This wonderful barbershop in the heart of Montreal is a hairy scot's gift. Punctual, receptive when you arrive, ambience of good clientele, classical music playing in the background while sports play on the tele in the foreground. Started with Willie.. an Austrian from the old school.. who cut hair superbly. Mario took over when I watched his amazing hair and beard trim... he's even agile plucking hairs from my nose and between my eyebrows with this magic string thing. Arab students from McGill and Concordia are frequent customers as, Lebanese Christian though he is, he still speaks their language. We are all treated with respect and happily pay for this unique experience. Highly recommended.

I lived in Montreal for 2.5 years and this was my go to barbershop. Mario is one of the best barbers I have ever had. Not only is he skilled, but he is funny and pleasant to talk to. He makes that half hour far more enjoyable. I would go at least once a week to get my beard trimmed and the line up was always picture perfect. Based on the reviews I thought this place would be a good choice but I was completely mistaken. The barber only spent 7-8minutes cutting my hair. The back of my hair is layered and looks completely messed up. I attached a picture so you can see how bad the cut is. I am no expert but honestly anyone can tell this is a bad haircut. The barber just wanted me out as quickly as possible. He did not ask me many questions about how I wanted my cut done. He asked me the length I wanted and then started cutting. I had to really explain what I wanted done but he didn't even listen lol. I am not sure what the barbers name was but he was middle aged in his 50s. I won't be coming back.

I've been seeing the current proprietor Mario for over twenty years to get my haircuts and going to Le Cartier Barbershop on the corner of Peel and Sherbrooke streets since he started there. The atmosphere is light and enjoyable and filled with fun conversations between the barbers and clientele. Ask for a complimentary espresso while you get your cut or some whiskey around holiday time while watching some soccer on the television. Within walking distance from Peel metro, in proximity to two underground parking lots and free parking on Docteur-Penfield street on the weekend, accessibility is never an issue.

Over the years I have received expert cuts, first from Willi, the original proprietor, and a succession of barbers since. My current guy is Mario, who does an excellent job of making me look and feel younger despite the reality of the situation. Hands down, worst barbershop in Montreal. They can’t even trim a beard properly. Whatever you do, if you still choose to get your hair cut there and you’re under 60 and care what the resulting haircut looks like, steer clear of the older gentleman. Nice man, but with shaky hands, what a TERRIBLE cut, especially the beard! I don’t normally take the time for reviews but I thought a fair warning was in order here, and at 44$ the cut, for the end result, keep your money!! it’s a losing quality/price ratio ... you will assuredly be disappointed!

Paid the money for a hot shave and didn't realise until after I left that the guy had put cuts and razorburn all over my face. Went back in to complain and the guy was completely unapologetic about it. He gave me a refund of 10 dollars, meaning I still paid 15 dollars for a worse shave than I can do myself at home. Absolutely terrible experience. Seems like it depends on which of the staff members you get though. My partner had a good experience with a different barber in the same place.

This barbershop is the definition of getting what you pay for. I bounced around barbers before finding Mario at Le Cartier. He is a true expert at his craft and friendly to deal with. The same also goes for all the staff, they are always extremely courteous and polite. The coffee is also fantastic!

I've been going to Willi Troll at Le Cartier Barbershop since I was about 10 years old. If you're looking for a classic barbershop experience and a A traditional gentlemen's barber you won't find a better one anywhere. I haven't lived in Montreal for many years but I whenever I'm back I always make a point of getting a cut from Willi and Le Cartier Barbershop. The shop is conveniently located in downtown Montreal and is near Peel Metro station and McGill University. Definitely a recommended place to visit.

Barber with sleeve tattoo ‘trimmed’ my eyebrows without even asking, I already have pretty fair eyebrows as it is and so this was completely unnecessary and it frankly looks horrible. The haircut was mediocre at best.
