First time visiting this place. Apparently the ownership changed hands about a month ago. Hours are 9-5, Monday-Saturday, closed Sundays (those could change, don't quote me). Went on a Saturday, no wait, the owner was very nice, haircut took maybe 15 minutes.

Everyone at Cook Street Barbers is awesome. I've been to many other barbers and stylists in town and Cook Street Barbers is the most reliable, cost effective, and friendly bunch. Sometimes you may have to wait for 15-20 min during busy periods, but I find going around 3-4pm you rarely have to wait. Ask for Rolf. (Also heads up, they're on View Street now, not Cook Street)

I'm so happy to have tried this barbershop. As the name says it used to be located on Cook street and now the owner has opened a new location on View street on the ground floor of the Jukebox building. My first visit I met Martin who did a great job. When you look at yourself after a haircut and you say I love it you know it was done professionally and you know you should go back. Well on my second visit I met Danielle and she too was friendly and made me feel relaxed. Plus she's cute. Well after she cut my hair I looked up and said I love it. But what really told me that I would be back is the fact that during the following week I had no less than 3 people say... Hey I like your haircut. Cook street barbershop on View street is now my go to barbershop. And Danielle is now my favourite stylist. Highly recommended.

Michael was very cordial, and the shop itself is beautifully retro, a well preserved piece of Victoria history. It's also right next to Cook Street's fantastic Wellburn's Market! I had the oddest experience at this, my local barbershop. After a remarkable 5-star, pleasant experience with a British ex-pat barber, I wanted a repeat visit. I walk in and grab a chair in front of a barber with fiery red hair and a beard. OK haircut. Poor customer experience. “What would you like?” he says. “A foot rub and calf massage,” I reply with a laugh, joking at his vague question. “That’ll cost too much” he says curtly. “Ok,” I laugh. “I haven't cut my hair in about a month. Short on the side and a bit longer on the top.” He starts grilling me. “Do you want a #1 or a #2 clipper? How short on the top? Two inches? One inch? Finger length?” This barber believed that his customers should know more than they often do. I had no idea. “Use your expertise,” I say with a laugh. He grills me to pick an option. “Ok... Uh... #1 on the side and finger length on top.” The fiery barber cuts my hair. It's OK. Afterwards he holds up the mirror and asks, “How’s that?” “Good,” I say. “Could you make the fade a little bit higher? I’d like it shorter here.” I point to the forehead real estate that I have been nurturing and growing over the last decade. “Do you even know what a fade is?” he scolds. “Maybe not...” I was taken aback and confused. “Please. Just a bit shorter here.” “I assure you!” he says, “I cut your hair properly! Haircuts should make a square frame. I’m the barber!!” We argue about barber terminology for a bit. “Ok,” I say. “I’m sorry. don’t know the right words to use. Could you please just cut my hair a bit shorter here?” “What do you do?” he asks. “I’m a management consultant and trainer who teaches effective business practices.” “I don’t tell you how to do your job! You don’t tell me how to do mine!!” When it came time to pay with my credit card, he only accepted cash. He had not taken the effort to acquire a simple app for his phone to accept payment from credit cards, like many other barbers have. Ironically, when I gave him his $20 cash, his eyes lit up. He loved getting paid. I wonder when he’ll realize that grateful service creates loyal customers that are far more lucrative than one-off customers... Now contrast this with, perhaps the best ever barber experience that I have ever had. I was in Florence Italy for a consulting gig. I had three hours to fill before my presentation and wandered into a “Barbiere” “Ciao!” I say. “Uno hair-cutto per favore!” The barber started speaking fluent Italian. I had no idea what he was saying. I pull out my phone and open the google translate app. “I’d like it short on the side and longer on the top. I haven’t cut my hair in about a month.” Google translate spits out a robotic tone: “Mi piacerebbe essere breve sul lato e più in alto. Non ho tagliato i capelli in circa un mese." The barber smiles and laughs. He speaks into the phone. “I am an artist. I will cut your hair like the pyramids. Slowly. I will take my time and do it one step at a time.” He cuts my hair. “How's this?” “A bit shorter here and here,” I say. He cuts a bit more. “How's this?” “A bit shorter here and here,” I say. He cuts a bit more. “How's this?” You get the point. He cut my hair perfectly. I left him a 20 Euro tip. We both enjoyed our time together. This man knew to his core that grateful service creates loyal customers that are far more lucrative than one-off customers. Raving fans. And, I can assure you that both he and I had happier, more pleasant days after I left his Barbiere.

You'll get a haircut to match a $20 price tag, and you'll often have to wait upwards of an hour for it, because they do walk in only, and they won't let you hold a seat for a specific time even if it's just to drive over. Often I'll call to ask how busy it is, they'll say it's empty and I can get done right away, and by the time I'm there, there's already like 3 or 4 people waiting. Don't bother unless you want to wait all day for an average-at-best haircut.

Went to another shop nearby and "Everyone went home already" so I wasn't able to get in for a cut, when they were still open for another hour. When I arrived at Cook Street there was 3 people in line in front of me and they were more than happy to cut my hair 30 minutes before they closed. The cut was good, they followed all safety procedures for the pandemic and it was priced fairly. It was easy, convenient, and the staff are friendly and professional, I will be coming back every time I need a cut.

I can say with full confidence that this the best barber I have been to. Ashe was extremely friendly and detail oriented. I moved out of that neighbourhood, but kept going there despite the distance because because he does such a good job. Was very pleased to find out that he'd moved to Cook St, right by my new place! I've since had cuts by all three guys at the new shop, and I have never been disappointed. I can't understand why people go to some of the more expensive "barber shops" downtown when you can get a great cut with good atmosphere here!

Amazing barbershop. Went in today to get 11" of hair chopped off the top of my head. He did a spectacular job, his name was either David or Daniel(I'm bad with names). Quick, clean, very friendly and the prices are second to none. I'm definitely going to be a repeat customer for them, and would recommend these guys to anyone in the area. The do phenomenal work for the short time you are in the chair!

WORST HAIRCUT OF MY LIFE! Don't get the blonde woman to cut your hair! Been there a few times, and the men know what they're doing. I let the woman know very specifically what I wanted. Sides and back tapered with a number 3; my widows peak trimmed; leave the sides of the bangs, seeing i like the length. She does the complete opposite! Cuts the side bangs and leaves the widows peak long. When I saw it, I told her I asked for the widows peak cut, so she cuts the sides of the bangs again! I said thats enough! She asked if I wanted the hair on the back of my neck shaved, but I just said no. She had done enough damage. now I'm walking around with Frankenstein's haircut. Thanks! Wish I could add a picture.

By far best barbers in Victoria. Coming from Ireland found it difficult to find a quality barber and Ashe is even better than my barber back home! New shop easy to cycle/walk or park on side streets is clean and a pleasure to be in and very welcoming. If you took appointments, even if I had to wait until the person in the chair to finish up I'd be happy. BOOO... and shame on you Cook Street Barber for not telling me where Ashe is working. I went in for my usual skin fade on a Sunday two weeks ago and ask where Ashe is. The dude said he doesn't know, then laughed. I then found out he is right next door at Sparrow hair salon on Sundays where he does appointment only due to COVID safety. Ashe told me Rolf and the staff at cook street barber staff would be telling his clients where he is working. Ashe has been providing the BEST fade I've received at your shop. Victoria is too small for such unprofessional behaviour and I will not be back to Cook Street Barber. Please be true to your word in the future!

Got a haircut from the owner Rolf. He gave me exactly what I wanted for a very good price of $18. I have been to some pretty well known barbershops and have been charged up to $60 for the same haircut that Rolf gave. I have been told I have difficult hair to cut, but that was no problem for Rolf, who has 20 years of experience. I would highly recommend Cook Street Barbershop.
