"The Valk" -- Burt gave me this cut and I hear it's all the rage! I like to see a guy going it alone in traditional style with class and skill. You can pay $12 for Mega-Barber and it's a Crap Shoot as to whether or not you will come out with a decent haircut. Burt charges $19 and it's worth every (digital) penny. I always tip him $1 for the great Bullshitting Sessions at his shop (just like a Man's barber should be!) for an even $20. He's got another baby on the way -- so he needs more traffic through his shop, guys! (Apparently he's looking ahead to increased victims...oops, I meant Customers...by hiring a second barber coming up soon...). But all kidding aside -- Burt is a great Barber, and you'll not only leave his shop with a great haircut -- but also the piece of mind that you're helping a young family as opposed to some scum-dog filthy-rich Capitalist Pig when you pay the extra $7 to have your haircut at Burt's Barbershop. Man Up Guys!

Made an appointment, and he was perfectly ready right on time. The cut was clean and well done. He made sure to check in with me a couple times on how the length and style looked. The shop was clean, he wore a mask and kept to one client in at a time to minimize social interaction during covid-19. I will definitely be going back here. Every time I go here, they're closed for lunch or going for lunch, closed, or full. So like nine out of ten times I pop in for a quick haircut, I can't get it. Walk-ins only too so tough luck, pally. If you're fortunate enough to be able to get a haircut (presumably because you could wait for an hour over their lunch) you'll no doubt appreciate the saltiness of the atmosphere unless you're a sourpuss yourself. Be advised though that this probably isn't going to yield in the perfect haircut BUT the price is right, the job is satisfactory, and the people cutting your hair don't come from the stilted-school-of-conversation that you might get at a Magicuts. So it gets a star deducted because of the couple times I had to fix some stray missed hairs after, and also because it's really tough (for me at least) to be able to actually get my hair cut there because of it being closed or busy.

Burt is a stand up business owner and human being. He took the better part of an hour to explain how to fix an at-home men's haircut gone wrong during the COVID-19 shutdown, free of charge. Not only is he super knowledgeable at his trade, but he is such a kind and genuine person.

Burt is skilled at his craft. I've seen him do a complex two layered style for a 20 something followed by an elder with fluffy hair on the side and none on top. Mine is curly and pretty easy to do but it always comes out looking just right. He's full of stories and will even provide relationship counseling if you ask the right questions. I'd give him as many stars as are allowed.

First of all, 30 bucks is allot to pay for a haircut. Secondly, the haircut was not good. There was no style at all. Tertiery Bert insisted on talking the entire time contrary to the signage on his storefront that conversation be kept to a minimum. He scoffed at it. Forth, the language that he used was course and unprofessional. I will never go back.

I liked this barbershop. I went there for the first time and the barber took a lot of time focusing on cutting my hair. We had fun chit-chat and I was happy with the end result. I would go there again. Very affordable than compare to the 35-40$ salons around.

Burt has been cutting my hair now consistently for nearly 5 years and I have been a loyal customer. When he isn't there, or is unavailable, I have always had a great cut from Sean as well. Not only will they give you a great cut, their prices are always reasonable and worthy of a tip for their great banter. You aren't just a customer, but made to feel important which is something that is sorely lacking in this industry. From skin fades to crew cuts and some scissor/clipper work, you can bank on a great experience. While COVID has killed the walk-in environment, Burt and the team have done a GREAT job of keeping everyone clean and safe while moving to a primarily-reservation model.

I’ve been trying to get in to see Burt for a while now and it hasn’t worked out because, candidly, I can’t be bothered waiting and his shop is always busy. In the interim I’ve tried a couple of the other, higher profile, places in town and have been disappointed by both the level of customer service and the mindset of the staff (I won’t comment on quality because I ain’t a barber). I finally got in to see Burt today and was impressed. He did a great job. I’m very happy with the result he produced and will be going back. Customer service and mindset was fantastic. In terms of the overall experience, I felt like I was going to an old school barber shop where a bunch of old dudes sat around and talked about life. It was pretty cool. The conversation seemed quite organic and comfortable. If you’re looking for a great cut at a fair price and are comfortable participating in a free flowing conversation then Burt’s is the place for you.

Burt has cut my hair several times, and every time I've been thrilled with my haircut. He's fast, friendly the price is affordable, and the service is great. If you're ever in James Bay on a weekday and need a haircut, Burt is your guy. Unfortunately due to a change in work schedule, I can't come in during the week anymore. My experiences (or lack thereof) with the girl that works weekends have been awful. I've gone over to the shop on two different occasions, only to be told (in a very unapologetic manner, bordering on rude) that she doesn't feel up to fitting me in, and I'll need to come back another time. If taking appointments isn't your thing, that's certainly up to you, but I really can't turn getting a 15 minute haircut into an all-day affair just to wait around hoping for someone to feel up to cutting my hair. Based on what I've seen and heard, I'm not the only one that's had this experience. It's a real shame, given how great Burt is, but unless I can find a way to come in during the week, I won't be back.

I always went to First choice type places due to convenience and price. Always simple, never over the top. I hate being fussed over and so avoided anything that seemed to "try too hard." After about 5 less than par cuts and a dozen or so "suggestions" from my girlfriend, I looked elsewhere and found Burt's. I've been there half a dozen times or so and not once was my girlfriend or I let down. High quality cuts, great friendly service, amazing price. He has another barber on board, Keith, does just as great a job as Burt himself. Two thumbs up, five stars and cheers!
