definitely be returning to this shop. I often buy my lunch here.
Nice helpful staff
It has good gluten-free products, but wish it had a deli and larger produce section.
I love the option of purchasing from their online, especially when one isn't feeling well and can't get out.
Myself I work for huge chains grocery store. I totally understand the situation that going on right now. I went to safe on foods yesterday. I was being questioned why I was only buying a few groceries. Firstly that is my right to get what I want and I wasn't breaking any rules. They don't know me whether i have the money to do a big shop. I know everyone is stressed right now. But I don't need an employee to tell me how much I should buy.
The line system is annoying with many people using their close proximity to me as an excuse to start idle banter.
Polite, helpful, lots of checkouts open
Pretty good fresh groceries
Not bad for a downtown grocery. Fairly spacious and a decent variety of things. Gotta say it's a little pricey, but what isn't these days.
My fave shop stop! Great customer service.
Great place to shop
Very fair prices hit foods in front more like restaurant before you enter the store have starback also in addition. Variety of food items found fruits and vegetables are also packed. Easily shopping without making you uncomfortable while …
I love the the employee. Very courteous, knowledgeable, kind, polite yet professional. I like to see more bread choices and vegetables. Overall, clean, tidy and good location.
Great selection of foods.
Great shopping
Nice place
I do all my grocery shopping here. I live in the area so it's handy. Save-On is competitive with other stores in the area and the store hours 7am-10pm, 7days a week compared to other stores except the convenience stores.
A good grocery store. I mostly visited this location to take advantage of the to-go food for lunches during my week off field work. The packaged sushi was a good lunch solution and the Caesar salad was plentiful. They also have a good truck in their parking lot that has a wide variety of food.
Good service.
A great little supermarket
Loved it. So convenient.
Wow the rotisserie chicken at this location is really good! Moist and not overdone! The store looks great and is very well organized, I appreciate the greater selection of take out items. I was disappointed some products weren't available in smaller portions. I think you will find the downtown crowd isn't necessarily buying for a family of four!
Friendly staff, very helpful. Very clean, well organized, very good prices.
Most expensive grocery store in town. Every item is priced higher than others, only matching their base prices when on "sale". It should be obvious from the scammy sounding name, but this is no place to save on foods. Oh, and they require you to carry around their stupid card if you want to get the "sale" prices. I suppose they trick quite a few people this way, who don't realize they're not actually paying the price listed on the tags.
Great service
What an unpleasant experience! I stood in front of the deli waiting to purchase some salad, while two employees pretended not to see me. They assisted another customer by getting them a pastry. After approximately 5 minutes of standing there, I said, excuse me. The deli employee snarled, "we're closed!" As I attempted to communicate further with him, he just walked away. I told the supervisor about my experience and said there should at least be a sign to let people know they're closed. He said there was. 5 different employees attempted to look for the sign and no one was able to find one. How hard would it have been for the employee to say, sorry we're closed, instead of just letting me stand there? Come on Save On!! Let's attempt to be human! I Know it's hard! I won't give you anymore of my money; there are lots of other stores! Do better!
I always come to this location to buy my groceries and I can find a lot of the things I need and best part is that it is near. Very kind lady working there I think named Laurie was extremely helpful and made sure my order was perfect and fresh. I really appreciate how she cared about it. She was very nice with me. She showed great customer service. Big thumps up!
Great prices, they have the best foreign food selection.
remember when it was here then gone but has returned...spoke 2 jimmy pattison ( owner)
Struggled with the automated checkout machine after several attempts to scan handle and complete my transaction on my own. apparently my cloth bag alerted the machine that the weight of the bag was incorrect. it was a competitor's bag but I didn't think that would make much difference. Suffice it to say after several attempts finally the attendant came over. I'm in an automated check out for a reason. I don't want customer service. I just want to handle my own groceries. Went over to cashier and had an error was being overcharged for an item. One of the reasons why I don't want customer service. Fix your machines.
Good shopping
excellent selection of Local and foreign foods.
Aww my store....
Helpful and nice staff, good variety of produce, and great prices!
I started going back to this store because of the wider selections of food from all food needs. Also I love food truck .
Not in a good neighbourhood. Nice to have a Save-On- Foods in walking distance. However, it is located 1/2-1 block from less salubrious stretch of Pandora Street between Vancouver and Blanchard Street, to the west of the main entrance, in downtown Victoria. The neighbourhood in the evening is stretchy, dangerous. If you are driving, there is underground parking off of Vancouver Street with escalator/elevator access to the store. The store layout is familiar and the grocery selection is excellent. The staff was helpful and professional; I appreciated that. A good produce, bakery and deli department. Meat and fish prices are comparable to other local grocery stores. (I used my $50 Christmas gift card!) I like their selection of ready-made sandwiches and meals; fast and convenient. Self-checkout stations available. Clear and comprehensive COVID-protocols in place including mandatory face masks. Pre-ordering and curbside pickup available. The area is in transition. Lots of new high-rises being developed within a couple of blocks. Save-On-Foods Pandora is a significant addition as a full-size, full-service grocery shopping experience in downtown Victoria. The neighbourhood is pretty hard core, the edge of Victoria's version of "Vancouver's Down Town Eastside" (DTES). Be aware and happy shopping.
Good selection in general.
haply
The best place to shop for groceries by far. Great staff, they help out in any way they can and i like that.
I have mixed feelings about this store. First of all, it’s great having another grocery store downtown! This location is close my work and home so it’s very convenient. However, I do have a problem with how they treat homeless people. It’s absolutely brutal and inhumane. I have witnessed homeless people being turned away based on their appearance (that’s on day one after opening, so it’s not like they have been there before). Three days later, I saw 2 guards dragging a homeless man out of the store while he screamed from being hurt. Today, I went in wearing my gym clothes and the guard gave me the most disgusted look. Do they assume every person is going to steal? Would it help if I showed them my $80 Lululemon shorts with no pockets, to reassure them I won’t steal any potatoes or carrots? Yikes. (I’m sure they have great reasons like “safety of their customers” - doesn’t change the fact that this looks like discrimination based on appearance)
Easy access
Love this store, good prices, good quality and friendly staff. Nice community.
My partner and I recently ordered groceries for pick-up at this Save on Foods location and we were charged for iems that were missing from our order. It also took ~10 minutes for the order to be delivered down to us in the parking garage. The fellow who delivered the groceries was apologetic for the wait which was nice, hence the two stars instead of just one. I haven't had a poor experience using grocery pick-up services at other supermarket chains in town, so won't be using the grocery pick-up service at Save on Foods again.
Nice and friendly and clean
Love the variety of produce . The staff is friendly and worth traveling accross town by passing the other grocery store.
Just wondering why the carts and baskets are not being sanitized. Also no arrows in the store to keep social distancing.
Great selection and service
Poorly managed line up! Great products good for a month and disappear?!
The best produce quality and selection! I always go to Save-On for my produce and it's always fresh and they always have what I'm looking for. I also like the selection in the meat department and shelves are usually quite full.
Burrito bar in store!!!!!! Whaaaaaat????????????????????????????Friendly staff huge store and huge selection. Store is very clean. Wheelchair accessible washrooms in store. I highly recommend shopping there. Oh and try a burrito, they are amazzzzing????????
Nice store good parking down below.
Today I had a really good shopping experience. One of the male workers, sorry didn't get the name but he was very helpful and got an item for me and brought it back. At the till, Sheene was super nice, filled my tote for me. Very kind.
Best price in town( on some food items)
Wow, inside restyled. NICE ALWAYS what you need
Very friendly services, they'll do their best to make their customers happy... for example I want a big jar of miricale whip that was on sale, there wasn't any left so they checked the back and they where out so they substituted 2 jars of the next sz for the sale price, i was happy
I have been dealing with the pharmacy at Save on Foods for almost a year and had good experiences with Jon the manager and Alex. Recently there has been a new hire to the pharmacy and I’m not sure if her name is Jen or Jane. This morning I contacted the pharmacy at around 10.20 am to let her know that I am in a lot of pain and that my doctor prescribed a medication on the phone, that I need ASAP. The pharmacist didn’t indicate that there was going to be a delay. It is 1:25pm and I am in agony and the medication has not arrived yet. Upon calling the pharmacist they indicated that the meds were sent an hour ago, and that they were not sure about the driver’s route. I complained to the manager Jason who said he would speak to the pharmacist to understand what happened. Jason called me back and was did not empathize. He totally justified the actions of the pharmacist. I explained to him that this is unacceptable and that their pharmacist’s callousness should be dealt with. I am so disappointed in Save on Foods pharmacy and their management. Had I known it would take so long I would have picked the medication myself. There was no indication that the meds would arrive so late. According to the manager Jason he said the medication would arrive at 2pm. I am in a lot of agony and I’m hoping the meds arrive at 2pm. Don’t use this pharmacy... there are so many pharmacies that have more humanity and professional customer service.
This store never has advertised product and I have purchased moldy bread from here. the prices of out of stock isn't cheaper than walmart. horrible buyers, poor store management, this store sucks.
Very community minded business that supports numerous charities, even gives us produce trim for or lamas!
Ok
First time shopping here in awhile and the last.. Spoiled meat, and didn't experience the best customer services..
great service and no problems here
Good place to shop
Overall this will become my regular grocery store, but 1. There aren't enough bike racks when I bike and 2. the security guards at the car parking exit are just ridiculous. There are two of them and they vigorously point to the ONLY WAY TO GO. Also heaven forbid you go buy something while in workout clothes. Security doesn't like that either.
Sale prices on the wrong items, self-checkout was super buggy. No one there to monitor the self-checkout and one of the cashier's had to monitor both which was clearly stressing her out should trying to serve her own customers. Management needs to get their sh*t together.
Prices and food are good, but I mostly avoid here because there usually only one cashier handling a super long line. I had time to find this site and write this while I wait.
Bulk sales
Awesome selection of all you can imagine to eat.Ethnic/Specialty food selection is pretty wide
This location is one of the few that has yellow dragonfruit available - recommend a visit if you want a nice new fruity adventure. Elsewise, it is clean, well stocked, and well laid out as one can rely on Save-On-Foods stores to be.
Excellent shopping ????
It's about time there was a Large Scale Supermarket in Downtown Victoria, with the rising number of Condo Buildings going up everywhere!
Nice place, but I compared a few items and there price was between 10-50% more than the one down the road.
They have a good selection of flowers.
Great price. Having the membership is worth it.
Where I shop now. Point system is fabulous.
Great place to get groceries. friendly staff, good variety and good prices.
Good for quick grocery shopping but comparatively costlier than Walmart.
Have a great selection
Could be better
Got a 60 dollar parking ticket from robbins parking for exceeding 3 hrs. Problem is I was exactly 15 minutes as I ran in to get some cigs and some sunflower seeds. Ticket noted I had been there since 12:47 pm. I didn't even get there until 5:57 pm and left at 6:12 pm. Not impressed at all. First of all I don't think anyone would park for 5 hours in a parking lot with windows open 4 inches and a large dog in vehicle. Where would I go. Secondly I live in the condos across the street and have my own underground parking. I dont need to park in their lot even if I wanted to.
