Been getting cuts from John several times now and I always look forward to seeing him. The cuts are always on point and the fades are always fresh. The attention to detail John puts in with each cut is unparalleled. The atmosphere at the shop is always chill. Since COVID, they have put in measures to ensure the safety of both customers and barbers, including sufficient distancing, sanitizing of supplies and tools, requirement of masks in the shop as well as a newly renovated washroom that is squeaky clean!

When I show him photos on Instagram of the haircut I want, I'm never nervous about it not looking good on me because that's what he does--makes you look good with the haircut you want. So when you walk out of the salon, yes, you're wearing the haircut in the photo, but it's also YOUR haircut. I'd highly recommend you stop by and check out his salon one day. No gimmicky barbershop stuff. No trendy hipster facade. Just sleek design and raw talent. Thom first cut my hair on September 9, 2015 and I've never let anyone else touch it since.

Then when I got home, after washing and drying it, I saw several mistakes in the cut. Also, during the appointment the atmosphere was uncomfortable and she did not listen to my expectations. My worry was that most barber shops don't have experience cutting longer hair styles on men and would mess it up. I did some research online and found thom. to be the best option. The quality of service and level of care here definitely justifies the price. The salon itself is very beautiful and clean. The staff are all very nice. I was offered water/coffee twice by staff and a hot towel at the end of my treatment. I got the scalp treatment and haircut by Janelle. I showed her a couple pictures of the haircut I wanted and she did a great job asking questions and explaining what would work with my face. I was extremely happy with my haircut at the end. The appointment also didn't feel rushed at all which I appreciate. Janelle took the time to explain which products she used and how to style my hair with them. I’ve been looking for an outstanding men’s haircut in Vancouver for ages - now I have one from Adam at thom. He is meticulous and a master craftsman. He knew what was wrong with previous bad cuts from elsewhere, corrected the damage and gave me a fantastic cut and some great styling tips. If you go here you have to see John Bolzanello, an absolute master when it comes to any hairstyle you want. He can consistently handle even the most technical cut. I have quite an irregular growth pattern plus a few cow licks, and he still does an amazing job. Thom, the studio it self is absolutely beautiful with complementary coffee, tea and different types of lattes which are delicious. You can be confident in the consistent quality of haircut from Thom, which is really the most important part.

I didn't realize just how bad the haircuts I was getting from a very well branded and popular local Gastown Barbershop were until Adam fixed the most recent terrible haircut (and beard trim) with probably the best haircut I've ver had. Most amazing is that he gave me this cut working around someone else's mess. I cant wait to see what he does when he's working over his own cut . Amazing work Adam. The genuine focus, care and commitment to giving you exactly what you want whilst having great conversation really makes the whole experience. There’s a level of communication about the cut that I’ve just never received anywhere else. The determination to have you looking clean and fresh is what will bring you back. The other staff I’ve encountered are all very friendly which contributes to the zen environment. And not mention, GOOD COFFEE that’s complimentary. Would HIGHLY recommend seeing John. Despite having technical expertise, this studio has horrendous customer service. Absolutely ludicrous treatment of a client who arrived late due to parking challenges. Despite 45 minutes remaining of the full hour (note that appointments are only scheduled on a one-hour basis), client was turned away despite having offered to pay for the wasted time and to leave strictly when the original appointment was completed. They also had the courtesy to remind him, “youre not one of our regular clients anyways”. It’s hard to imagine they’re able to keep regular clients when this is how they treat someone who in fact was coming back for a second appointment. Huge thumbs down for Thom.

Can’t go wrong at this location. Great place. Great experience. They ALWAYS (without fail) offer you a beverage when you come in for your appointment. I get my haircut from Brett. He does a great job. Most barbers in North America stick to using clippers to fade the sides and back. Brett, always makes sure to blend the sides and back with scissors after using clippers to fade (An English technique that’s becoming a lost art). Brett listen’s to you and is extremely talented at what he does. I would definitely recommend this place.

Let me start by summarizing my TYPICAL haircut experience: Walk into a barber shop with music I can only presume is selected from a basement techno party playlist, wait in line for 20-30 minutes, sit down in a chair, and a guy asks me if I want "#2, #3, or #4". I always pick #3, and away we go. 10 minutes of hair-pulling later (due to the product still in my hair) I leave with an awkward alien-looking head and spend the next 3 days hiding indoors until I come to resemble a normal human being. Now let's talk about Thom. The experience: walk into a clean and peaceful salon beautifully decorated. The lovely girl at the front desk offers to take my coat and asks me if I'd like some coffee. She brings the coffee (the best coffee you can get outside of a commercial drive hipster coffee shop by the way). A few short minutes later, Janelle brings me over to a chair where we have some great conversation about restaurants, TV shows, etc. My happiness level increases further when she informs me I can bring the hipster coffee with me and continue drinking it while she cuts my hair. She offers her perspective on how my hair should be cut, and then leads me over to get my hair washed. After said hair-wash, she meticulously cuts my hair while I sip more of my hipster coffee (all the while offering more excellent conversation). Around 30-40 minutes later, her masterpiece (my hair) is complete. I experience immense joy upon realizing I don't have to self-isolate for the next 3 days, and immediately re-book my next appointment 3 weeks ahead. Congratulations to you if you read that. TLDR: Thom = best haircut, best people, best conversation, best service, best everything. Other places = not Thom.

Judging by the other reviews here it would seem that they provide a great service. However, I unfortunately did not get the opportunity to experience this. I don't want to take away from the quality they provide but wish to share my experience as a cautionary tale. I booked an appointment with them to have my beard cleaned up before an event I had scheduled the following week. They called me the day before my appointment telling me that they had to reschedule. Unfortunately I had this appointment booked for an event (a rather important life event at that) and a reschedule would only work if they could fit me in before the event. Appointment was on Saturday, event on Wednesday, and apparently there was nothing they could do.. They weren't accommodating of my situation in any way and left me hanging without an appointment days before my event. I understand that if they're booked up they're booked but I did not appreciate their "too bad so sad" approach. I was very disappointed by this and to be honest I expected something better from such a highly reviewed location. Under normal circumstances a reschedule would be fine however that did not help in this case. I wish I had booked my service elsewhere. I feel like I got screwed on this one.
