The bartender, the guy who answers the phone, does a great job. He invited me in with a friendly welcome by name and served me a nice coffee. The atmosphere was great and I was excited for the haircut, expecting a really premium experience, however, the barberess who cut my hair seemed to be in a bad mood. She made almost no conversation throughout the 30 minutes and every comment she made was negative in some way. I wasn't exactly sure how I wanted my hair cut and I immediately felt judged as if it was my job to style it myself. She made several comments about the strange colour of my hair (apparently there are some interesting natural highlights in the back), and accused me of cutting it myself. My rating here would be much lower if I didn't overhear the barber next to me making tailored suggestions for his client and taking the time to make interesting conversation, or if the bartending didn't greet me so warmly. If I do come back here, I surely will not be seeing the same woman who cut my hair today. The man with the beard and tattoos seems to be a great barber though.

Has a patio outside in the summer. Would definately recommend as a place to go for a cut or a shave !!

I went here because I like the concept of a barber shop with a bar. Reviews on here were good so I figured it'd be a safe choice. Kyle was my barber. I showed him front and side images of the hair style I wanted, which is a comb-back syle (Google: Toby Alderweireld). The hair cut I received was far from what I asked for. If I had asked for a Caesar I would say he did a great job. A Caesar is nowhere near what I asked for, so I paid $30 and left dissatisfied. I would go back for a beer, but not for another cut. If it weren't for the atmosphere, I probably would have rated lower than three stars.

This is absolutely one of the best spots in Hamilton. Not just for hair cutting, though the trim I received was top-notch, but for the atmosphere, the people, and the general vibe of the place. As soon as I walked in I received a warm greeting and a beer. I was included in the conversation right away and felt like I was visiting old friends. Just being inside this place makes you want to hang out there all day. I enjoyed a craft beer while I waited for my appointment then had one of the best haircuts of my life. Natasha listened to what I was going for and took her time to get it right. After my cut, I finished my beer at the bar and enjoyed a chat with the front-of-house manager, Evan. I usually find going for a hair cut to be a chore but I can't wait to get back to this place. Awesome job, guys! I'll be recommending you to all my friends with hair.

Never feel rushed for a haircut, they take their time. to cut your hair. I’ve gotten my hair cut by a few barbers here and they are all consistent. Not one haircut has been bad. I’ve always had a great haircut from the shop. Prices are a bit on the more expensive side, but you get excellent service in return! This place strives on providing an excellent customer experience! I never feel out of place coming to Hendry’s or Architect. I’ve been to some barbershops in Hamilton area where they don’t take the time to get to know their customers. This isn’t one of them! Awesome staff! Discount on great craft beers when you get a hair cut. One could even go here grab a beer and hang out with friendly owner. Sometimes one of the barbers brings in his awesome Australian Shepherd. The patio is the summer is great. I would absolutely recommend booking an appointment a day before, as they are always booked the day of. Overall, really great environment with awesome stuff and awesome beer.

James St N has undergone a real transformation and it's a great place to visit. There's lots of small, upscale businesses and restaurants. Despite the increase in traffic, parking is easily found. Architect has an eclectic decor with a comfortable feel, more like a family room than a business. They have a street-front patio for summer months. I've been several times over the last few months. Peter and Frank are always friendly and welcome me like an old friend. Paul does a fantastic job on cuts and shaves. I've recommended him to friends and family. He never disappoints. We're now in the habit of visiting after work for a trim and glass of wine or beer. Everyone loves this place! It deserves five stars...and more. Outstanding!

Architect Hair Design is my favourite barber shop in Hamilton. Not only do you get a great cut, Natasha is one of (if not the) best in town, you also can grab a cheap local beer from the bar before or after your cut! I stopped in first for the beer and a cut concept but I've been going back because of the quality cut and great atmosphere. I've also had my beard trimmed and had a great hot shave so they have everything a guy needs in a barbershop. Great people, service and atmosphere I recommend Architect Hair Design to all guys looking for a good barber shop in the Hamilton area.

This is the exact place I was looking for when I got to Hamilton 4 months ago. The bar is an added bonus cause I would love the place without the beer but it's nice to finish up with a pint for sure. I've had Monica and Kyle both cut my hair and trim my beard and both do an excellent job. I've been to both locations (i.e.Hendry's) and the experience is excellent at both. I go every 2 weeks to keep sharp and I am very particular about where I go. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great haircut/trim and a rad experience.

It has been over a month and even though my hair is getting long, it still looks great. The atmosphere of Architect Hair Design was homey and welcoming. It felt like I was going over to my friend's man cave to hang out rather than going to get my hair cut. The staff was both professional and friendly and made me feel right at home from the moment I walked through the door. Booking an appointment is simple and convenient. I simply contact them through their website and received an email back almost immediately. very unlike any other hair dresser or barber I've ever been to. Last but not least is their beer. I never thought I would have a beer while getting my hair cut. In fact, I've never thought to have a beer while getting my hair cut. I did so for the first time and it made for a great experience. Overall I highly recommend Architect Hair Design. I will be coming back here regularly.

I love coming to Architect HD! I just recently changed over to this shop from a previous barber of over 2 years and it's the best decision I've made. The shop is probably one of the coolest barber shops I have ever been to. I love the fact that you can have a craft beer that won't break the bank and get a stellar cut as well. There's also a ton of men's grooming products to choose from, makes it really easy to pick stuff up when you're in the shop. I have been getting barbered by Kevin since I started coming to Architect, he takes his time and pays very close attention to detail. I would recommend him to anybody! If you're looking for a new barber or just a place to hang out and have a quick drink and chat, this is the place to be!

My first time here and I am impressed. Yuri was most welcoming and accomodating at reception. Mike, my barber, was very considerate of my style choices and we became much like a team. The result is excellent and I look forward to returning again! The work space is not clinical but rather more like a man's salon with bar and lounge and patio. The experience has been more like an event than a chore!

Had my cut done today by Mike, he was excellent. Very meticulous with my fade. Asked him to go a bit shorter than normal, because you can’t get a cut as often these days. He did a great job. The chair beside me was the other barber, Jackie, and she’s done my cuts before. She’s a dynamite barber as well. Architect is doing good things during tough times. And the waiting room serves beers.

This place came highly recommended. Cool atmosphere and the bartender with the beard was awesome - super friendly and chatty! However, I asked for a fade cut and beard trim/shape up, cut was mediocre, beard trim was buzzed all one length, except for the spots that were missed under my chin and right jawline - those hairs were left double the length (my original length going in). Could have done a better job myself, hands down. Barber was Kevin. Heard such great things but unfortunately won't be going back.

I've been trying various salons in the hamilton and Burlington area for years with no success. I've gotten many Karen style haircuts or complete write offs. My husband had been getting his hair cut with Mike at architect hair design for about a year. His cuts always look so fresh! He suggested seeing if they had anyone who was comfortable doing female hair. Kevin was highly recommended and I cannot express how happy I am with the cut! Bonus is that there is a bar on site so you can have a drink while you wait ????

I've been here a number of times and i have to say i'll never go anywhere else. Pete the owner is extremely welcoming and an all around great guy. It's definitely one of the coolest places to just chill and enjoy one of their huge selection of craft beers while you wait for a trim. I personally started going here for the amazing deal of a beard trim and beer for 10$. How cool is that? I've only ever had Natasha trim my beard but i always leave happy. Support local businesses and give this place a shot! They definitely deserve it!
