Love it here. The cuts are fresh, tailored to the styles and descriptions of everyone who comes in. I've had cuts by both dudes now and I've been extremely happy with the detail and flow post-hair cut-- always the true test of a good cut. Each barber is unique, personable, and confident with their abilities and who they are-- just what a barbershop should strive for. And it's ridiculously affordable. So much so that a 20-25% tip seems more than reasonable. It's a totally unpretentious place, and I really like that it's also supportive and proud of Halifax's art scene, history, and general vibe (just my opinion here, but I think barber shops should strive to reflect and support their communities-- these guys do that: putting up local artists' work, displaying local antiques, handmade furniture, etc.-- it reflects the eclectic, blue collar, but very cool nature of Halifax). Small rant: Haligonians, frankly, are too nice with their reviews. Going by the interwebz and the reviews all of the "trendy" barber shops in Halifax, you'd think that Halifax is some Mecca for haircuts. In reality, I've only come across one very good barber shop: Scallywags.

My son and I were in yesterday and both had our hair buzzed. My little guy has hair that grows in a thousand directions so at first it was a mess, Louis took the time to make sure we were happy with the cut before we left. He basically cut his hair 3 times!

Dave provides an excellent haircut and is a personable and professional barber. I've always been a bit wary when it comes to changing barbers, but from my first visit in 2018 I knew this place was a good fit. Also love the retro appeal of the barbershop itself. The classic seats are ???? Will keep coming back for my (admittedly simple) hair cutting needs for the foreseeable future.

First time here tonight and it was an awesome experience! Had my hair cut and beard trimmed by one of the owners (Brad) and was extremely impressed with the outcome! Very relaxed atmosphere as well as extreme precision/care taken with respect to the hair cut/beard trim. Will never go anywhere else but here from now on. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Nice place and nice guys. But my man did not listen to what I wanted in my cut. I said nothing off the top, except the bangs, well he cut the entire top. My side fade had a distinct line, not a fade at all. I think too much chat and not paying attention could be the reason. Wont return to this place.

Updated review / rating - I didnt get the haircut I wanted, and posted a review, the guys at the shop were super nice and offered to either fix it for free or refund me, I didnt want to take the refund and didnt feel like going back for another cut, I tried to tell them it was okay but they insisted I take the refund. Crazy nice people, they really went above and beyond what any other barber shop would do. Obviously these guys are good at what they do, the reviews speak for themselves, sadly their style wasn't for me but thats okay, its clearly working for a lot of people, I'm quite fussy with my hair so I'm definitely a outlier.

Can't say enough good things about Scallywags! The entire staff are super professional and all are super nice and easy to talk to. You never have worry about leaving having a bad hair cut because they're all highly skilled and go above and beyond to give you a top quality haircut. Booking online is super convenient and easy and their rates are super reasonable! They also have a great location and you never have to worry about driving around looking for parking. Brad and Dylan are also both very professional as well and I love going here. They all have so much attention to detail it's unreal. It's such a laid back time and no stress environment. Also good coffee and music to boot. I will come here from now on. I'm actually going in about an hour!

try to book an appointment ahead of time online as they tend to be pretty busy. but beyond that it is a very nice place with some very nice employees. the prices are ab9ut standard. 20 dollars plus tax for a hair cut they also offer to shave your neck and such. they have other things too like 12 dollars for.a buzz cut or a full on shave and hair cut or just the shave.
