The guys at Fogtown, lead by Chris Evans, have definitely found a niche when it comes to barbering in St. John's. Since 2011 they've been offering short & sharp haircuts and high-quality grooming products to guys from the heart of downtown St John's. Originally a one-chair shop, the demand for service was so high they had to expand to a two-chair shop earlier than expected.
Initially, only same-day appointments were available, which could be frustrating at times when the appointments were quickly booked up by the loyal clientele. However, you quickly realize it's worth having to call a few times in the morning in order to get your spot. However, they've recently started offering advanced bookings, which is a great convenience as I work out of town and was able to book my next appointment when I visited earlier this week. I expected hundreds of others will certainly do the same.
After my first visit, I was hooked - It was like no other barbershop I've ever visited. When you walk in the door, you're as likely to hear local AM talk-radio as you are to hear the latest release from an underground hardcore punk band or Elvis Presley ca. 1955, and conversation can range from municipal politics to what's the best Chinese restaurant to go for lunch, and everything in between.
Fogtown has been my go-to barbershop for a few years, and the service and atmosphere make it a great place to go for a haircut, or just to hang out and talk to people as they go about their day. They offer a range of high-quality grooming products including pomades, double edge safety razors, shave cream and beard oil from top brands like Baxter of California, Iron Society, and Layrite. It really is a one-stop shop for guys.
Fogtown is a great place for guys to get a crisp hair cut, and their customer base has rewarded them with the distinction of "best place to get a men's haircut" in the St John's area in Overcast magazine.
Whether you're a local resident or a visitor, I highly recommend a trip to Fogtown Barber & Shop for a sharp cut, cool and friendly atmosphere, and of course a complimentary beer.
It's an old-school barbershop with a modern touch. Inspired by the original downtown barbershop - The Family Barber - Chris, Colin, Robbie, Dan, Chris, and Heff bring classic barbering to modern-day St John's like nobody else in town.
