I've always preferred a traditional barber and have have spent decades having my hair cut by increasingly ancient and palsied Italian men as these sort of shops have become more uncommon. Have never found exactly the same experience after moving to Alberta, and suffered many disappointments of chain salons disguised as barbers and incompetent hipsters surrounded by the the virtual knickknacks of barber shops. After a few years I stopped looking for the same experience I missed from back home and keep coming back to Gaetz. Proprietor and colleagues aren't ancient, Italian, or even (gasp!) men, but they come closest to the essential experience: relaxed environment, just the right amount of conversation, lack of pretension, and they cut my hair just right every time. I'll probably keep going there even after their hands start getting a bit shaky between snips like my extinct barbers back home.

If you are black and need a haircut, don't go to this barbershop. Two times we asked this lady if she can cut African American hair. Once by my husband and once by me. Both times she said yes. I show her a picture of the style I wanted for my son and she said ok. She did such a bad job, my husband told her to just shave it all off. I am not trying to be rude, the lady was friendly and it was a nice barbershop, but if you don't have experience with African American hair just say so. Don't lie about it.

If I could give this review zero stars I would. I got the absolute worst haircut in my life at this barbershop. I would post a picture but Im actually too embarrassed to show my hair in public. Not only that but the atmosphere felt hostile and they overcharged me $10. Of course I didnt notice at the time because seeing what she did too my hair was making me sick.

Couldn't line up my hair, didn't have the right equipment after I asked her specifically if she had it, and everytime I asked the women who was cutting my hair a question or comment the other women would come out if no where and answer even tho she wasn't in the room. I'm disappoint I paid 23$ for what I got and I even tipped her just because i felt bad for asking questions and her not knowing the answers. I'll never go here again, nice lady tho very polite on a personal level just can't cut hair.

Best place in red deer for a cut. The staff is really nice and they know what they are doing. Got a 0 to 0.5 fade all around with the top trimmed and she did a great job will be coming back again.
