Don't get your haircut here. They will charge you online and then refuse to cut your hair in person unless you pay their overpriced $40 again. The owner hates McMaster students, their online store in a scam, and they will tell you to your face that they won't honour your online purchase. Scammed out of $40.

This place is minutes away from center of campus if you're a student and are looking for somewhere close that knows what they're doing. Got my hair cut there and the 2 guys were both skilled, and did not rush to get to the next customer. Yes that means you have to wait but if your going to walk around with this on your head you wouldn't want them to rush now would you. Yes, they do charge $26 for a cut and if you don't want someone at firstchoice to butcher your hair or have to deal with a slight language barrier at Vince ending with a cut you didn't want and have any genuine concern for looking sharp then $26 isn't an issue. Excellent place. Also, they only take cash.

Locally owned. Chill atmosphere. Great cut. Yes, it is a bit more expensive than the $5 cut you might be able to find someplace else but a $5 haircut looks like... a $5 cut. It's best to pay a bit more to get a MUCH better haircut. An extra few bucks for some extra self respect! Phil really listens to what you want and keeps the conversation to a comfortable level. Definitely returning.

I live most of the year in the States, so I always worry a bit when I return to Hamilton for visits that either a) the shop might be gone or b) Phil is gone or c) both the shop and Phil are gone. He remembers his customers well too, even if a whole year has gone by. This is a great place to get a haircut, have a conversation about nearly any topic and enjoy oneself. Phil is thoughtful about the cut. During a recent visit, I asked him to buzz the side using 1/4 blade, he first showed me 1/2 to make sure that he wasn't initially cutting it too short. That sort of attitude is pleasing. As for prices, they are fair. If you want something cheap then expect it to be made cheaply. This place offers a slightly above average price but the quality matches it and well worth it.

I have been going to Phil exclusively for 10 years and never have regretted a single cut! Friend day atmosphere and good conversation, he remembers every customer and it is WELL WORTH the money no question. He even hot shaves the back of your neck that will give you chills and make you feel like a king! Because of limited space and hands there can be a wait however if you plan accordingly it can be the best part of your week! 11/10 lifetime customer

I'm roughly 6 cuts into my tenure as a customer at Westdale Barber Shop and the experience has been amazing so far. The cuts are consistently perfect and Phil and Damien have taken the time to explain what works best with regards to my hair type, head shape, etc. Those are touches that you don't find elsewhere. Regarding wait times and the price point, it is what it is. If you want a cut you know you'll be happy with, wait for it and pay for it.

The Westdale Barber Shop is an integral part of the Westdale Community, originally started in the 1940's. Phil is an amazing owner and barber with decades of experience. His care for his customer and his shop really shows. I did not know what haircut I wanted to get when I walked in, he gave me suggestions and I was pleased with the choice we made. Additionally, I loved the atmosphere and small community feel, he kept me engaged with conversation throughout. I will be returning for my haircut next time.
