This shop opened around four months ago and it is just one of the many reasons GR is becoming so awesome. This is a true barber shop for those who want to look like they are from the 1890s like myself or a clean buttered up line for the younger folk. They offer traditional hot towel shaves, professional fades, and elegant haircuts. This is all topped off by great conversation. Tommy the owner is a very knowledgeable along with the rest of his barber crew. The short lived age of the mini-mall cuts is over. Time to be a man again and visit Henchman House.

I moved to Grand Rapids in January 2020 desperately looking for a good, quality place to get a haircut. Then COVID hit. Not only was I impressed by the way HHB responded to it's customer and keeping everyone up to date on what was happening, but they also develop a good, safe, clean, and easy to follow plan for how to get service once things opened up. Dom was very professional and friendly and did an amazing job with cutting my hair. Will not only be going back but plan on buying their membership plan.

It is not easy to find a shop that you like, that always delivers and has a great atmosphere. I have been bouncing around for years trying to find the right place that fit. I have found that place at Henchmen House. I happened upon them by chance about a month after their opening after once again looking like a toddler with some construction paper scissors finished me off with a weed whacker. Right from my first visit, I could tell this shop was different. The guys have always provided a great atmosphere, professional service, tons of laughs and above all, a great cut. I tip my hat, not that I have to wear one anymore, to the guys at the Henchmen house and wish them continued success while maintaining the humble great times at every visit.

I had my first experience at Hechmen House on Saturday and to say I was impressed is an understatement. Firstly, the online booking process was incredibly simple. While there are several amazing barbers in the city, it's hard to find one that takes appointments. Like most people, my schedule can get a bit overwhelming and I just don't have the time to wait for 1.5 to 2 hours for a haircut. So the fact that they had an appointment system in place was already a plus. When I arrived on Saturday, the entire staff greeted me warmly, asked me if I needed a beverage, and told me that they would be with me soon. I've never been offered a beverage at any other shop in the city let alone greeted by more than a, "Hey man!" on my first visit. I'm a self-proclaimed "diva" (divo?) when it comes to getting my haircut because I am annoyingly detail oriented AND have a past background in cosmetology. Ryan's attention to detail was next level, giving me exactly what I wanted. Additionally he was efficient, friendly, and very easy to talk to. And last but not least, they were playing Faith Evans' "Love Like This" when I walked in! C'mon that song is a BANGER! I will DEFINITELY be coming back again and again.

Review #2 UPDATE: Every visit I've had my hair cut by Tommy, unfortunately Tommy was booked until pigs started flying so I was lucky enough to get in with Adam! I came in with the sloppiest work from home hairdo and disgusting beard. Adam really turned things around for me, and gave me a great bald fade and beard trim! Thank you Adam! You da man! Still 10/10 Genuine and very pleasant. I was welcomed with a warm greeting, the smell and atmosphere made it seem like I was in the Goodfellas. Tommy had an outstanding personality, and took his time. Two henchmen looking men walked in with suits on and briefcases demanding signatures. . Not sure if that was part of the hair package, but it completed the experience. 10/10

Since moving to Grand Rapids a couple years ago I've visited a few barber shops. One was awful. Another was okay. Another was pretty good. Now, in Henchman House I've found the barbershop I've been looking for. While they are certainly not the least expensive, they consistently give a great haircut and beard trim, every time. The service is always fantastic. I love that I can pay with my credit card and make an appointment too. Henchman House Barbershop gets my highest recommendation.

These guys have the best customer service of any barber shop in Grand Rapids (and I've been to quite a few over the years). Dom gave me the best, most skilled haircut I've had in years. I was a walk in, but Dom and Tommy made me feel like I was already a regular as soon as I came through the door. The shop has a classic barbershop feel, but with a very modern take -- and a very postive energy. The guys really take pride in their work. I've been to a few shops in town where I felt like the barbers seemed to think they were doing me a favor by cutting my hair, but that's definitely not the case here. Dom immediately made me feel like a valued guest. I've already referred my friends. Five stars, hands down.

These guys rock, man. A very chill, easy-going spot that I love going to. The vibe in the shop is always on point, whether it's the music they're playing or the camaraderie between the barbers and the patrons. If you make the visit, you will feel at home. Today I brought my five year-old with me for the first time. He was taking it easy, on my phone watching his nursery rhymes and walking around examining the shop while I was getting my haircut. The guys were patient with him and redirecting him back within our view when he was venturing off too far. At some point, he must have thought the music was a bit loud because he plugged his ears. Tommy immediately noticed, turned the music down and was more considerate than he needed to be and that made a great visit even better. He got me in and out quick, not that I was rushing, but (again ????) he noticed the lad was starting to 'check out', getting antsy and ready to leave. Great experience on so many levels. Check 'em out and I'm sure you won't regret it. PS- It was a great haircut too, per the usual (since this is a barbershop review and not a review for a daycare ????).

I've always found barbershops to be a little intimidating. I've never been quite sure what to ask for. I would get nervous about being overly specific, or spend too much time Youtubing lingo just to walk in and say "a little off the top and clean up the sides". Generally, I'd walk away dissatisfied and hop to another shop for the next cut in hopes that my next barber would intrinsically know what I wanted. I was being ignorant, and Henchmen House helped me see that in the least judgmental and most relaxed way possible. I have been going to Dom for cuts since August. He created a comfortable environment, sought clarification regarding my preferences, and helped me dial in what I wanted in a cut and beard shaping. I won't be looking for another barber anytime soon. Tonight, after my last cut, total strangers had an odd curiosity about my grooming habits. Selfishly, I wanted to hold out, and just tell them I do my own styling, but I caved and sent them on to Henchmen House.

Can't say enough about Henchmen House! My husband is a member and has never been happier with his cut. It goes beyond just stopping in to get a haircut...from the facial massage to the atmosphere, he has commented that it feels more like an experience. He loves that he's able to walk-in to the barbershop if he has some time in his day, or schedule an appointment online. He typically goes to Tommy but has gotten cuts from the other barbers and was very happy with them. This is the best barbershop in Grand Rapids. I recently moved from Pittsburgh and was trying to find a good shop and landed here. It is by far the best shop I have been to in the area. Do not be skeptical of all the 5 star reviews, they are legit. Tom, Dom, and Ryan have cut my hair. Each has done a great job. The price is good too! You will feel great giving them a tip. The vibe is great to. You will feel comfortable here as well. The place is very clean. Booking online is the easiest way to get your service. They accept credit card, which is convenient. Did I mention that the won Best of the West for barbershop from Revue Magazine. Just go here, it is the right place. Lastly, this is an actual barbershop, not a salon.
