I have an excellent experience here, lovely little barber shop at the inside entrance to Henry Singer, and Tracy did a phenomenal job of giving me a haircut I couldn't properly articulate that I wanted. Truly wonderful. Also to Stephen, totally off topic but he'll know what this is about: "The population of the City of Calgary according to its 2019 municipal census is 1,285,711, a change of 1.4% from its 2018 municipal census population of 1,267,344." The city IS getting more populated!

I can't say enough good things about the Jay and Stephen duo! They're always exceptionally customer-focused, attentive to what you're looking for and just an absolute blast to be around. Jay cuts my hair and I trust him with every strand, every time, to make the right call and meld his expertise with my choices. I got really lucky and found Jay as my first barber when I moved to Calgary from Ontario last summer. I won't be switching to a new shop as long as we both share an area code. I suggest that you also spare yourself the search for a new barber and just come here first, you won't go wrong!

For the better part of my teenage/adult life, I regularly received compliments on my hair (not to sound vain/arrogant – I recognize the compliments could of course have been sarcastic…). In any event, moved to Calgary and struggled to find a place downtown (near work) to get my hair cut but settled on a (now growing) “barber” chain because it was cheap and easy. The compliments stopped coming in and I simply attributed that to Calgarians not being as friendly… started seeing Jay at Johnny’s and - lo and behold - the compliments started coming back in. To summarize: 1. Jay is an awesome guy, has great insight, and actually listens to what you want. 2. The free 2-week clean up is a game changer. 3. The banter between him and Stephen is always amusing. 4. Go to Johnny's and see Jay. You will not regret it.

I initially found Stephen on Instagram, @stephenj.barber, and loved the diversity of styles on his page. It's been about two years now that I have been going to him. His process is both meticulous and thoughtful. Any style that you bring to him he understands how to adapt it to you and makes sure that the end result, not only looks good the day of the appointment but that it continues looking good as it grows out. Stephen is a great guy that really knows what he's doing. Not to mention, while you're getting a fantastic cut, he can have an engaging conversation about literally anything. We've talked about everything from trading algorithms to having some passionate exchanges about the current state of the NBA. Now Johnny's as a whole is a fantastic shop, the products they use are top-notch, and the atmosphere they have created is unmatched by anything that I've come across in Calgary. If you need a cut or a whole new spot, Johnny's is definitely it.

I enjoyed the tunes from their speaker box - not typical coffeehouse type music. This was more of an experience than a haircut. Usually my haircuts are impersonal and straight business. Tracy took the time to listen to what I was trying to achieve and helped bring my vision to life. True skill and professionalism. His counterpart on the other side of the sink was comical and helped make the environment relaxed and welcoming. Good time. Good cut. Looking forward to my next visit.

I’ve been going to Johnny’s for a couple of years now, and followed Stephen to the new location when it opened a year ago. My experiences - let alone my haircuts - at Johnny’s have been nothing but stellar since the beginning. The atmosphere is everything you’d hope for in a barber shop, and the barbers are all unbelievable. Johnny’s has truly found the best that Calgary, even Alberta, and probably even Canada has to offer. I finally had my first straight razor shave, and I honestly don’t think I’ll be able to go for one anywhere else because the bar has been set so high. Despite them obviously being extremely busy, scheduling an appointment doesn’t feel like a chore and is super smooth. Haircuts never take longer than they should, but you never feel rushed and lose out on good conversation. I appreciate that Stephen is so excited and passionate about his art that he makes me look forward to my haircut for days. Following his instagram is nothing short of inspiring! Once you go here, you’ll never be able to go anywhere else.

I got cleaned up at here before going on vacation. I got a buzz cut and beard trim, Matt was my barber, and he knocked it out of the park! He ran through a couple ideas for my beard and went to work on it. Matt took the time to sculpt and make sure the symmetry was correct. What I've tried to achieve in years, he was able to do in about 30 minutes or so. Excellent experience and price was pretty decent too.
