Meh. just a quick cut. Nothing special about this place. In fact when I got home I had to grab scissors and do some touch ups. One side longer that the other etc. It is very hard to find someone who is real barber these days. You know someone who can work with scissors not just electric razor. What gets me most is that I did not learn about the "cash only" until I was paying. But hey no worries we have an ATM right here for you. What's up with that??? Is the owner also running ATM business?

Like others did research on barbershops. Noticed the New York Barber shop and was impressed. Funny enough, my daughters boyfriend has been going there for years. He highly recommended the place. Well he was 100% right!!! Awesome !!! Moe has been styling my hair and beard for the last months. All I get is compliments on both. Can't argue with that. The shop is meticulous, clean and professional. Great crew and atmosphere. Never experienced anything like it. Have I said Awesome!!!

This place is AMAZING!!!! I cannot emphasize how great of an experience I had here! The staff was leagues more polite than man of the places I've been around Vancouver, the service was ABOVE and BEYOND. New York Barbershop was an EXPERIENCE more than anything else. I'm very particular about my hair and how it's cut, and I've gotten great cuts before from other places around Vancouver. But the level of service I received here was like nothing I'd ever gotten anywhere else. I'd HIGHLY recommend checking this place out! I'm switch over and making this place my regular "go-to" barbershop. You will not be disappointed when you go here!

Absolutely fantastic. As a college student, I hadn't ever gone to a barber shop before a year ago. I've bounced around from shop to shop but I've definitely found a place to stay at. I walked in on a Thursday afternoon with about Seven people ahead of me with six barbers working line went by fast, great vibe the shop look fantastic, Barbers look professional and knowledgeable, I had the best hair cut ever, highly recommended!!!!!!

They charged me $27 no hot towel, no razor cut outline, no talc and cologne. They stole $9 from me. Worst haircut Ever and First time in my life a barber screams at me and acts rude just because I asked him to cut a little shorter from the sides. They talk trash about the clients in their middle eastern language (probably Arabic or Farsi). They only accept cash and they have a little ATM strategically placed next to register. Lol! I don’t know how this Americans are getting so many 5 stars. I have got a Better haircuts for half the price from people who barely speaks English. Buy local people do not give your money to this Americans.

Definitely my first and last time going there. I called to book an appointment and the barber “Ali” picked up. From the start he seemed rude and unapproachable. He was in a hurry and didn’t even tell me the name of the barber that he booked me with. Once I got there, 3/4 barbers (including Ali) were goofing around/doing nothing. When Ali asked me who am I booked with, I told him that he didn’t mention it. This is when he got mad and started making rude/unprofessional jokes. Unfortunately, the barber “Rudy” cut my hair. Although I don’t think he is quite different from the others, he seemed very inexperienced.

I’m done with this place. I overlooked the unprofessional and rude behavior because I could just about justify the quality for the price. But now that they’ve raised the price it’s definitely not worth being treated disrespectfully and getting a mediocre styling for ~$40. To be fair, one or two of the barbers are friendly and try to make it a good experience, but a majority of them couldn’t care less about the basic tenants customer service (hopefully I’m not being a demanding diva for expecting a smile when greeted and a simple “how was your day?”). I’ve seen several reviews indicating that there is no interest in operating the business in a manner that values or honors the customer’s time. I definitely agree with this sentiment. Had an appoint from 4:00-4:25 and watched as my barber sat behind the reception from 4:00-4:10 playing with his phone, and then sighed as if I’d greatly inconvenienced him by asking if he was ready. Guess what? My haircut was done by 4:25. I’m never going back and would never recommend this place.

After waiting for my barber to finish his instagram scroll, I asked for a fade. 0 to 1. Nice and tight. He said he couldn't do that because there's nothing in between a 0 and a 1. I told him just fade it, make it nice. After watching him lazily shave with one extended arm, I figured it was his style. It's not a style, turns out it was just being unskilled. Then he tells me about how he's been driving for months without a license. The place is nice but service and haircut was mediocre at best. Would not recommend.

No shave because of covid which is of course totally cool but haircut done in 10 minutes and strictly business. But, his haircut was amazing and he looks great. Great Barbershop the thing started I was walking in the Mall and I saw a guy with an amazing hair cut, so i ran to him and asked him if you don’t mind can I know where did you get your cut from, he replied New York Barber Shop they are the best in town, so I was so excited to go and get a hair cut from them, I got there and the shop looked very nice to be honest the best barber shop I have ever seen, I asked one of the barbers do I need appointment, he said no so he walked me to his chair and gave me the best haircut I have ever had exactly what I wanted and took his time to finish the details when I came in close to closing hours. I will Definitely be a regular, I am happy I don’t have to make appointments to get my hair cut, recommend this to anyone looking for a great haircut.

No professionalism at all! The employees are very inexperienced, rude and unprofessional. They talk to each other in their native language all the time and don't care about your haircut at all. One of them gave me a really bad cut once and I decided to just shrug it off, but then they started communicating to each other in their native language and started to laugh at me. I was super embarrassed and left right away after I paid. Honestly, I should've sued them or something for customer harassment. It is probably the worst place to get a haircut here on the North Shore and it is the place for you if you want to get embarrassed for no reason.

Always been one of those people who has never liked a haircut, I have really fine hair that loves to stand up and out when cut short and, other then the occasional "you have weird hair", most barbers Ive gone to havent noticed and just cut it short and terrible. Not Dan though. I first started coming in about two and a half years ago and Dan was my first (and only since) barber there. He asked me what i wanted and knew instantly what to do and what not to do to make my hair look the way I wanted, even offering style prefferences I hadnt thought of like a hard part or a fade (great fades aswell). Every single time i've gone in Dan has been there, nomatter the day of the week or the time of day, telling me the only day he takes off is sunday, which is amazing for a barber as good as him because you never know when youre gunna need a haircut. Dan takes his time and does it right everytime and even rembers subtle things mentioned in conversation months prior, making getting a haircut very chill, like sitting down with an old freind. 12/10 would reccomend checking this place out and even if you have to wait an extra 30 minutes try asking for Dan!

Be careful who you choose to give you the haircut most of them are unskilled and when you tell them what to do they will do the opposite. When i told them to do a fade on the sides they basically did a buzz cut and they cut the top part that i didn't want to be cut at all. The price is way too much for what you receive at the end. I don't really recommend it at all.

Not impressed. My wife phoned ahead at 7pm and we were told that they don't take appointments, we could just walk right in and that they are open until 8pm. We walked down the 30 mins from our house with our dog and child, we arrived at 7:30 and we were told they " closed at 7:20". I questioned this and was told "they have to clean up". If you say that you CLOSE AT 8,THEN YOU CLOSE AT 8. Don't lie to people over the phone, make false promises and then make lame excuses when they take the time to travel to your establishment. As a new business, this place has alot to learn about customer service. Call them out on it, and they'll call you racist. Lol. I won't be back.

Had a haircut with one of the barbers, showed up maybe 5 minutes early and sat waiting for my scheduled time. A few minutes later he came out of the back and told me I was early (a whole 3 minutes at that point) like it was an inconvenience. Sat down for the haircut and watched as he talked with his coworkers and generally didn't pay full attention to cutting my hair. The nail in the coffin was a coworker showing him a video on his phone WHILE he was cutting my hair. He was literally watching a video on a phone eyes off of me as he was cutting my hair at the same time. Not very comforting when you've got a razor to your head. Haircut was barely passable, done in about 12 minutes which really reflects the quality. No wash, no straight razor on the back of the neck. You leave with hair all over your face and a feeling that you got ripped off. A real New York experience! I wont be returning.

Brutal. I went there 3 times, and always came out with 3 different haircuts, despite me asking for the same thing each time. The last time I went I got the worst haircut, almost comedic how terrible it is. It was totally uneven [1.5 inches longer on one side than the other], chopped, and not what I asked for. I am pretty sure that they receive no training at all - just a white shirt, scissors, and instructions how to give the same haircut to every client, no matter what. I would not recommend this place at all.

i saw the pictures of the haircuts on their website and they looked really good, however that wasn't the hair cut my friend got. i legit felt sad for mans. i was planning on getting one but after i noticed his cut it was a no go for me. the other dude asked me if i wanted to get cut and i said nah i'm good fam. he then literally mean mugged me like i had just $hat in his fruit loops for the remainder of my friends hair cut. i'm wondering if he meant he wanted to actually cut me. i thought he was gonna follow me out and try to fight me. as for my homie he never even got the straight razor on his beard or line up. talk about royal treatment lol.

Nice place, just the attention to detail is off for the cost. Waited 15 min past my appointment. I didn't get what I booked. Had to request a beard trim for the second time. No care given, just tilted my head back no leaning back with the extra head support. No close shave on my neck leaving a light stuble behind. Not the end of the world but was expecting better.

Tried this place twice and got two REALLY bad haircuts. Most recent cut was the result of the barber running back to back 15 min appointments all day with no real rest. The guys got swamped with walk-ins and were seriously understaffed. I got rushed through as the last cut of the day after waiting for a few hours to get in. BAD idea. Screwed things up and it is going to take me a while to fix it. Barber who started the repair process asked me if I made the guy at New York Barbers made at me or something because he gave me such a dodgy cut. First cut was rushed too and just didn't measure up to equivalently priced cuts at other better barbers in Vancouver. There is a lot of good with this place, including: 1) Location is good 2) Space looks amazing and is clean. 3) Staff are friendly enough. 4) Seem popular with a certain set of teenage guys... the ones who get fades with really hard parts and lines shaved into their heads. These guys have a few things working against them i, though: 1) Cash only - if you didn't bring it, you have to use their ATM and get charged to take out the money. 2) Walk-in only - if you get there and it is busy, get ready to wait. 3) Rushed cuts (related to above) - since they focus on walks ins, the more people they can run through, the more $ they make. You won't get a decent 30 mins of focus because they are looking at the line behind you. 4) No dedicated parking

I've had enough with this place - during my haircut, the barber would constantly stop cutting my hair, turn around and talk to his buddies about going to the STRIP CLUB on the weekend and getting drunk. So blown away by the lack of professionalism I can't even begin to comprehend it. I have never written a google review, but after my second time at this barber shop, I was so mad I had to put something on here.The barbers are more talented with socializing than cutting hair. I showed the man a picture of a skin-fade, and instead of fading the side (which would take time) he decides to take a 1-gaurd, and clips all the way up to my crown. Absolutely no fading was done, its like he didn't even look at the pictures i had shown him. Then continues to "clean up" my front lines by cutting deep into my natural hairline; which now looks awkwardly crooked. And to top that, when I got into my car, I noticed my face was completely covered with hair. Which without question they would have noticed when i was paying at the register, but they chose to not say anything. I almost felt like they were making a joke out of me when I looked in the mirror. I felt embarrassed. I know this whole review sounds like a lot, but that why I had to post it. I live in North Van and hate to see a place like this keep operating, the only thing keeping this shop alive is its decor and location.

Nice barbershop, horrible customer service. 2/3 of the last times I have booked a cut online the barber hasn't bothered to show up. When I addressed the issue the other staff show little concern or provide a solution This is by far the worst customer service I have ever received at any business. To make matters worse 1 out of 6 barbers in the shop can actually cut hair. On one occasion I booked with a different barber than my usual one and he ended up cutting my head and neck 7 times, and when I complained via email to management no one cared to respond. overall this place isn't worth your time or money.

Update from 5 stars: I really did like this place. I've been coming here for at least a year now. Today I dropped by for a quick beard trim, it had become unruly and just wanted it neatened. My barber asked me if I wanted just a little off after explaining this, I agreed. He proceeded to cut off 2 months of beard growth. I didn't realize this at first; I don't typically focus on the cut as it's being made but get lost in thought; I took a look after and it looked quite short but i shrugged it off because I figured the lighting must be weird and was just happy to finally have it neatened. After I settled up I took a closer look and was instantly in denial it really did look much shorter. When I arrived at home I realized the damage that had been done. My "short trim" turned into about 2-3 inches being taken off. I can't comprehend how that translated from asking for a trim.

They used to do nice haircuts but there is one guy who is not so friendly and regularly checks on his phone and looks out the window every once in a while during the haircutting and he seems unfriendly and rude as he always puts his hand on my head to hold my head and pushes down with all his arm's weight and he is very rough with trimming machine that feels like my skin is coming off and they also increased their prices recently from 27 to 35 for the same exact service which i think is really not worth it.

i am completely shocked and appalled by the aggressive attitude,verbal abuse,and the lack of professionalism from one of your workers. i called to make a reservation at about 2:25 today i was instantly met with a poor attitude and from, and when i asked if this was new york barber shops they responded by saying “yeah. who’s this?” in an extremely arrogant tone. when i told him i wanted to make a reservation he told me i had to book online and i should’ve done that instead so i simply asked why there was a phone number linked to your business in the first place if i had to book an appointment online, acting extremely unprofessional and refused to help me book a reservation regardless if it was over the phone or online.after arguing back and forth,accused me of being aggressive and argued with me and kept cutting me off,so when i told him if you’re providing a service then it’s completely unacceptable for you to be treating a customer. he kept saying to “come to the shop” so he knows who i am and at that point i hung up. if you want to call someone with an attitude without even getting a haircut in the first place then this is your go-to place!

I've been here once and had a 'weird' to 'very good' experience. Weird because the providers were a bit unwelcoming, gave me that 'you don't belong here look', verified my appointment in an unbelievable manner and didn't interact much at the start of the service. In short it was not nice. Slowly, the interaction began and my stylist seemed nice. We both exchanged personal information just like two strangers normally would. By the end of the service my mind changed from 'never coming here again' to 'definitely coming back'. Throughout the service, my stylist was very professional in terms of the service itself. Give it a try but give the stylist some time to adjust :)

I went there because of Yaletwon branch review. Ali was my barber. He did his job in 12 minute because he has to get the next appointment. The quality of his job was soooo bad. Then he asked 40$ that is not a fair in pandemic. I dont know why people are giving score of 4. Moreover , there were 11 people inside of shop without following 2m distance. The quality was poor and just a nice decoration. i think 40$ per 12 minutes is a really high income in Canada.

My husband went to this barbershop for the first time and he was totally disappointed. The guy who did his cut had braces, and was very rude. He did a terrible job, and kept telling my husband that it is finished. He was not respectful, and did not even wash his hair after the cut. When my husband asked for a wash, the barber said it is not his job to do it. He had bits of hair every where on his forehead, neck, and ears when he came out. I do not recommend this place to anyone wanting a nice haircut or fade. They are not professionals and it is definitely not a friendly atmosphere to be in! There are so many other places that provide way better service and way better cuts for guys. We will definitely not be going back ever again.

I hate to do this but this Barbershop is terrible! I’ve been recently looking for a new barbershop that was more local for me since my original place was too far of a commute. I stumbled upon these guys and thought I’d give them a try. The first couple of times I had gone there they weren’t too bad. Told them I wanted a good fade with the beard done and hot towel treatment. They managed to do a decent job so I figured I’d continue to use them. The third time of visiting these guys was a nightmare. I asked them do my usual hair cut which is the fade with the beard. Except this time they completely butchered it! The guy messed up the line up which was not straight and pushed my hair line back. The fade is terrible too. It looks like a toddler did it. No skill what so ever. They are such amateurs and the prices they charge are outrageous. I’ll definitely be going back to my original barber despite the long commute. They are WAY more skilled. (Also each time you go it’s a different barber giving you a cut....call me old fashion but I’d rather have one barber do my hair always)

I had the pleasure of getting my hair cut by Moe the other day and it was the best cut iv ever gotten. He paid attention to all the details and took his time. It really is like stepping back into time and experiencing something thats timeless like going to the barber shop, us men love a good conversation and a great cut to feel good right fellas , well this place sure as hell does just that. First off I'd like to start by saying this is the best barbershop I've been to in Vancouver Great haircuts and service even greater. They have numbers for the customers to track who came first and it's very organized store. The barbers there are very professional and highly trained and on top of that they are nice and welcoming. I always get my haircut with "Ali" he Highly recommended. The guy is very skilled and has very light hands. He always meets my expectations and even more. I have never left the store unsatisfied honestly and I will always go back. "Till they f up my hair then l'll quit going there "

Just receive my first haircut at this place and I'm pleasantly surprise with the quality of work. My barber took his time and made sure that every strand of weird hair were at proper length and location. The best part is the fade that I receive is on point which I am truly thrilled about. To add on, the atmosphere of this shop is quite amazing. I almost felt like I was in a lounge listening to dope music. For $27 dollar haircut, which I thought was on the high side, is a price I'm willing to pay if I get the same quality haircut repeatedly. Will be back, Dave M

If you live on the North Shore and are considering this place because of its location, please don't waste your money. Two words that describe the barbers at this shop; ARROGANT and UNSKILLED. Please do not bring your children here. The barbers have a rather negative response when you ask them to fix something. When speaking up with 3-5 of them around me regarding corrections to the haircut - I couldn't help but get the sense of them talking down on me, which I wouldn't want my child to experience in the slightest.

Great place, greater barbers and the best fade every single time, no surprises. Time and time again. I heard their name from friends and colleagues and ended up trying them out and since have become a regular. Now I constantly get complimented and asked who my barber is. Wanted to try a local barber on the north shore, I'd never reccomend this place to anyone. The amature barber that cut my hair scratched the back of my head so it looks like a cat attacked me. Very rough and pushed my hairline back too far, hope I dont get some random persons herpes from the barber being so rough and scratching all over my head, literal blood was coming out og the scratches. zero stars if it were possible, plus he didnt even mention or apologize for being rough

I'm not sure how this place is getting 4.5 stars. I've had 6 cuts in the city over the last year ranging from trainee to seasoned professional and this has been the worst by far. I'm growing my hair out and wanted a cut/shape that would foster the growth and look "okay" during the awkward stage. I relayed this to the barber and he basically responded as though I was requesting something very strange and foreign. "I cut the sides short usually"... Barber was curt, unfriendly, and a little rough: ran the comb over my ears repeatedly, was not gentle when moving my head around, didn't ask any questions or smile, and I felt like I was an inconvenience (just the feeling you want when you're paying for customer service! ;). English was a second language, which I'm perfectly fine with if there are other attempts to foster a connection. I've had hair cuts from people that don't speak English at all and we've been able to get on the same page. No such attempts. The cut/trim was done in 10 min with no wash and I sat there confused pulling at my hair humming and hawing for him to put a small amount of product in it at the end. I paid full price and left with a less than adequate cut (remember that awkward stage? much more awkward now). Oh! and my hair smells like cigarettes.

This place is on fire from the moment you walk in till the moment you walk out it's like being in a different world this is not just any barbershop it has THE BEST customer service I've ever had at any other place and THE BEST CUTS I've ever seen or had.. I am also extremely picky with my hair I love someone who can pay attention to detail because details are what bring in the complements and I only got my haircut yesterday but they way they hooked up my comb over and blended with the beard I've gotten complements from all my friends that have seen it.. that's when I decided wait you know what these guys do really deserve my time to go back and appreciate their art work DEFINITELY RECOMMEND! Ask for moe the guy is a king !

I walked in on Saturday afternoon for a shave and all of the barbers were very friendly and accommodating. The wait was less than 5 minutes and they did exactly what I wanted. On top of this the building is great and the atmosphere of very relaxed while also being professional in what they do. I'm from out of town, so won't be back until next year but I will definitely let my friends know about this place.

Like a lot of other reviewers I really wanted to like this place but after 3 failed attempts I’m bowing out. Firstly, the place is meant to open at 10am and the last 3 times I’ve gone there they don’t show up until at least 10:25am. The excuse they give each time? “I come from Surrey what do you want me to do?”. They should change their hours if their barbers don’t want to get out of bed to open the shop up for 10am. The guy that showed up was hacking on a cigarette and his hands stink of smoke and he didn’t wash them before cutting my hair which was horrible and unhygienic. The 3 cuts I’ve had have been hit and miss depending on who cut my hair. The guy with the beard on the right that answers the phone is by far the worst and missed huge sections of my hair and butchered my hairline at the front and made me look balding. The cuts are $27 and the atm charges a fee if you don’t have cash so beware. In short, use a different shop and don’t support a business that disrespects clients and shows up stinking of cigarettes and with a hungover don’t care attitude. The old shop on Pemberton used to be great before they hired all the others that are letting the business down and act unprofessionally constantly. Rudy, Ali and the other owner should be ashamed.

Although the atmosphere is nice and the place is clean, I found the barbers to be arrogant, rude and lacking any demonstrable skills. They don’t listen to the clientele as many other people have noted and are quick to collect the 27 dollars cash for 10 minutes in the chair! There are many other places on the North Shore that provide better service and better quality haircuts that don’t have to be redone by someone who has skills and listens.

I was surprisingly disappointed with the cut I received from this shop. For a shop that markets themselves as having the "best barbers in the city". The haircut I received did not back that up at all. First of all the haircut was not what I asked for, the barber cut off way more than I asked. The top of my head was uneven, my lineup was not clean, and all in all the haircut just looked awful; significantly worse than what I would expect from "Great Clips" or something of that nature.

WOW! Can someone please just take a second look. New York barber shop will give the rest of the world a run their money. Stopped by over the weekend and met the barbers. Moe guided me to his chair and asked how my day was and what i was looking for in a hair cut, i told him that i was picky and that i needed a good fade. Let me tell ya, iv never ever felt so great about my self leaving this place. This shop is pure luxury, the atmosphere, the vibe was everything. Moe took his time and paid close attention to detailI never had a better hair cut in my life. I will for sure be back every week!! I will recommend this shop to every Man who wants to look his absolute best, its not just about a hair cut its about the experience, and New york barbershop does just that.
