And sorry I did not state that in store cuz I did not want to make it too embarrassing, but I become more abd more angery as I look at mirror at home. If youvare an Asian, dont go to her, cuz she really has no even a tiny bit idea that Western people and Eastern people has different approach to hairstyle. I showed photo, she had a quick glimpse, and said yes she nailed it, but at the end, it was actually a disaster, as she added her own understanding without telling me. Then whats the point for me showing you the photo, I want you to copy! Really sad, almost made me unwilling to have a meeting with my family.

Very nice barbershop. Decor and ambiance are top notch. Professional and very approachable staff. The online reservation tool is very good and even allows you to select your barber. The prices were good for a downtown barbershop of that calibre (i.e. not the cheapest around Halifax, but also not the most expensive), definitively worth the price. Would highly recommend.

True story - one day I saw a guy who looked like me on the street but with nicer hair. I stopped him and asked "where did you get your hair cut?" He said "Courtney at Sailor Bups, you should go see her". I said " why not". And he was right - good haircuts, good price. And a reservation system which is sometimes rare for Barber shops.

However I can't figure out a difference between Sailor Bup's $35 haircut experience and another barber nearby giving me the same satisfaction for just $25.

Asked for a low skin fade, got a high fade instead. The barber was nice and professional but should have paid more attention when I was showing him the pictures. They got a sign in the shop that says not to post negative reviews instead tell the barbers right away so they could fix it. How can you fix something when your barber already took the fade way up when you specifically asked not to (Low skin fade). How would you fix the length of the hair when you told your barber just to slightly trim on the top and you get your hair length cut in half instead? Anyways, Wasn't the worst fade either. Giving out 3 stars and definitely not returning back.

They're awesome for coaching you on how to manage your hair if you ask. I do miss the walk-in location on Gottingen but making appointments about 4-5 days in advance is never an issue. The fact that they're on time for the appointment I make is already great, but when they add everything else they have to offer, it really does drive home the strength of the business. I've gone to a couple of the newer barbers who are good, but you need to book well in advance to get the more senior/experienced barbers. Not bad, just a comment.

This place is fantastic. Naomi took me in right on time and was extremely easy to have a conversation with. She cut my hair exactly the way I had envisioned it prior to going inside. The place was clean and very barbershopy(yes, it isn't a real word). With Covid restrictions in place (like everywhere else) you are required to wait outside of the shop as there is no waiting room, might be an issue if it is raining and you don't have an umbrella.

I have been a regular since they opened on Argyle. Mark has a great crew. Booking online is easy. I just need a buzzcut but they do a great job on it. At 9 ish bucks it is a reasonable price for the area. If you book a service definitely be on time. I have never had to wait. There is some parking on Brunswick but I walk here so I don't have any suggestions on a good place to stash the wheels. There is usually complimentary coffee available (self serve). It's a friendly local space. Various hair and shaving products are available.

Show a reference picture for a medium long haircut, and was assured it’d work. Cut was 1/2 the asked length. They offered to fix it and made it even shorter. End product does still not look good. Will be growing hair for another 6 months to fix it. Professional and did not charge for the cut. Signs ask not to leave negative reviews but take it up with the barbers. Will not be getting my hair cut here again.

I've been going here for 3 years now and it's the first place I've stuck with. The staff are all very skilled and super friendly. You need to book in advance (like a few days to a week for some barbers) and if they cancel your cut you're at the whim of their availability, you might have to wait another week.

Atmosphere holds a lot of sway for me in a barbershop. The brick and bright interior is really satisfying, and hopefully is enjoyed as much by the excellent and professional staff. I've settled into a favourite (as one does for haircuts) but had good experiences with other barbers there too. Pricing is damn reasonable for a simple haircut.

I went to the original location based on reviews and thought I would try this new spot. It looked great and had an interesting vibe of old school barbershops but that's where the illusion came to an end. My stylist looked annoyed I was there and didn't speak during the entire cut. She never asked a question after I sat down the most connected thing to me she did was grab and twist my head. The concept of not facing the mirror but the shop only works if people are engaged in their clients. The two other employees were dressed like Mad Men but sat on their cell phones and sending each other links. Tp top it off when the cut was complete I was rushed from my chair with no offer of product. I went to the washroom at a local coffeeshop, styled myself and made an appointment with my regular stylist to fix the unfinished cut. I hope that over time they have improved the quality of service and cuts because all the vibe and nostalgia doesn't make up for poor device and quality.

I love going to Sailor Bup's - there's a great vibe and now I know a couple of the barbers, I can go in and they know how I like my hair. I've been growing my hair since pretty much I was born, so I do consider myself a bit of an expert when it comes to how I like it. They get it right every time! Good times, good conversation, just some fine relaxation with some well skilled folks. Do yourself a favour, book your time in advance and then you know you'll be completely taken care of. Can't rate them highly enough.

Had TERRIBLE customer service from a blonde haired 'barbette' from @ Sailor Bups today. I booked an appointment 6 days in advanced. All week I was looking forward to getting my hair trimmed up for an important meeting. The night came and traffic made me 7 minutes late. Upon entering the little cramped shop I immediately apologized and took my jacket off in anticipation for my hair cut. But then, the unexpected happened; the barbette said they had a 5 minute late policy and since I was 7 minutes late she refused to cut my hair. "2 minutes?" I said, "yup" she remarked. "You're joking right?" "Nope" She said. "That's pretty strict I said" "It's policy she said" "Are you sure your clock might not be a little fast?" I replied. "Yes I'm sure. There's a walk in shop on the other side of town that opens at 10am tomorrow" she uttered. "Um, okay, thanks". There was only one other person getting their hair cut and she wasn't doing anything. Then I realized I was the last booking of the day and she'd be getting off early by not cutting my hair. I wouldn't advise booking a haircut here if you need your hair cut for something important, incase you're 5 minutes and 1 millisecond late. I tip my haircutters well and I spent $50 at this place on hair products last month, but I won't be going back now.

I had an incredibly good experience my first time at Sailor Bup's. The friendliness of the staff, the welcoming atmosphere and decor of the shop is awesome. Moving forward, I had been busy but returned four months later for another cut with Amber, and received the same awesome service as before. Not only that, but she remembered who I was and even what was talked about on my last visit....again, that was four months ago! That's incredible and makes it feel like a very personal experience. You're not just another customer at this shop folks. You're treated like a friend. Kudos! See you guys in a few weeks.
